Before we get started, we want to make one thing clear: you are perfect the way you are! These are merely suggestions that can help you feel your best on your wedding day and milestones to keep in mind as you’re scheduling appointments. Simply do what makes you feel great and forget the rest!

7-8 Months

  • Start your wedding beauty inspiration Pinterest board or binder
  • Set your beauty budget
  • Research local hair stylists and makeup artists to get price lists and find out if they go on-location for weddings
  • Decide whether to cut your hair or grow it out for the wedding day
  • If you want to increase your energy and/or tone up for the big day, choose and start a workout plan that makes you feel good

5-6 Months

  • Request hair and makeup consultations with salons/artists you’re interested in to help make your final decision
  • Schedule hair and makeup for the wedding day
  • Schedule a trial run with the hair/makeup teams 1-2 months before the big day
  • Visit a dermatologist if you have any skin concerns you’d like to clear up and to set up a skincare routine

3-4 Months

  • Try out any new body or skin treatments to see how your skin reacts
  • Decide if you’d like to try to grow or reshape your brows — if yes, consider consulting with a brow specialist
  • If you’ve never had a spray tan, test it out so you’ll know how it will look
  • Get a facial to start prepping your skin to look its best
  • Opt for proper teeth whitening tray kits like the custom ones available from Sporting Smiles

1-2 Months

  • Finalize your wedding day beauty look (including hair accessories) in your trial run appointments
  • If you’re doing your makeup, stock up on products, head to a Sephora for pro tips, and start practicing
  • Get your teeth whitened

2 Weeks

  • Get your hair trimmed
  • If you color your hair, get any needed touch-ups done
  • Schedule manicures and pedicures for the day before the wedding
  • Start to moisturize your skin every day
  • Indulge in a massage
  • Finalize your wedding day beauty timeline and give a copy to your planner/coordinator, beauty team, and bridesmaids

1 Week

  • Confirm all beauty appointments
  • Get a wax
  • Splurge on one more facial so you’re glowing on the big day
  • Put together your wedding day beauty emergency kit (anything you might need for touch-ups)

1 Day

  • Get a manicure and pedicure (tip: bring your own color so you have it on the wedding day for emergency touch-ups)
  • Wash and deep condition your hair for the last time before the wedding
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep

Casual Wedding Fashion Never Looked Cooler Than This California Ranch Wedding

June 19, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

If you’re a fan of casual wedding fashion, Lane and Bobby’s wedding in Northern California is about to make all your dreams come true! The DIY celebration took place at Bobby’s family ranch and was full of non-traditional charm that spoke the couple’s carefree personalities. They had a self-solemnized ceremony in the middle of a field, had the entire wedding party wear casual white attire, and even set up camping tents for their guests to stay on property. As if all that wasn’t fun enough, the couple also hand-painted animal place card holders for every guest and dyed their own napkins. To say this wedding was cool would be an understatement, and photographer Britt Crowe was the perfect choice to capture the laid-back vibes of this special day!

The Couple:

Lane and Bobby

The Wedding:

Private Ranch, Healdsburg, California

The most memorable part of the day was when it started to come time to gather, we were getting ready upstairs and I had just come back from a trail run to clear my head and I could hear Bobby’s favorite song playing over the sound system set up on the lawn, like a love song, drifting in through the open window. When the guests started to arrive, seeing them appear alongside the pool as if out of a Disney movie, all dressed in white carrying our Chinese paper parasols, I realized our dream had come true.

We wrote our ceremony from scratch and chose to self-marry, without an officiant. So we handed a notebook back and forth and read each part of our ceremony to one another. We blessed the land, honored the sun, moon, told stories about how we met, honored both sets of parents, and family gone before us. It was romantic and special and teary.

Our advice: simplify, simplify, simplify. You can save money and headache by doing less. Cut out what doesn’t truly mean something to you. That way it will feel authentic for everyone without (as much of) a fuss.

This Hindu-Jewish Wedding Brought the Couple’s Vibrant Cultures to the Great Outdoors at Convict Lake Resort

June 18, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

With nods to both their Hindu and Jewish traditions, Nivi and Daniel created a simply stunning fusion wedding at Convict Lake Resort! The couple tied the knot in front of a breathtaking lake, nestled in the mountains of California, with a focus on Hindu, Jewish, and American traditions that felt true to them. Then the couple led their guests in a second-line-style parade to the reception, accompanied by a brass band that played them into the night! We’re honestly not sure what we love most: the vibrant orchid arrangements designed by Mum n’ Roses; the couple’s uncontainable joy and dance moves; or Nivi’s unique twist on Hindu-meets-American bridal fashion. Needless to say, we’ll be thinking about this wedding and these photos captured by Whitney Justesen Photography for a very long time!

The Couple:

Nivi and Daniel

The Wedding:

Convict Lake Resort, Mammoth Lakes, California

Nivi was born in India and grew up in the United States; Daniel was born in California and grew up with strong Jewish traditions. We wanted to plan a wedding that celebrated our cultures and where we came from, but also felt authentic to who we both are today. We co-created a ceremony with Daniel’s brother and Nivi’s sister – the people who know us best. They shared stories that painted a vivid picture of us and our connection while incorporating what we felt were the most beautiful aspects of both Hindu and Jewish cultures.

As a daughter of immigrant parents from India, I am a fusion of two cultures. While I was born in India and grew up with some Hindu traditions, I am culturally American and married an American. It didn’t feel truly authentic for me to wear full color, jewel-adorned, Indian bridal attire because we weren’t having a traditional Hindu ceremony. I also felt like a fraud when I tried on white dresses. I turned to self-reflection for my fashion inspiration. I knew I needed to determine for myself where I sat on the spectrum of Indian to American, and design an outfit that reflected just that. I landed on a dress inspired by an Indian lehenga cut, in Indian raw silks, accented by a rose gold jewelry sets. The creams and golds of the outfit make it feel more western.

We got married on a bright fall day on an alpine lake nestled within a dramatic, glacier-carved mountainscape. We walked down the aisle with the sun gleaming in our eyes while staring into the vivid, turquoise lake. In both Hindu and Jewish traditions, we begin important ceremonies with the lighting of a fire, to serve as a light, represent wisdom, and as a witness to the event. The moment we lit the candle, the sun set behind the mountain range, transforming the entire scene from vivid bright colors to a calming, warm grey. The dramatic change in light and colors was noticed by all and felt like an unplanned spiritual moment in our ceremony.

We time-boxed our wedding planning activities and made sure we had finished all of our tasks a full month before the wedding. This way, we could slide into the festivities leading up to the big day with calm, relaxed attitudes and truly be present in the celebrations. To do this, we suggest using sticky notes to identify everything that needs to get done and leave them on a wall or window of your home, so you stay on task!
