Elegantly Minimalist Durban Backyard Wedding

August 2, 2021 | riley

There’s something about backyard weddings that we find oh-so-romantic–especially when the venue is a home with significant meaning to the couple. After getting engaged in November 2020, Abi and Brad knew they didn’t want to wait to tie the knot. So the couple said “I do” in a minimalist Durban wedding two months later at Abi’s childhood home.

With the help of Just Peachy Events SA, the couple transformed the backyard into an elegant ceremony and reception space full of simple black, white, and gold decor–letting South Africa’s lush foliage be the true highlight of the day.

So whether you’re looking to save money on the venue or you want to get married somewhere personal that holds a special place in your heart, this one’s for you. One look at these photos from Christy Hosking Photography will have you ready to plan your own backyard micro wedding.

The Bride On Hosting A Minimalist Durban Wedding

We had been together for seven years when we got engaged in November 2020 and had planned to have a big wedding in June of 2021. South Africa was then placed on a level three lockdown due to COVID-19. We had plans to buy the family home I grew up in and we knew that we didn’t want to wait to get married. So we decided the week of Christmas to go ahead and do an intimate ceremony on January 8th with our parents and my husband’s two brothers.

Letting Nature Be The Highlight Of The Decor

For the overall theme, I wanted the color scheme to be simple and minimalistic to match our style. That’s why we chose white, black, and gold for the table settings, florals, and wedding cake. January brings the summer rain in Durban, and the foliage in our garden was so lush that I wanted the landscaping to do most of the talking.

A Special Wedding Ring

My wedding band was a gift from my mom for Christmas. It was her wedding ring from her marriage to my late father who passed away in 2013, so this was very special to me.

Stunningly Tropical Blue Venado Wedding

Summer may slowly be coming to an end, but that’s not going to stop us from obsessing over tropical destination weddings. Jessie and Sage’s Blue Venado wedding has everything you could want in a Tulum wedding–including a seaside ceremony, a party under disco balls, and a late-night taco truck. Planner Sofia Garcia Weddings truly did an amazing job of transforming the private wedding venue into a Pinterest-worthy boho affair.

Wedding Planning Advice From The Bride

Don’t overthink all the small details. We wanted our wedding to be very stress-free and really focus on our marriage and being with our favorite people. That’s why we chose a destination wedding. The most important part of your wedding should be the marriage, not just the big celebration. But if you have an amazing wedding planner who takes your mood board and makes it come to life, that’s a plus!

Incorporating Unique Details At The Blue Venado Wedding

We chose a private venue in Mexico–Blue Venado–which made it very intimate and special for our guests and us. Our design was inspired by our different trips to Spain–the colors there and the beach, which is our favorite. It was very personalized to us as a couple.

The vibe was very beachy bohemian. We had disco balls hanging from the ceiling with pampas grass, and our tables were covered with bright flowers consisting of terracotta, mustard yellow, and dark orange colors. We had an amazing triangle arch with flowers pouring over it and rugs to walk down the aisle on the beach.

Airy, Stylish, And Contemporary Asian Wedding Inspiration

July 31, 2021 | riley

Here at Junebug, we love being able to share love of all shapes, sizes, colors, genders, and ages. So when Heather Sham Photography sent us this contemporary Asian wedding inspiration shoot she put together with videographer Hanh Made Films, we were excited, to say the least.

The two South-East Asian wedding vendors wanted to share Asian culture while highlighting other Asian wedding vendors. Thus the shoot was born. From the Chinese tea ceremony to signage with Chinese proverbs, every detail was carefully curated to represent the culture that they are so proud of. To say they nailed it is an understatement. This modern inspiration features incredible wedding fashion, detailed decor, and sunlit moments that transport you right into the venue. And don’t get us started on the carefully coordinated ceremony backdrop—keep scrolling to see what we mean.

When it comes to styled shoots, we love asking the vendors what their inspiration was, and here’s what Heather had to say about it:

Heather Sham Photography On The Inspiration Behind The Shoot

As South-East Asian wedding professionals, Hanh and I are very passionate about representing Asian culture, faces in the wedding industry, and uplifting other Asian wedding suppliers. We wanted to showcase an Asian wedding in an inspirational,  stylish, and contemporary way for couples planning their fusion weddings to allow the culture to be seen.

Our modern Asian wedding shoot brings a sophisticated, fresh, and updated approach to traditional elements you would expect from a Chinese or Vietnamese wedding. We used peach, mauve, and pinks instead of the traditional red for a modern and romantic look. Then, we incorporated gold for a luxurious and ‘lucky’ feel. The gold is woven in the stationery, embroidery, cake, and furniture.

Modernizing the Chinese Tea Ceremony

For the Chinese tea ceremony set up, we styled it using the traditional components of two chairs, cushions, and a tea set but also added unexpected elements, such as florals on the frame, a bamboo screen, and a handwritten sign with a Chinese proverb. We wanted to inspire couples to embrace an age-old tradition of exchanging tea with their elders on their wedding day by making it feel pretty and romantic.

Incorporating Chinese Symbols Throughout The Contemporary Asian Wedding

The Chinese double happiness symbol seen throughout the shoot represents double the joy and happiness for the newlyweds. It can be seen embroidered into the groom’s socks and pocket square and also in the stationery. It’s a positive reminder of the journey our couple is taking together. It’s an inspiration for the different ways in which this symbol can be weaved into a wedding.
