Rich Tones Transformed SoDo Park for This Moody Romantic Wedding

Katie and Rayce’s moody romantic wedding at SoDo Park in downtown Seattle was urban wedding goals from beginning to end! Kaleb Norman James Design helped bring the couple’s vision to life with rich-toned floral arrangements, vintage details, moody lighting, and dinner party-style dining that created the most romantic feel inside the industrial-meets-rustic space. The couple treated their guests to a feast of Seattle’s best seafood created by Herban Feast Catering and sent each guest home with a variety of custom cookies baked by Morfey’s Cake to represent every important location throughout their relationship. Katie’s chic Gretchen Dawley dress and natural makeup and hairstyle were made even better with the custom leather jacket Rayce gifted her, and his two-tone, velvet-accented look was equally exceptional. Jenna Bechtholt Photography had so much to capture, from the intricate decor to the pure joy the bride and groom were exuding all day, and she totally nailed it!

The Wedding:

SoDo Park, Seattle, Washington

We were going for romantic, moody vibes. We wanted the evening to feel intimate and have our guests feel like they were attending a rad dinner party. We wanted everything to reflect a downtown wedding and really show off the city. To create this feel we went for long tables, lots of mood lighting, rich-toned floral and velvet everywhere. A major theme of the wedding was figs. We loved the color and the idea of incorporating them into the wedding. So figs made appearances everywhere! They were on the wedding invites, on the tables, on the cake etc. It was a cool element that created our color palette. The other major theme was velvet. We had velvet lounge furniture, velvet runners for the table, velvet vow books, and velvet shoes!

We both wore velvet shoes, which were awesome! We really went for the velvet theme! Rayce even had a velvet bow tie. He pieced together every aspect of his outfit with a custom tailor to create one clean unique look and I had my dress custom made for me. Creating the dress with the designer was one of the coolest experiences. I flew back and forth from LA a few times leading up to the wedding. At each appointment we would make adjustments, cut fabric, pick out lace, you name it, we did it live. It was so cool and the final product is an amazing dress made just for me!

Rayce got me a custom jacket that said Mrs. Kopach on it. I loved it and it really made me feel like myself on the wedding day. I wore it in a hand full of photos and they turned out to be some of my favorites. I had a book made for Rayce and wrote what I love about him in it for 100 days each day leading up to the wedding.

We loved our ceremony and are so happy we wrote our own vows. Reading my vows and hearing his was the highlight of the entire evening and something we now reflect on. That feeling was priceless and the words were so meaningful!

I have never laughed so much in my life than I did with Jenna Bechtholt Photography. We did our engagement shoot with her, which really helped us get to know each other. By the wedding day, we were completely comfortable with her! Not only is she really easy going but she is super fun to hang out with. She fit right in on the wedding day, which I think is important. It was a great experience and she is beyond talented. She did a great job capturing some of the sweetest candid moments. They are priceless!

We gave our guests personalized wedding cookies that were designed based off of places that are meaningful to us. For example, we both went to school at the University of Arizona, so some of the cookies were shaped like a cactus or the AZ state shape with a heart in Tucson. Other examples were a Starbucks-shaped cookie for Seattle (where I grew up), a sailboat-shaped cookie for San Diego (where Rayce grew up), a pizza-shaped cookie for Chicago (where Rayce was born), and a sombrero-shaped cookie for Mexico (where we met).

We have a few pieces of advice for engaged couples: 1.) Have a welcome party where everyone is invited. We said all our “hellos” there and didn’t worry about making the rounds on the wedding day. This way we had no worries or a “to do” list during the wedding and got to enjoy every moment. 2.) Include something that makes you feel like “you” on your wedding day. Rayce got me that leather jacket, and I instantly felt like myself. I loved that thing! 3.) Don’t leave anything to do on your wedding morning. Trust me, it won’t get done! 4.) Get the entire wedding party together before the wedding day. Rayce and I hosted a night at an Airbnb and cooked everyone all dinner as a thank you. It was the perfect way for everyone to get to know each other, drink some wine, and feel completely comfortable with each other on the wedding day!

Our first dance song was “When You’re Around” by Cris Cab, which was our song from college. We used to play it while cooking in the kitchen and driving in the car on road trips. The only twist is that it is a reggae song, so we took it to our band and they made a jazzy remix for our first dance. They totally made it their own and rocked it! It’s definitely our new favorite version!

Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome was the Perfect Wedding Destination for This Art and History Loving Couple

June 8, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Is there a more romantic place to elope than the heart of Italy? After seeing these incredible photos Quince & Mulberry Studios captured from Sarah and Jack’s elopement in Piazza del Campidoglio, we’re keen to say no! The couple said “I do” inside the iconic red-hued Wedding Hall, which was designed by Michaelangelo himself, and then weaved their way through the streets of Rome, stopping for photo ops at all the historic sites, scenic overlooks, and even a pastry shop for a mid-afternoon treat. Once the sun had set, they joined their group of nearest and dearest for an intimate dinner at La Veranda, followed by a few final romantic photos in the moonlight. We simply adore that Sarah chose a black and white Manning Cartell dress in place of a traditional wedding gown and that Jack chose a classic black suit from George & King that he personalized with handmade cufflinks from his bride. Although the details were minimal, everything about this destination elopement had an air of timeless elegance.

The Couple:

Sarah and Jack

The Wedding:

Piazza del Campidoglio and La Veranda, Rome, Italy

We had planned on going to Rome for our honeymoon and then just decided to get married while we were there instead. I had been before and had fallen in love with it, Jack loves history and I love art, so it was the perfect city for us. Both of us hate being the center of attention, so we wanted a quick ceremony that would still be legally recognized in Australia, to avoid any paperwork or additional ceremonies when we returned home. The fact that the Hall was designed by Michelangelo definitely helped make our decision so easy!

I made the invitations myself. I drew out the details and transferred it all into photoshop. We were doing most things on a budget, and so we printed them out and cut them ourselves, wrapped some twine around them and hand delivered them to our family members with a sprig of rosemary. I also made four sets of black clay cufflinks for the men of the day, Jack, his brother, my uncle and my dad. It’s nice to have some things that are meaningful, that you can keep forever.

My dress was from Manning Cartell. It was on sale when I bought it, so it was definitely done on a budget, which was perfect for us. I walked past it when I was out with Jack and he stayed outside while I tried it on. It was a spur-of-the-moment purchase and totally unexpected because I was not out shopping for a wedding dress — and I actually already had one! I was really unsure about the one I had, so when I saw this one, I just had a feeling that I had to buy it. I really did not want anything over the top, with lace or beads. I just wanted a simple dress that had something a little bit different and non-traditional about it. I ended up having to get it lined with silk so that it was warm enough for a European winter and then grabbed a black woolen coat to wear over the top. I tried to buy things from shops that I would usually go to and not stray just for a special occasion. I always buy my shoes from Wittner, and I am obsessed with Dinosaur Designs jewelry.

The only thing we tried to do that was really traditional, we completely failed at. We spent the night before the wedding apart, so we didn’t see each other before the ceremony. However, being a romantic, Jack came around in the morning to leave me a rose. My maid of honor was apparently meant to open the door, but she was still asleep, so I opened the door thinking it was a delivery and we saw each other. It was one of those moments where we realized we had failed and laughed about it, but in retrospect, seeing each other for that one minute was so lovely and reassuring. We definitely wouldn’t change it, if we could go back.

Our photographer, Kate, had photographed our engagement party and our close friends’ wedding, so we knew how she operated. She is honestly just amazing! We hate posed photographs, and Kate had a way of putting us at ease and taking beautiful snapshots of candid moments in time. She’s captured so many moments, from laughs and tears with our family to those little stolen moments with each other. She made us want to have a party every week just so that we could spend more time with her!

Our favorite moment of the day was honestly probably between when we stopped for beer and cannoli or when Andreas (our driver) pulled the bottle of prosecco out of the bonnet. We sat in the Fiat at the top of Rome (best view ever, by the way) and had a glass and just enjoyed being together. It was quite a whirlwind of a day, so it was nice to just stop, feel a little more normal, and just enjoy the beautiful place we were in — and obviously the food and drink!

This Traditional Atlanta Wedding Took on a Moody Vibe for Its Ansley Golf Club Reception

June 8, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Rachel and Will’s wedding at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta proves, once again, that winter is the ideal season for a glamorous wedding! Rachel combined her ethereal cold-shoulder wedding dress from The Sentimentalist with voluminous waves, natural makeup, and a vibrant free-form bouquet created by Amy Osaba Design for a look that was as sophisticated as it was flawless. We also love that she added an emerald green faux fur coat to complement the bridesmaids’ velvet dresses as the chilly winter air set in and that Will chose classic black tuxedos for him and his guys to continue with the sophisticated vibe. Brandi Sisson Photography was on hand to capture every romantic moment throughout the day, from the swoon-worthy portrait session to the intimate ceremony at Cathedral of Christ the King to the reception at Ansley Golf Club.

The Couple:

Rachel and Will

The Wedding:

Cathedral of Christ the King and Ansley Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia

My dress was elegantly simple, and I wanted it that way! I wanted my flowers, hair, and veil to be the things that stood out. I loved my dress because it had individual details that made it so unique, but it was still effortless. My wedding party wore long sleeve, dark green, velvet dresses- which were beautiful! I loved the texture of the velvet in our photos. The way it brought out the colors of the flowers and caught the light in different ways was exactly what I envisioned!

While our wedding was fairly traditional, we wanted it to be unique compared to other traditional weddings. I wanted the vibe/look to be moody, dramatic colors. We wanted the whole night to feel warm, fun, and beautiful. So, we chose deep forest green, dark red and wine, light pinks, and ivory for our color palette. We wanted to do something different and loved the idea of a deep green!

There is a picture of us where Will is checking his watch. It’s one of my favorites because it’s so typical of his personality: always ahead of schedule and always dependable. I am so glad that Brandi caught that quick moment of him making sure we would be on time for the ceremony!

We chose Cathedral of Christ the King because it’s such a beautiful and holy church. We chose Ansley Golf Clubbecause Will grew up going there with his grandparents, so it is a sentimental place!

The menu was super important to us because we love food and because we wanted our guests to have lots of choices and walk away with full bellies! We had shrimp and grits, chicken peanut satay, mini beef wellingtons, fig and mascarpone puffs, tomato bacon jam puffs, chicken buffalo dip, and a few other things I am forgetting at the moment! We had specialty “his & her” cocktails, as well. Will‘s was a dirty Arnold Palmer, made with sweet tea bourbon. Mine was a vanilla bean, fig, and gin cocktail.
