This Minimalist Wedding at The Manor House Includes One of Our Favorite First Looks Ever

January 16, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We are loving Min-Joo and Rob’s minimalist Colorado wedding at The Manor House! Min-Joo’s Kathryn Conover dress is sleek and modern which pairs perfectly with Rob’s classic Yves Saint Laurent suit. The stylish couple had a tearful and moving first look as Min-Joo walked down the aisle towards her groom and they exchanged vows with the Colorado mountains behind them. The celebration continued inside where their reception’s decor was full of gold and marble details, brought together with the prettiest greenery. Summer Leigha Photography killed it in documenting in the day, especially Min-Joo and Rob’s fun and playful personalities!

The Couple:

Min-Joo and Rob

The Wedding:

The Manor House, Littleton, Colorado

I wanted a simple dress that was beautiful and edgy in a subtle manner. After trying on over 20 dresses, there wasn’t a single dress I loved enough that I wouldn’t change anything about it. So I took matters into my own hands, designed the dress that I wanted, and found an amazing wedding designer/seamstress in New York that was able to make me a custom dress. The entire experience of getting a customized dress was so much fun and cost effective! I was able to design and wear a dress that was truly unique and my own.

Though we had perfectly blue skies all morning and afternoon, the hour before our wedding things started to turn. Dark clouds rolled in quickly from the mountains, thunder reverberated through the valleys, and suddenly rain started to pour from the sky. We were sure that we would have to do the ceremony indoors, but true to form, Colorado weather turned again. Luckily for us, 5 minutes before the ceremony, the skies cleared up. My husband saw me for the first time that day walking down the aisle with the sun shining down on us and The Rocky Mountains behind us. He cried. I cried. It was pretty amazing.

words cannot explain how much we loved our photographers. Summer and Adam are truly talented and more importantly, they are beautiful souls. When we first met Summer for our engagement photos in New York, it was as if we knew each other for a long time. We thank our lucky stars to walk away from this entire experience with not only breathtaking photos but also lifetime friends.

We wanted a wedding that was minimalist but classic and beautiful; to be cost effective but still have the opportunity to be creative and bring a little bit of New York edginess to Colorado charm. Most importantly, we wanted to make sure the wedding was a celebration of us and our love without all the frills and thrills.

I bought a tall mirror from a discount store and wrote our favorite Pablo Neruda poem in chalk paint. We used this as decoration for the ceremony and reception! We also DIY’d the marble tile name cards and marble table numbers – I bought sheets of marble tiles, calligraphy ink, and nibs on Amazon. Also, I got some gold and clear spray paint from a craft store. A few hours of inhaling spray paint and one very bad hand cramp later, we had some rad looking name cards that guests could take home.

Rob‘s parents are from China and my parents are from South Korea. Tea is an important part of both our cultures and we wanted to share that with our guests. A few months before the wedding, Rob‘s father visited China. He brought back a variety of traditional Chinese tea leaves: an oolong tea and a rock tea sourced from the Wuyi mountains, usually reserved for honored guests in Chinese tradition. We gave each of our guests a little white box of both tea leaves packaged in gold and red (for good luck), and a reusable tea strainer.

This Celestial Sun and Moon Wedding Inspiration is Out of This World

January 15, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

This sun and moon wedding inspiration is as dreamy as it gets. We are obsessed with the mixed metals incorporated with the copper arch and gold details found on the table. The arch is covered in a beautiful macrame piece made by The Living Wall, and the light blue and yellow Fields in Bloom KY florals make a perfect contrast to the orange tones of the copper. The asymmetrical backdrop has a whimsical vibe with the floating candles and roses. There’s no doubt that Brandi Potter Photography made absolute magic in photographing this dreamy wedding inspiration.

Stylish Outdoor Oregon Wedding at Clackamas River Farm

January 15, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Ally and Micah’s outdoor wedding at Clackamas River Farm is sure to make you tear up! The entire day is nothing short of sweet and the details are swoon-worthy. Ally’s flower-inspired Heidi Gibson ring goes perfectly with her Brier & Ivy bridal bouquet, and Micah’s dark red ASOS suit is modern yet timeless. We love how Dawn Photo photographed the day, including an emotional first look and exchanging looks as Ally walked down the aisle. More of this goodness was captured by NW Creatives and Micah created an animated version himself!

The Wedding:

Clackamas River Farm, Eagle Creek, Oregon

The first look was the most memorable. We waited until around 2 PM to see each other, so getting to share that moment alone was one of the most epic pieces of the day. We both couldn’t stop gawking at each other for the rest of the evening.

We both we’re really into planning the wedding and something that we wanted to come across was our personalities. We tried to focus the atmosphere on being a really fun, “do it our way,” wedding where everyone felt like they experienced something new at our wedding that they hadn’t seen at others.

For us, an outdoor venue was the only way. We were rather picky and had a list of things we wanted: Outdoor ceremony/reception, shade if it’s too hot, an indoor area we could get ready in, lots of floral, not a vineyard, and close enough so that people wouldn’t have to stay overnight nearby. We looked at a ton online before visiting any and there was only one that we really liked enough to want to visit. We visited Clackamas River Farm on a super rainy day in February, took a tour, and were sold. It couldn’t have been more perfect. They have a TON of floral around the property, so we didn’t need to put that much up ourselves. The ceremony and reception locations we’re in two different yards, so it felt separated but not far away. There was plenty of room for our picnic tables, as well as a perfect shaded area and dance floor. It was truly a special place.

PIZZA FOOD TRUCK, HECK YEAH. This was one of our favorites. We really had a hard time deciding what food to have because we were trying to please everyone. Well, everyone likes pizza and Portland is known for its food carts so we had ASH Woodfired Pizza bring their truck with a woodfire oven in it to serve fresh pizzas the whole evening. Everyone loved it and thought it was a really cool idea.

By coincidence, we both shared our own version of the same gift. We both have grown up together and have known each other since middle school. Our story is really fun, and we are both creative people, so both of our gifts told our personal story in different ways. Ally made a scrapbook of all of the memories and items she could find starting with the day we met. This included yearbook photos (which were always next to each other), funny social media posts, pictures, ticket stubs, jokes, etc. It was amazing! It’s such a special thing that we will have forever. I (Micah) am an animator, and so I told our story through an animated short film which I worked on during our engagement. I premiered it to her and our families at the rehearsal dinner the night before. I will never forget that moment.

Do whatever you want. This might seem obvious, but a lot of people that gave us (mostly unsolicited) advice would go on about how stressful and awful wedding planning is. It’s really not. Our experience was that if you make it something to do together and go on dates where you plan certain things, you find that it’s actually a fun process. A lot of people get hung up on doing certain things because “that’s the way it is” but we just tried to do whatever we thought would be fun for us and others to enjoy the day of. Take the pressure off yourself and enjoy the process, you only get to do it once.
