Scottish Countryside Elopement at Alladale Wilderness Reserve

October 2, 2020 | riley

We love seeing couples incorporate their love for the great outdoors into their wedding. Isla and Greg did just that in their adventure elopement at Alladale Wilderness Reserve. With no planner helping them, the couple planned a magical day focused on the beauty of the surrounding snow-covered mountains.

Isla’s lace long-sleeved Unbridaled wedding gown paired perfectly with her warm colored bouquet from Wild Gorse. Greg honored Scottish tradition in his MacGregor & MacDuff kilt. We’re obsessed with the plaid shawl that Isla wore for the couple portraits–captured by The Caryls–that matched flawlessly with Greg’s kilt. While we could go on for days about this stunning affair, we think Katy Caryl said it best:

The Caryls’ Katy Caryl On The Day

Isla and Greg’s rugged and romantic elopement wedding at Alladale Wilderness Reserve in the Scottish Highlands had everything we love about adventurous outdoor weddings in Scotland. After exploring numerous venues, they found that they couldn’t get Alladale out of their heads—it was something truly special, and the perfect place for them to celebrate their wedding with just their closest friends and family.

Our photography takes us to so many incredibly beautiful locations, for which we are truly grateful, but the moment we drove through the gates of the Alladale estate, we were touched by its beauty too. Alladale Wilderness Reserve is a 23,000-acre estate 1.5 hours north of Inverness. The team behind the estate are really committed to keeping their corner of Scotland truly wild, or “re-wilded,” by replanting indigenous forests and reintroducing Scottish highland plant and animal species. Arriving at Alladale feels like stepping back in time to a bygone age.

A Memorable Wedding Morning

We got ready separately in the morning then met up again—just the two of us—to walk to our ceremony together. The morning felt strange–being apart–but it meant that coming back together was so exciting. We’ll never forget the anticipation of seeing each other all ready for our wedding, then the feeling of joy and completeness when, hand in hand, we marched up the hill to marry.

Why Alladale Wilderness Reserve

We were looking for a large hotel or country house that our family could all stay in together—somewhere in the beautiful Scottish countryside. We saw Alladale online and felt it offered what we were looking for. After visiting we realized it was a thousand times more spectacular than we ever imagined it could be. There was no way we were getting married anywhere else once we’d seen Alladale. It’s the most special place, and we fell in love with it instantly. The surroundings are dramatic and wonderful, the accommodation is comfortable but luxurious, and the ethos of the reserve is admirable.

Scottish Wedding Favors

We love exploring Scotland and have wonderful memories of trips we have taken together and the adventures we have had. We wanted to share some of these with our guests, so we had Tobermory chocolate from the Isle of Mull, handmade soaps from the Isle of Islay, miniature bottles of whisky from the Isle of Jura, and gin from the Isle of Skye.

Earthy Autumnal Wedding at Casa Cody in Palm Springs

October 1, 2020 | riley

Our midcentury desert dreams have come true! Alisa and Phil celebrated their love with an earthy autumnal wedding at Casa Cody. Bellaru Events absolutely stunned us with every detail of the day–from vintage equipale furniture to the personalized neon sign to the natural warm colored florals from The Little Branch

Alisa also stepped in to do a little personalization herself. With the help of her parents and their planner, she created a one-of-a-kind seating chart on vintage vases that she found at thrift stores. She filled them with painted palm leaves and pampas grass to add an extra rustic touch.

The couple also named one of their signature cocktails–created by The Whaling Club–after their furry friend, and their cake topper was a small ceramic portrait of themselves. This just goes to show that even the smallest details can make a wedding unique to who you are as a couple!

Keep scrolling to see the stunning photos captured by Isaiah and Taylor Photography—be prepared to be inspired.

The Wedding:

Casa Cody, Palm Springs, CA

Why Casa Cody

Casa Cody was love at first sight! It was the first venue we visited on a whim, and it was right when the sun was setting. The sky was a perfect violet, and that pretty much sealed the deal for us. The property is so lush, and the grounds are full of beautiful bougainvillea and orange and grapefruit trees, which was a big sell for me! The Adobe House, the main house on the property–where the bride and groom can stay–feels so full of rich history with beautiful antique decor. Fun fact, Casa Cody is the oldest operating hotel in Palm Springs. I love places with meaning and culture, and you definitely get a sense of that when you walk onto the property.

Earthy Autumnal Wedding Day Vibes

We both knew we wanted a desert Palm Springs wedding, so the location really helped form our vibe. The inspiration for the wedding came from my love of all things earthy and rust-colored. I was also influenced by a recent trip to Big Sur, where the coastline was filled with pampas grass. Phillip was the key vision for how our wedding was lit up, so everything you see from the structure of the lights over the tables to the chandelier over the rustic wood dance floor was all my husband!

DIYing The Reception

My biggest task was the escort table. I was inspired by a photo of a ceramic vase with the table number and names hand-drawn on. I wrote every single name on each of the glass and ceramic vases. My mom helped spray paint gold palm leaves from my dad’s backyard and stain the wood crate boxes we found at Home Goods. My wedding planner even went to a discount store to look for the beautiful glass vases and jugs. It was a lot of work, but I was very pleased with how it turned out.

Reminiscing On The Wedding Night

After a wild night with our friends and family at the after-party, Phil and I walked back to Casa Cody, where we were staying as well. The dance floor from our wedding was still lit with the string lights and chandelier. No one was around, considering it was close to 3 A.M. We laid down in the middle of the wood dance floor, staring up at the chandelier and the night sky, and talked about what a fun day we had and shared our favorite moments. It was a wonderful first moment of being alone together as newlyweds! We passed out shortly and were woken up by the sprinklers. It was perfect.

Bold Mexico City Wedding at Unique Venue Proyecto Público Prim

September 30, 2020 | riley

Calling all plant lovers! This is one you are going to love. Months before becoming engaged, Constanza and Fernando visited Proyecto Público Prim for the first time, and Constanza commented on how she wanted that to be their wedding venue one day. Ladies and gentlemen, their gorgeous wedding goes to show dreams do come true! Months later, the two tied the knot at one of the most beautiful wedding venues we have ever seen. Constanza and Fernando’s bold Mexico City wedding focused on the couple’s love for plants, architecture, and music.

Constanza looked whimsical in her chiffon and lace Trista gown, and Fernando tied into the light blue color palette perfectly with his Mermanegra suit. We’re absolutely in love with how the neutral accents put together by planner Paola Perdomo contrasted against the venue’s lush greenery. So get those Pinterest boards ready—you’re going to want to save these images that Marcela Cerbon captured.

A Secret Message Hidden In The Rings

Our rings have a really special story. When the three of them are stacked together, one of our favorite songs can be seen–This Must Be The Place by Talking Heads.

The Bride & Groom’s Wedding Fashion

I wanted a simple yet artsy unique dress that supported local Mexican designers. Even though I tried multiple silhouettes for fun, I decided on the first dress I tried from Mexican designer Trista–which was entirely custom made. I knew I did not want the typical wedding updo, so I did what could be considered a major “no-no” before a wedding and got a haircut. I decided to wear my hair down in a short curly bob with some crystal hairpins on the side. Fernando decided to follow suit and took a leap of faith. He had the first suit ever made from “Mermanegra,” by Mexican designer Gustavo Castellanos–who became our friend and even came to the wedding.

Bold Mexico City Wedding Day Vibes

We tried to put our personalities 100% out there. We are both plant lovers, art fans, and extreme melomaniacs. Fernando is an architect, so he has an amazingly simple aesthetic vision while having an eye for identifying beauty in unusual places. I love striking “look at me” things–mostly fashion related–and I tend to favor the unusual as well.

Why Proyecto Público Prim

Proyecto Público Prim (“PPP”) encapsulates simple yet beautiful restored architecture along with multiple types of greenery, secret rooms, and surprising settings. PPP also hosts many art-related events. When we visited for the first time, I even mentioned to Fernando, “If we ever get married, this must be the place…” without knowing that a few months later, he would pop the question.

The Importance of Music

Music festivals and concerts play an important part in our lives. We even have this thing where we create playlists together for all of our moods. Our wedding had to have DJs that understood our vision without imposing–we wanted them to have the freedom to play what they wanted and have fun with our guests, and we also wanted our friends to have the time of their life with us.
