Romantic And Intimate Shakespeare Garden Elopement

March 1, 2021 | riley

Elopements have taken the world by storm thanks to COVID, and while they may not be the celebrations couples originally planned on having, we love how intimate they are. After months of planning, librarians Amanda and Caitlin opted for a Shakespeare Garden elopement as a nod to their time as booksellers and favorite date night activity.

Caitlin looked glamorous in her Eloquii blue sequined dress, and we’re obsessed with Amanda’s bridal suit. There’s nothing we love more than couples breaking wedding traditions, after all. And both styles fit perfectly with their New York city portraits by photographer Sylvie Rosokoff. Keep scrolling to take a stroll through this Big Apple elopement.

Why A Shakespeare Garden Elopement

We chose the Shakespeare Garden in Central Park as the site of our elopement because one of our favorite traditions–that started before we were even dating–has been to go to Shakespeare in the Park every summer together. We met as booksellers, and are now both librarians. Since we are also early risers we also wanted to marry early in the morning—it’s the perfect way to start the day. Marrying early allowed us to avoid the crowds and made us feel like we were all alone in Central Park.

Unique Bridal Fashion

For a long time, Caitlin thought that we would both be wearing suits at our wedding. However, after a long winter and COVID quarantining, she wanted something colorful and bright and sparkly; something that reflected how she felt–exuberant in love. She was able to find her blue sequined dress on Eloquii in the sale section after a long virtual search. It wasn’t so much about the brand or price of the dress but how it made her feel, which was incredible.

The Couple’s Favorite Photo At The Met

Our favorite photo was taken sitting on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a place we often visit in non-COVID times. We like to get lost amongst the art together. When we first saw this photograph as part of a sneak peek, we actually gasped. It’s of the two of us looking at each other, and Caitlin’s flowers resting against her foot. The colors are so vibrant, and our shared look is so clearly full of love. Sylvie was able to beautifully capture this moment of intimate joy. If we only had this photo of our wedding day, it would be more than enough.

Cultural Influences For An Ashland Wedding

My husband and I have both done a lot of traveling and we wanted our wedding to be vibrant and full of life to express some of the cultural vibes we have picked up over the years.

Two Families Coming Together As One

We had everyone hold a string of scarves during the ceremony so that everyone was connected at the same time. It was a magical feeling to have everyone’s love and energy flowing through the ceremony site. We were connected as one and everyone felt our love.

This Red And Sage Backyard Wedding Had A Special Fire Ceremony

February 25, 2021 | Junebug Weddings

Priscilla and Jake, like many other couples, had different wedding plans in mind prior to the pandemic, but they opted for a backyard wedding. In doing so they proved that backyard weddings don’t have to feel like your backyard, especially when adding bohemian decor, a Spanish theme, and a fire unity ceremony—yes, we said fire. With help from their families, this couple DIYed their entire wedding—well, almost everything.

Thankfully Junebug member Boutique Weddings + Adventure Elopements captured all the details of this wedding. Get ready to see a burgundy suit, a Mariachi band, and Filipino and Mexican-inspired food with this red and sage backyard wedding.

Wedding Advice for Pandemic Nearlyweds

We had a small and intimate wedding with around 35 guests so we were able to manage just fine. For a bigger wedding, we would recommend an event planner or someone designated to worry about all the small details. It’s so easy to get lost in the moment and leave things out!

Why A Red And Sage Backyard Wedding?

Due to the pandemic, we had to reconsider our original Mayan Ceremony and Tulum wedding plan. So we waited for a better time, but we couldn’t wait any longer. Just a month out, we decided we already had everything we needed and our backyard was the perfect setting. It would also give some of our friends and family an opportunity to visit our home.

Personalized Sage Backyard Wedding

We wanted the whole day to feel natural and organic so we chose to have Jake’s best friend officiate the ceremony. It didn’t feel right going with someone who didn’t know our story personally. We also incorporated a lasso rosary which is popular in Mexican and Filipino weddings to represent unity and new beginnings.

DIYed Backyard Wedding Decor

As creatives, Jake and I really wanted to do it all ourselves—I have always wanted to style a wedding. For months, I thrifted and collected brass candlesticks, glass cylinders, vintage luggage and suitcases, candles, etc. My dad and brother made our triangle altar, a pallet wall for hanging photos, and helped set up string lights. I ordered all the flowers and greenery wholesale and decorated our altar myself the day of the wedding. I also made a flower wall with faux grass, wicker baskets, and red roses to play off of the boho vibe. Jake and I even made our own piñata from scratch! We kept joking that this was the biggest production of our lives, but it turned out to be true.

The Couple’s Favorite Moment Captured

There is a photo of us taken towards the end of the night—the mariachi band is playing, our guests are enjoying the warm fire, Jake is wearing a Mariachi hat (that is too small for his head), we are facing our party but looking at each other. There is a sense of accomplishment and love in both of our faces. I honestly didn’t even know Yana was behind us taking this photo. This is what it’s all about!
