Utterly Charming Chateau Sonoma Farm Wedding

January 25, 2022 | kailey

From the touching LGBTQ ceremony readings to the pronoun badges distributed during the reception—Erin and Grey’s utterly charming Chateau Sonoma farm wedding was truly heartwarming. Their wedding vision was a celebration that not only incorporated their personalities and unique love story into all the details. They also wanted their big day to be an opportunity to turn their values into meaningful action by supporting women entrepreneurs and hiring an all-female wedding team.

So it was only fitting that they chose the female-run Chateau Sonoma for their celebration—with its stunning scenery, sprawling grounds, gorgeous barn, vintage French charm, laid-back vibe, and great wine. To complete the rustic chic look, vibrant wildflowers were used by florist Wren of Sprout and Stem in bouquets and arrangements. The couple also made stunning individual style statements—with Erin in a timeless wedding gown and Grey in a beige suit and floral tie.

From the heartwarming first look and the fun first dance, to the messy cake smash and the epic pool jump—scroll down to see all of these beautiful moments captured by photographer Apollo Fotographie!

The Couple:

Erin and Grey

The Wedding:

Sonoma, California, United States

An All-Female Wedding Team

I am most proud of the incredible local female vendors we used for the wedding! Wren from Sprout and Stem, Liv from Apollo Fotografie, Perla from Two Mamacitas, and Sarah from Chateau Sonoma were all so supportive, loving, and brought their unique and beautiful personalities to our day. A wedding is a great opportunity to support your local economy and put your money where your heart is!

Hosting A Covid-Friendly Chateau Sonoma Farm Wedding

What was most important was planning a COVID-proof wedding. We didn’t want the stress of having to cancel and reschedule or risk getting anyone sick to celebrate our wedding. To do this, we kept our list small, held the entire event outdoors, and communicated safety measures to our guests for before, during, and after the wedding!

Wedding Planning Advice From The Newlyweds

Stay true to yourselves, keep it authentic and real. During the planning process, we received a lot of messages about the “right” way to do a wedding and it didn’t always fit with our personalities or for a queer wedding. Instead of getting caught up in what is expected of our wedding, we focused on what reflected our love and ourselves—including picking the term Broom for Grey. It was a lot less stressful once we focused on why we were getting married!

An Authentic Wedding Ceremony

It was important for us to acknowledge those who paved the way for us to legally wed as a queer couple in our ceremony. We asked our family friend Shelagh to officiate our wedding and collaborated with her to incorporate quotes from the same-sex marriage supreme court ruling and LGBTQ+ writers and advocates including Glennon Doyle and Maya Angelou. She kept most of the ceremony a secret from us, and we were blown away by how beautifully she captured and validated our love as a queer couple.

Sustainable Wedding Favors

Our wedding favors were mini potted succulents that doubled as place cards for dinner. Erin and Grey made wooden name tags and the florist Wren provided the potted succulents. We wanted a favor that was personal, memorable, and sustainable!

DIY Details With The Help Of Family

Yes, we DIY’d quite a bit with a lot of help from our creative sisters! Erin’s sister Candace designed the name cards, invitations, and signs and Erin and Grey engraved them on a Glowforge. Erin and Grey are civil engineers, and so Grey drafted a map complete with engineering scale on AutoCad for the event. Grey’s sister Emily made a funfetti wedding cake and decorated it with flowers provided by the florist. Erin’s sister Allison did Erin’s hair.

Epic Way To End The Wedding Day

The most memorable part of the day was jumping into the pool! The perfect end to a hot wedding day, plus it made for the perfect photo op.

What to Expect When You’re Wedding Planning in 2022

January 24, 2022 | riley

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years you know the world looks a little different lately. Which means that wedding planning in 2022 has changed, in some good and some challenging ways. At Junebug, we’re here to help you navigate wedding planning like a pro. So no matter when you’re thinking about saying “I do,” here’s what to expect if you’re 2022 wedding planning.

The First Rule of 2022 Wedding Planning

The first rule of wedding planning this year is that there are no rules. Sure, wedding rules are all meant to be broken in other years. But this year it’s easier than ever to make your wedding look however you want it to.

Want to elope in a colorful dress? Do it. Considering hosting at a totally unique venue? This is your chance. Every wedding is different but they’re especially different when you can question every tradition you’ve ever seen and incorporate new ideas you’ve never heard of. It’s an exciting time to be planning your wedding!

Wedding Vendors Are Strained

Planning a wedding in 2022 does come with its own challenges though. The biggest challenge is that two year’s worth of lockdowns and restrictions on gatherings are being lifted. So, two year’s worth of weddings are happening now. The time of year typically considered “peak wedding season” didn’t ever end in 2021—your vendors are likely still in the throes of a very busy season.

This means they have less availability. Communicating with them is also going to be a little bit harder. It’s more important than ever to have an expert wedding planner that you trust with your vision and your budget. Wedding planners will help manage your budget to ensure you can splurge on your priorities and cut costs where it makes sense.

If you sincerely can’t afford a wedding planner, make the most of all of your vendor communications by creating a top notch mood board to ensure your team is all on the same page. Gather the inspiration you find online and create your mood board to share with your photographer, officiant, florist, and the team behind your wedding cake.

Junebug Tip:

Inflation and rising costs worldwide mean that pricing is going to increase everywhere. From your decor to your wedding vendors, keep your realistic budget nearby through every step of planning.

Many Venues are Fully Booked

The first step in the wedding planning process is locking down your venue and wedding date. Depending on your priority, you can go about choosing your wedding venue in two different ways—based on your date or based on your location.

  • The wedding date matters most — If your wedding date is the most important aspect of your wedding, you’ll likely need to get creative with your venue and reach out to multiple locations. Your dream venue can be anywhere so if you initially strike out don’t panic. Add your favorite restaurants, Airbnbs, airport hangars, and other unique locations to your potential venue list
  • The location matters most — If you’ve been dreaming of tying the knot at a specific location and no other spot will do, reach out and ask for their availability. Date options for a specific location might be limited and you’ll need to get creative. For example, if they’re very booked for weekend dates, consider hosting a brunch wedding or exchanging vows on a weeknight

Enter The Dream Team

After your venue and date are confirmed it’s time to build out your wedding vendor dream team. Start with your planner, photographer, and videographer. Then work with your planner to find your florist, caterer, DJ or live band, and rentals.

What If No Wedding Vendors Are Available in Your Area

There’s no need to panic if you can’t instantly find your dream vendor. Most wedding vendors love to travel! If you’re unable to find the right fit where you’re getting married, contact vendors in nearby areas and ask if they travel. For example, let’s say you’re getting married in a remote area and there isn’t a local wedding planner in our vendor directory. Instead of giving up, focus on finding vendors that fit your style then ask if they travel.

Once you find your venue and confirm your date. Get your planner, photographer, and videographer in order. Then it’s time to announce your wedding to your guests.

We’ve done the hard work for you. Find expert wedding vendors here.

Send Your Save The Dates Earlier

Generally, couples should expect to send their Save the Dates six to eight months before their wedding. But the couples planning in 2022 should send them a bit earlier. Travel protocols are evolving constantly these days. Because of that, it’s best to let your guests know when and where your wedding will take place in time for them to budget their travel expenses, their wedding guest attire, and gifts as soon as possible. For couples planning their weddings right now, plan to send your Save the Dates eight months before your wedding.

The wedding planning process looks a little different in 2022 but we’re here to help every step of the way—along with your wedding vendor team. Learn more about the rest of your 2022 wedding planning timeline here and then start your vendor outreach in our carefully curated vendor directory.

Intentional and Gorgeous $10k Greenhouse Wedding

January 24, 2022 | riley

Hosting a wedding in the middle of winter and on a budget doesn’t mean that it has to be anything less than magical. Amanda and Chris’ $10k greenhouse wedding is as luscious as it is warm and welcoming—and they pulled it off without breaking the bank.

From the fantastic florals to Amanda’s stunning Martina Liana gown, this is one $10k wedding you won’t want to miss. But don’t just take our word for it. Their beautiful photos—captured by Junebug photographer, Elle Studios—are below for you to see more!

The Couple:

Amanda + Chris

The Wedding:
The Barn on the Bridge, Collegeville, Pennsylvania, United States

How To Start Your Wedding Budget

Chris and I knew we would be funding our wedding entirely out of our own pockets. With our costs of day-to-day life, we knew we had to be realistic about our budget. We also didn’t want to put a financial strain on ourselves or rack up tons of debt. So we sat down, did a little research, and came up with a budget based on our findings and what we felt comfortable with.

Working Within Their Budget Priorities

Chris would say food and drinks and I would say photography, so I would say those two walked hand in hand for us. Because we were prioritizing food we had an open bar and a formal sit-down dinner for our guests.

Be Proud Of Staying In Budget

We’re so proud that we managed to stay within our wedding budget and we really managed to tie personality into so many different parts of the day. Our wedding was really about us and not just having pretty things.

Advice For Couples With Similar Budgets

The most important piece of advice we can share is that you shouldn’t sweat the small stuff. Decide early on what you can’t live without and build off of that. Your friends and family are just excited to celebrate the both of you that they will never remember every little detail you think you need to have. If you’re handy, definitely make as much as you can with what you already have, it saves a ton of money on decor!

The Best Advice—Regardless Of Your Budget

Enjoy the process of planning your wedding! So many couples get hung up on every single detail or minor setback that they don’t even enjoy the planning process. That was such an enjoyable part for us. We loved the planning.

Personalizing Their Greenhouse Wedding Ceremony

We worked very closely with our officiant and wrote our own vows to personalize our ceremony. It was very personal and I’m pretty sure our vows made the entire room cry.

Charity Donations In Lieu of Favors

Instead of giving out wedding favors we actually donated to two different charities (Wounded Warrior Project and Puppies Behind Bars) in our guests’ honor. Both programs directly benefit veterans and that’s important to us because my husband is a Marine Corps veteran.

DIY Decor With Special Details

We basically DIY’d everything as far as decor. My husband and I are super into archery and we wanted to work details about that hobby into our decor. For our escort cards, I made faux arrows that we put onto a target that we made together. The target and arrows were all painted in our wedding colors and it was perfect. Our guests really loved that personalized detail. Because I have experience in graphic design I also made all of our signage.

Working with Junebug Photographer Elle Studios

Our photographer was amazing. I’ve worked with her several other times and choosing her for our big day was really a no-brainer. She carried my dress, my veil, and welcomed all my chaos. I honestly just let her do her thing without a shot list and trusted that she would deliver. That’s exactly what she did. She took this one photo of us walking down the aisle and we were both just all smiles. It’s one of my absolute favorites. She captured this purely candid moment that really set the tone for the rest of the night.

Any Regrets?

We have no regrets! It was even better than we could have imagined.
