This Bohemian Bodega Bay Wedding Had a Thrilling Cliffside Ceremony

Ashley and Kevin’s intimate Bodega Bay wedding had the dreamiest cliffside first dance. These hippie, adventure-seeking, lovebirds opted for a small ceremony that is unlike anything they had seen before. Growing up landlocked, they knew they wanted a waterfront wedding, so these two road-tripped until they found the perfect spot! Ashley wore a stunning Lillian West wedding dress and Kevin looked dapper in his custom tailored suit. Their ceremony had custom DIY boho details, including a teepee arch that they stood in front of when becoming husband and wife. Lauren Dixon Photography captured every moment of Ashley and Kevin’s magical day.

Lauren made me feel really special and reminded me to smile and be myself. She got to work right away and I felt like I never needed to double check that she got a shot that I hoped for.

I guess you could call me a tree hugging hippie so I wanted to find a bohemian dress that fit the scene. The ethereal flower embroidery on my dress was exactly what I was looking for.

Kevin and I both come from land locked places (Germany and Minnesota) but both of us dreamed of an ocean wedding. Not a beach wedding, a cliff wedding. Bodega Bay was perfect. 

My friend who officiated is a yoga teacher and led a prayer connecting our love to the elements. We had a clear quartz “marriage crystal” I called it that everyone took turns holding to infuse their love into it.

A lot of people told us that a small wedding is the way to go… and they were right! We had a chance to talk to everyone who came for the ceremony which I’ve heard is rare at big weddings. Everyone felt really special to be a part of the intimate circle during the standing ceremony. People might be shocked you’re not having chairs or a “real reception” but if they are high vibe and joining you on your special day for the celebration of love, it doesn’t matter!

We went on a spontaneous weekend camping trip that started on the most northern part of the California coast and drove all the way down until we found our spot. The minute we found our cliff spot we knew it was the place!

Kevin and I are as free spirited as it gets, so I wanted it to be very ethereal and divine. We love traveling, festivals, surfing, yoga, crystals, nature, and close friends and family.

At the Picnic I wanted to make sure we all had a piece of our wedding cake which was a German raspberry cake Kevin’s mom made. She had brought ingredients with her from Germany so it was really special.

This Couple Nailed Their At-Home Photo Shoot With Plants, Pizza, and Tons of Cuddles

Oksana and Ray’s at-home photo shoot has some major cozy vibes. These two invited Behind the Blush and Nicole Ashley Photography into their New York home to hang out and photograph them as they drank coffee and ate pizza – talk about goals! But as wonderful and dreamy their session sounds, the story of how these 4 met isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Here’s a little insight from Nicole Ashley on how it all unfolded:

“Janna and I met Oksana and Ray on October 1st, the night of the mass shooting in Vegas. While running, we found a hidden bathroom of a restaurant where we stayed in lockdown with them until the early hours of the morning. They were sweet, funny, and really helped to lighten the mood (as much as possible). We talked a little bit about ourselves and our lives to pass the time and exchanged social media contacts. I never thought I would see them again.

Fast forward to last month, Janna and I were hired to work in Brooklyn, New York, and on our day off, our schedules matched up and we got to spend time with Oksana and Ray. Ray recently proposed and the stars aligned for all of us to create something beautiful together.”

Dramatically Glamorous Winter Wedding at Parker Palm Springs

Full of modern elements, Charyssa and Austin’s wedding at Parker Palm Springs is a sight to see! With so many personal touches, Charyssa and Austin wanted to make their big wedding to have a small and intimate feel to it – this led to lots of hand-lettering and DIY projects! Luckily, Charyssa has experience doing calligraphy for many other weddings and was able to finally able to use her trade for her very own wedding. Her work alongside Arrangements Floral & Party Design‘s rich florals and trendy rentals came together for a modern and glamorous occasion. Photographer Lauren Scotti and videographer Thomas Wedding Cinema effortlessly captured the beautiful details and romantic love between Charyssa and Austin.

We made as much as we could ourselves. After doing the calligraphy professionally for so many other weddings, it was so much fun to finally do it for my own! I wrote out all of our guests’ names on their menus, created the escort card display with calligraphed names, and addressed all of our save the dates and wedding invitations. Pretty much anything that was handwritten had my touch on it! It was a year of planning and hand cramps for sure!

Our planner, Constance Curtis, was a godsend. She was so organized and thought of everything. The wedding weekend ran like a well-oiled machine, and if anything did happen to go wrong, she is so good that I never knew about it!

Lauren Scotti, our photographer, was also amazing to work with. Austin & I connected with her immediately and she made us feel so at ease during our engagement shoot. We were so excited to see her again the day of the wedding!

Hands down my favorite piece to work on was hand-painting the names on the flower girls’ leather jackets. The girls loved them!

The first thing we said when planning was we didn’t want specific wedding colors. Instead of limiting ourselves to two or three colors, we opted to go by mood. We loved the idea of going dark and dramatic for winter so if it fell into that category, it worked for us! It was so much more fun to plan without worrying if it matched a swatch perfectly! All of the designs evolved organically until we eventually ended with black, gold, silver, gray, burgundy, gunmetal, blush, and white.

Reciting our own vows was the best decision we made about our day. We both get terribly nervous to speak in front of crowds, but at that moment it was only about the two of us. Austin comes from a very traditional Mexican family and I loved seeing the surprised look on his face when I recited half of my vows in Spanish! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we were done.

Don’t let traditions limit you, but don’t let trends rule you either. It can be really easy to get swept up in the latest and greatest on blogs or Pinterest, but I think it’s so important to remain authentic to you and your significant other. Go with the trends and traditions that match your personalities and vibes as a couple!

We knew our guests well, which meant we knew they would have fun that night! After several hours of amazing cocktails and dancing, we sent our guests home with a very helpful hangover kit. We had “in Sickness and In Health” bags filled with Advil, Emergen-C, and mints wrapped around small Fiji water bottles. Everyone was so appreciative and the favors were a huge hit!

We knew it would be impossible to have a small wedding with all of our friends and large family, but we didn’t want to compromise that intimate vibe you get with a smaller crowd. We worked so hard to personalize every detail, whether it was with handwriting every guest’s name or letting everyone in to the rawness of our vows, we wanted to keep the night true to our personalities regardless of the size of the event. It was so important to us to create an experience for every person who came to celebrate with us.
