A Decade of Adventures Inspired Their One-of-a-Kind Fagradalsfjall Elopement

We went on adventures together for more than ten years, so we wanted our wedding to match our relationship. We started dating when we were both 18 and got married at 29. In those years, we did a lot together and wanted our wedding to be like that. We wanted our wedding to show who we are as a couple, and we managed to do that. Every aspect of the day was memorable in its own way. We had always planned to get married in Iceland. We fell in love with the country back when he visited in 2019. However, having an erupting volcano alongside us the entire day was definitely something we will never forget.

Dana and Arlan’s wedding vision was truly shaped by the stunning location they chose. The vintage atmosphere overlooking the Pacific provided the ideal backdrop for the ambiance they wanted. With a rich, earthy color palette and subtle hints of blue, complemented by nostalgic elements such as record players and disposable cameras, their cozy Timber Cove Resort wedding felt like a dream come true. Everything fell into place beautifully, resulting in a celebration that exceeded all their expectations.

Set against the majestic sea backdrop, the ceremony was a breathtaking scene for their romantic exchange of vows. It was followed by a terrace reception, allowing guests to enjoy the same stunning view. The tables were adorned with lovely vintage settings and earthy blooms complemented by lush greenery—an overall charming tablescape. Crafting a Cozy Timber Cove Resort Wedding

The ceremony was very romantic and memorable. Our officiant was a family friend, and the service was held primarily in Russian as both myself and Arlan are originally from Kazakhstan, though we live in Northern California now. Some parts were kept in English so that everyone felt included. We wanted it to be more than just about us and just the day. We wanted a relaxed and cozy weekend for all of our family and friends to enjoy. On the wedding day, having our 78-year-old grandma, who flew in from Kazakhstan, give a blessing was really important to us.

Choosing a Venue That Aligned with Their Vision

It’s important to think the theme through. It helps direct the wedding and guide all your decisions moving forward. For us, the cozy cabin and vintage theme really came together beautifully in the end. The venue plays a large part in that (it sure did for us), so make sure you look at many venues and find one that fits the vision and vibe you are trying to create. Thanks in large part to our amazing planners, our whole event flowed seamlessly, and we never felt rushed or stressed. We were able to do it all and enjoy every moment of the day. That is what we are most proud of.

Finding the Perfect Venue by Trusting the Experts

We looked at so many venues. We toured locations with Taryn from TSWED in Maui, Oahu, and Napa, CA. But we couldn’t find the right fit. Finally, our wedding planner pitched us the Timber Cove Resort, which was different from the vibe we were initially looking for. However, they insisted that Timber Cove had an aesthetic that matched our personality as a couple. When we got to the site, we couldn’t believe it. It was the perfect fit for us!

Congratulations to Dana and Arlan on their cozy Timber Cove Resort wedding filled with stunning Pacific Ocean views. And many thanks to Sav and Cam for capturing every special detail that made this celebration truly exceptional.

This celebration is proof not to underestimate the power of your venue. Often, the backdrop of a wedding sets the whole vibe. How Much Does It Actually Cost to Be a Bridesmaid in 2024?

The role of a bridesmaid is not just an honor bestowed upon close friends and family. It’s also a commitment that involves time, effort, and, yes, money. In recent years, the costs associated with weddings have been slowly rising, and the expectations of bridesmaids have grown with them. As we make our way into 2024, being a bridesmaid is more than just showing up on the wedding day with a smile—it can be a significant financial burden. That’s why we’re breaking down the three major expenses bridesmaids can expect–the bridesmaid dress, pre-wedding events, and the wedding day itself.

How Much Does it Cost to Be a Bridesmaid in 2024?

The Bridesmaid Dress

One of the most important aspects of being a bridesmaid is the dress. According to The Knot, in 2022, the average cost of a bridesmaid dress was approximately $200. However, Zola reports that the average is about $150. It’s pretty obvious that the price of a bridesmaid dress isn’t always set in stone and truly can vary depending on the soon-to-be newlywed’s personal taste and the overall formality of the wedding.

In more casual or budget-conscious weddings, you may have the option to choose less expensive dresses or wear a dress of your choice in a specific color. On the other hand, in more formal or high-end weddings, bridesmaids may be required to purchase designer dresses that can cost upwards of $500.

Aside from the dress itself, there are other associated costs, such as alterations. Depending on the required alterations, this could add another $50 to $100 to the total cost.

Pre-Wedding Events

The responsibilities of a bridesmaid extend beyond the wedding day. Bridesmaids are typically expected to contribute to and attend several pre-wedding events, including the bridal shower and the bachelorette party.

Unfortunately, pre-wedding events can vary in cost dramatically. For example, bridesmaids can typically expect to spend at least $100 on the bridal shower. This cost accounts for a gift and contributions to food and decorations. Of course, this is entirely dependent on who’s hosting the party. In many instances, it’s the maid of honor or a family member. However, some bridesmaids work together to make the newlywed’s dream come true.

Meanwhile, the bachelorette party can cost anywhere from $200 to $1000, which fluctuates depending on location, activities, and whether or not it includes travel and accommodations. To help you get a better idea of what to expect, The Knot found that in 2023, the average cost of a 1-2 day bachelorette party is $1,300 a person. Three to four day parties get up to $1,650.

The Wedding Day

While the wedding day is a day to remember, it can also be expensive for bridesmaids. If they’re expected to handle the cost of their own hair and makeup, it can range anywhere from $50 to $150. In addition to beauty, bridesmaids may also be expected to contribute towards a gift. This could add another $50 to $100.

Lastly, there’s the cost of attending the wedding itself. If it’s a destination wedding or if the bridesmaid lives out of town, travel and accommodation costs can significantly increase the total cost. Depending on the location and duration of stay, these costs can add hundreds or even thousands of dollars to the total cost.

Being a bridesmaid in 2024 is costly—potentially ranging from $600 to over $2000. While it’s certainly an honor to be asked to be a part of a friend’s or family member’s wedding, it’s important for bridesmaids to be aware of the potential costs involved. If reading this has you stressed out about being in a wedding party, don’t fret. We’ve rounded up seven ways to help bridesmaids save money.
