Totally Unique Baseball Field Wedding

January 22, 2022 | riley

Kevin and Emily initially planned to get married at a museum, but when the pandemic nixed those plans, they reevaluated what would be the best wedding venue for them and got creative. Without realizing that the change might actually have been meant to be, ultimately, they chose the Truist Field—where they had their first date. Switching to a new venue a month before the big day was no easy feat but the couple–along with their planner Caroline of Mint To Be Weddings–were able to pull off an amazing and totally unique baseball field wedding.

The couple exchanged their vows on the home plate as friends and family seated in the bleachers cheered them on. And their beautiful tented rooftop reception featured romantic drapery, dreamy string lighting, and gorgeous cascading foliage with a mix of deep red and white florals. Not to mention the fireworks display against the Uptown Charlotte skyline–a wonderful way to end the night.

From the out-of-the-box venue to the clever and fun ways this couple incorporated their shared passions into their big day—Junebug members The Stewarts Roam captured all the unforgettable moments that will help you create a celebration that is uniquely yours during these extraordinary times.

Last-Minute Change of Plans That Turned Into A Blessing

Having the wedding in October 2020 presented a few challenges. Due to the ongoing and ever-changing COVID-19 regulations, we were forced to adjust many aspects of our wedding just a little over a month before the big day. Our previous venue was more than accommodating, but we would have given up too much to have the wedding we wanted. What started as a crazy idea became something bigger than we could have ever originally planned when we were presented with a wonderful opportunity to get married at the place where we had our first date. Grace and the Truist Field staff seamlessly worked with our previous vendors and our planner Caroline of Mint To Be Weddings to put on a wedding that was beyond what we could have hoped for.

A Baseball Field Wedding That Beautifully Breaks Tradition

We personalized our big day in a few different ways. We chose our own music—Kevin walking out to Pump up the Jam and his groomsmen walking out to Jump Around. I am an avid Pink Floyd fan, so my father and I walked out to an instrumental version of Brain Damage—which I thought was a little tongue-in-cheek given that we were walking across the grass.  We also had one of our very good friends marry us. He and Kevin went to rival colleges, so it provided lovely commentary throughout the ceremony, ending with Kevin and I reciting our own vows.  After we changed venues, we talked to the baseball staff and they were able to print tickets for us on official ticket stubs that we were able to send out with new information prior to the wedding.

Working With The Stewarts Roam

When we met The Stewarts back in early 2019, we knew immediately that’s who we wanted. They were so fun, down to earth, and their photography approach was what we were looking for. As the day approached, we discussed further some specific photos that Kevin and I wanted. On our wedding day, they blended in with everyone else and were able to capture everything seamlessly as it was happening. When the sun went down, and I wanted some night photos, they were all about getting some more photos—whatever we wanted to do, they were all for it. When we got our photos, it was like reliving our wedding.

A Fun Wedding Mascot To Get The Party Started

Kevin is a HUGE UNC Tar Heels Fan. He graduated from there a few years ago, and I have always made fun of him for his passionate obsession. We always joked about having Ramses show up at the wedding due to his undying love. Fortunately, Kevin’s sister was a cheerleader at UNC and put me in contact with Ramses. After dinner and toasts, Ramses came out to kick off the dancing, and it was amazing! It was definitely a surprise–as only myself, my parents, his sister, and his mother knew. It was a great way to kick off the reception and keep it fun with the smaller number of people. It also helped that we had a lot of NC State fans there to antagonize him.

Wedding Trends for 2022

January 20, 2022 | kailey

After a year full of unpredictability and re-scheduled weddings, celebrations in 2022 are here to make a statement. This year’s couples will steer away from tradition and instead prioritize unique details. From bold colors to epic fashion, here are just a few show-stopping wedding trends we are looking forward to seeing in 2022.

1. Bold, Rainbow Color Palettes

Goodbye neutrals, hello vibrant color palettes. We’ve seen neutral colors take center stage year over year, but that won’t be the case in 2022. This year’s trending colors are filled with bold hues that symbolize bright, new beginnings.

2. Customized Neon Sign Decor

Color palettes won’t be the only thing lighting up the new year. Couples will be brightening up 2022 by adding customized neon signs in their ceremony and reception spaces. The best part about this bold wedding decor element is that it doubles as a keepsake. These signs ll last long beyond your wedding day.

3. Orchids Are The Way To Go

Orchids represent elegance, romance, and are a true celebration of rare love. With unique colors and structure, including this flower in any element of your wedding decor or bouquet is sure to wow your guests.

4. Virtual Save-the-dates

You only have one chance to make a first impression. That’s why save-the-dates are so important. They set the stage for your big day and get guests excited for what’s to come. In 2022 we see paperless save-the-dates become increasingly popular to save money and time.

5. Colorful Wedding Day Attire

Bright and bold are two words we’ve used to describe everything to expect in 2022. And wedding day attire is no exception. Want to rock a pink suit? Do it! Dreaming of a purple wedding dress? We’re in full support. From colorful suites to non-white wedding gowns, we expect to see it all in the new year.

6. Short Dresses

Late last year short wedding dresses hit the wedding scene and we don’t see this wedding trend going away anytime soon. With micro-weddings and elopement-styled celebrations staying popular in 2022, short wedding gowns will continue to give floor-length gowns a run for their money. The best part of rocking shorter wedding dresses is that it allows other elements to shine like your accessories, shoes, and veils.

7. More Unique Hair Accessories

Natural, up-do, braids—there are many choices when it comes to your wedding day hairstyle. But in 2022, we see hair accessories taking priority over hairstyles. Keep your eye out for hair accessories that are sure to add personality and capture attention. So get ready to leave the bridal crowns and hairpins from 2021 behind. Instead trying out new wedding trends like this pearl beaded hairstyle.

8. Goodbye Wedding Gowns, Hello Jumpsuits

Comfort or style? With wedding jumpsuits you can have both. While wearing a traditional white gown may still be a favorite of many, we’ve seen more soon-to-be newlyweds choosing alternatives like jumpsuits and pantsuits. This is the year for unconventional couples to shine!

9. Veils, Trains, and Capes—Oh My!

Speaking of veils, they’re officially back! Wedding veils, tains, and capes are a timeless bridal accessory. With a variety of different lengths and styles, adding a veil can completely transform your wedding look. You can’t go wrong with this classic wedding hair accessory—its 2022 come back is sure to prove it.

10. Destination Celebrations

People are ready to travel and that’ll be reflected in weddings throughout the year. In 2022, more couples will be looking to ditch tradition and exchange “I do’s” in an adventurous way. This is especially true when it comes to their wedding location. And we can’t think of a more romantic way to tie the knot than with a destination wedding

Sophisticated and Elegant Beach Wedding

January 19, 2022 | kailey

Paris and Jayson always knew that they wanted a destination wedding. Though the process wasn’t without its challenges, the couple—along with their planner and florist Moni Junco— had the will and fierce resolve to bring to life the big day they envisioned. In the end everything worked out perfectly. Their sophisticated and elegant beach wedding at the One&Only Mandarina was a beautiful representation of everything they loved and cared about.

Surrounded by breathtaking views of the mountains, rainforest, and the Pacific Coastthe ultra-luxurious beach sanctuary at the One&Only Mandarina was the otherworldly setting for their ceremony. Their stunning reception at the Canalan Beach Club had the perfect beachfront views and gorgeous airy florals.

From the breath-work workshop and super-personal ceremony to the locally sourced, clean dinner menu—every aspect of their special day truly was a reflection of who they are. If you’re a nature-loving couple whose idea of the perfect wedding is equal parts romance and luxury, these beautiful photos captured by Junebug members Memorybox Photography are the  inspiration you’ve been looking for.

An Elegant Beach Wedding at One&Only Mandarina

We actually had two ceremonies, one in Louisianawhere I am from, and then the other in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. We specifically decided to do the wedding at One&Only Mandarina because of the beautiful location and also the level of service and experience we knew the One&Only brand would deliver. Having a destination wedding can be stressful because there are so many things you can’t control very much from afar. That’s why choosing a venue that you really trust is important. We knew if all else failed, One&Only would deliver a beautiful, memorable experience for everyone. And they certainly did!

Creating A Great Wedding Guest Experience

The thing we cared about most was bringing our loved ones together and creating a memorable experience for everyone. Because of Covid, we wanted our guests to feel safe and comfortable. This reinforced our decision to have a wedding in a location that was almost entirely outdoors and where nature could be a major focus. We also wanted our guests to feel like they had the freedom to enjoy themselves as they pleased and make the most out of their trip to Mexico. We didn’t want guests to feel like the weekend was over-planned. Everyone’s idea of a vacation is different, so we wanted to leave space for people to make the weekend their own.

Revamping Wedding Traditions

First and foremost, planning any wedding during Covid is something to be proud of! But when I look back to our wedding, the thing I am most proud of is how much our wedding really felt like us. We spent time and energy on the things that mattered most to us and let go of attachment to traditions that didn’t resonate with us. For example, having a big wedding party wasn’t something we cared about, especially because we were having to be super mindful of the number of guests due to Covid.

Personalizing Their Ceremony

The other thing that really made the ceremony personal was our officiant. Her name is Steffy and she is the in-house wellness person. Two days before our ceremony we asked Steffy if she would be willing to officiate our wedding. We knew this wasn’t something she had necessarily done before, but we trusted her and just knew she was the perfect person. To our delight—Steffy said yes to officiating the wedding and it couldn’t have gone better. She made our ceremony so special, finding ways to incorporate our loved ones that had passed and those family members who could not be present due to COVID—which she did with such grace and honor.

Locally Sourced Custom Wedding Favors

Our wedding favors included custom bags with a logo we created as well as these beautiful leather slippers and handmade soaking bath salts. We loved that they were not only custom but that they were made by local artists from Mexico.

Working With Junebug Members Memorybox Photography

Memorybox Photography were incredible! They are friends of Moni and graciously agreed to photograph our wedding after a last-minute cancellation from another photographer—literally a week before our wedding. They were so sweet, very willing to listen, and collaborate on ideas. They made us feel completely comfortable and were an overall joy to be around. They are super real, down to earth, kind souls. They are the type of people anyone would be lucky to be friends with or work with. We absolutely love the pictures from our wedding day. I had high expectations and they totally exceeded them.

Wedding Planning Advice From The Bride

Wedding planning looks and feels different for everyone. I received so much advice and I had this expectation of what it was supposed to feel like to plan our wedding. I found myself constantly feeling like I wasn’t doing a good enough job or that it was harder for me than it should have been. What I eventually learned is that it’s different for everyone, and not every bride is going to enjoy the planning process as much as the next person. If you’re a bride that isn’t obsessed with planning every detail and if you’re just busy, like myself, the best thing you can do is find vendors that you trust. If you find someone you trust for one thing, chances are they will have great recommendations for vendors outside of their area of expertise. Another big piece of advice, in wedding planning and life, is to always ask for what you want, even if it is outside the box. The worst thing that can happen is you get told no.
