Calling This Palm Springs Wedding at The Pond Estate an Elevated Backyard Wedding is a Major Understatement

August 13, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

When a wedding professional and a fashionista plan a wedding together, you know the end result is going to be nothing short of magical! Emily and Ace put their creative talents and eye for design on full display in their California wedding at The Pond Estate. The venue itself is a bit nontraditional because it is a vacation rental, but we never could have guessed that based on the styling that combined relaxed backyard vibes with wildly elegant decor. Photographer Jami Laree did a phenomenal job capturing not only the classic wedding photos we love but so many in-between moments, as well, that showed off all the careful planning and the emotion that went into this special day.

The Couple:

Emily and Ace

The Wedding:

The Pond Estate, Palm Springs, California

I am a full-time wedding professional. I MC and DJ at least two events per week so music was important but, I’m also a professional mixologist, spirits brand rep, and work closely with fashion. Emily comes from a fashion background and has a great eye for design so when it really comes down to it, we put so much care and planning into just about every detail of our wedding. But the MOST important thing was creating an experience and an atmosphere for us and our guests to really feel relaxed and enjoy the day as much as possible, and to give our families and friends the best possible setting to get to know each other.

Jami has an eye for editing that we were naturally drawn to. She and Keith were very relaxed and had a very calming presence on the day. After getting ready photos and family photos, I honestly wasn’t even aware that she and Keith were still shooting. It was amazing! I didn’t feel pressured for photos or too much in the spotlight, but we got so many great shots.

A planner is truly invaluable if you want to have time to rest during your day. If you choose your planner based on the vendors you want to work with, you can sometimes get great discounts. Also, family-style dining is the way to go! It’s faster and less stuffy than a plated meal, the photos look amazing, there is less waste, and — best of all — it doesn’t look cheap.

This Fashion Blogger’s Austin Destination Wedding at Prospect House Combined DIY Boho Elements with Hollywood Glamour

August 12, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Prepare your hearts, y’all, because we’ve got an extra-special dose of magic from deep in the heart of Texas with this Austin destination wedding! Taylor and Derek brought boho glam to the iconic Prospect House. They also managed to showcase elements that showed both of their personalities while still looking totally cohesive. The bride, who runs the successful fashion blog Taylor Made Style, stunned in a Rue De Seine gown and Hollywood glam-inspired hair and makeup, and her girls brought the boho vibes in cream-colored Joanna August dresses. And the groom, an avid beer enthusiast, not only brewed beer for the wedding but also got hops vines integrated into the floral design by Studio Tersilla. The result was almost too perfect for words but was captured brilliantly in these images from Century Tree Productions!

The Wedding:

Prospect House, Dripping Springs, Texas

The most important thing was having a well-honed vision that we could present to our vendors and immediately begin the collaborative process from a state of confidence. We felt that this allowed us to have detailed conversations with our vendors from the get-go, and that made a huge difference over the course of this journey.

As a fashion blogger, choosing my wedding dress was one part of the planning process I was super excited about, but I didn’t really have an exact idea of what I wanted. I only knew that I wanted long sleeves and it to be non-traditional. I tried on probably every style of dress before I landed on my Rue De Seine dress. It was unique, but still bridal, and was an absolute dream dress to own and wear! For beauty, I pulled inspiration from the ’60s and Hollywood glam. I wanted to add a touch of classiness to the boho gown so I opted for big curls, winged eyeliner, and a classic bold red lip. My bridesmaids all wore cream dresses by Joanna August, and they perfectly complemented my non-white dress!

Derek is a committed beer enthusiast, so one of his only design request was the integration of hops in the florals and decor. A friend of his in Washington grew hops and sent about a dozen vines to our florist, who did an excellent job integrating the cones on the altar platform, at place settings for the head table, and in the gentlemen’s boutonnieres. He also brewed a rye barrel-aged dessert stout with one of his groomsmen, which they aptly named, “Groom’s Cake.” It was a huge hit — the wedding nearly blew the entire keg of it, even at 11.5% ABV!

We knew early on we wanted to have a destination wedding in Austin. It’s a city we’ve visited together many times and we were so excited for our attendees to get to experience it! We both visited the venue on separate occasions and equally fell in love with it. Because Texas weather is famously unpredictable, we wanted a venue that had an outdoor ceremony space, an indoor reception space, and a solid weather contingency plan. The Prospect House really had it all!

Working with our photographer Shannon, of Century Tree Productions, was such an amazing experience. She made us feel comfortable, and we had fun! She allowed me to collaborate with her and share images leading up to the wedding and truly shared in my vision of what I wanted our wedding photos to look. In the end, she did an even better job than we could’ve imagined!

Be confident in your vision and what you want, but be prepared to display flexibility. Not everything will go exactly as planned — nothing this important ever does — so remember to take a couple of breaths, clear your head, and think about exactly how you want to deal with everything in those critical moments. It really will all be okay; we promise!

We went with more of a palette rather than specific colors to go along with our boho theme. We stuck to a palette of cream, blush, rust, and pops of burgundy. I wanted things to look organic and natural in a way rather than a few set colors.

Our most memorable part of the day was our private dance at the very end of the night. Our photographer suggested we do this, and we were SO happy we did! While everyone gathered outside for the sparkler exit, we had one final candlelit dance — just us. The day went by so quickly, and it was one of the only moments that we could just be alone together, savor the last few minutes of the night, and reflect on the best day of our lives.

This Downtown Boise Wedding is Utterly Chic with the Perfect Dose of Edge

August 11, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Angie and Alex’s downtown Boise wedding was both chic and nontraditional, and bursting with sweet emotion from beginning to end! The couple’s rooftop ceremony and reception felt relaxed while showcasing a slightly edgy vibe that was uniquely them. Plus, the combination of a classic black and white palette with a trendy rust accent made the entire day feel modern and romantic. It’s hard to imagine anything sweeter than the moments Rosie Nary Photography captured of Angie and Alex, especially during their private first look. Seriously, prepare your hearts!

The Couple:

Angie and Alex

The Wedding:

Marriott Residence Inn Boise Downtown Center, Boise, Idaho

Making sure we spent time together on our wedding day was the most important thing to me. Opting for an early first look, taking pictures together throughout the day, having a sweetheart table for just the two of us during dinner, and then having a low key reception where we could mingle with our friends and family. In fact, we even ran to get a coffee together the morning of just because. Having a timeline and wedding that allowed us to spend time together all day was the number one thing I wanted.

We chose to write our own personal vows and read them to one another beforehand. All the nerves I felt leading up to that moment went away instantly when we saw each other and I felt so at peace in those moments together beforehand. Looking back on the day now, it all went so quickly, but those moments together before the ceremony were so special.

It’s so easy to get caught up in wedding trends and lose sight of your own style but we really wanted our wedding to be a representation of us. We skipped a lot of traditional aspects of a wedding because we wanted the emphasis to be on the marriage and our commitment to one another. Spend time to sit down and decide upon what is important to you and what isn’t, if something is traditionally done but not important to you both, don’t worry about doing it.

I was drawn to the color rust right away when we started planning our wedding. It was warm, romantic, and a little nontraditional. I liked that it didn’t feel expected. I wanted to stick to an urban color scheme and black and white were a perfect compliment to the rust. I knew I’d want mostly greenery instead of florals because it felt unexpected but was truly beautiful. I loved the organic feeling of adding tons of greenery throughout. It all came together perfectly.

I told Alex I wanted to feel unique on our wedding day. What I meant was, on top of a beautiful dress, I still wanted to look and feel like me but have something special that set me apart. A bridal jacket was always on my list of must-haves. A talented artist friend of mine, Rachel, crafted the perfect leather jacket for me with a favorite Coldplay lyric written on the back. I loved unveiling it at the reception and how it tied everything together!
