This Chic Sicilian Destination Wedding Could Easily Pass for a Fashion Editorial

February 16, 2026 | justine

When Olivia and Micah started planning their Sicilian destination wedding, they weren’t trying to recreate anything they’d seen before. What they wanted was simple but intentional: something timeless, relaxed, and deeply connected to place. Set at the historic seaside Tonnara di Scopello, their multi-day celebration blended classic style, meaningful details, and a guest-first mindset that made the entire weekend feel more like a shared vacation than a traditional wedding.

Their story began unexpectedly. Olivia was scrolling Instagram when a friend posted a photo of Micah and it caught her eye. A few weeks later, the two met at a birthday party, and on June 4, 2019, went on their first date at Justine’s Brasserie in Austin, Texas. Over dinner, they talked about Micah’s years living in New York and Hawaii, Olivia’s love of “too much travel and hobbies,” and their shared outlook on life. “We bonded over a zest for life and new experiences,” Olivia shared, along with the values that mattered most to both of them: family, friendships, and building a meaningful future together.

That same balance of fun and foundation carried through every part of their stunningly chic wedding weekend in Sicily.

What We Love About This Sicilian Destination Wedding

  • A historic seaside venue styled around its natural character
  • A multi-day format that gave guests time to truly relax
  • A music-forward celebration with live bands for every event
  • Fashion that felt editorial but deeply personal
  • Intentional private moments built into a lively reception

Building a Wedding Timeline That Doesn’t Feel Rushed

From the very beginning, Olivia and Micah knew they wanted more than a single-day gathering. “We wanted a destination wedding because of the guest experience we wanted to create,” Olivia said. “A vacation, ample time together, and space to settle in instead of just being at a venue for a few hours.” They booked Tonnara for four days so guests could enjoy the property at their own pace—swimming in the sea, reading with an Aperol spritz at the café, or simply soaking in the scenery. On the wedding day itself, they extended cocktail hour and dinner, shortened speeches and formal dances, and structured the schedule around shared time. “We focused our time together on, well, time together,” Olivia added. To bring everything together, they worked closely with Amuri – Events & Wedding Planner. “Barbara understood our vision and narrative from the beginning,” Olivia said. “We leaned on her to help translate that vision into reality and bring us the right vendors.”

Planning Breaks Without Disrupting the Flow

Instead of doing a first look, Micah surprised Olivia mid-dinner by arranging a private champagne moment overlooking the courtyard. “Weddings are such a whirlwind,” Olivia shared. “It’s hard to grasp every moment and commit it to memory.” That short break gave them space to breathe, reconnect, and fully take in what was happening. “This sweet, intimate moment for just the two of us felt so special,” and became one of their favorite memories of the day.

Working With Existing Architecture Instead of Against It

Instead of reshaping the venue to fit current wedding trends, Olivia and Micah chose to let the location guide their design choices. “We share a love of timeless, curated things,” Olivia explained. “Rather than transform Tonnara to us, we decided to match our style to it and focus on timeless classics with small modern refinements.” They pulled colors directly from the surrounding buildings and coastline, weaving in Sicilian culture through vintage painted carts used for seating arrangements and cake displays, as well as traditional street food during cocktail hour. To keep things feeling current, they layered in modern touches like cascading anthurium bouquets and contemporary floral styling. “The question we kept coming back to was how to balance timeless and classic with innovative and original,” Olivia shared—and that balance became the visual thread tying everything together.

Treating Music as the Backbone of the Weekend

Music wasn’t just a background element, it shaped the energy of the entire celebration. Micah took the lead on researching performers and curating each event’s sound. “Micah loves music and knows how to throw an incredible party,” Olivia shared. The weekend featured a soul band for the welcome party, a quartet for the ceremony, a walking Sicilian band during cocktail hour, a nine-piece live band at the reception, and even a vinyl-spinning DJ from Rome who kept guests dancing until 3 a.m. Coordinating performers from different regions added complexity, but the payoff was worth it. “The music was a hit,” Olivia said, and it gave every part of the weekend its own personality.

Adding Personality to the Ceremony Script

One of the most meaningful ceremony details was having their mutual friend officiate, the same friend who introduced them years earlier and took the original photo of Micah that caught Olivia’s attention. They also wanted the ceremony to reflect their personalities. “We love to laugh and don’t take life too seriously,” Olivia said. Their officiant leaned into that energy by playfully roasting them throughout the ceremony while still weaving in heartfelt moments. The laughter immediately relaxed the crowd and set the tone for a joyful, lighthearted evening.

Fashion Choices That Felt Editorial Without Feeling Costumey

Fashion was one of the most playful parts of planning. “We wanted black tie, classic, and cohesive with the venue, but something unique to us,” Olivia shared. Micah embraced timeless tailoring with a Ralph Lauren Purple Label tux featuring a cream Gregory Barathea Italian linen dinner jacket and black tuxedo trousers. He paired it with a custom Proper Cloth Sea Island white shirt, Tom Ford silk bow tie and cummerbund, and Ace Marks patent wholecut Oxfords. His accessories reflected his love for vintage details, including a 1930s Omega gold watch, Moscot sunglasses, Dolan Bullock vintage onyx cuff links, and a custom-made pearl and gold brooch worn in place of a boutonniere for both himself and his Best Man. “That was something I hadn’t really seen before,” Olivia noted.

Olivia’s look balanced softness, sentiment, and subtle storytelling. She wore the Gabrielle Gown by Helsa Studio as her “something new,” drawn to its clean modern lines and delicate nod to the 1950s with a bow at the back. Her accessories carried deep personal meaning. Her vintage Chanel baroque-style earrings—her “something old”—came from Marla Hurley, a longtime family friend and owner of a luxury consignment boutique in Round Top, Texas. “I’ve known Marla since I was 10,” Olivia shared. “She’s a style icon with the biggest heart and a huge focus on philanthropy.”

Her gold cuff, gifted by her grandmother and originally purchased by her grandfather in the 1970s, became her “something borrowed,” while her pale blue bow in the bouquet completed her “something blue.” For shoes, she kept things delicate and understated with the Winnie Peep Toe heels from Reformation, wanting something that complemented rather than competed with the dress.

Her beauty look followed the same philosophy of quiet intention. “I kept it simple to the point of boring—a low, slicked-back bun with a big black bow,” she said. The final result felt polished, personal, and effortlessly editorial without feeling overdone.

Turning Cocktail Hour Into a Cultural Experience

Cocktail hour became another opportunity to highlight Sicily and the venue’s history. Tonnara began as a tuna fishery in the 13th century, and Olivia and Micah wanted guests to feel that heritage. They set up live food stations by the ocean with freshly prepared calamari, sashimi, and local seafood. “We wanted to create warmth and coziness by having food prepared in front of guests,” Olivia shared. “Food is important in bringing people together—and how people experience your love through food was a central theme for us.”

Spending on What Guests Would Feel and Remember

When it came to budgeting, Olivia and Micah focused on experience first. “We had a general budget in mind, but we gave ourselves a small buffer so we didn’t have to sacrifice something important to either of us,” Olivia explained. Their largest investments were the venue and music. “Those two were the most crucial because they set the tone for how guests feel when they’re at the events,” she said. Photography was another priority. “It was so important to memorialize this for ourselves too.” By concentrating on atmosphere and long-term memories, they avoided getting caught up in details that were secondary.

Adding a Surprise Element to the Reception Meal

One of the most unforgettable moments came during dinner service. After choosing swordfish as the entrée, Olivia noticed chefs gathering excitedly in the courtyard. Moments later, a nine-foot fresh swordfish was brought out, caught that same day just offshore. Guests had even seen it being pulled from the water earlier. The chefs invited Micah to make the first cut before preparing and grilling it on-site. “It just fit so nicely into this relaxed, ocean-to-us vibe we wanted,” Olivia said. The experience turned dinner into a shared moment instead of just another course.

Practical Advice From Planning Abroad

Looking back, Olivia’s most practical advice is simple: convert your cash ahead of time. “Get your cash in the currency you need,” she laughed, recalling a last-minute scramble to exchange dollars into euros before the welcome party. Her bigger takeaway, though, is about presence. “Take a moment for yourselves,” she shared. “You’re not being a bad host. That quiet courtyard moment helped me slow down and really commit things to memory.”

A Richly Romantic Red Wedding Editorial Set in Italy

February 14, 2026 | justine

Deep red tones, candlelight, and historic architecture come together in this romantic wedding editorial set in Italy. Instead of soft pastels and airy neutrals, the creative direction focused on wine, burgundy, and grape hues to create a mood that feels confident, expressive, and modern.

Set at Villa Bossi near the lake, the concept was intentionally bold. “The idea was rooted in romance, but with a contemporary edge,” Catia Soares Photography shared. “We wanted to move away from predictable softness and explore a richer, more daring version of romantic design.”

What made this project especially meaningful was the team behind it. With half of the vendors traveling from Portugal and the rest based in Italy, this styled shoot became a true collaborative effort.

What We Love About This Romantic Wedding Inspiration:

  • A bold red color palette that feels modern and intentional
  • Candlelight and glass details that add depth without overpowering the design
  • Full, organic florals that bring movement to the tablescape
  • A historic villa setting that grounds the bold styling
  • International collaboration that shaped the final look

Using Bold Color Without Overwhelming Your Design

Color played a major role in shaping the overall feel of the shoot. Deep reds and burgundy tones created warmth and contrast, while candlelight softened the space and added dimension. Glass elements helped reflect light and prevent the palette from feeling too heavy.

Florals were designed to feel natural and loose rather than tightly structured. “We wanted the flowers to feel abundant and organic,” Catia explained, “so the overall look felt sensual, expressive, and full of life.”

For couples, this approach shows how bold color choices, layered textiles, and thoughtful lighting can quickly transform a space without needing overly complicated setups.

Matching the Design Style to the Right Location

Villa Bossi was chosen for both its lakeside location and its architectural character. “The surrounding landscape adds a quiet sense of calm,” Catia shared, “which helped balance the richness of the color palette.”

Inside the villa, aged walls, historic details, and classic interiors influenced the styling and photography. These elements allowed the editorial to feel grounded in the space while still supporting a more dramatic design direction.

Why Team Chemistry Matters in Wedding Planning

This project began with a personal goal: photographing in Italy while building meaningful partnerships with international vendors. With support from Oh Weddings in Portugal, the idea became a shared creative project between Portuguese and Italian teams.

“Seeing the vision come together through a cross-cultural collaboration was the most rewarding part. The creative exchange brought unexpected depth and character to the final result.”

Instead of following a rigid plan, the team relied on open communication and flexibility, allowing the editorial to evolve naturally throughout the process.

Making Smart Adjustments When Plans Change

Not everything went according to plan on shoot day. After setting up the original table design, the team realized the proportions didn’t work within the space.

“We had to dismantle everything and start again from scratch,” Catia explained. “It wasn’t an easy decision, especially with everyone traveling back to Portugal the same day, but that shared commitment made the final result stronger.”

Making that adjustment ensured the styling matched the original vision and worked better with the venue layout.

Practical Styling Advice for Couples Who Want Impact

For couples inspired by this romantic wedding editorial, the biggest takeaway is not to play it too safe. “Don’t be afraid to make bold choices, especially with color and texture,” Catia advised. “Trust your creative team, stay open to adaptation, and remember that atmosphere is built through layered details rather than perfection.”

Fall Wedding at Cavallo Point Lodge with a Golden Gate Bridge Cameo

February 12, 2026 | justine

When Heewon and Jimmy began planning their fall wedding at Cavallo Point Lodge, they weren’t just looking for a scenic backdrop. They wanted a setting that felt personal, reflected their life in San Francisco, and gave their traveling guests a true sense of place—bonus points for a Golden Gate Bridge cameo.

Their story started thanks to mutual friends playing matchmaker. “After we met, we found out we literally lived three blocks away from each other in San Francisco,” Heewon shared. After their first date, she already felt something shift. “I immediately knew I liked this person and wanted to get to know him better.” Jimmy described his realization as slower but steady. “The more we talked and spent time together, the more I saw the compatibility. Heewon’s confidence in us also inspired my own confidence.”

That mix of certainty and ease became the foundation for a wedding day that felt thoughtful without being overly formal, artistic without being rigid, and lively from start to finish.

What We Love About This Cavallo Point Lodge Wedding:

  • A Caravaggio-inspired color palette featuring fruit, florals, and layered fall textures
  • A first look in front of Cavallo’s historic Frank House
  • Golden hour portraits with the Golden Gate Bridge in view
  • An LED dance floor that quickly turned into a playground and party hub
  • A last-song moment that turned into a full encore celebration

Picking a Location That Doubles as an Experience

With friends and family flying in from the East Coast and Korea, Heewon and Jimmy wanted their venue to feel like a destination in itself. After touring several spaces, Cavallo Point Lodge stood out immediately. The sweeping views, proximity to San Francisco, and connection to Marin—where they spend weekends cycling—made it an easy decision.

Once the venue was locked in, the rest of their planning began to take shape around the natural landscape rather than trying to compete with it.

Prioritizing Photography and Guest Experience Early

Photography and food topped their priority list from the beginning. Heewon had long admired Junebug vendor Vivian Chen’s work after seeing it featured years ago. “I told myself that if I ever planned a wedding, I’d want this photographer,” she said. When they realized Vivian was Bay Area–based, it felt like the timing lined up perfectly.

They loved how her images captured not only the celebration, but also the surrounding scenery. “We wanted her to help us capture the natural beauty of the area in and beyond Cavallo Point Lodge.”

As plans grew more complex, they brought on planner Katie Pehrson of 2 the 9s Events to manage logistics and production. That decision allowed them to stay present on the day itself. “She and her team were running the show all day until the very end of the night so we could focus on us and the party,” they shared.

Designing With Art References Instead of Trends

Rather than starting with a trend board, Heewon turned to art for inspiration. Caravaggio’s “Boy with Fruit Basket” became an unexpected design reference, influencing the color story and the use of fruit and floral elements throughout the decor.

Working with floral designer Marissa Zoetewey of The Wild Fleur Co., they focused on enhancing the venue’s natural beauty instead of overpowering it. “Heewon had a vision but didn’t have the technical knowledge on florals to bring it to life.” Marissa helped translate those ideas into arrangements rich in texture and seasonal detail.

One standout moment came when Heewon finally saw the cake florals in person. It ended up being her favorite design detail of the entire day.

Blending Cultural Traditions Into the Ceremony

The ceremony itself centered on two meaningful elements: personal vows and family traditions. Heewon and Jimmy wrote their vows separately without sharing drafts beforehand. “Somehow they played off each other and synchronized as if they were a conversation,” they said.

They also included a traditional Korean bow to their parents, a gesture of gratitude and respect that acknowledged both families and marked the start of their new chapter together.

Creating a Cohesive Look Without Going Overly Formal

Heewon described her bridal style as “classic but modern.” After traveling to Los Angeles to try on gowns, she found her dress at Vivienne Westwood. “When I saw myself in the mirror for the first time, it was an obvious decision.”

She followed a Korean skincare routine leading up to the wedding and worked with Jessica of The Pure Makeup to keep her look natural. “I was terrified makeup was going to transform me into someone unrecognizable, but she really understood what I wanted.”

Jimmy skipped the tux in favor of a dark grey three-piece suit that felt more appropriate for the outdoor setting at Cavallo Point Lodge. Groomsmen wore light grey suits for contrast, while bridesmaids chose cornflower blue lace dresses selected by the matrons of honor.

Handling Last-Minute Logistics Without the Stress Spiral

The day before the wedding came with a reality check. Packing and transporting materials took longer than expected, and the couple arrived late and exhausted at Cavallo Point Lodge. Still, they found a silver lining with a quiet dinner on-site that gave them space to reset and mentally prepare for the weekend.

Earlier gatherings helped set the tone, including a family banquet dinner that brought both families together for the first time, welcome drinks with friends near Union Square, and a rehearsal brunch hosted by their moms.

Creating Breathing Room Before the Reception Starts

One of the most emotional moments happened during their first look in front of the Frank House. “Heewon will always remember the way Jimmy looked at her when he turned around to see her in her dress for the first time.”

Later, during cocktail hour, they slipped away for golden hour portraits while a second shooter captured guest moments. As the ballroom filled, Heewon and Jimmy sat outside together, taking in a brief pause before their grand entrance and the reception ahead.

When the Dance Floor Becomes the Main Event

As planning progressed, lighting, music, and atmosphere became major priorities. Allowing kids at the reception turned out to be a highlight. “When the child guests saw the LED dance floor, they all piled onto it and were rolling around and playing on it all evening,” the couple said.

Their final song, “Opus” by Eric Prydz, carried personal meaning—it played during Jimmy’s New Year’s Eve proposal. When DJ Shazam dropped the track, the dance floor instantly filled. Afterward, guests chanted for another song, leading to a surprise encore of “One More Time” by Daft Punk that kept the energy going.

What They’d Do Again (and What They’d Skip)

Jimmy’s biggest takeaway surprised him. “I didn’t know our wedding would be so much fun. I wish I had invited more people,” he said. He also encouraged couples to treat wedding planning as a shared project that reflects both partners.

Heewon added, “The day goes so fast. Don’t freak out if things run behind schedule.” She even skipped her planned second reception dress so she could stay on the dance floor longer.

Both agreed that involving friends made the weekend more meaningful—from a close friend officiating, to custom watercolor invitations, to guest DJs and impromptu content creation. Those shared contributions turned their celebration at Cavallo Point Lodge into something that felt deeply personal and genuinely fun, not just visually beautiful.
