A Playful Boho Wedding in Spain Complete With Pizza and a Tattoo Artist

Angela and Rafa’s wedding in Spain was anything but ordinary. With a countryside setting, pizza for dinner, and even a live tattoo artist during the open bar, they made sure their day was packed with fun, surprises, and personality. It was the kind of wedding where traditions took a backseat—and love, laughter, and spontaneity led the way.

The couple’s  love story started long before the wedding day. They had seen each other often through mutual friends and always felt a strong connection, but life took its time. When they were finally single at the same time, Angela made the first move. “I proposed that we meet up, just the two of us, to really get to know each other,” she shared. The spark was undeniable and years later, it was clear their big day had to be just as authentic and personal as their journey.

From the start, they knew they didn’t want a typical celebration. “We wanted a wedding of our own, something special that really represented us.” With the help of a close friend (who later launched Bloom Studio Córdoba thanks to this experience!), they planned a special day that was fresh, full of creativity, and entirely them.

What We Love About This Wedding in Spain:

  • A natural countryside venue that felt like a hidden paradise
  • A playful Lego-themed seating chart that doubled as colorful keepsakes
  • Guests getting real tattoos during the open bar
  • Earthy, soft-toned outfits that kept the day feeling relaxed and natural
  • Pizza served for dinner, proving formal meals are optional

Where They Focused Their Budget (and Got Creative)

When it came to planning, Angela and Rafa focused their energy and their budget on the things that mattered most to them: flowers, photography, food, and music. “We knew those were the things we wanted to invest in to really make the day memorable.”

They chose their suppliers carefully to match their vision, including Junebug Vendor Monika Zaldo, whose beautiful, documentary-style photos captured every heartfelt and playful moment.

For many of the other details, they rolled up their sleeves and created them themselves. Like styling the sweets table, designing the open bar, and crafting the now-iconic Lego brick seating plan. Their hands-on approach made every part of the day feel even more meaningful.

Wedding Outfits That Felt Effortless, Not Overdone

Angela’s dress story was a little unexpected. “The concept of my dress was the complete opposite of what I wore. But when I saw myself in it, I knew it was the one. It really represented who I am.” Rafa kept it cool with a hat that gave his look the perfect laid-back touch.

They also asked guests to dress in earthy and pastel tones. And most importantly, to be comfortable. From the lace detailing on Angela’s gown to the relaxed, effortless style of the guests, everything about their wedding in Spain felt natural, true, and refreshingly unpretentious.

How Music Set the Mood for Their Wedding in Spain

Music was another important part of the day. Angela walked down the aisle to “The Wind” by Cat Stevens, while Rafa chose “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis. Their ceremony ended with a kiss as “Sweet Home Alabama” played in the background—a soundtrack that perfectly matched their playful energy.

Letting Nature Be the Ultimate Backdrop

Choosing the venue for their wedding in Spain was all about finding a space that felt untouched and natural. “We wanted a truly natural space, surrounded by countryside, hidden away. A place where no matter where you looked, there was nothing to break the magic of the moment.”

The open fields, wild beauty, and simple charm allowed their boho-romantic vision to shine without distraction. Vibrant floral compositions added pops of color everywhere, giving the whole day a whimsical and joyful feel.

Unexpected Moments That Made Their Wedding In Spain Unforgettable

If you thought things couldn’t get more fun, think again: they had a live tattoo artist set up during the open bar! “It was the craziest thing ever,” Angela said. “There were people getting tattooed for the first time!”

Later, instead of a formal sit-down dinner, they surprised everyone with boxes of pizza delivered straight to the party. The relaxed dinner setup encouraged everyone to gather, laugh, dance, and keep the celebration going into the night.

Angela even changed into a second, more comfortable dress for the open bar festivities. And shared a sweet dance with her mom to “Dancing Queen” by ABBA, creating another unforgettable memory.

Keeping It Real: Their Best Wedding Day Tip

Looking back, Angela and Rafa wouldn’t change a thing. Their biggest tip? “Be true to your personalities and show on the day what brought you together as a couple.” After all, the most memorable weddings aren’t perfect—they’re real, personal, and full of heart. Just like theirs.

Bold Looks and a Focus on Fun Made This Jewel Tone Wedding Unforgettable

May 5, 2025 | justine

What do you get when two stylish grooms, a dramatic emerald-and-gold vision, and a guest list that understands the assignment come together? A jewel tone wedding that’s bold, personal, and packed with unforgettable moments.

Brock and McKinley’s love story started online, both thinking they were in it for something casual. A handful of dates turned into something special faster than either of them expected. When COVID hit and the world shut down, their bond only grew stronger.

One early moment sealed the deal: just a week into dating, Brock fell seriously ill while staying at McKinley’s. “I went to the store in the middle of the night to get him medicine and even skipped an important conference the next day,” McKinley shared. “That was when we knew, we’d found our forever.”

Even before the proposal, McKinley had a Pinterest board dedicated to a green and gold wedding. “I’d been saving ideas for over a decade,” he said. And since Brock’s a lifelong Packers fan, the color palette was an easy win.

Though they didn’t hire a planner, their vendors played a key role. “Our vendors were amazing. They helped us figure out what we needed and when.” Early on, they found a rhythm—using planning templates and checklists to guide biweekly sessions where they tackled wedding to-dos together. “On Tuesdays, we picked topics. Sundays, we’d go deep and divide tasks,” they explained. It helped them stay on track and, more importantly, on the same page.

What We Love About This Jewel Tone Wedding:

  • The grooms’ epic fashion choices—yes to the emerald jacket and that jumpsuit-cape combo
  • Their choreographed lip-sync entrance to “It’s Raining Men” (instant icon status)
  • A ring-warming ceremony that brought the whole room into the moment
  • The emotional vows that had everyone crying
  • An intentional, joy-filled vibe that radiated through every detail—from signature drinks to packed dance floors

Prioritizing Representation in Vendor Selection

While scrolling Instagram and asking around for referrals, Brock and McKinley were clear about one thing: “We wanted vendors who were openly LGBT-friendly.”  They knew it would shape the entire atmosphere, and it did.

Their photographer and Junebug vendor Katherine Elyse Media, captured every emotional glance and moment of joy with a warm, candid style that matched the day perfectly.

Why They Skipped the Rehearsal Dinner

Instead of doing a traditional rehearsal dinner, Brock and McKinley threw a welcome party at The Well. It was relaxed, colorful, and full of laughter. Exactly the kind of energy they wanted leading into the wedding day. “It let everyone mix and feel part of the celebration from the start.”

Dressing for the Vibe, Not the Rulebook

McKinley ditched the idea of a traditional tux early. “When I saw the jumpsuit and cape, I knew,” he said. “It was bold, it was me.” Brock, never one to shy away from a statement, found the perfect emerald jacket online.

They encouraged their guests to wear jewel tones, and everyone absolutely delivered. “We said ‘formal’ but wanted people to feel amazing. Everyone looked stunning.” Their bridal party followed suit: satin champagne dresses with slits, letting each person’s style shine while staying cohesive.

Choosing a Venue That Felt Like Home

Hotel Covington stood out for many reasons, but one was most important: “They’re openly supportive of LGBTQ+ couples. From the start, they made us feel wanted and respected.”

The couple loved the layout too. The courtyard offered a romantic backdrop for their ceremony, while the indoor spaces created a seamless flow for the celebration that followed.

Jewel Tone Wedding Ceremony Moments They’ll Never Forget

The vows were the emotional centerpiece of the day. Written personally, they brought the house to tears. “That moment, saying those words in front of everyone we love, was unreal.”

Other standout details? McKinley’s dad walking him down the aisle, their friend Lia officiating a custom ceremony, and a string duo playing Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby” as a nod to their favorite show, Schitt’s Creek.

Being Realistic With Budget—While Still Going Big on Impact

With a guest list of about 125, Brock and McKinley focused on intentional choices that created an unforgettable experience without going over budget. They added unique touches like a ring-warming ceremony, wrote their own deeply personal vows, and made sure the drinks and music were on point.

One unexpected crowd-pleaser? A signature cocktail inspired by a drink they loved from Shark Tank. “We wanted a party with great drinks, a packed dance floor, and lots of little surprises.” Mission definitely accomplished.

From DIY Details to Champagne Sprays

They weren’t afraid to get hands-on. From setup to desserts baked by Brock’s coworker, nearly every detail had a personal touch. “It made it all feel more meaningful.”

After the ceremony, they celebrated with a champagne spray and a lip-sync grand entrance that got the whole crowd cheering. “We wanted our guests to feel like they were part of something epic—and they did.”

The dance floor stayed packed all night, proving that great music, a killer jewel tone wedding dress code, and genuine love make the perfect party combo.

A Jewel Tone Wedding Celebration Rooted in Meaning

Brock and McKinley’s big day is a reminder that the most meaningful weddings are about staying true to who you are. From the bold fashion to the intentional vendor choices and deeply personal ceremony, every detail reflected their love, values, and shared joy. This jewel tone wedding was more than just stylish—it was soul-filled. When you lead with authenticity and prioritize connection, you create something truly magical.

A Private Moment to Close the Night

After all the energy and celebration, the couple retreated to their room. Brock lit the fire, McKinley put on music, and they slow-danced under the stars on their terrace, just the two of them. “It was the perfect ending.”

A Mid-Century Micro Wedding Ceremony in Downtown Vancouver

May 4, 2025 | justine

Some weddings are years in the making. Others, like Erin and Lenkyn’s, come together in just a few weeks—intentionally, beautifully, and on their own terms. What started as a simple portrait session evolved into an incredibly heartfelt micro wedding ceremony in a mid-century Vancouver studio, surrounded by just eight of their closest loved ones.

Together for eight years, the couple knew exactly what mattered most: creating a moment that felt true to them. “We weren’t comfortable with a lot of traditional wedding customs. So our approach was to create a memory that felt authentic to us, no matter how small it might look to others.”

What We Love About This Micro Wedding Ceremony:

  • The effortlessly chic studio venue with natural light and Mediterranean design details
  • A portrait session-turned micro wedding ceremony, made possible by their supportive photographer
  • Skipping the bouquet and going minimal with florals and attire—100% their style
  • A short, sweet ceremony with their not-quite-three-years-old niece as ring bearer
  • A warm, quiet atmosphere that spotlighted their connection and the people they love

When The Photographer Becomes the Reason for the Venue

The planning process didn’t begin with a venue or theme, it started with a photographer. “We found Kelly through her website and social media. Her artistic approach and versatility of style really stood out to us.” What was originally booked as a portrait session soon became something more.

They chose The Lawrence Studio, a mid-century, Mediterranean-inspired space in downtown Vancouver with views of Victory Square and the kind of soft, natural light photographers dream of. “It was the perfect place for our photos and, as it turned out, large enough to host our tiny guest list. That was a happy bonus.”

With Kelly’s support, they added just 30 minutes to their session and invited their officiant and family to join. And just like that, a portrait session transformed into an unforgettable micro wedding ceremony.

Saying No to Traditions (And Yes to What Matters Most)

Erin and Lenkyn’s wedding was a beautiful example of doing things your own way. No big floral arrangements, no bouquet, and no lengthy vows—just their style, their way. “While our attire was simple and our florals minimal, they were exactly to our taste.”

Instead of focusing on “shoulds,” they focused on how they felt. “Interactions between us never feel contrived, so having a photographer like Kelly to capture that intimacy in a sparse-but-beautiful setting felt extremely natural for us.”

The Micro Wedding Ceremony: Short, Sweet, and Totally Theirs

With just a few short weeks to plan, the couple worked with officiant Karen to create something unique. “She was spectacular. Warm, thoughtful, and she really tailored it to us.” One extra-sweet touch: their not-quite-three-year-old niece stepping in as the ring bearer at just the right moment.

The result was a micro wedding ceremony that felt like an extension of who they are—simple, quiet, personal, and filled with love.

Their Best Advice for Other Couples

When asked what advice they’d offer other couples planning their own day, Erin and Lenkyn were clear: “Curate your wedding exactly to your personality and preferences. Include and skip traditions as feels most natural to you.”

After all, their favorite memory now is their wedding day. A day that reflected them completely. “We know that’s because it was entirely authentic to us as a couple.”

Whether you’re planning a full-scale wedding weekend or a quiet micro wedding ceremony, Erin and Lenkyn’s story shows how beautiful things can be when you let go of expectations and focus on what truly matters.
