Timeless Bosch Hoek Wedding in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Midlands

November 22, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Talk about a romantic affair! We’re smitten with Victoria and Marc’s timeless wedding at Bosch Hoek in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The couple hired planning rockstars from Oh Happy Day to help them create the day of their dreams complete with decor from The Wedding Table and House of Hudson. Victoria wanted her bridal look to resemble her daily look of “glowy, bronzed, and fresh.” Her clean, modern White Lilly Bridal dress and Jimmy Choo shoes were the perfect mix to pull off the essence of everyday simplicity! Get ready to fall in love with every photo Vanilla Photography captured of this sweet day at Bosh Hoek.

The Couple:

Victoria & Marc

The Wedding:

Bosch Hoek, South Africa

I can honestly say I had the ‘dream team’ in terms of vendors. They have all worked together countless times so really just made the day so seamless. Every single one of them were extremely professional and worked their magic to perfection. I really felt very lucky to have the team that I did.

My dress was clean and modern and I wanted to make up to resemble the usual look I go for on a daily basis; glowy, bronzed and fresh. My make up artist had her work cut out as she got quite the comprehensive brief, but she nailed it. Accessories wise – I kept this minimal too with pearl drop earrings only. My shoes were nude Jimmy Choo heels.

Wedding planning advice from the bride: I loved the planning process and loved being involved it it from start to finish. A big factor in enjoying this process was having the planning team I had (Oh Happy Day). They took any unnecessary stress off me and thought of things I could never have done on my own. I think it’s important to decide what is important to you as a couple from the get-go, and stick to prioritizing those things throughout.

I can honestly say that every element of the day was so incredibly memorable for us; from walking down the aisle and greeting our guests at canapes to the photo shoot (which was such a fun time with our bridal party and time alone as a couple) and speeches and the celebration that followed. You will never feel that sheer amount of happiness and love in one day and being surrounded by everyone we loved was just unforgettable.

Bosch Hoek is a place I have grown up visiting and is close to my hometown. I knew I didn’t want a traditional wedding venue and wanted to be able to build our day from scratch. Bosch Hoek allowed for this and their beautiful surroundings and accommodation made it feel like the homely wedding we wanted.

The theme was classic, timeless, modern and fresh and we steered clear of anything too rustic, vintage or cluttered. We chose to personalize the day with my favorite scents from Jo Malone. We chose a scent combination and used candles down all the tables and in the bathrooms. Scent is so important to me and I loved the special touch this added, and my guests loved it too.

Rustic Whidbey Island Wedding at Fireseed Catering with a Timeless Touch

March 8, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Brittany and Tyler’s wedding at Fireseed Catering was as charming as they come! The floral design created by Tobey Nelson Events perfectly complemented the natural flora and fauna of Whidbey Island and the addition of candles and wood decor rounded out the rustic look. Photographer Malorie Kerouac was on hand to capture every dreamy moment, from their sweet woodsy portraits to their garden ceremony. The bride’s stunning gown from La Belle Elaine’s was the perfect combination of modern and timeless, and her girls’ merlot-colored gowns added a pop of sophisticated color. If you’ve been looking for romantic, rustic wedding inspiration, you’ve just hit the jackpot!

The Couple:

Brittany and Tyler

The Wedding:

Fireseed Catering, Whidbey Island, Washington

The most important thing was to create a day that felt like us, the ideal day that Tyler and I could ever have together. It was important for us to enjoy the process and stay present in the moment.

My fashion/beauty idea was to be timeless and sophisticated, yet fun! I ended up with an ivory crepe, V-neck dress (timeless!) with an illusion lace back and tulip lace train. I loved that I felt so classic but also had fun aspects in the back. My hairstyle was similar — it was a curly ponytail with jewel accessories near the base. I loved this style because it showed off my long hair but still kept it out of my face.

The most memorable part of the day was our ceremony. More specifically, the processional, hand-fasting and recessional. Tyler and I both have heavy Scottish heritage, so I surprised him on the day of the wedding with a bag-piper! The piper played during the processional and also lead us out of the ceremony as husband and wife. The top memory was when we did the traditional hand-fasting ceremony. We had both of our sets of parents place braided ropes that were different colors to represent our hopes for our lives (for example, green for health). The final rope was our two Scottish clan tartans braided together, which was laid and then tied by our Officiant. The bagpiper played during this portion and Tyler was so surprised. The look on his face at that moment was my favorite!! The moment I walked down the aisle to the piper was his favorite.

We wanted the wedding to be a timeless event but also one where our guests felt totally at ease to either enjoy the great outdoors and/or tear up the dance floor! Tyler and I are the types of people who will host a classy, sparkly dinner party but then round up our friends around a raging bonfire. We wanted our wedding to have the same vibe.

We are from California and Washington. For the seating chart, I did a wood cut-out of the two states and attached them next to each other. Each table was a place that was special to us from these two states, so we put the corresponding number on each state like a map.

This Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Proves That Timeless Style is Far from Boring

January 6, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Charmaine and Scott’s Hawaii wedding at Olowalu Plantation House was as classic and timeless as could be! The couple knew they didn’t want anything trendy for their special day so that, when they look back on these stunning photos from Water Gypsies Photography, they love them as much as they do today. With that goal in mind, the couple tasked Opihi Love with helping them create a charming setup for their ceremony with cafe lights and lanterns strung through the trees and elegant design for their reception with cream-colored linens, minimal gold table decor, and simple white floral centerpieces created by Lois Hiranaga Floral Design. The stunning grounds of the plantation truly spoke for itself, so they didn’t need to add much decor to create an incredible look. Plus, easy access to the waterfront afforded them the opportunity for some killer newlywed photos along with the classic portraits!

The Couple:

Charmaine and Scott

The Wedding:

Olowalu Plantation House, Maui, Hawaii

For our wedding, we had 3 major goals we wanted to hit: good food, good drinks, and good entertainment.

Our advice for couples that are planning their own weddings is simple: don’t become a crazy person. Stay true to yourself and set a budget!

We gave out individually boxed donuts. Because we figured guests usually throw away their favors, we opted for edible favors that guests would enjoy.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Water Gypsies Photography
Event Planning – Opihi Love
Venue – Olowalu Plantation House
Floral Design – Lois Hiranaga Floral Design

Timeless and Intimate Winter Edmonton Wedding at The Foundry Room

September 25, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With winter just around the corner, we’re all in for Allison and Brayden’s wildly romantic elopement at The Foundry Room in Edmonton, Canada. The industrial space was the most perfect backdrop for the timeless and dramatic look that Cocktails and Details curated specifically for this couple. In just 5 months, they created a cozy ceremony with a candle-lined aisle, a low floral altar backdrop, and a seasonal garland arch created by Fabloomosity and a reception dinner at one of the couple’s favorite restaurants, RGE RD. Allison and Brayden chose sophisticated attire for themselves and for their 5-person wedding party in romantic jewel tones, which added a touch of glam that’s just so fitting for a winter wedding. Photographer Sharon Litchfield was the perfect choice to capture the mood, the impeccable design, and the emotional moments of this special day.

The Couple:

Allison and Brayden

The Wedding:

The Foundry Room, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

We both really wanted our wedding to be a reflection of our marriage: thoughtful, intimate and deeply personal. Neither of us ever envisioned a large elaborate wedding so it was easy to decide on a small elopement-style ceremony. Apart from our vendors and our witnesses, we didn’t inform anyone we were getting married! It was amazing to experience the surprise and celebration with our family and friends over the coming weeks as we shared our amazing news.

A small, personal ceremony allowed us to truly acknowledge what was important as a couple and focus on what we wanted to give each other in our marriage. We were then able to choose elements of the day that would be most memorable to each of us. As a chef, Brayden was able to emphasize amazing food and wine. For myself, I wanted an intimate romantic ceremony with beautiful fashion and décor. We also chose our wedding date, the “Family Day” long weekend, to always symbolize the importance of creating and nurturing a family together.

The wedding vows were certainly the most significant part of our wedding day. Along with our amazing officiant, we chose modern vows; those celebrating a true partnership based on equality, encouragement and mutual support for each other. We also independently wrote personal vows – with the real tear-jerker coming when we ended with the exact same words, “You are my favourite. Today and always, I choose you.” The intimacy of a small ceremony allowed us to express our love for each other with those that would ultimately support us most throughout our marriage.

While we could have eloped in a destination setting, our home community still felt like the right place to start our marriage together. Edmonton has been very supportive to both our careers and is the place we truly call home. It was important for us to celebrate where we established ourselves as both individuals and a couple. We also wanted to get married where we planned to raise our family. All of the vendors were local Edmontonians, down to the wedding accessories!

We planned our wedding in less than 5 months – and we would do it the same way again! Not allowing ourselves too much time to fret about the picky details was critical. By choosing to get married “off-season” on a winter Sunday, we were also able to secure our wedding planner and all of our top vendors on a short timeline. We kept our guest list unapologetically tiny; ultimately our extended families and friends were super supportive! Just because you have a small wedding, doesn’t mean you should short-change yourselves. Use the money you save on the giant guest list to invest in what is truly important to you. For us, that meant prioritizing amazing photos, décor, and food! It also meant securing a planner to worry about the logistics and facilitate our vision. In the end, our wedding was more about celebrating our marriage than the anxiety of planning.

Because of our small wedding party, we had the opportunity to consider many different venues for our dinner reception. The restaurant community in Edmonton is quite small and Brayden has many friends who own some beautiful spaces with great food. RGE RD, in particular, was at the top of our list for a few reasons: rustic and warm décor, absolutely delicious locally sourced food & drink, and ownership we knew we could trust to make our day extra special. The menu was expertly curated to suit both of our tastes. Everyone was absolutely stuffed with what will forever be the best wedding meal that ever was!

This Intimate Southern Hotel Wedding in Covington, LA is the Epitome of Timeless Romance

July 11, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

If you’re looking for proof that timeless wedding elegance will never go out of style, look no further than Marla and Alejandro’s Southern Hotel wedding in Louisiana! The couple and their talented friends and family DIY-ed nearly every detail of their special day, from the flowers to the cookie favors, and the result could not have been more beautiful. Because they intentionally kept all the details simple, the bride’s stunning BHLDN lace gown, the groom’s suave look from Suitsupply, and the intimate moments September Company captured took center stage. After a dreamy ceremony in the hotel’s courtyard and photos in both the gardens and the elegant interior, Marla, Alejandro, and their guests ended the day at The Lakehouse for a reception that was relaxed yet still timeless and elegant.

The Couple:

Marla and Alejandro

The Wedding:

Southern Hotel and The Lakehouse, Covington, Lousiana

We wanted the wedding to feel intimate and true to our personal styles. We only invited our close family and friends for an intimate gathering. We wanted the night to feel timeless and romantic.

Our first look was the most memorable because we were able to have some time to ourselves and it calmed any nerves or stress we were having to just be close to one another before all the guests arrived. Our photographers Caitlyn and Thad made the whole process stress free and fun.

Our ceremony was very personal to us and was officiated and personalized by Marla’s brother. Alejandro’s uncle wrote a beautiful speech and his sister read a poem in Spanish to honor Alejandro’s late father. We also had a string trio to play during the ceremony and it felt absolutely magical.

We DIY-ed our floral elements, cake, gifts, and invitations. Our invitations were handmade one-by-one by Alejandro’s cousin. We bought all the flowers form Trader Joe’s and assembled all the bouquets and boutonnieres the day before the wedding with the help of the bridal party. The eucalyptus ceremony arch piece was from my mom’s eucalyptus tree and my bridesmaids assembled it the morning of the wedding. Our cake, a secret-recipe orange cake with pineapple filling, was made by Alejandro’s mom, and our wedding favors were cookies made by Alejandro’s sister.

Timeless Got a Chic Update in This Yale Union Wedding

May 3, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Lauren and Jon made classic look totally chic in their Portland wedding at Yale Union. The white-washed interior of the historic arts building made the couple’s burgundy and emerald green color palette pop brilliantly and offered a subtle industrial-chic vibe to the otherwise elegant look. Their ceremony and reception decor were focused on Christmas-inspired greenery and the prettiest red and pink roses arranged by Edelweiss Floral Co.. Lauren’s two-piece sweater and skirt ensemble from BHLDN also played with a modern twist on the classic white wedding dress, and Jon’s emerald velvet jacket from Bonobos was the perfect choice to add a touch of his personality to the style of this wedding. Between the dark wood tables lined with evergreen garlands, the calligraphy-printed scroll table runner, and the delicate hanging floral hoops for the ceremony backdrop, we adore every detail of this timeless wedding and could not be more grateful that Olivia Strohm Photography was there to capture every Pinterest-worthy moment.

Timeless Meets Contemporary in This Ebell Long Beach Wedding

October 26, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Jessell and Andrew’s classic Ebell Long Beach wedding is picture perfect with the timeless style and details. Jessell is as glamorous as ever in her Watters gown and long, loose curls thanks to Jackie Su Artistry. With her groom in a Calvin Klein navy suit, Jessell and Andrew perfectly encompass an elegant and classic look. Adding in some cultural traditions in their wedding ceremony, the two sweethearts truly made their wedding day unique and special to them. All of this goodness was captured by In Frames Photography and DP Weddings.

The Couple:

Jessell and Andrew

The Wedding:

Ebell Long Beach, Long Beach, California

We wanted something timeless and unique. Something that we can look back on 50 years later and say I loved that dress.

There were a lot of important aspects that we considered when planning our wedding. I believe that the ambiance would be the most significant. We were determined to create an atmosphere that was timeless and unique. We wanted our guests to feel elegant and have them escape from reality for the day.

I know it’s inevitable, but don’t stress yourself while planning your wedding. Enjoy and take in the moments you get to share with your fiance – spending time and making decisions together. Don’t worry about having the PERFECT wedding. If you invite people that you both love and choose vendors you can trust – everything will fall into place.

Definitely the character. I didn’t have to worry about hiding any part of the venue. ALL of the details were beautiful, from the bridal suite, to the ceremony space to the cocktail room. We choose decor that enhanced the venue, not hide it.

The most memorable part of the day would have to exchanging our vows. We incorporated meaningful Filipino/Spanish traditions into our ceremony and had the most amazing officiant who carried everything out seamlessly. There were lots of tears and a whole lot of love. I just felt it.

Our photographer, In Frames Photography, was AMAZING. She made us feel SO comfortable, confident, and BEAUTIFUL. It really shows in the photos. We didn’t feel awkward at all! I felt like we’ve known her for forever!

You’ll Love the Boho Vibes in This Timeless Saucon Valley Country Club Wedding

April 2, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Chelsea and Seth’s wedding at Saucon Valley Country Club was the perfect combination of sophistication and bohemian charm. Having been together since college, it was important to them to integrate sentimental places and details to make their day truly unique and special. They exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at their college church, where they met, then danced the night away at the country club where Seth asked his future father-in-law for Chelsea’s hand in marriage. The rustic, bohemian-inspired decor beautifully integrated with the venue’s chic vibe to create a romantic and welcoming ambiance. AGPcollective captured every detail beautifully, including both first looks with the bride’s parents and with her groom.

The Couple:

Chelsea and Seth

The Wedding:

Saucon Valley Country Club, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

We made gift bags for each of the guests that they received when they arrived at the hotel. Each gift included:
Bag: printed with an outline of Pennsylvania with a heart on Bethlehem, PA
Timeline: custom card outlining the weekend’s activities
Coffee mug & beans: because I just love coffee too much
Tasty Cakes & Hertz Chips: both Philly foods
Custom water bottles with our logo

From the photographer: We photographed Chelsea’s ring – an heirloom stone plucked from a necklace belonging to the groom’s grandmother – atop handmade paper with the lyrics for “Georgia On My Mind,” a nod to the bride’s home state. When the pair was falling in love, Seth used these lyrics as his away message on AIM (talk about modern romance!).

While getting ready with my family and bridesmaids, my husband had a few presents delivered. He created a book outlining the “essential rules for a successful marriage.” For every rule he gave me a small present – for example, for communication, I received walkie talkies. The last rule was “family first,” and my Maid of Honor handed me a computer showing a video that he had filmed. The short film was about growing our future family, and that would start with a puppy! The film was him interviewing several dogs from different kennels asking ridiculous questions. Now, 6 months later, we have our little golden puppy, Franklin!

Saucon Valley Country Club is special for many reasons. One being its proximity to our college, Lehigh University, where our relationship started. It’s also the place where Seth met my family for the first time, and where he asked my dad for permission to marry me (on the 9th hole of the golf course).

My favorite photos came from the first look! It was a last-minute decision to do a first look. Now looking back, those twenty minutes were the most special. We were both so emotional and so happy. Sarah did a great job capturing that exact moment!

We had a Catholic ceremony without the traditional mass. Seth and I selected specific songs and readings that we identified most with. The chapel is old with high ceilings and large stain glass windows. I wanted the church to be pouring out with flowers…and flowers were certainly everywhere!

The most important thing for us was that all the guests felt welcomed, relaxed, and had one heck of a party to remember! The wedding was not only a celebration for Seth and me, but for all our friends and family that have supported us throughout the years. We made sure everyone was included in the rehearsal dinner, transportation was offered at all hotels (to and from the ceremony and reception), and the tasty food and drinks were bottomless!

Timeless Catskills Barn Wedding at Handsome Hollow

January 11, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

timeless-catskills-barn-wedding-at-handsome-hollow-1-2

Megan and Dan are the definition of jet-setters: the couple planned their wedding while maintaining a long-distance relationship between New York and Boston, and Megan spent the weeks just before her wedding in Uganda and Rwanda. It was important for the couple to find stellar vendors who can also communicate over Skype and email, and we think they totally nailed it! We are so in love with the rustic whimsical floral design from Peartree Flowers, and we think UNIQUE LAPIN Photography‘s documentation of the couple’s day perfectly captures Megan and Dan’s personalities. Megan and Dan’s wedding at Handsome Hollow perfectly combines cool Brooklyn vibes with Catskills-worthy countryside charm!

The Couple:

Megan and Dan

The Wedding:

Handsome Hollow, Long Eddy, New York

timeless-catskills-barn-wedding-at-handsome-hollow-42

We were at our wits’ end when it came to choosing a venue. We needed to book a locale before Megan‘s coming travel, and after visiting so many venues in Boston and New York, we were cutting it close. Megan suggested visiting a new place in the Catskills, between the two cities: Handsome Hollow. It was perfect! Bucolic and rustic yet updated with wonderful style.

timeless-catskills-barn-wedding-at-handsome-hollow-47

We met while hiking in Montana, so an outdoor barn wedding was a more natural fit for us compared to the more urban choices in Boston and NYC/Brooklyn. Everything from the charming farmhouse to the ubiquitous cinnamon ferns wooed us with its beauty. We knew Handsome Hollow created a vibe that reflected the both of us and would be a delight for our guests to visit.

Megan was abroad in Uganda and Rwanda at the onset of wedding planning, so we needed to find wedding vendors who could communicate with us via Skype and email. Around that time, we were also long distance between New York and Boston, so a good portion of our phone calls were devoted to wedding talk. We would trade off between making inquiries, follow-ups, and scheduling, so our communication with one another had to be on point.

Sharing our personal vows to one another in front of our dear friends and family was by far one of the most meaningful experiences for both of us. We both tend to be on the more reserved end of the “public affection spectrum” so openly expressing our dedication and love for each other meant so much. Surprisingly, we both vowed to make the other our priority, which serves as a reminder to the dedication we hold to one another when we say “you’re my priority.”

Our advice: For those like us who find making decisions a challenge, give yourself a deadline for all wedding decisions. You’ll save yourself a wee bit of agony and move forward with more ease. Decision fatigue set in for the both of us, made all the more difficult by the weight and cost of all the choices.

We ordered a smaller wedding cake, supplemented with a variety of passed desserts. This worked out quite well, as everyone was able to enjoy cake if they liked, or sample another sweet if they preferred.
