While winter settled into Des Moines, Emily and Ryan were bringing 60 of their favorite people to Mexico for a wedding weekend that felt more like a vacation with family and friends than a formal production. Their Tulum resort wedding felt intentionally relaxed, with the focus staying on time together rather than overpacked timelines or formal traditions.
The couple first connected through Instagram, and from the beginning, they knew they wanted their wedding to feel less formal and more enjoyable for the people around them. Junebug vendor Jason Thomas Crocker Photography, noticed that immediately. “I knew they were mostly focused on enjoying themselves, celebrating, and creating a fun experience for their guests,” he shared. “Hence the destination wedding.”
What We Love About This Tulum Resort Wedding:
- The relaxed atmosphere that kept the focus on people instead of pressure
- A quiet first look before the festivities officially began
- The emotional moments shared with Emily’s son Jace
- A wedding weekend timeline that never felt rushed
- The way the entire celebration felt warm, welcoming, and easygoing

Letting Guests Actually Enjoy the Weekend Together
One of the biggest things Emily and Ryan got right was resisting the urge to overfill the weekend. Rather than filling every moment with activities, their Tulum resort wedding gave guests time to relax, spend time together, and actually enjoy the weekend at their own pace.
The relaxed atmosphere started before the wedding day itself, including at the rehearsal gathering that Jason photographed earlier in the weekend.
“I photographed the rehearsal, which I love doing when possible,” he explained. “It gives me a chance to meet a bunch of guests before the wedding day and start to build rapport with everyone, making it a lot easier to build trust on wedding day.”
That extra time together made the entire celebration feel even more comfortable and personal once the wedding day arrived.

Taking a Quiet Moment Together Before the Celebration Began
Before the ceremony, Emily and Ryan shared a first look in a quiet area of the resort away from the crowd and activity. Instead of jumping straight into the schedule of the day, they intentionally made time to be together privately first.
“We went to a beautiful quiet area on the resort so Emily and Ryan could enjoy some time together alone before the start of the festivities,” Jason shared.
That slower pace became one of the defining parts of their Tulum resort wedding. Nothing felt overly rushed or performative. Even with a full wedding weekend unfolding around them, the focus stayed on simply being present with each other and the people who came to celebrate alongside them.

Keeping the Focus on the People Around Them
Looking back, what made this wedding especially memorable was how consistently the focus stayed on people and experience over perfection. The atmosphere remained celebratory and approachable throughout the day, allowing emotional moments and fun moments to happen naturally side by side.
Some of the most meaningful moments involved Emily’s son Jace, whose presence became one of the most meaningful parts of the celebration.
Rather than focusing on creating a picture-perfect production, their Tulum resort wedding prioritized the kind of atmosphere where people could simply enjoy being together.

Creating a Celebration People Could Actually Enjoy
Emily and Ryan’s wedding showed that a destination celebration doesn’t need an overpacked schedule to feel memorable. Sometimes simply creating space for people to enjoy being together is enough. “When planning, create a day or experience that resonates with you two as a couple,” Jason shared. “The rest will fall into place.”
By the end of the weekend, that philosophy was exactly what made Emily and Ryan’s Tulum resort wedding feel so memorable. Every part of the celebration reflected what mattered most to them: meaningful moments, quality time, and creating a wedding experience people could truly enjoy together.
