Inside a Wedding Planner’s Own Celebration at the Buffalo History Museum

November 22, 2025 | justine

When a professional wedding planner becomes the bride, expectations are high. But, for Kennedy and Ethan, that just meant creating something truly their own. After seven years together, the couple brought their dream day to life at the Buffalo History Museum, blending soft, garden-party romance with the architectural grandeur of one of the city’s most iconic venues.

Their love story began in 2017 on a double date—with other people. “Clearly, those relationships didn’t work out,” Kennedy said.. A year later, fate brought them back together, and despite living 59 miles apart and sharing one half-working car, they made it work. “After our first date, I told my best friend, ‘I’m going to marry him,’” she recalled. Seven years later, she was right.

What We Love About This Buffalo History Museum Wedding

  • A “garden party meets night at the museum” design that balanced soft florals with grand architecture
  • Classic black attire that gave the day timeless sophistication
  • Personalized DIY details, from love-letter napkins to cat-inspired bar signs
  • A tear-filled first look and handwritten vows
  • A karaoke moment that turned the reception into a full-blown celebration

Turning a Wedding Planner’s Imagination Into Reality

Kennedy’s vision started with contrast: light, airy garden elements set against the dark wood and marble of the Buffalo History Museum. “I wanted it to feel like you had just walked through a field of flowers, then sat down to dinner surrounded by history,” she explained.

As a full-time planner, Kennedy assumed her own wedding would be easy to organize but quickly realized being on the other side came with its own pressures. “It was a wake-up call to how stressful it really is for my clients,” she admitted. Determined to make it unique, she intentionally avoided venues and details she’d used before. From fresh linens to never-before-sourced florals, every choice was a deliberate departure from her professional routine.

Choosing Vendors She Trusted from Years in the Industry

Kennedy’s experience gave her one major advantage: an all-star vendor lineup she already knew and trusted. “Every vendor I hired was someone I’d worked with before and seen absolutely crush it,” she said. “I knew they’d bring the same energy to my own day.”

Budgeting, however, was a different story. “I knew exactly what things cost, but convincing Ethan was another thing entirely. It was a lot of back-and-forth and learning that this wasn’t someone else’s wedding I was planning with their credit card, it was ours.” Their top priorities were florals and photography, knowing that the blooms defined their aesthetic and the photos would be their most lasting keepsake.

Writing Their Own Vows and Honoring Family Traditions

The couple exchanged vows in the museum’s outdoor green space, framed by towering columns and lush, organic florals. “We both wrote our own vows and practiced them on our cats for weeks,” Kennedy shared. Her godfather officiated, while a groomsman read a traditional Catholic passage to honor Ethan’s faith.

Their emotional first look set the tone for the day. “Ethan was a mess. Seeing each other before the ceremony was such a relief, it grounded us.” After the ceremony, guests joined cocktail hour on the marble portico overlooking the lake, one of the Buffalo History Museum’s most picturesque features.

Effortless Wedding Fashion for a Garden-Party Celebration

Kennedy kept her bridal look simple yet elegant. Her fitted sweetheart gown with button detailing and subtle corseting was timeless and tailored to her petite frame. She paired it with a veil edged in delicate embroidery and opted for glowy, natural makeup. “I thought about an updo but wanted to feel like myself, so I wore my hair down and tucked back slightly,” she said.

Ethan wore a black tuxedo and bowtie, setting himself apart from his groomsmen, who wore traditional ties. Bridesmaids wore black dresses of their choice with playful details—bows, pearls, or ruffles—to tie into the “fun” side of their garden party theme.

Thoughtful Touches Inspired by Their Life Together

For two creatives, personalization was everything. The couple’s bar napkins featured handwritten snippets from old love letters, their signage and bar menus included hand-drawn portraits of their cats, and Ethan’s dad crafted the seating chart from thrifted gold frames. “Almost every decor element was DIY or personalized. It made the whole day feel like ours, not a copy of anyone else’s wedding.”

Ending the Night with Karaoke and Pure Joy

Their reception was as joyful as it was personal. Kennedy, a self-proclaimed karaoke queen, took the mic at her own wedding. “I brought the house down—if I do say so myself,” she joked. The couple’s curated playlist skipped the clichés (“no chicken dance, no ‘We Are Family’”) in favor of songs that matched their style and energy. The celebration unfolded on a black-and-white checkered dance floor under the stars, the perfect close to their Buffalo History Museum wedding.

Lessons Learned from a Bride Planning Her Own Wedding

Kennedy’s biggest takeaway? Even professionals aren’t immune to the emotions of wedding planning. “Planning your own wedding is hard and no one is exempt from the stress,” she said. “Take it one day at a time, stay organized, and remember what actually matters: marrying your person. At the end of the day, we could’ve gotten married behind a dumpster and still been the happiest people alive.”

From heartfelt vows to a karaoke mic drop, Kennedy and Ethan’s celebration reflected everything they value: creativity, connection, and a good time. And thanks to the timeless backdrop of the Buffalo History Museum, their “garden party meets museum night” was nothing short of unforgettable.

There’s a reason Marrakech continues to captivate couples from around the world. Between its centuries-old architecture, mesmerizing landscape, and vibrant culture, the city blends romance and refinement in a way few wedding destinations can. For those dreaming of an unforgettable celebration, Marrakech wedding venues offer something rare: transportive spaces where every corner feels cinematic.

From private villas just outside the medina to palace hotels that define luxury on a global scale, the city’s best properties cater to celebrations that embrace culture and craftsmanship. To help you choose the right setting, we’ve curated five standout venues—each offering exceptional design, renowned hospitality, and the atmosphere to turn a destination wedding into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Basics of a Marrakech Destination Wedding

Before choosing a venue, here are a few helpful details to guide your planning.

Best time of year:
Spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) are ideal, with mild temperatures and beautiful light for outdoor events. Marrakech’s rainy season runs from October to April, though spring sees significantly less rainfall than winter. July and August are dry but very hot, with temperatures often reaching 100°F.

Local regulations:
Some venues have sound restrictions or require permits for late-night celebrations. Alcohol service also varies by property, so confirm details in advance with your planner or venue team. Most couples opt for a symbolic ceremony, as legal marriages in Morocco require extensive paperwork and potentially long approval timelines.

Guest logistics:
Marrakech Menara Airport offers excellent international connections. Many venues provide private transfers—a major convenience for guests unfamiliar with navigating the medina. Rideshare apps like Uber or Lyft are not available, but the city’s petit taxis are easy to spot thanks to their bright orange color.

Cultural considerations:
Many couples incorporate elements of Moroccan design—zellige tilework, lanterns, live traditional musicians—to honor the setting. While several venues offer in-house design teams, a local planner is invaluable for bringing these details together with cultural sensitivity and ease.

An Intimate Lago di Braies Elopement Plus a Day of Adventure in the Dolomites

November 20, 2025 | justine

For Ann and Daniel, Lago di Braies was the heart of their story. Nestled in the Dolomites, the lake became the perfect setting for a day that felt calm, intentional, and completely theirs. They began the morning gliding across still waters, exchanged vows surrounded by mountain air, then spent the rest of the day chasing sunlight across peaks, capping it off with spritzes and laughter as the sky turned gold. It was an effortless, adventure-filled experience that celebrated love, nature, and the freedom of doing things their own way.

What We Love About This Lago di Braies Elopement:

  • A sunrise ceremony at Lago di Braies surrounded by quiet mountain air
  • A helicopter ride to Cadini di Misurina for jaw-dropping portraits
  • Intentional pauses built into the day—coffee breaks, a swim, and a private dinner
  • Minimalist styling that let nature and emotion take center stage
  • A day planned entirely around experiences that felt true to them

How Their College Friendship Led to a Lifetime of Adventure

Ann and Daniel first met at the University of New Hampshire. They were friends throughout college but went their separate ways after graduation. “Dan moved to New York and spent some time in California before returning to Boston, where I had been living since college,” Ann shared. “He reached out when he moved back and asked to take me out. After one date, the rest was history. We moved in together just weeks later!”

On their first date, they bonded over a shared love of travel and the mountains, a spark that ultimately shaped their wedding day. “We both had the Dolomites on our bucket list.“ Once we found out we could rent the boathouse at Lago di Braies, we knew this was the place.”

How to Build a Wedding Day Around Shared Experiences

Dan grew up on a lake, and after they met, they bought a home on one in New Hampshire, so starting their marriage beside another felt serendipitous. “The fact that Lago di Braies was in the mountains and on a lake made it an obvious choice,” Ann said. “It was private, beautiful, and the early morning timeslot allowed us to start the day by saying ‘I do’ as soon as we could.”

Without a guest list or reception to plan, Ann and Daniel focused their budget on shared experiences. “We wanted most of our budget to go toward enjoying the destination we’d chosen,” they shared. “We picked activities that we would have enjoyed regardless of whether it was our wedding day or not.”

It’s a mindset that reflects the growing appeal of destination and elopement-style weddings, especially in places as awe-inspiring as Lago di Braies. “It’s easy to get caught up in planning, but do what feels authentic to you as a couple, and you won’t regret it.”

How They Found Their Dream Vendors from Afar

Planning a destination elopement can feel overwhelming, but Ann and Daniel found ease through Junebug vendor Shawna Rae Photography. “Shawna really helped us plan,” they explained. “She suggested alternative locations, recommended the helicopter company, and even helped with the logistics of the entire day.”

With Shawna’s help, the couple explored Alpe di Siusi and took a helicopter ride with Elikos to Cadini di Misurina, each stop offering a new perspective of the Dolomites’ grandeur.

Their advice for other couples? “Find vendors that feel like friends. Since it was just us, we wanted to spend the day with people we genuinely enjoyed being around.”

Slowing Down to Savor Every Moment

While their Lago di Braies ceremony was undeniably romantic, what made the day truly special were the small, unscripted moments. “We wrote our own vows, which was the most personal part of the day,” Ann recalled. “Being able to get into one of the rowboats and have the lake to ourselves was such a special memory.”

The rest of their day was intentionally unhurried. Between locations, they swam in their hotel pool, grabbed cappuccinos, toasted with Aperol spritzes, and later sat down to a quiet private dinner.

A Soft, Simple Ending to a Beautiful Adventure

Surrounded by mountain air and quiet golden light, Ann and Daniel had everything they hoped for: a celebration that felt peaceful, personal, and true to who they are. Their Lago di Braies elopement was proof that the most meaningful weddings don’t need an audience—just intention and love.
