Our friends at BHLDN have been hard at work—during2020—to create their brand new BHLDN spring gown line. Styles include everything from classic sleeveless spring looks, plus sizes, intricate lace details, tea-length, and full-length options. Looking through the collection, each gown is as gorgeous as the next.
As with all their gowns, the BHLDN spring gowns will be available to shop online. As an extra special treat, these will also be available to try on in stores in January! For those folks not ready—or able—to venture back into retail stores to try on gowns, virtual appointments are available to chat with a stylist about the new gowns. BHLDN has truly thought of everything to make buying wedding gowns online easy and seamless.
We could go on, but we’ll let these gorgeous BHLDN spring gowns do the talking.
We weren’t able to fit the whole line into this post—seriously, we tried. To see more, check out the full BHLDN spring gown collection on their website and while you’re there, book an appointment to discuss your look with their stylists.
Joanna and Ryan knew from their first look at the Cloughjordan House that their wedding dreams were about to come true. And with fun accommodations like converted cow sheds and stylish teepees, you wouldn’t say no to a venue like this either. Imagine stepping into a world of color at the most charming home in Ireland—don’t worry if you still can’t picture it, the photos you’re about to see will help.
Top to bottom, this venue was stunning with extras ranging from freshly picked flowers to garden-grown vegetables used in dinner. With the help of the venue’s staff and floral designer House of Flowers, this couple turned their wedding venue into a floral wonderland. If you’re ready to be whisked away to a whimsical location, then keep scrolling and let photos captured by Junebug member Louise Scott take you to your next destination—Ireland.
We fell in love with the venue instantly after watching a wedding video on YouTube. It had rustic charm coupled with a relaxed party and festival vibe. We knew we wanted class and quality without being pretentious and Cloughjordan House just ticked all of the boxes. All of the food served is organic, the vegetables guests eat are homegrown in their garden, and flowers for the tables are freshly picked the morning of the wedding. When we were in Ireland to view the venue in person, we were overwhelmed by the period buildings’ history and aesthetics, coupled with the quirky onsite accommodation options in converted cow sheds and stylish teepees.
A True Irish Celebration
We felt it was really important to us that our guests enjoyed the day. As we live in China, we had many guests traveling to Ireland for our big day. We wanted them to experience the warmth of Irish hospitality, how rich the culture is, and to really show them what a “knees up” Irish celebration looks and feels like!
A Ribbon Bound In Love
The most memorable part of our day was the hand fastening element to our spiritualist ceremony. We had ribbons handmade from the fabric of our late loved ones’ clothes. We held hands and family members placed each ribbon across them, our celebrant then bound our hands by tying the ribbons together. This was an incredibly meaningful experience for us, one that really sealed our love for each other.
Utilizing Global Fashion Inspiration
My bridesmaids wore ochre dresses in different styles that they chose themselves, paired with chunky heeled gold sandals. I wanted them to feel comfortable and confident in what they were wearing as they are all different shapes and sizes. They wore bright red lipstick to contrast the ochre and compliment the colour pop bouquets. The groom and groomsmen wore navy blue suits with floral skinny ties and brown shoes. I designed my wedding dress myself and had it handmade in Shanghai—the inspiration for the embroidered flowers came from Beba’s of Madrid. I chose to keep the shape and style of the dress minimalist so the focus would be on the colour and detail of the floral elements. My veil was covered in white polka dots and sat amidst a beautiful bright floral crown.
A DIY Wedding Extravaganza
It was a DIY extravaganza! I personally designed the save the dates and wedding invitations. All of the signage was handmade using sheets of Perspex from the local builder’s supplies store. My daughter and I hand-painted the typography and brightly coloured backgrounds to match our colour scheme. We also had my father, who is a carpenter, build the stands for the signs out of solid wood. My mother and aunties created guest name cards for the table using fresh lavender from my mother’s garden, twine, and luggage tags.
Simple Wedding Advice From the Couple
Just be you! Stick to the things you love and don’t get caught up with the latest trends. Cut out the gimmicks—your family and friends are there to celebrate you and your love. They don’t need costly entertainment, just good food, good music and plenty of quality alcohol!
Merging two cultures into one wedding may seem impossible. The results are worth it when it creates a gorgeous multi-day affair full of colorful outfits, cultural traditions, and an extensive menu. Taylor and Jay’s California Bougainvillea Estate wedding featured a traditional Nigerian ceremony and a classic American wedding the following day. It was stunning—to say the least.
The couple’s special day included a hand-built altar, hand-sewn table linens, and a wedding dress that Taylor designed with Anomalie–talk about taking a DIY wedding to the next level. Along with the handmade touches, we can’t forget the intricately beaded Ines di Santo necklace that Taylor paired with her crepe gown or the fact that the couple changed into matching luxe gold outfits for the reception. That’s right, there were a total of three outfit changes!
From the grandmothers acting as flower girls to the romantic poolside party, Jessie Jean Photography beautifully captured every detail of this multicultural wedding.
We had a multicultural wedding, and although we had a traditional Nigerian ceremony the day before our official wedding day, we wanted to integrate elements of Nigerian culture and traditions into our American wedding. Nigerian weddings are glamorous, with bold and rich details. We wanted to incorporate that into our wedding aesthetic. We knew that two cultures were coming together and that my family had never been to a Nigerian wedding, and many of Jay’s family had never experienced a traditional American wedding. In blending the two cultures, we crafted a unique and special day.
We looked at a lot of venues–probably about 15 to 20 in total. I grew up in Southern California and we went to Palm Springs every year for Mother’s Day weekend, so the desert has a nostalgic and sentimental place in my heart. We also took our first trip as a couple to Palm Springs and we were regular Coachella attendees, so the desert is a very magical place for us, too. The flow of the wedding ended up being a pretty big determining factor for our venue selection. We liked that we could get married on the lawn with the estate and pond in the background, followed by cocktail hour on the terrace on the opposite side of the water, and then dining in the courtyard around the pool. It felt like guests got to experience all the views the estate offered.
Wedding Advice From The Couple
It is important to prioritize pleasing yourselves as a couple in your decision-making process. Decide what aspects matter most and budget accordingly. It can feel like there is an enormous amount of pressure to meet others’ expectations. Keep in mind that your guests want to have a good time and, more importantly, want you to have a good time. They are not there to judge and critique you. Remembering this helped put us at ease. It can feel like you are on stage. We often related the wedding day experience to a performance or play. Things may not go perfectly, but the reality is that the “audience” (aka your guests) will never know.
The DIY Touches
I found incredible fabric in downtown Los Angeles, and when I saw it, I knew I wanted it for our table runners. My mother then made all of our table runners and table linens. We also designed all of our own day-of signage. Our altar was more or less a DIY project, as well. I saw a similar arch that wasn’t available for our wedding date, so my mom’s friend made our wedding altar as our wedding gift. He now rents it out for any couples getting married in Southern California!
