Turning a Destination Wedding Into a Three-Day Celebration

Carolina and Taylor knew many of their guests would be visiting Sicily for the first time, which shaped how they planned their Sicily destination wedding. Instead of focusing on one main event, they organized several gatherings across the weekend so everyone could settle into the setting and celebrate together.

It all began in Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage town known for its striking baroque architecture. Guests gathered at I Crociferi for a welcome celebration filled with Sicilian street food and lively conversation as everyone settled into the rhythm of the weekend.

The wedding day itself took place at Dimora delle Balze, a historic estate surrounded by olive groves and rolling countryside. The festivities wrapped up with a relaxed beach day at Baiamuri Beach Club, where guests swam, lounged, and enjoyed the slower pace of Sicilian coastal life.

“Our hope was simple,” Carolina shared. “We didn’t just want guests to remember our wedding. We wanted them to remember how it felt.”

Incorporating Meaningful Details Throughout the Wedding

Some of the most meaningful moments of the weekend came from the quieter details throughout the celebration.

Just before the ceremony, Taylor surprised Carolina with a handwritten letter and a gift she had long admired: a Loro Piana bag. The gesture became one of the most emotional moments of the day.

Taylor also incorporated custom elements into his look, including their wedding monogram stitched inside his tuxedo and engraved on his cufflinks.

The couple partnered with The Bridezilla Co. to create a custom stationery suite that included save-the-dates, invitations, and a wedding website featuring an embossed illustration of the venue. Even their wedding fragrances from Creed were engraved with their wedding date.

Each element worked together to tell the story of their relationship in subtle, thoughtful ways.

Including Family in Meaningful Ceremony Moments

Carolina and Taylor decided against a first look so that their first glimpse of each other would happen during the ceremony.

“We skipped the first look to savor one singular, unfiltered moment: seeing each other as I walked down the aisle,” Carolina said. “Months of planning and anticipation disappeared in an instant.”

A close friend officiated the ceremony and spent months learning about their relationship. Instead of traditional readings, the couple included passages from poems and letters they had written to each other over the years.

One of the most emotional moments came when Carolina’s nieces recited parts of the vows they had memorized.

“Hearing their sweet voices speak our words brought laughter, happy tears, and a profound sense of family love threaded through every syllable,” she said.

Encouraging Guests to Express Personal Style Through Fashion

Carolina and Taylor treated fashion as another way to express personality throughout their wedding weekend. Instead of formal wedding parties, they encouraged guests to embrace their own sense of style.

“Our dress code was simple: Dress to impress—this will be a fashion show,” Carolina said.

For the welcome party, Carolina wore a seashell-adorned Cult Gaia dress inspired by the ornate beauty of Noto, paired with white Chanel heels. Taylor kept things relaxed in an ivory linen Ralph Lauren suit and Tod’s loafers.

On the wedding day, Carolina wore a custom SEPT gown with a French lace veil, Aquazzura heels, and pearl-and-diamond earrings gifted by her mother. Later in the evening, she changed into a sleek Helsa dress for the first dance before finishing the night in a lace SAU LEE mini designed for dancing.

Taylor continued the subtle Italian fashion thread with an Armani tuxedo and Ferragamo shoes.

Planning a Reception That Moves Naturally From Dinner to Dancing

Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the courtyard for drinks and Sicilian music performed by the band Mizzica Mizzica. The atmosphere quickly shifted from relaxed to celebratory when a traditional Italian dance circle began forming.

Guests laughed, clapped, and joined in, creating an instant sense of connection before the reception even started.

As dinner began, the band opened with Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” and the dance floor filled almost immediately. Candlelight flickered against the stone walls while the chandeliers overhead glowed warmly.

Friends and family danced well into the night, turning the historic courtyard into an open-air party beneath the Sicilian sky.

Using Historic Architecture as the Foundation for Wedding Design

Rather than competing with the venue, Carolina and Taylor designed their wedding around the natural character of Dimora delle Balze. The courtyard’s textured stone walls and open sky created a setting that already felt cinematic.

Crystal chandeliers were suspended above the dining tables, introducing a hint of glamour against the rustic architecture. Long family-style tables encouraged conversation while soft white linens kept the look light and balanced.

The color palette leaned into deep burgundy and wine tones, softened with dusty blush, ivory, and natural greenery. The deep hues stood out against the pale stone courtyard, giving the tablescape a warm, romantic richness.

To nod to the region’s culture, the couple incorporated Sicilian tambourines throughout the decor. The playful details added movement, sound, and a sense of place to the celebration.

Working With a Local Planner Who Knows the Region

Planning a Sicily destination wedding from another country comes with its challenges, which is why Carolina and Taylor leaned on the expertise of Junebug vendor Amuri Events & Wedding Planner.

Carolina admits that handing over control wasn’t easy at first. “Initially I didn’t trust her, as I am a project manager myself, therefore I like to have control over everything and everyone,” she said. “But step by step, when I finally let this part go and give her full trust, she brought to life the best day of my life.”

Their planner helped source trusted local vendors, coordinate logistics across multiple locations, and shape a cohesive design that honored the character of the venue.

“The food was excellent, the location was stunning, and the overall design and coordination across the different venues were a dream come true,” Carolina said.

The Value of Working With Vendors Who Know the Destination

Looking back, Carolina says the biggest lesson from planning their Sicily destination wedding was learning to trust the people who know the destination best.

Organising a wedding, and especially a destination wedding, is not easy when you don’t know the market and are not locally based,” she said. “Having and fully trusting an expert local vendor like Barbara from Amuri was essential.”

Discover Casa Velas: The Ultimate Adults-Only, All-Inclusive Luxury Escape in Puerto Vallarta

March 15, 2026 | marissa

Whether you’re dreaming of a romantic destination wedding, an intimate honeymoon, or a rejuvenating getaway with your partner, Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta offers something increasingly rare in the world of luxury travel: an all-inclusive experience that actually feels luxurious. Adults-only, boutique in scale, and deeply intentional in its design, this is a retreat built for couples who want sophistication and tranquility in equal measure. It’s not just a beautiful place to stay, but a beautiful way to be together.

Tucked away on Mexico’s Pacific Riviera, Casa Velas creates an atmosphere of calm refinement where every detail is crafted to enhance comfort and connection. The colonial hacienda-style architecture sets the tone from the moment you arrive—koi ponds wind through lush tropical gardens, al-fresco terraces invite long, unhurried evenings, and colonnaded walkways frame a setting that feels deeply romantic at every turn. For destination weddings especially, this is a visual differentiator: Casa Velas offers a setting, not just a venue.

A New Standard for All-Inclusive

Casa Velas holds both AAA Four Diamond and Forbes Four Star ratings—third-party recognition that most all-inclusives simply don’t have, and a signal that this isn’t the buffet-and-wristband version of the concept. Here, the all-inclusive experience is reimagined entirely. It’s not just about having meals and drinks included, it’s about a seamless, indulgent stay where premium dining, handcrafted cocktails, in-suite amenities, and curated experiences are all woven into the rhythm of your days.

From gourmet cuisine served at Emiliano Restaurant to refreshing drinks by the pool, the pace is relaxed yet elevated. Casa Velas is perfect for couples who want to unwind completely without sacrificing quality. Every element of the stay has been considered so that you don’t have to think about anything except each other.

Boutique Intimacy Meets Destination Romance

With only 80 suites, Casa Velas offers something that larger resorts simply can’t replicate: the feeling of being somewhere exclusive rather than just expensive. There are no long lines, no jostling for sunbeds, no sense of being one of hundreds of guests moving through the same experience. Instead, there’s a genuine intimacy that makes a celebration or getaway feel personal from start to finish.

The versatility of the spaces adds to that sense of possibility. Lush gardens and serene pool areas with chic cabanas offer romantic settings for morning yoga, sunset drinks, or a leisurely afternoon swim. Their Táu Beach Club extends the experience all the way to the shore. The boutique spa provides couples with moments of pure restoration, while golf enthusiasts can take advantage of nearby championship courses framed by tropical scenery. Whatever pace you’re after—active or unhurried, social or secluded—Casa Velas holds space for it.

For couples planning a destination wedding, the hacienda’s architecture, gardens, and al-fresco terraces aren’t just beautiful, they’re the kind of deeply romantic backdrop that makes wedding photos feel timeless. And for those celebrating an elopement or intimate gathering, the scale of the property means your event never competes with anyone else’s.

The Details Make All the Difference

What makes Casa Velas especially compelling for honeymooners is its focus on intentional connection through plentiful, thoughtful details. Every suite includes a personal concierge, a welcome pour of mezcal, a pillow menu, and 24-hour suite service. These aren’t grand gestures so much as quiet signals that someone has genuinely thought about what would make your stay feel curated and special rather than transactional. For honeymooners, those touches matter enormously—they’re the things you’ll remember long after your stay is over.

The adults-only atmosphere reinforces all of it, creating an environment where quality time isn’t something you carve out between distractions, but the crux of every day. Whether you’re planning a small wedding celebration by the shore or seeking a destination to mark the beginning of a marriage, Casa Velas strikes that rare balance between elevated service and impeccable atmosphere.

Casa Velas is more than an all-inclusive resort. It’s an adults-only oasis where every experience, from dining to downtime, reflects a thoughtful commitment to comfort and elegance. For couples seeking a Puerto Vallarta romantic getaway or wedding venue with real substance behind the luxury, it’s an easy and wholehearted recommendation from our Junebug team.

This Couple Knew They Wanted to Elope Abroad—and Italy’s Aosta Valley Delivered

March 14, 2026 | justine

Some couples dream of a packed dance floor and a long guest list. MK and Shane always pictured something quieter: mountain air, sweeping views, and a day that felt completely their own. That vision led them straight to the Aosta Valley, where jagged peaks and alpine meadows created the most breathtaking backdrop for their vows.

Their love story started thanks to a persistent mutual friend. “It’s a miracle,” MK said. “My friend Amanda had been trying (and failing) to find me a love match for years.” On a visit home from New York City, Amanda introduced her to Shane, a warm and genuinely kind guy she’d met at a tennis social. During their first meet-up, they talked for hours, barely noticing anyone else in the room.

At the end of the night, Shane casually asked for MK’s number so he could “hit you up for recommendations when I’m in New York for the US Open.” The tournament was three months away. MK wasn’t about to wait that long. The next day, on the hottest day in June, she texted him to grab a drink before flying back to New York. He canceled his tennis match to see her one more time. Two weeks later, she flew back to Kansas City. “We never once wanted to be far from each other,” MK shared. “We were lucky that we share so many of the same interests, habits, and quirks.”

They both love to travel. They both love the mountains. He proposed on top of one. Planning a mountain elopement didn’t feel bold or unexpected. It simply felt right.

What We Love About This Aosta Valley Wedding:

  • An intimate elopement set against the dramatic peaks of the Aosta Valley
  • A mountaintop vow exchange at the foot of Mont Blanc
  • Heirloom details, including an embroidered handkerchief and handmade pocket square
  • A spontaneous cable car moment with cheering schoolchildren
  • A backyard celebration back home that kept the joy going

Deciding Between a Traditional Wedding and an Elopement

MK and Shane never envisioned a traditional wedding. “We always knew we wanted to exchange our vows abroad,” MK explained. For a brief moment, they considered inviting family and close friends, but coordinating schedules and travel quickly became overwhelming.

Instead of forcing something complicated, they chose intimacy. The mountains gave them the natural, romantic setting they craved without the pressure of hosting a large event. The Aosta Valley offered exactly what they wanted: serenity, scale, and space to focus on each other.

Finding Photographers Who Know the Landscape

If there was one priority, it was photography. “Aside from my husband, the most important part of a wedding for me is the pictures,” MK said. “They preserve a moment in time.”

She discovered Benni Carol Photography while scrolling Reddit and was immediately drawn to their romantic, natural-light style. After a few Zoom calls, the photographers suggested Courmayeur in the Valle d’Aosta region, nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc. They knew the terrain intimately and even scouted the perfect location for the vow exchange.

That local knowledge made all the difference. When nonstop rain forced them to push their original wedding date back by two days, their photographers were calm and prepared. They had already set expectations that mountain weather can be unpredictable. Instead of stressing, MK and Shane spent the extra day hiking with them, revisiting the kind of adventure that defined their relationship from the beginning.

Dressing for a Mountain Elopement

MK’s gown, Briar by Jenny Yoo, struck the perfect balance between modern and timeless. The sleeves softly framed her shoulders, and the cathedral-length train added just enough drama against the alpine backdrop. She wore pearl drop earrings and carried her great-grandmother’s embroidered handkerchief wrapped around her bouquet.

Shane kept things effortless in a gray Boss suit he already owned, paired with a crisp white Eton shirt and brown leather oxfords. Skipping the tie kept the look relaxed and true to him.

MK chose to do her own makeup to feel like herself. After six months of skin prep with her esthetician, she felt confident and natural. Two weeks before the wedding, she decided to book a local salon for soft waves, removing one more layer of pressure from the day.

Making the Most of Unplanned Wedding Highlights

One of the most unforgettable moments happened on the Skyway cable car up to Mont Blanc. The station was packed with tourists. MK was the only one in a wedding dress. A group of schoolchildren on a field trip started clapping when they realized they were seeing a bride and groom. Strangers congratulated them, adding a spontaneous layer of celebration they never planned.

After their ceremony, they popped champagne and shared a picnic with a charcuterie board. Shane customized a small journal for their handwritten vows, creating a keepsake they will always treasure.

Back home, friends hosted a backyard celebration that became its own highlight. During an impromptu dance to “Let’s Stay Together,” sung by a local musician, MK and Shane thought they were sharing a quiet moment. When they realized everyone was watching, they were a little embarrassed, but it made the memory even sweeter.

Making Smart Financial Choices for an Elopement Abroad

Instead of spreading their budget across dozens of line items, they focused on what mattered: travel, photography, and a meaningful experience. They used airline points to upgrade their flight and accepted generous gifts from family and MK’s workplace that helped cover their hotel, dress, and wedding band.

By stripping away the extras, they were able to invest in the experience of getting married in the Aosta Valley without financial strain overshadowing the celebration.

Managing Expectations When Planning From Afar

“Stay true to yourselves and trust your instincts,” MK said. “It is easy to get swept up in everyone else’s opinions, but your day should feel like you.”

She also recommends not procrastinating. Handling tasks early prevents unnecessary stress. And during wedding week, go with the flow. The weather might shift. Plans might adjust. The day will move quickly, so be present.

They didn’t need a ballroom or a timeline packed with events. Just mountains, each other, and space to be present. And for them, that was more than enough.
