The Goals: We really wanted to enjoy the planning process all while praying that we wouldn’t lose perspective on what this day meant to us and allowing the day to reflect who we are as a couple.

The Design: We wanted to create a fun and welcoming environment. We wanted the “backyard” feel as neither of us wanted to feel outside of our element and just wanted to be comfortable on this big day. We also found wine country to be beautiful and we were fortunate to find a great venue just on the outskirts of Napa. The moonlight grove at Chardonnay Golf Club is a perfectly quaint and beautiful spot with everything we were looking for. We were very focused on the details but also focused on having fun with it and not taking it too seriously or allowing ourselves to get stressed. We wanted our guests to know how much we appreciated them for all their love and support. This meant we certainly wanted to have a welcome beverage station, bathroom baskets for the guests, and plenty of food and drinks throughout the evening. We are so grateful for how everything turned out and all of our vendors truly exceeded every expectation!

The Look: I really wanted a simple look as I did not want to feel too out of my element or uncomfortable on such a big day. I found a simple dress that I loved and paired a fun belt with it to give it a little something extra. I also didn’t want to go too over the top with the makeup or hair. Jocelyn Gomez of Bella Bridal Napa Valley did an awesome job on creating the look I wanted. She also did a fabulous job on all my bridesmaids, mom and grandmother. I loved my veil and the intricate details on it! I wasn’t even going to wear one, but eventually decided I should. I am so glad I did! I also wanted my bridesmaids to be comfortable and let them pick what they wanted to wear! They chose J.Crew silk chiffon dresses which looked great! They each wore a style they preferred and paired their own shoes and jewelry with it. It was great because each of their personalities were seen through it!

The Moments: My most favorite part of the day was when my husband and I took a golf cart all around the venue just after we got married. We got some awesome one-on-one time together and stood in awe of some amazing Napa Valley views. It was truly so romantic and just so special to have the time together. It was much needed to take a step back, breath, and take it all in. I also loved when my husband and I exchanged our own vows. It is something we will always remember.

The Advice: I would tell them to enjoy the planning process and that being engaged is such a unique season in a relationship. I also loved that my husband and I wrote our vows together; we decided what was important to us in a marriage and spent time in prayer asking for guidance. We then recited the same vows back to each other on our big day and it was so special. Most importantly, be reminded of what the day is all about. Don’t get too caught up in the details and other people’s opinions; just have fun with it! It is your day!

Grey and Yellow London Wedding at The British Academy – Mia and Andrei

August 1, 2012 | editorial team

Let me first state, I am LOVING London Week here at Junebug, and I may or may not have been spending a little time looking for airplane tickets to book a trip. Each new batch of photos we’ve had this week has more gorgeous shots of London scenery, and I’m just dying to go see it all in person. Until then though, Maria (known as Mia) and Andrei’s downtown London wedding at the British Academy will tide me over well. I love Marianne Taylor’s beautiful images of the historic buildings, London streets, and Mia’s exquisite taste and design sense. Enjoy!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Elegant, Fun, Designer

What was your wedding color palette? Grey and yellow

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? As a designer, it was important to me that even from the beginning, we expressed our personalities and our professions throughout. The invites featured our thumb prints, overlapping, which created a love heart. We also designed our own monogram which appeared on table runners, cocktails and even on the dessert. My husband works in wine so we thought it would be fun to have all the escort cards slotted into wine corks. We had the very best wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux and Champagne which are all the regions that my husband deals in. As two people who enjoy music, we chose a particular old school DJ with a live saxophonist and several drummers.

Did you incorporate any traditions or styles that are unique to the UK? Living in Englands capital, it was important for us to have a real London feel. We had a wonderful sit down three course meal, over looking Big Ben, the London Eye, and a few minutes walk from Buckingham Palace. The main meal was guinea fowl supreme wrapped in pancetta with spinach mousseline; olive oil mash and baby vegetables with game jus. It was absolutely mouthwatering. Andrei and I sat on our own table so that we could spend quality time together. We were told from our married friends that the day would go very quickly and that it was important to make time to be with your partner. Im glad we did.

We also had a British Postbox for all our cards, which was painted in white. And at the end of the night, after our reception, we organized a pub lock-in until 4.30am. A very British ending to a London wedding!

Tell us about your wedding location – how you chose it, what its history is. The British Academy in the Carlton House Terrace ticked all the boxes we were looking for. It was a beautiful historical building with huge windows, right in the center of London (right next to Trafalgar Square and The Mall), with a long balcony and manicured garden. The sweeping marble staircase alone was a winning point! Carlton House Terraces were built in 182732 by the architect, John Nash. Its most famous resident being William Ewart Gladstone (Prime Minister) from 185775.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding?

  • Getting ready in the ballroom with the most beautifully painted ceiling. Just think Sistine chapel!
  • Adapting the wording of the ceremony so that it was special to us.
  • My best friend reading a love poem for us.
  • Enjoying our dinner in the Mall room over looking the St. James Park and the Mall.
  • Hiring a saxophonist to play along side the DJ.
  • Handing out glow sticks and yellow fans for people to dance with in the evening.
  • Having our photographs taken at Traflagar Square.

The Vintage Vibes in This Mill at Yellow River Wedding Managed to Be Effortlessly Modern

When it comes to vintage charm, Brynn and Andrew’s Mill at Yellow River wedding takes the cake! Blush & Bashful Events helped give the couple’s love of vintage a modern twist that looked absolutely gorgeous inside the rustic-chic venue. JL Designs created floral arrangments in a mix of vibrant and warm oranges that added a touch of autumnal elegance to the entire look. We’re whole-heartedly obsessed with every detail of this wedding, especially the bride’s off-the-shoulder Theia Couture gown and handmade veil! From first look to the sparkler exit, photographer Katelyn Ortego truly captured the magic of this Georgia wedding!

The Couple:

Brynn and Andrew

The Wedding:

Mill at Yellow River, Porterdale, Georgia

Staying true to ourselves was the most important during planning! We didn’t want to do something just because it’s a thing people do! we wanted everything to be authentic, meaningful, and a celebration.

The most memorable part of our day was our first look before the ceremony! Spending time together alone was so special and magical we can’t imagine it any other way.

Our advice is to start planning early because the details can really start to pile up quickly. We only had 6 months to plan our wedding, and we really didn’t start until 2 months in…oops! Also, remind yourself that the little things like silverware don’t really matter. You will forget about it the next day when you’re on your honeymoon!

On the big day, let go of all planning stress, go with the natural flow, and enjoy every moment! (By that point, it’s out of your control anyway.) I dreamed of an outside ceremony and on the morning of I found out we had to have the ceremony inside because of the mud. I just went with it and it was still the most special day of our lives!

Lastly, do not be afraid to cut your guest list if you’re thinking about it. Small weddings are intimate and fun! We only had 115 guests and there were still a lot of people we didn’t get to say hi to.

I DIY-ed my veil! It was so much fun and it cost me $2 at JOANN! With Wendy has a great veil tutorial on youtube. I sewed it to a hair comb with tiny pleats and rounded the bottom half of the veil so that it was flowy when I walked and didn’t bunch together. I also DIY-ed a huge menu sign and welcome sign with wood from Home Depot. It was an easy way to make big statements!

Understated and Natural Elings Park Wedding

July 5, 2015 | jackie

Understated-and-Natural-Elings-Park-Wedding (7 of 36)

Gorgeous mountain views, bright yellow florals, and ivory colored bridesmaid gowns made up Ashley and Avery’s simply bright wedding at The South Bluffs in Elings Park! Event planner, and groom’s sister, Whitney Hardin ensured that the big day was absolutely perfect for the couple. We love the views and simple decor at the ceremony. And, best of all, photographer Mollie Crutcher didn’t miss a single moment capturing incredible photos of the excited couple!

The Couple:

Ashley and Avery

The Wedding:

The South Bluffs at Elings Park, Santa Barbara, California

The Inspiration:

We pulled inspiration from everywhere, I was on Pinterest constantly. We didn’t exactly choose a theme, but rather just went with what we liked. It was simple, clean, minimal. Our officiant, Braydon, was a good friend, and the only other person in the room when Ave and I met, it seemed fitting. Avery and I worked really hard, and had our hands in every step of the process. We thankfully had his sister, Whitney, a wedding planner to help along the way and had her assistant coordinate the day of. As far as fashion went, I wanted my gals in cream. I wasn’t keen on bright colored dresses, or any color for that matter, neutral is more my style. My dress was by Maggie Sottero, it was white, cream, silver and gold…not flashy, but subtle. Avery wore a grey Hugo Boss jacket to set himself apart. He really just gave his guys guidelines but let them choose. I did the same with my girls. The one thing I knew I wanted incorporated was succulents. I just love how beautiful, strong and resilient they are; a symbol of our marriage.

The Moments:

Avery: My favorite moment was when we were standing on top of a mountain, the ocean to one side of us, and all of our friends and family to the other. I was surrounded by everything I have ever loved – family, friends, my home town, and Ashley. It was a once in a lifetime moment.

Ashley: My favorite moment was at the end of the night, we took a limo home and sat on our front porch reminiscing about the entire day and how it could not have gone better. We worked really hard for that one day and it went off without a hitch.

The Couple Recommends:

Honestly, EVERY vendor we worked with was exceptional, friendly and easy to work with. We would recommend all of them!

Glamorous and Fun Bali Beach Wedding

May 13, 2015 | nicole

Glamorous-Fun-Bali-Beach-Wedding-Diktat-Photography (24 of 33)

Fuchsia, burgundy, and yellow were the perfect pops of color in Beatrice and Robert’s glamorous and fun Bali beach wedding. The bright hues really stood out against the crisp white linens of Cocoon Beach Club where the couple said “I do.” Joined by family from across the world, Beatrice and Robert envisioned a day that was comfortable and enjoyable for all with colorful games and prizes. Diktat Photography masterfully captured the effervescent celebration from perfectly planned details to romantic beach portraits after the rain.

The Couple:

Beatrice and Robert

The Wedding:

Cocoon Beach Club, Seminyak, Bali

The Inspiration:

Before we even started to think about how it all looked, the most important thing for us were whether our guests were going to enjoy it. We knew our wedding was going to be difficult, we’re from Australia but live in Japan. Rob’s family lives in the UK, and my family lives in Australia. We wanted to pick a place that was going to be a holiday for most people and enjoyable for everyone involved (including us!!). I always imagined that we would have an intimate, outdoor wedding (but it actually ended up raining through our wedding!), so everything we picked was with this in mind. We wanted the overall feeling to be cosy, romantic (but not sickeningly so), glamorous, fun and relaxed…but on a budget (we all know there’s one!).

To try and keep it fun, we incorporated games with some prizes, our happy colored sunglasses wedding favours, a Fujifilm Instax camera with some cute paper props, mad lib advice for us from everyone. Instead of canapes we had lots of ice creams and icy cocktails for everyone to combat the humid hot Bali heat. I love sweets and ice cream so dessert is before dinner is best!

For our wedding decor, I sent the Venue co-ordinator Jess photos of what I wanted, and asked her to personalise it to my theme of pink, yellow, silver, grey and gold. I love bright beautiful flowers, and red is very lucky in chinese culture so I asked her to include lots of red in our wedding flowers. The fairy lights and lanterns also created a great atmosphere. One of my favourite decor items was the LOVE lights, It just lit up the area so well, and I felt it was fun!

The Moments:

There are just too many to pick from! The whole wedding was so much fun for us. My personal favorite moment was my first dance with my dad in front of everyone, it was rather impromptu and my dad is a quiet, shy man who never says much in a family of 4 loud females (and 2 quiet men) so it’s a lot for him to be standing in front of everyone. During the dance he busted out dance moves that had everyone surprised (including me!). People asked how long we had rehearsed it because he was so good!

But a favourite moment that we both love is when we all went down to the beach and let off lanterns to make a wish for us. It was really fun to light up the lanterns at the end of the night. Everyone joined in and helped each other light them up so they could get going. There was lots of laughter and my dress even caught on fire for 2 seconds! Seeing the little lights float off in the night with everyone really gave both of us a mushy feeling.

The Couple Recommends:

We got our wedding rings made in Japan at Saiho Jewelry, and we love them! They were so patient and sweet. They listened to what we wanted and worked with our budget and handmade our beautiful rings.

Diktat was also really great to work with. He and his team just blended into the background and were always at hand to capture all our moments.

Gray and Yellow Wedding in Ontario

January 3, 2015 | nicole

Yellow-Gray-Wedding-Ontario-28

There’s something about a charming garden wedding that always puts a smile on our faces!  It’s easy to see why Chantal and Simon chose Strathmere to hold their gray and yellow wedding, with its lovely meadows filled with sunflowers and pastel accents. Ottawa photographer Blair Gable did a beautiful job capturing the couple’s sweet first look in the garden, which might be one of our all-time favorite moments. As if that weren’t enough, Chantal’s demure, vintage bridal style is one for the books.

The Couple: Chantal and Simon

The Wedding: Strathmere, North Gower, Ontario

The Inspiration: “It was really important to both of us that we not get lost in the details and plan a day that we could, and would, enjoy as much as our guests. To that end we kept things simple with a yellow and grey palette and a slight vintage vibe.

The Moments: “When talking this question over we could not narrow it down to one moment, so here are our top three! The first standout moment for us was definitely the first look photo shoot. It was a fun way to capture seeing each other for the first time in our wedding garb, while easing a little bit of the pressure/nerves before the ceremony itself. The second favorite moment was coming back up the aisle to the sweet, sweet sound of Hall and Oates, and knowing that the “official” part of the day was over and the party could begin. Finally we just had to give a shout out to the final song of the night: The Time of My Life. It was a great way to wrap things up and we were delighted by the number of folk who trooped with us until 1 AM.

The Couple Recommends: “Blair was a dream to work with and really gave us a set of photos that captured the key moments and mood of the day. We couldn’t be more pleased with our experience with him, an A+ professional from start to finish.

Strathmere was a delight. The staff were exceptional and the venue was gorgeous. They handled an enormous amount of the logistics and served a great spread!

Rustic Destination Wedding at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale, Arizona with Photos by Erica Velasco – Nicole and Kevin

October 19, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Nicole and Kevin’s destination wedding at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale, Arizona is full of details fit for a rustic wedding in the desert. The bride worked closely with Christy Kelman of Your Perfect Day to bring her beautiful vision to life, and Erica Velasco Photographers captured it all with these lovely photos.

The Goals: What was most important to us was to have an intimate event with our closest friends and family. We chose a destination wedding not only for the beautiful scenery, but to create a feeling of vacation, relaxation and fun for our guests.

The Look: I am very into fashion, so it was important to me to have a gown that did not feel too “wedding-dressy”. I ended up falling for a beautiful Pnina Tornai – a body hugging gown with diagonal stitching that added a bit of dimension and modernity to a crisp white fabric, a figure-eight style sweetheart neckline, a lace-up corset and intricately beaded crystal straps. The accessories were beautiful, yet simple – a vintage diamond floral bracelet, small crystal chandelier earrings, a gorgeous crystal hair pin and a simple long flowing veil. The L.K. Bennett nude sandals were also very simple, with straps that mimicked the diagonal lines in the dress. Keeping with more of the minimalist look, my bridesmaids also wore white dresses of their own choosing. I wanted to keep the overall palette neutral, with the vibrant bouquets popping against all the white. The men wore grey – not as formal as black, but still dashing and celebratory.

The Design: We had pictured a peaceful and beautiful ceremony driven by nature and the serenity of the desert landscape, a candle-lit dinner under the stars and then a fun (and crazy!) dance party for the reception indoors…and we certainly got all three! For the ceremony, I focused on nature – the greens of the cactus, tans of the desert and corals, reds and yellows of the desert flowers. My florist, Petal Pushers, brought in what were truly the most gorgeous flowers I had ever seen. These “desert bouquets” lined the aisle, were draped over the arch and were the pop of color offsetting my bridesmaids, who were all dressed in white. We got married as the sun was setting and it was dark by dinner, with lanterns and candles on the tables and bistro lights strung above. The feel was rustic, elegant and intimate.

The Moments: Truly, the day was spectacular to me. It was beautiful, intimate and incredibly fun! Standing in front of a fire pit, with water flowing and the sun setting across the desert background while being married to the man I love was unforgettable. His vows and emotion were also unforgettable. Having our family and closest friends with us made the event perfect. And, honestly, I will never forget the dance party…non-stop dancing by almost every person there, or the most amazing dance with my father, who surprised me with some serious dance moves!

The Advice: My best advice would be to get most of the big decisions made early on. Wedding planning can go on for a year or more and you don’t want it to take over your life. This day is important, but it is only a day, so make the big decisions and then don’t stress too much over the smaller things. If you have a solid vision and the right people helping you, it will all come together. I was lucky enough to have had some serious talent on my side, with an amazing wedding planner, photographer, florist and the Four Seasons’ event planner. And even if it doesn’t turn out according to plan, if you have the right guests in attendance, not much else matters. Beyond marrying Kevin, for me, having a week-long vacation with most of my closest friends and family and watching them all come together and enjoy themselves…that was the biggest success of the wedding.

Bright and Fun Summer Wedding in Atlanta – Genya and Pete

February 21, 2014 | nicole

It might still be a bit cold outside, but I promise, this bright and fun summer wedding in Atlanta should warm you right up! Genya and Pete were married in a colorful celebration that was 100% them; goofy, brilliantly designed and surrounded by love and family. Genya is a photographer herself at Vue Photography and entrusted the day to Paperlily Photography who perfectly captured all the genuine emotions and unexpected moments.

The Goals: WE wanted it to be FUN!!!!!!!!!!

The Moments: Wow there are so many funny ones!

I have 2 little girls (Mia 8, and Harper 3) and both added humor to the event! The duo insisted on being bridesmaids and did an amazing job. The funniest part was that right before I walked down the aisle – we were lined up and Harper had just woken up from a snooze. In true 3 year old form – she needed some bribery. I offered her a fruit snack – and she strongly said “whole pack”! Well, I said OK, and she tossed her flower wand in a bush and took off carrying a whole bag of fruit snacks down the aisle. Mia then looked at me and said “I really want your bouquet.” Well, I gave that to her. She took off down the aisle beaming and it made her day. So I was left with my 2 dads and an heirloom hankie from my mother-in-law. Arm and arm, hankie in hand, I headed towards the only accessory I wanted…Pete.

The expressions on the kids faces were hilarious during the ceremony and you can see it all in the images. 1. Harper ate all the fruit snacks, was very proud and showed it. 2. Then while were were crying during the vows Harper crept around to check on me, trying to console. 3. Finally when we kissed the kids roared with eews and laughter!

Our ceremony was outside and in true July form, we were dodging thunderstorms. We had a clearing on the radar and went for it. It was perfect and COOL outside which is totally abnormal for a steamy Atlanta summer. The second the ceremony was done Pete and I ran over to our “bench in the park”. This bench was where we first said “I love you” and also the same spot where he had proposed. A month before the wedding we also buried a bottle of whisky, upside side down in the ground there for good luck on the wedding day. It was suppose to ward off the rain. (Technically it was a Kentucky tradition of burying bourbon and we kind of messed it up). Well- the very second Pete pulled the bottle out of the ground, the lightning cracked, thunder boomed, and the rain started! It was wild and perfect timing. We danced the rest of the night away, safely inside!

The Design: We really wanted our guest to feel “us” in the event. We tried to have tons of things that were special to us – like the venue was the park where we hang out, run, swim, play, had dates, said “I love you’s”. Then King of Pops who served popsicles during the ceremony seating is one of our favorite summertime desserts, we had maps of the city showing all of our favorite spots incorporated throughout, Pete’s Uncle officiated the ceremony to keep it in the family. Sun in My Belly catered and it’s one of our FAVORITE restaurants…we’ve walked there on my many nights to share a meal. We started the wedding weekend by running the Peachtree Road Race and invited guests to join in. We’re marathoners and had our florist make a shoe chandelier out of our race shoes.

The Photographer: Since I’m a wedding photographer myself this was a tough one! I snagged Paperlily Photography because their work seemed genuine. I knew for a fact that they would capture our wedding as it unfolded – silliness and all for what it was. Energy and passion are two things that are must for a good photographer and Paperlily has it!

The Advice: Just have fun! Put your event in the hands of good professionals and go with it!

Sunny, Rustic Barn Wedding in Michigan with Photos by Dan Stewart – Claire and Todd

November 11, 2013 | christine

If the fall rain has been getting you down lately, cheer up with this sunshine filled rustic barn wedding photographed by Dan Stewart Photography! With a happy color scheme of pale yellow and light grey, this wedding was full of fun details. Claire even arrived in style in an old vintage Chevy truck and Todd got the perfect groom’s cake featuring his proud alma mater, the University of Michigan.

The Goals: For us, our wedding was about bringing our family and friends together in a place we both love, Traverse City, Michigan. We knew we wanted to have an outdoor ceremony by the water, so all we had to do was find the right place with enough rustic charm to make everyone feel relaxed and right at home. We also added a lot of small personal DIY touches that made the day feel even more special.

The Design: We both love the outdoors and enjoy being by the water. Once we stumbled upon Crooked Creek Ranch, we knew that an outdoor ceremony on Lake Leelanau and a reception in the beautifully renovated barn fit us perfectly. Since we were having a summer wedding, we decided to make everything fresh, light and airy by choosing a yellow and grey color scheme with small details of hearts and love birds on the cake and stationery. Our ceremony was set up in an open field facing the lake and acoustic guitar played as an old white Chevy helped make a memorable bridal entrance. Our reception followed in the old red barn, decorated with paper lanterns and pomanders, market lights, and an old door with mail slot for cards. We kept our flowers simple with mostly whites and yellows and some greenery and texture, which created just the right balance of sophisticated elegance with easy rustic charm. It turned out to be even better than we expected.

The Look: For the dress, I wanted something simple, elegant and lacy that would fit in with our outdoor rustic barn wedding. I settled on a fit and flare style that was light enough to move around in and have a good time. I loved the horizontal striped pattern of lace running down my dress and the way the pattern swooped onto the train. The little bits of sequins and beading made the dress sparkle in the sunlight without being too overpowering, and mid-length veil was the perfect finishing touch. My husband and I are about the same height, so it was important that I not wear heels for our wedding. My sparkly flats were absolutely amazing and made me feel like a bride. The bridal party wore strapless pale yellow dresses from David’s Bridal. The mix of styles in coordinating color was perfect along with their own shoes and accessories.

The Moments: We both agree that our favorite part of the wedding was our ceremony. We did not see each other before the ceremony, which made that moment walking down the aisle extra special. We also chose to write our own vows. It was a heartfelt and real expression of our love for one another and we’re so happy that we could share it with our friends and family. Lastly, we chose to use beach sand from where we each grew up in our sand ceremony. Our ceremony was so romantic and personal for us, and at the end it was such a huge relief to finally look at each other as husband and wife.

The Advice: With so many opinions to juggle, it’s extremely challenging to keep your sanity while wedding planning and keep the wedding focused on the two of you. My first piece of advice is to pick the top three things in your wedding that you really care about and make sure they are exactly they way you want them. Take the time and energy to be sure they are perfect. My second piece of advice is to trust your wedding professionals. Most have a very good ideas of what will work and what will not work, and might even have new things in mind to make your day even more special (my florist actually added handmade and vintage pieces of lace to my bouquet that were absolutely breathtaking). My third and most important piece of advice is to set aside time for personal pampering during the wedding planning process. Whether it is getting your nails done, or getting massages, take the time you need for yourself away from it all to relax and decompress. You will feel better and everyone else will too.
