This Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Proves That Timeless Style is Far from Boring

January 6, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Charmaine and Scott’s Hawaii wedding at Olowalu Plantation House was as classic and timeless as could be! The couple knew they didn’t want anything trendy for their special day so that, when they look back on these stunning photos from Water Gypsies Photography, they love them as much as they do today. With that goal in mind, the couple tasked Opihi Love with helping them create a charming setup for their ceremony with cafe lights and lanterns strung through the trees and elegant design for their reception with cream-colored linens, minimal gold table decor, and simple white floral centerpieces created by Lois Hiranaga Floral Design. The stunning grounds of the plantation truly spoke for itself, so they didn’t need to add much decor to create an incredible look. Plus, easy access to the waterfront afforded them the opportunity for some killer newlywed photos along with the classic portraits!

The Couple:

Charmaine and Scott

The Wedding:

Olowalu Plantation House, Maui, Hawaii

For our wedding, we had 3 major goals we wanted to hit: good food, good drinks, and good entertainment.

Our advice for couples that are planning their own weddings is simple: don’t become a crazy person. Stay true to yourself and set a budget!

We gave out individually boxed donuts. Because we figured guests usually throw away their favors, we opted for edible favors that guests would enjoy.

Elegantly Eclectic UK Wedding at The Spire Brighton

January 5, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Emma and James made eclectic elegance look effortless and timeless in their DIY wedding at The Spire Brighton! The reception venue, which is a decommissioned church, offered both a blank canvas on which the couple could create the wedding vibe of their dreams and old-world architecture with tons of visual interest.  They added twinkle lights, long wooden tables, and vintage roses to show off the inherent charm of the venue without covering it up and focused on meaningful details to make the day truly feel like their own. In juxtaposition to the eclectic vibe, Emma rocked a romantic Rembo Styling gown and custom veil and James looked handsome in a classic navy suit from Gresham Blake. The details of this Brighton wedding were flawless from top to bottom, and Beatrici Photography captured it all brilliantly!

The Couple:

Emma and James

The Wedding:

The Spire Brighton, United Kingdom

We always knew that when we got married, we just wanted it to be a big party with our closest friends and family. We wanted good food, lots of drink and great music. We wanted everyone to relax and really enjoy themselves so we tried to make it a chilled and informal as possible. We went for a real DIY approach, finding a venue that was a completely blank canvas, so we could make it completely personal to us.

My dress was the “Louka” dress from Rembo Styling and had a beautiful scalloped lace design for the bodice with cut out sides and a simple bias cut crepe skirt. I wanted to add a personal touch to my outfit and it was my mum who suggested I get a veil which I decided to have personalized. I went to Jenny King Embroidery who are based in Brighton and do the most beautiful embroidery for some big fashion brands and designers, so I was really lucky to work with them. I designed the placement and Jenny and her team embroidered it onto my veil. I used words from our first dance song and incorporated horseshoes and seagulls along with roses and trailing vines so it had a link with other aspects we had used throughout the wedding.

DIY weddings are great, you get to create something completely unique to you as a couple, but they are hard work and take a lot of time and effort! It’s easy to say now, but really take as much help as you can on things that you can give away. Equally, go with your gut! There will be so many opinions flying around on what everyone thinks you should be doing but, ultimately, it’s your day and only you as a couple will know what’s best. Finally, try not to stress! Some things won’t go to plan but no one will notice; they will be having too much of a good time!

Apart from seeing each other for the first time and saying our vows, I think the most memorable part of the day was when we entered the main room for the wedding breakfast. James had arranged for Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’ to play as we walked in, a song which holds a lot of memories for us both. Everyone was cheering, clapping along and banging on the tables to the song. when we arrived at our seats, they didn’t stop and carried on. It was quite overwhelming and a really lovely moment having everyone we loved in on room clapping and singing for us!

We didn’t want a formal sit down 3 courses but wanted it to be relaxed sharing experience that got everyone chatting. We went for a ‘posh’ BBQ theme with sharing platters and big bowls of salads. We love having BBQ’s in the summer and having friends and family over so it was another really personal choice.

This Aspen Wedding at The Smith Cabin Honored the Couple’s Love of the Great Outdoors

January 4, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Amber and Matthew’s wedding at The Smith Cabin was as quintessentially Aspen as it gets! With views for days and rustic vibes that wouldn’t quit, the family-owned property was the perfect mountaintop venue for this outdoor-loving couple to begin their new journey as husband and wife. The artists at 3 Leaf Floral put together stunning arrangements for everything from their cliffside ceremony to the table and lounge area centerpieces to the bridal party’s eye-catching bright red and burgundy bouquets. The bride looked absolutely stunning in a Maggie Sottero gown, and the rest of the wedding party brought glamour to the mountaintops in chic yet modern attire. We can hardly get over all the outdoorsy goodness of this wedding day and the way Olivia Markle Photography truly captured the romantic feeling!

The Couple:

Amber and Matthew

The Wedding:

The Smith Cabin, Aspen, Colorado

Our wedding day was unlike any other wedding we had ever attended. I think that every couple knows how to best celebrate their love, and for us, our Aspen cliff side wedding was everything we had ever wanted. Matthew and I are both avid travelers. We treasure all of our special memories made around the world. We wanted a weekend filled with exploring, laughing and enjoying our favorite people. Our destination wedding was as many of our guests explained, an experience and day they will never forget.

We both would agree our most memorable part of our day was our vows. From the beginning of our relationship, we would write each other little notes when we would leave; for the other to find. We eventually ended up with a notebook to be able to contain our little scribbles to each other. From the moment we got engaged we started working little by little on our vows. Both full of nerves we read our vows and it started to sprinkle, a gust of wind blew through. In that brief moment, we felt, Matthew‘s late father touching us all. I think we would all agree the room was full of tears and emotions.

Find your way to think outside of the box. A wedding is a time of creation and self-exploration. It reflects who you are and to us that just meant a wedding with a ceremony in the dirt, breathtaking views and a cliffside dinner surrounded by trees, stars, and loved ones.

We wanted our wedding to resemble us. We both love and appreciate the outdoors. We knew we wanted a small destination wedding with beautiful views. Countless venues and a few states later we found our venue. There, on yet another internet search was this small little family cabin on the edge of Aspen mountain with endless views. We fell in love instantly and booked a flight to Colorado in the dead of winter. We packed tightly in a snow mule and took a long winding road up to the cabin. With our snowshoes, coats, and hats we trekked to look out over the cliffside at the snow capped mountains and we knew this was it. We wanted our wedding here! What an experience our little wedding would be, winding road and all.
