Get Inspired by These 9 Unique Ceremony Spaces

February 23, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Do you ever feel like reception spaces get all the love, while ceremony spaces are where the magic really happens? We love a stunning reception venue as much as the next blogger, but it’s the place where you say “I do” that we often find most remarkable. Because we like to shake things up a bit, we’re sharing nine of our favorite unique ceremony spaces. From a glass greenhouse to a moonlit stage to an empty swimming pool, get ready to be wowed by these amazing spots for tying the knot!

1. Daiane and Steven’s Atlanta Treehouse Ceremony

photos: Vic Bonvicini Photography, venue: Atlanta Treehouse; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Daiane and Steven said “I do” in an intimate ceremony that took place in a treehouse — yes, an actual treehouse! Each one of their guests circled around a tall tree on a wooden platform suspended above the forest floor, making for one of the most unique ceremony spaces we’ve ever seen.

2. Kristen and Phillip’s Chalk Drawing Aisle

photos: Brandon Kidd Photography, venue: 440 Seaton, event planning: Innovate Marketing Group; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Kristen and Phillip were inspired by Pixar’s Up when planning their wedding at 440 Seaton in Los Angeles. Event planners Innovate Marketing Group gave the couple’s ceremony a major statement with a faux-aisle runner created with chalk art that read “Youth, Hope, Love” — all themes from the beloved film. We love that a little creativity can take a traditional wedding venue and make it your own!

3. Mara and Thomas’ Intimate Library I Do’s

photos: Viktoria Samoilova, venue: Hotel de Sèze, event planning: Laura Dova Weddings, event styling: Weday’s; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: The groom actually pulled this gorgeous library ceremony at Hotel de Sèze together, with help, of course, from the talented Laura Dova Weddings and Weday’s. Is there anything more romantic than tying the knot in a room full of books?

4. Siobhan and Eddy’s Empty Swimming Pool Wedding

photos: Millie Benbow Photography, venue: Victoria Baths; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: The UK is filled with amazing venues, but one of our favorites will also be the Victoria Baths. As you can see, this space is quite literally an empty swimming pool! Seeing a bride walk down the swimming lane as an aisle never gets old.

5. Kayla and Mark’s Natural Science Museum Ceremony

photos: Leighanne Herr, venue: Houston Museum of Natural Science; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Kayla and Mark are crazy about the Gem and Mineral Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science — so much that they decided to get married there! The dark wine-colored carpet and walls give this space a gorgeously moody affect, which the bridal party imitated in their wedding day wear. We think Kayla and Mark’s love shines even brighter than those gemstones!

6. Emily and Stephen’s Moonlit Ceremony

photos: Ann-Kathrin Koch, venue: De La Warr Pavilion; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Emily and Stephen said “I do” in front of a dramatic night sky backdrop, complete with a crescent moon and cafe light stars hanging from the rafters of  De La Warr Pavilion. A little bit theatrical, a whole lot romantic, we’ve never been able to get over the cool setup from Emily and Stephen’s ceremony.

7. Rita and André’s Glass Greenhouse Ceremony

photos: Wednesday and October, venue: Rosemary Hill; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Greenhouse weddings are definitely trending as of late (have you seen our roundup of greenhouse venues?), but Rita and André’s South African greenhouse wedding has that extra something special. The glass greenhouse at Rosemary Hill is exactly what we picture when we think of an authentic greenhouse, which gave their ceremony a natural vibe that totally fit Rita and André as a couple.

8. Martha and Tony’s Outdoor Art Museum Wedding

photos: Valerie Denise Photos, venue: Noah Purifoy Outdoor Art Museum; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Martha and Tony tied the knot in Joshua Tree, but the scene looked quite a bit different from most of the Joshua Tree weddings we’ve seen. Instead of saying “I do” among the notable desert trees, the creative couple opted for the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Art Museum, where they exchanged vows in front of unique cement structures and eye-catching sculptures.

9. Stephanie and Shane’s Grand Entrance at Aria

photos: Cadence and Eli Photography, venue: Aria, event planning: Ambiente Group; see more from this wedding here!

What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Minneapolis’ Aria is one of our favorite venues because it can truly transform to fit the couple. To meet Stephanie and Shane’s needs, Aria became the set of a circus. Stephanie flew into her ceremony on a lyra hoop (does it get more unique than that? We’re not sure it does!) where she and Shane stood atop circus-themed pedestals surrounded by blossoming trees in the industrial space. Your ceremony venue is everything you make of it!

Downtown London Wedding at Brixton East 1871

February 23, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Juliet and Laimonas’ trendy wedding at Brixton East 1871 is the ultimate wedding inspiration for foodies and interior design fanatics alike! The couple’s reception décor included DIY projects featuring reclaimed bike wheels, hand-poured concrete blocks, and dinosaur figurines to reflect their quirky, vintage style. In addition to super cool design and a multicultural food menu, the couple curated the perfect music playlist to punctuate every important moment of their wedding. Juliet and Laimonas also happen to be wedding photographers, so it’s only natural that they asked the talented photographers of The Hendrys to capture their day!

The Couple:

Juliet and Laimonas

The Wedding:

Carlton House Terrace & Brixton East 1871, London, England

From the groom: Waiting for Juliet at the altar was the most memorable moment. We didn’t know what each other was going to wear so the anticipation was crazy. We picked the song a year before our wedding and planned it second for second, at exactly one minute she would walk in and I would see her reflection in the huge ornate mirror in front of me. A moment I’ll never forget.

Processional: Jamie xx – Loud Places
Register Signing: Blur – The Universal
Recessional: Arcade Fire – Ready To Start
Last Dance: Boney M – Sunny

Our advice: Get help. As much help as you can get. We did a LOT of DIY. We were incredibly specific and our venue was dry hire so right down the forks were decisions meticulously made by us both. Luckily we have the same taste in pretty much everything so there wasn’t any disagreements. We both worked really hard, it was really a 50/50 input but it would have been nice to have family closer by to join in. We were in our venue until 9pm trying to sort out as much as we could the night before!

Our florists brought our ideas to life, but the night before the wedding we suspended a bike wheel from the beams in the ceiling and intertwined some foliage the suspended a copper mobile from that to hang our table plan from. We printed our own table plans using recycled paper and picking a font we loved. We chose our favourite films as table names and each card had a quote from the film above.

We spray painted a ton of animals and dinosaurs gold. This probably took the longest as it wasn’t as simple as we assumed, but all turned out well in the end. We sourced and spray painted old bike wheels.

We met with so many caterers and decided to pick someone a little different as we were bored with many of the options available for wedding menus. We found Salt & Dry who I cannot praise enough. Picking our menu was really tough, we’re such foodies and between us we’re a mix of Anglo Indian, Italian and Lithuanian so we wanted to incorporate a little of everything, this is quite difficult, hence why we didn’t.

Starter: Tiradito of salmon with coconut & green chilli sambal & mustard
Mains: Whole tandoori spatchcocked poussin or Keralan egg curry, Green Banana Khadi, Chana Masala, Tara Dhal, Kachumber
Dessert: Pistachio & Cardamom Doughnuts with Honey Syrup, Curry Leaf Ice Cream

The Wedding Team:

Photography – The Hendrys
Event Planning – Revelry Events
Ceremony Venue – Carlton House Terrace
Reception Venue – Brixton East 1871
Floral Design – JamJar Flowers
Catering – Salt & Dry
Cake – The Cake Parlour
