This Cliffs of Moher Wedding Ended with a Luxe Pub Dinner You Have to See

March 16, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Jordan and Ryan travelled from Texas with close friends and family to celebrate their wedding in one of the most romantic and wild locations in Ireland—the epic Cliffs of Moher. They were drawn to the west coast of Ireland because of its beauty, but they also wanted their wedding location to be somewhere they could travel to year-after-year to holiday with family and celebrate their many anniversaries. A Cliffs of Moher wedding was a perfect and picturesque fit! After Jordan and Ryan tied the knot, they drove away in a most romantic getaway car to their cozy reception at Vaughan’s Pub. We’re especially fond of the “cheers!” photo Paula O’Hara captured of the couple pouring a pint out of the tap! From a cake table that was a true work of art to lots of enchanting details planned by Waterlily Weddings, this Cliffs of Moher wedding is sure to make you swoon!

The Couple:

Jordan & Ryan

The Wedding:

Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare, Ireland

Ryan and I both love to travel and have new experiences. We both wanted a small intimate wedding and we thought the best way to have this was through a destination. We wanted a location where we could see ourselves returning too for big anniversaries. Someplace we would eventually take our kids too. After seeing Waterlily’s portfolio, we decided Ireland would be that very special place for us. The word that comes to mind when I look back on our day is intimate. The amazing thing about having a small wedding is that I really got to spend quality time with everybody and those little moments with family, friends, and Ryan are by far my favorite parts of the day.

I went to try wedding dresses on and did not expect to buy anything that day. I tried on two dresses that were literally night and day from the dress I wore. The stylist helped me in and out of the first two and then said “I pulled another dress for you. Do you trust me?” I put on the dress she had picked out for me, walked out and my mom said thats the one. I probably stood in front of that mirror for 20 minutes in the Birenzweig dress.

Ryan and I both knew that we wanted to get married outside. We really struggled with deciding on a location because Ireland obviously has so many beautiful settings. We ultimately knew we wanted a spectacular backdrop and what is more iconic than a Cliffs of Moher wedding.

We had traditional vows read and did a ring exchange but we also incorporated some Irish traditions such as the hand fasting and the ring warming. At the end of our hand fasting we had the Irish prayer read. We also incorporated two scriptures that we believed spoke to us as a couple. The ceremony was performed by Romy and she could not have done a more beautiful job in preparing everything so that the ceremony reflected us as a couple.

Waterlily referred me to the very talented and wonderful Paula O’Hara. While viewing her profile I actually cried looking at the photos of the different couples she had captured. Her photos moved me to tears because of how honest and pure they were. Her pictures let you glimpse into those intimate moments with friends and family. It was then that I knew I also wanted her to shoot our wedding. These were the photos that would last for a lifetime and I wanted someone to capture the emotion and sentiment of the day. She is everything I hoped for and more in my photographer.

Waterlily Weddings were the creative geniuses who helped to bring my vision to life. I was a second-year medical student and trying to plan a destination wedding. Waterlily truly made the day seamless by connecting me to the vendors that best fit me and my husbands wants. Waterlily truly transformed our vision into a reality. They incorporated the important details that I wanted but also filled in the gaps seamlessly when there were things that I didn’t even realize needed attention.

My husband and I both love October and Halloween, but we didn’t want to have a themed wedding necessarily. We settled on “fall garden-witch” and boho, which was harder to explain to prospective vendors than I thought it would be. But the vendors who “got it” REALLY got it and ultimately were the amazing people we ended up going with! In addition to sifting through Pinterest, I drew a lot of inspiration from the movie, Practical Magic. It also helps that I’m a huge fan of antiques, old books, crystals and plants so I already had a lot of our decor on hand or knew where I could source more. I wanted everything to feel eclectic and personal but still fairly cohesive.

My best friend/matron of honor and I DIYed the acrylic signs! I loved the look of them on Pinterest but I didn’t want glass that could shatter and break and I didn’t have much left in the budget for it. So we bought some clear polycarbonate window panes in different sizes from a home improvement store, printed out what we wanted each sign to say in a font I liked, taped it to the back and traced the words with gold and white permanent paint pens on the front. For anyone planning on doing this, FYI goo-gone will remove the paint so if you make a mistake, it’s not the end of the world. Then after it dried we painted the back of each sign with acrylic paint in the wedding colors. It was a challenging project but I’m really happy with how it turned out!

All of our vendors were incredible. The bartender was so kind and saved us the cork from the first bottle of champagne they uncorked that night! Our coordinator was so helpful and incredible and the day was so much easier for so many people because of her help. Our photographer was so fun and adaptable, but she was also incredibly sensitive and willing to listen to my concerns and feelings. The florist took our vibe and truly ran with it. I am still obsessed with our florals. And the La Cour Venue was the perfect beautiful stage for so many amazing artists to come together and collaborate. They all made the day that much more beautiful and special!

This Bride Wore a Handmade Dress to Her Pastel Wedding in Vista, California

March 14, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Dominique & Sean’s pastel wedding in Vista, California was the perfect mix of DIY and heartfelt moments. The couple infused Americana music throughout their day—from Dominiques’ sisters singing the ceremony processional to various friends and family serenading their guests during the reception. We love when couples bring their personalities into their day like this. If that wasn’t enough, the bride also handmade many of the dresses you’ll see in the photographs Rad and in Love so perfectly captured! We can’t get over the Edwardian-glam vibe of Dominique’s wedding gown with the perfect touches of tulle and intricate lace applique detail. This wedding will surely inspire those who like to march to the beat of their own drum and do things the DIY way!

The Couple:

Dominique & Sean

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Vista, California

Wedding planning advice from the bride: Be you and let your day be original and Only include details that you want and take other’s opinions with a grain of salt. Ask too many questions (save yourself wasted/sneaky charges from vendors) and don’t be shy about asking for help. My sisters, girlfriends, sister in law, brother in law, mother in law, father in law and my mom all jumped in and did so much that I physically wouldn’t have been able to pull off without their hands – we were lucky that they were genuinely happy to have something to do; it felt communal and meaningful designing and bringing the day to life – together.

We wanted to be married on Sean’s family property in Vista, California where he was born and raised, at the home his father built almost 30 years ago, on land that was once his grandfather’s lime orchard. We spent a lot of time there with his family and at the nearby beaches, getting to know each other and it’s just a beautiful place in the world. We knew we wanted Loretta, a mutual friend who introduced us, to marry us and keep it intimate, creating a fun party for all of the people we’re close to to commune and enjoy themselves. We wanted to spend the day outdoors, surrounded by nature, fruit trees, live music and a view of the sunset and the ocean in the distance, under the stars!

Rad & In Love’s reputation precedes them all over San Diego & Los Angeles! I was comforted by Jamie’s calm and comforting patience and her help organizing the large, stoic, family shot we wanted. I LOVED that she brought her brand new, vintage super 8 video camera and captured 8 mm footage throughout the day and night; we later put our own original music to it.

Making my dress with my mom, while visiting her at home in Bangkok, Thailand, was an adventure! We went out hunting for a fabric in a sea of endless possibilities, decided on one, and then found a designer to build it. I asked around, eventually finding a friend of a friend who makes costumes and wardrobe for everything from movies to dance shows. It was a blessing in disguise because we ended up falling on a simpler, more flattering top that suited me much more than my original, busier idea. My mom ended up making her own dress at home with the light blue fabric that never made it into my dress! For my sister’s dresses, I loved the idea of a french countryside look, flow-y yet form fitted, puffy sleeves, similar fabrics but differing pastels to set them apart. I would visit the local seamstresses every day (on my mom’s street in Bangkok) and do fittings, sending my sister’s photos and getting their opinions. When we met up in Vista for the wedding weekend, we made small alterations. It was all a huge learning experience and ultimately worth it and so fun!

All of our siblings (Dominique‘s three sisters and Sean’s one sister) sing, as do their husbands, so we asked them to open the ceremony with a song. Dominique arranged and recorded a four part a cappella version of “All The Right Reasons” by The Jayhawks and all four of the sisters, plus three husbands (on guitar, upright bass and percussion), blew us away with their performance.

The most memorable part has to be the live music in both the ceremony and the reception, played by our friends and family members- special songs chosen by us. We joined in playing and singing on a few. At one point, our sweet friend Glen Phillips led the entire party in an a cappella sing along of “Stand By Me”. The reception was followed by a fireside bluegrass jam and more instruments joined in!
