Absolutely Stunning Penha Longa Wedding

February 26, 2022 | riley

There’s just something timeless and magical about a wedding venue with a rich history. Imagine a 14th-century monastery with palazzo-style buildings and an ornate interior overlooking Portugal’s spectacular Sintra region. It’s no surprise that Marine and Benjamin chose this dreamy setting for their big day. Planner Hayden Events made their wedding dreams come true at this absolutely stunning Penha Longa wedding.

Their wedding took place across three different incredible locations of Penha Longa Resort, starting with exchanging their vows in a traditional ceremony at the beautiful romanesque chapel. Florist Decorelle created a romantic scene with gorgeous pink and red florals and lots of ivory taper candles as their celebration continued at the luxurious Nobre Room. Following the dinner reception, the couple and their guests danced the night away at the charming open courtyard.

If you’re looking for historic architecture, beautiful gardens, and amazing views as the backdrop for your “I do’s,” then you need to see these gorgeous photos captured by Alex Tome and get ready to see some serious romantic destination wedding inspiration!

Bright and Colorful Estate Wedding in Mexico

February 24, 2022 | riley

Despite never having visited San Miguel de Allende before their special day, Garance and Clayton knew they wanted to have a destination wedding in Mexico. And after booking Junebug member and planner Bougainvillea Weddings, they made their dreams come true in a colorful estate wedding at Casa Hyder

On their special day, the two fully embraced Mexican culture with a bold color palette, Moravian star lanterns above them as they exchanged vows, and a Mexican feast consisting of quesadillas and tamales. As if that wasn’t enough of a fiesta, the day also included a surprise firework display, a midnight taco bar, and a Patron ice luge in which many tequila shots were taken!

With warm weather right around the corner, this party has us inspired to pack our bags, grab our passports, and hop on a plane. We promise one look at these photos beautifully captured by Carlos Elizondo will have you doing the same. So keep scrolling and get ready to book a one-way flight to paradise.

Creating A Wedding Budget

I knew I wanted a beautiful wedding, which meant quality over quantity, so we decided to cap our guest list to 150 people–our favorite everyday people. Not our parent’s best friend’s sister who we hadn’t seen in 10 years. We didn’t feel bad saying no. We had to think about what was most important to us–venue first, then photographers, then DJ, then flowers, then food. That was my order, but they were all equally gorgeous. No expenses surprised me because I would cut out the things that made me go over budget.

Memorable Moments That Include A Secret Vow Exchange

Clayton and I had a “secret” vow exchange prior to the official ceremony where we each hid on one side of a wall and, without seeing each other, read our personal vows. It was so intimate, sweet, and very special. I could barely hold myself together during them. Other than that particular moment, I wouldn’t be able to say what my favorite part of the night was because everything was so perfect. From being pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Allen to our (very loud and fun) entrance to the ice luge shots–every single part was magical.

Incorporating Family Into The Ceremony

My 82-year-old grandfather officiated our ceremony and it was so special! We each wrote what we wanted him to say and he executed it beautifully. Of course, it also made everyone laugh and cry.

How The Colorful Estate Wedding In Mexico Came To Be

My dad, stepmom, and sister had all been to San Miguel before and had told me before I got engaged that I should get married there. My stepmom had heard about the Hyder House and told me how beautiful it was. Once it was time to pick a venue, we decided to take a leap of faith and signed a contract with my planner Estella and the Hyder House. It was the best decision of my life.

Working With Junebug Member Bougainvillea Weddings

From the moment I met Estella over Zoom, I knew she would take care of me and have everything under control. She delivered expertise, knowledge, calmness, and exactly what she promised. This wedding would not have been possible without my amazing parents, wonderful stepmom, and incredible wedding planner. I am forever grateful to all of them. If there is one piece of advice I’d give, it’s to pick the right wedding planner. Pick the one that works for you and is willing to listen to you. Estella thought I was easy, but all I did was tell her what my dream wedding would look like and she made it happen.

Epic North Cascades National Park Elopement

February 23, 2022 | riley

Cote and David wanted the focus of their wedding to not be on flowers, decor, or centerpieces but on sharing meaningful moments with their loved ones surrounded by beautiful scenery. Because it was the first time that both of their families would all be together in one place at the same time, the couple set out to make their elopement experience to be unforgettable. Thankfully, the spectacular mountain range truly showed up for them during sunrise and sunset at their epic North Cascades National Park elopement.

Although their elopement wasn’t originally the plan, with the breathtaking sea of mountains in the background as they exchanged their vows, it’s safe to say it worked out perfectly. Their beautiful ceremony was followed by an intimate reception at the Misty River Ranch. From the thoughtful wedding menu and homemade wedding cake to the custom gift bags filled with personalized goodies, the couple put a lot of love into each and every detail. Scroll through to find out more about their love story through these breathtaking photos by Henry Tieu.

Challenges That Worked Out In The End

There were moments in the weeks leading up to the wedding where we questioned whether anything would come together. We faced a lot of unexpected challenges in those weeks and spent hours trying to make alternative plans. In the end, every part of our wedding day was perfect—from the 2:30 am wake up to eating leftover cake right out of the fridge at midnight, the day was everything we could have hoped it would be and more.

A Powerful Ceremony Reading About Marriage Equality

We included the passage below from the Supreme Court’s majority opinion in our ceremony. In the opinion, Justice Kennedy writes: “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

Last Minute Change That Led To Their Epic North Cascades National Park Elopement

Our venue was really chosen out of necessity. After the wildfires forced a change of plans, we had to find a new location days before the ceremony. You can hold an intimate ceremony in any number of places, but where were we going to eat and celebrate? We found a place online just 30-minutes from the new ceremony spot. We were told that they normally don’t accommodate weddings during the week, but when we explained our predicament, this saint of a woman from Misty River Ranch agreed to host us for our reception just two days before the wedding. It wasn’t our original idea, but it was our only option, and it turned out perfectly.

An Adventure North Cascades National Park Elopement With Family And Friends

When we set out to plan our elopement, we knew this would be the first time both our families would all be together in one place at the same time. We knew they’d be traveling long distances, so we wanted it to be a memorable elopement for them as well. In the end, it was effortless. We spent three days together sharing meals, hiking through the mountains, laughing, and creating memories to last a lifetime.

Working With Henry Tieu Photography

Working with Henry Tieu was an absolute dream. On a day where you’re being asked to express uninhibited love and affection with your person, it’s critical to find someone that puts you both at ease. We joked, shared laughs throughout the day, and got to know Henry for the wonderful guy he is. He provided tremendous instruction and guidance while still allowing us to be ourselves. Henry captured our love story in photographs, and we are forever grateful for that. Our decision to work with Henry was an exercise in trust and gut instinct. Ultimately, he played a critical part in our special day, and we couldn’t be more pleased with our wedding gallery. He’s truly a master of his trade and a phenomenal photographer to work with.

Thoughtful DIY Wedding Details

While we knew the photographer and caterer were areas we wanted to splurge on, we figured the wedding cake was one we could do ourselves. David enjoys baking and, with a few practices and taste tests with friends, got the recipe just right for the occasion. We ended up with a two-tier, semi-naked, Amaretto cake with a vanilla cream cheese frosting finished with fresh flowers and greenery. We also made our boutonnieres. We wanted a small personal detail that represented us and our relationship. We both have a love of beer and met at the annual brew fest in Michigan. Every year, we attend to celebrate another year together. We picked hops from the fields surrounding David’s childhood home for our boutonnieres. The hops were joined by a sprig of rosemary because it represents love and loyalty.
