Gorgeous And Glamorous Wonderland In Uluwatu Wedding

July 10, 2021 | riley

You know when it’s a wedding planner’s turn to plan their own wedding, it’s going to be good. So you can bet that Maggy and Filippo’s Wonderland in Uluwatu wedding was the epitome of beauty. In these tropical “I do’s“ –from the seaside ceremony with pampas grass and florals from Classy Decor ID to a laidback reception under the stars—there was no detail untouched.

And while we could go on and on about how chic this Bali lovefest was, we figured we’d let their photographer Selene of ManiSol Weddings do all the talking!

Selene of ManiSol Weddings On The Bali Destination Wedding

Maggy is a wedding planner, and she designed the whole day herself. She even designed her wedding dress and all the dresses for the wedding party–which were then sewn by her sister Beatrice. They had an ocean-front ceremony and an informal picnic-style reception. It was actually a three-part wedding–including this first event in Bali, a reception in Jakarta where the couple lives, and the third wedding in Modena, Italy.

The couple got ready in Villa Lalaland, where they had the first look as well. An Indonesian tradition has the bride and groom exchange the boutonniere and bouquet during the first look, and I found it super sweet! After portraits at the villa, we headed to the ceremony. The ceremony was held in English, Italian, and Indonesian, and it was really beautiful and heartfelt! I loved the picnic reception as well. It was such a perfect idea for that venue. The wedding band sang throughout the reception, and the bride sang a song as well (for all three weddings). It was a perfect mix of tropical and chic!

A Handmade Wedding Dress

I designed my entire wedding outfit from scratch, including buying the fabric and picking the material. I worked closely with my sister, who is a fashion designer, to put every single floral detail on the gown. Then, with the help of my sister’s dedicated seamstress team, we managed to finalize the exact dream dress and shoes that I wanted.

Why A Wonderland In Uluwatu Wedding

I came across a few places in the area I liked and contacted them one by one to get an idea of their prices. After sorting them out based on the wedding budget, we managed to narrow it down to three options. We then flew to Bali to visit those venues–which I think is very important. Funny enough, when we visited our venue, it was still under construction, so we were basically their first client. But I saw the potential right away and with a good bargain, we went for it.

Putting Together The Wedding Budget

The first step I recommend when putting together a wedding budget would be doing a little research on the three most significant costs for the wedding–venue, catering, and decor. I knew exactly what I wanted and finding out the estimated prices for these was how I started. From there, I discussed it with Filippo and we set a budget. We also put aside a good 15-20% for unexpected expenses. Remember that the number of guests will determine your budget, so a good tip for other couples out there would be if you don’t want to spend too much or have a tight budget consider an intimate wedding with just a few close families and friends.

Minimalist Moroccan Elopement

July 9, 2021 | riley

When it came time to plan their wedding, Nastya and Rory knew that they wanted a destination elopement that acted as a honeymoon and wedding all in one. After spending countless hours scrolling through Pinterest, the couple noticed they were always drawn to Marrakech, which led them to host their own minimalist Moroccan elopement

With the help of planners from Riad Al Loune, the magical, laidback elopement was complete with a ceremony in the heart of the desert, portraits by One Heart Experience in the marketplace, and a sunset camel ride to end the day.

Their Videographer’s Take On The Big Day

Junebug member A Cinema of Poetry accompanied them as their videographer for the day, and this is what he had to say regarding intimate “I do’s.”

This is the story of a mixed couple that met through friends, but they realized that they were meant to be together a year later. They traveled from Portugal and exchanged vows of love in a symbolic elopement ceremony in the Marrakech desert. Their official wedding will take place when the pandemic permits, but this simple, minimal, and symbolic elopement ceremony was all about them and their relationship.

Nastya and Rory

The Wedding:

Agafay Desert, Marrakech

Why A Minimalist Moroccan Elopement

I love everything related to styling and design. I create a lot of mood boards on Pinterest, and a lot of them have this Moroccan vibe and style. And, we always wanted to visit Marrakech, discover its culture, and explore the medina’s narrow streets as well as the famous vibrant marketplace. This is how the “where” of our elopement was decided. We wanted something quiet and more private, and a big event was not in our budget at that time. So we thought “this is it. Our opportunity to travel, explore and get married in a place we both always wanted to travel to.”

Making The Ceremony Personal

The ceremony was very laid back, minimal, and casual to represent our personalities. The wedding vows were honest and romantic. We had a tour with a dromedary camel in the desert before sunset and traditional Moroccan music.

What It Was Like Working With Junebug Member Cinema of Poetry

Kostas was lovely, and he made us feel really comfortable. He had already been in Marrakech, so we were able to explore the streets with him the day after the elopement. He told us a lot about their culture and actually saved us from a few scary situations. Since we spent more than just one day together we had the time to get to know each other better, too. He focused more on our story through short interviews that helped to reveal the essence of our relationship. We would definitely recommend him to anyone looking not just for a videographer but also a friend for their special day!

The most common realization after your wedding is over is that it happened so fast. Yes, there were months of wedding planning. But the big day is just that—a day. Then you wait for the images from your wedding photographer. When they arrive you’re filled with excitement and reminiscent of the joy you felt that day. Your wedding photos are then printed and placed in a book. Your wedding day is neatly catalogued and organized before being placed on a bookshelf in your living room. Or, you can have hand-painted wedding artwork with our friends at Paintru.

How To Commission Hand-Painted Wedding Artwork

Working with Paintru is seriously easy. We promise this will be the easiest artwork or gift you’ve ever bought! Their website breaks down the process of ordering custom art into four simple steps—with only two steps that you complete.

Step 1. Upload

Once you’ve chosen the image that you’d like painted, you upload it onto their website. Images can be .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .tiff up to 100MB. After you’ve uploaded your image, let them know if you’d prefer an oil or watercolor painting. There’s a section for notes regarding the style where you can also provide additional direction to the artist. For example, if you have a wedding landscape you’d love in Monet’s impressionist style or you’re interested in a more simplistic illustration-style watercolor–Paintru’s artists can paint them all!

After you’ve chosen your painting size, you’ll see some upgraded framing options. Make your selections and then checkout. It’s that easy! There are even financing options available through a partnership with Affirm.

Step 4. Your Art Is Shipped

Your painting is prepped for shipping and begins its journey to you. Once it arrives, it’s ready for display. Prepping and shipping typically takes five to ten days.

Step 5. Sit Back And Enjoy

Okay, we said there were only four steps but we think this one is the best part. It’s time to sit back and enjoy the masterpiece created from your images. This step lasts as long as your museum quality artwork does, so get comfortable.
