Hannah and Matthew’s story began nine years ago on a hammock under the stars in the Bahamas. What started as a chance meeting during a family vacation slowly grew into long-distance weekends, late-night drives, and a love strengthened by showing up for one another—again and again. So when it came time to choose a wedding location, they looked back at the dream list they’d been building for years and decided to take a leap: a Scottish adventure that turned their bucket-list destination into their very own Isle of Skye castle wedding.
They planned the entire celebration together, blending their love for nature and history into a day that felt calm, meaningful, and completely theirs.
What We Love About This Isle of Skye Castle Wedding
- A private Isle of Skye castle surrounded by sweeping cliffs and misty landscapes
- A handfasting ritual with cords that tied serendipitously into a perfectly centered knot
- A meaningful tribute to the groom’s mother during their first look
- A six-course farm-to-table dinner that guests still rave about

Classic Wedding Fashion for a Historic Setting
Hannah had always pictured lace and off-the-shoulder sleeves. She found her dream dress after visiting just two boutiques. Matthew, keeping with the historical setting, chose a classic suit from Brooks Brothers that gave a subtle nod to Scottish charm.

Originally, Hannah planned to do her own hair and makeup. But at the last minute, she booked a professional and gave full creative freedom. “I told her to do whatever would hold up best, rain or shine,” she said. Makeup artist Zoe Corrigall began with a mini facial, and the finished look made Hannah feel “like an absolute princess.”

Thoughtful Details Made the Day Meaningful
Hannah shared a tear-filled first look with her dad before meeting Matthew by the water outside their Airbnb. Matthew immediately told her how perfect the dress was. Then Hannah surprised him with a pin sewn inside his jacket—a small photo of his mother. “He told me it was one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done for him,” she recalled.

A Simple Aesthetic That Lets Nature Shine
Hannah and Matthew wanted their day to feel timeless and effortless. With the rugged Isle of Skye as their backdrop, they kept their color palette soft and natural—earthy browns, muted greens, and pale blues. “We wanted to let the beauty of the venue and setting speak for itself,” Hannah shared. The castle’s historic stone walls, surrounding hillsides, and mist rolling off the water helped shape a day that felt both intimate and cinematic.

Their decision to get married in Scotland happened almost by accident. After months of searching for U.S. and Bahamas venues that fit their budget, nothing felt quite right. One night, overwhelmed by planning, they asked themselves: What if we stopped looking here and looked somewhere we actually want to go? They sent a single inquiry to their favorite Scottish castle and were stunned when the reply came back at just £1,650 for full private access to one of the most photographed castles in the country. “From that moment, Scotland wasn’t just our dream vacation anymore, it was our dream wedding.”

Choosing Professionals Who Know the Landscape
Planning from overseas meant relying heavily on trusted connections. Their photographer, Junebug vendor David Conaty, played a huge role in shaping the experience. “Since the Isle of Skye is such a small place, he had worked with many local vendors and pointed us in the right direction,” Hannah explained. Multiple Zoom calls helped the couple map out everything—from ceremony logistics to their honeymoon route—and gave them confidence that their wedding team truly understood their vision.

An Isle of Skye Castle Ceremony
Seeing the Isle of Skye castle in person for the first time took their breath away. “Walking across the bridge felt like stepping into a fairytale,” Hannah said. Inside the 13th-century structure, surrounded by artifacts and centuries of stories, they incorporated a Celtic handfasting ritual using personalized cords.

When they tied the knot, the cord landed perfectly centered—something their celebrant said she had never seen before. It felt like a quiet symbol of harmony and balance, making the moment even more meaningful.

Unexpected Surprises That Made the Day Even Better
Minutes before walking down the aisle, Hannah realized she never chose a song. “I told them I’d just walk with no music and let the moment speak for itself.” The coordinator was shocked at how calm she was—until Hannah replied, “Funny you say that, I’m a nurse!”

Rain soaked her dress by the end of the night, making it surprisingly heavy. Thankfully, she had packed a spare dress and changed in the restaurant bathroom before continuing the celebration. “It couldn’t have been more perfectly imperfect.”

A Six-Course Local Feast
Their reception was held at the Duisdale, where they enjoyed a private six-course dinner featuring local Scotch, wine pairings, and flavors from the land, sea, and earth. The menu included haggis (which they ended up loving), whisky-cured salmon, Beef Wellington, halibut, and warm date sponge cake. “My dad still says it was the best meal he’s ever had,” Hannah said.
Final Reflections and Advice for Future Couples
Eloping ended up being one of the best decisions they ever made. It gave them a relaxed, meaningful celebration and ultimately helped them save enough to buy their first home. “Every second of our wedding and honeymoon was perfect. We wouldn’t change a thing.”

Their advice: “Do what feels right for you. Follow your heart, make it your own, and you won’t regret a single thing.”
