After more than a decade together, Sophie and Aled knew exactly what mattered most for their wedding—time with loved ones, heartfelt details, and a setting that reflected their love of nature. Their Plas Dinam wedding in the Welsh countryside brought it all together beautifully. Set against the Cambrian Mountains, this meaningful celebration reflected their 12-year journey together with intentional design choices, deeply personal touches, and an entire weekend spent surrounded by the people they love most.
Finding the perfect venue was one of the most challenging and important decisions. After considering a destination wedding, the couple realized that having their loved ones together mattered more than even the guarantee of sunshine. “We wanted a weekend where everyone could park up on Friday and relax until Sunday,” they shared. That search led them to Plas Dinam Country House.
“It was a rainy February day when we visited, and we immediately fell in love,” Sophie recalled. “We knew if we loved it in the rain, it would be perfect no matter the weather.”
They especially loved the venue’s sustainability focus and the magical glass-roofed stables—ideal for their vision of a weekend-long celebration without constant room flips. The mountains, the meadows, and the vibe all felt right.
What We Love About This Plas Dinam Wedding:

Balancing DIY Wedding Planning With Vendor Support
As a project manager, Sophie took the reins when it came to logistics—“It felt like working two jobs!”—but every decision was a joint one. “There are certain expectations with weddings, but if it didn’t fit us, we either skipped it or tweaked it.”
Instead of following trends, the couple focused on the things they knew they’d treasure forever: great music, meaningful moments, and practical yet elegant choices. They were hands-on throughout the planning process, but leaned on trusted vendors, many of whom were recommended by their Plas Dinam wedding coordinator, to help bring their ideas to life.

Strategic Wedding Spending
For Sophie and Aled, style didn’t mean going overboard. Aled wore a classic navy Ted Baker suit, while Sophie stunned in a sleek dress with a pleated bodice and column skirt. Her accessories, pearls inspired by Aled’s birthstone, were a playful nod to her love of details.
When it came to budget, they prioritized what mattered most: photography, videography, rings, food, and music. “We wanted an amazing weekend, but also had plans for a month-long honeymoon,” they said. “We stayed practical and only added things if they felt right.”
Their florist created stunning meadow-inspired arrangements that were reused throughout the day for both impact and sustainability. “She even came the next morning to turn the flowers into bouquets for our guests to take home!”

Planning an Outdoor Ceremony With a Backup Plan
One of the most memorable parts of their Plas Dinam wedding was the outdoor ceremony with an unforgettable twist. “It started raining just as I sat in the makeup chair,” Sophie shared. “But Aled made the brave call to go ahead outside. Just as the bridal doors opened, the clouds parted and the sun came out. It felt like a movie.”
Sophie walked down the aisle to “Yellow” by Coldplay, a meaningful song from their time together. Her grandmother read “Like a River” by Whitney Hanson—something Aled had suggested be read by someone in a long, happy marriage. “It was perfect,” they said.
To keep things lighthearted, they even added a twist to the ceremony: a surprise ring bearer! “We weren’t precious about who held the rings,” they said. Their venue coordinator secretly taped the ring box under one of the guest seats. “It was fun seeing everyone scramble to find it!”

Adding Meaningful Touches Without Overcomplication
“We wanted everything to feel deeply personal without everyone in tears all day,” Sophie explained. And they truly delivered.
From a fish-and-chip welcome party on Friday night to the heartfelt thank-you letters waiting at every guest’s seat, each moment was designed with love and intention. “We spent hours writing those notes. We wanted every person to know how much they meant to us. Seeing their reactions was so special.”

Why Multi-Day Celebrations Are Worth It
The weekend unfolded with joyful moments: custom wedding newspapers delivered by the groomsmen, group singalongs around the piano, and dancing into the early hours in pajamas. Their first dance was to “Kids” by Ben Rector—a song that captured their journey since meeting at 16.
During the reception, heartfelt speeches balanced with humor made the room erupt in laughter and tears. Aled even surprised Sophie by recreating a longtime inside joke from his triathlon races by posing for a proud photo during his speech. “He turned something silly into something so emotional. It was magic.”
Even unexpected moments—like getting drenched in a sudden downpour after the speeches—were embraced with joy. “It made for great photos!”

Takeaways From a Thoughtfully Planned Wedding Weekend
When asked what made their Plas Dinam wedding so special, Sophie and Aled agreed: “Everything reflected us—from the food and music to our vows and outfits. We just focused on what we love and didn’t stress over the rest.”
Their advice to future couples? “Do what feels right for you. Stay focused on each other and don’t leave each other’s side. You want your memories of the day to be shared ones.”
