Quinta Lago dos Cisnes Sets the Stage for a Glamorous Portugal Wedding

October 21, 2025 | justine

Maria and Mario wanted their wedding to feel elegant but relaxed. A day focused on laughter, good company, and genuine connection. Instead of following tradition too closely, they planned a glamorous Portugal wedding that blended sophistication and fun. Their exquisite venue, Quinta Lago dos Cisnes, set the scene with its cascading greenery and opulent chandeliers, multiple outdoor spaces, and incredible architecture. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind wedding venue that required few extra design touches to come to life.

Their love story started years earlier at Maria’s cousin’s wedding, where Mario was the best man. “We started talking that day,” Maria recalled, “but Mario was already planning to emigrate to the Netherlands, and then COVID hit.” Life took them in different directions, until fate intervened three years later at a Christmas dinner. “We started talking again as if no time had passed,” she shared. “It’s true what they say—you need chemistry and timing.”

Drawing Inspiration From Quinta Lago dos Cisnes’ Timeless Setting

It’s easy to see why Quinta Lago dos Cisnes became their main source of inspiration. The venue’s natural beauty—complete with palm-lined gardens, fire pits, a riverside lake house, and mountain views—needed very little embellishment. To complement the setting, they kept decor minimal with soft lighting, golden details, and floral arrangements that blended seamlessly with the environment.

“The place is so iconic,” the couple explained. “We tried to balance our personalities with the venue’s character. Everything we did aimed to enhance its natural beauty rather than compete with it.”

A Ceremony Filled With Laughter, Faith, and Love

Set within the stunning grounds of Quinta Lago dos Cisnes, the ceremony took place beneath lush greenery and golden light filtering through the hanging vines. The couple worked with a priest who understood their desire for something relaxed yet meaningful. “He led a smooth and fun ceremony that deviated from the expected protocols,” they said.

Their families played a special role, with readings and words from their mothers and siblings adding a personal touch. One of the most memorable moments came when the priest gifted them a pair of wristbands, a symbolic gesture they’ll cherish forever.

Custom-Made Wedding Day Attire From A Portuguese Designer

For the couple, fashion was an essential part of expressing who they are. Working with designer Gio Rodrigues, who had dressed them before, made the process seamless. “It just made sense to trust and rely on him.”

Maria wore three looks: one for the cocktail reception, another for the ceremony, and a third for the evening party. Mario had two suits, one for the daytime and another for the celebration that followed.

To keep things cohesive yet personal, they chose golden gowns for the maids of honor and midnight blue suits for the best man, allowing each to customize their design.

A Glamorous Reception at Quinta Lago dos Cisnes

The reception balanced luxury with refinement. Round tables framed the pool, styled with candles and gold accents that glowed against the water. Overhead chandeliers tied the look together, adding just the right amount of structure and symmetry. Inside, the same neutral palette continued. Ivory florals, gold-rimmed glassware, and crisp lines that echoed the venue’s architecture.

Games, Laughter, and a Laid-Back Party Atmosphere

From the beginning, Maria and Mario agreed their wedding should feel like a day-long party surrounded by loved ones. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a series of games scattered throughout the venue, from Twister to Beer Pong, plus a treasure hunt for the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s gift. “Our guests really got into the spirit,” they said. “It was amazing to see everyone laughing and having fun.”

The couple limited their guest list to a close circle of family and friends, keeping the energy intimate and genuine. In true Portuguese fashion, food and drinks flowed freely, and children played among the tables as everyone celebrated late into the night.

The Value of Chemistry and Trust With Their Wedding Team

The couple described their vendor team as “the perfect mix of professionalism and friendship.” They were intentional about choosing people they connected with, from longtime collaborators to trusted recommendations. “It was mandatory for us to have chemistry with everyone. We wanted a team that felt like family.”

That sense of comfort paid off. “We didn’t feel nervous at any point. The venue’s team was amazing. They would come to us only when needed, explaining things calmly. Whenever something came up, it was already handled before we even knew about it.”

Their advice for future couples: “Be very selective when choosing your venue and vendors. Spending a little extra on the right people can save you time, stress, and headaches. Look for teams who genuinely love what they do.”

The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Courthouse Wedding

October 19, 2025 | riley

There’s something timeless about saying “I do” at city hall. No grand guest list or elaborate production—just two people, a few witnesses, and a moment that’s entirely their own. Courthouse weddings may be simple, but that doesn’t mean they’re without charm or planning details. Whether you’re drawn to the intimacy or practicality of it all, this guide covers everything you’ll need to make it official and meaningful.

How To Plan a Courthouse Wedding

Decide on the Date and Location

Like any other wedding, the first step to planning a courthouse is deciding on the date and location. Contact your local courthouse (or one that’s in a destination you hope to visit) to inquire about available dates and times for wedding ceremonies. Many courthouses offer weekday and weekend options.

“Courthouses have certain times of day when the light inside is absolutely beautiful,” shares Autumn Lynne Photography. “It’s usually between midmorning and midafternoon, depending on the building’s architecture. Try to schedule your ceremony or couple photos during those peak lighting hours to make the most of the natural, airy light courthouses are known for.”

If you plan to take outdoor photos afterward, consider mid-morning or late afternoon. When the light is soft, warm, and flattering.

Budget for Your Courthouse Wedding

Courthouse weddings are often more budget-friendly than traditional ceremonies, but costs can vary depending on your location. Be prepared to budget for marriage license fees, officiant fees, witness fees, and any additional services or decorations you want to include. We’ll get into how much you can expect to pay for a courthouse wedding a little later.

Obtain a Marriage License

Visit your local courthouse to apply for a marriage license. Requirements and waiting periods vary by jurisdiction, so check with your local government office for specific details. Bring necessary identification and any required documents (such as your driver’s license, state I.D. card, or passport).

Decide on Your Guest List

Courthouse weddings are typically smaller affairs, so deciding who you want to invite is important. Do you want it to be just the two of you having a big party with your friends and family afterward? Or do you want your closest loved ones there to share in the moment? The choice is entirely up to you. However, once you have the courthouse picked out, we recommend seeing how many witnesses (if any) are required and what the maximum number of guests is.

Plan Your Vows and Ceremony

Discuss the details with courthouse staff or your officiant. You can write your own vows, keep it traditional, or skip vows entirely.

“My favorite courthouse moments are when couples exchange private vows before the ceremony,” says C. Isabel Photography. “It’s quiet, intimate, and completely personal. Something they’ll always remember.”

You can also include small symbolic gestures, like carrying a charm or heirloom to honor loved ones who couldn’t attend.

What Happens During a Courthouse Wedding?

You’ll arrive at the courthouse with your marriage license, IDs, and any witnesses. After checking in, your officiant or judge will conduct the short ceremony. You’ll exchange rings and vows, sign your license, and receive your marriage certificate—just like that, you’re married!

“I always tell couples to allow at least one hour for the courthouse,” explains C. Isabel Photography. “Even if they have an appointment, it’s still a government office, which means things can run late. Add 30 minutes for travel or photos—because you’ll want time to enjoy the moment instead of rushing through it.”

How to Make a Courthouse Wedding Special

Because a courthouse wedding is such a short, simple celebration, it can be hard to figure out ways to make it even more special (because, let’s face it, it already is just by you promising forever to your significant other). However, there are a few things you can do to take things up a notch.

Bring a Bouquet of Your Favorite Flowers

Since décor is minimal, your bouquet becomes a beautiful focal point. Choose flowers or colors that hold meaning to you—or have your florist include a personal charm.

“I’ve seen brides attach charms with photos of family members who couldn’t attend,” shares C. Isabel Photography. “One bride wore a jade necklace passed down from her grandmother in China. It was her way of bringing family with her.”

Write Your Own Vows

We know that writing your own vows isn’t for everyone, but it’s a simple, free way to make your ceremony yours. What’s more special than writing your promises straight from your heart? Then, you can re-read them every year on your anniversary.

Include a Unity Ceremony

Traditional weddings aren’t the only places you can find a unity ceremony. Whether you do a sand pouring, light a candle, or a shot of your favorite liquor, a unity ceremony offers a chance to personalize your day and give you a potential keepsake to remember the day by.

Play your Favorite Songs

One of the best parts about getting married at the courthouse is that you don’t necessarily have to worry about guest experience. You don’t have to stress out about making the perfect cocktails, having a specially curated playlist, or creating a menu everyone will enjoy. If you and your soon-to-be spouse have songs that are special to your relationship, play them during your ceremony–even if they’re a little quirky. There should be laughter on a wedding day, anyway.

Capture the Moments

Even if your celebration is simple, your photos will tell a lifetime story.

“Couples sometimes think that because it’s not a big wedding, it’s not a big moment,” says C. Isabel Photography. “But those quiet courthouse glances, the hallway handholds, and that walk down the steps—those are priceless. Even a short photo session that day helps capture the intimacy and joy.”

Autumn Lynne Photography adds, “Look for timeless backdrops like a grand staircase, nearby park, or city crosswalk. It can feel cinematic—like a movie scene come to life.”

Host an After Party

Whether you decided to keep the ceremony between the two of you or you included friends and family, keep the party going with an after party. This could look like dinner at your favorite restaurant, a karaoke sesh at a nearby bar, hitting a club for a night of dancing, or a bonfire.

What to Wear to a Courthouse Wedding

Although more couples are going the untraditional route for attire at traditional weddings, we’re seeing it even more so at courthouse weddings. These weddings are often more casual, which typically leads to more relaxed attire. However, at the end of the day, what you wear should reflect your personal style. If you want to look and feel like you would at a big wedding, wear that white dress and veil or suit–even if you do feel overdressed. Not one to dress up? Opt for casual attire like a mini dress or button-down shirt and slacks. The possibilities are endless.

How Much Does a Courthouse Wedding Cost?

Courthouse wedding costs can vary depending on your location. However, on average, you can expect to pay about $120 for a relatively simple ceremony. In some cities (such as San Francisco and Santa Barbara), you can rent out space within the courthouse to allow you to have more guests and more time. This can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500, depending on where you’re tying the knot. This may be worth looking into if you want more than ten guests.

How Long Does a Courthouse Wedding Take?

The duration of a courthouse wedding can vary, but the ceremony itself is usually brief, typically lasting 15-30 minutes. The entire wedding planning process–from applying for a marriage license to the ceremony–can take a few weeks to a few months, depending on your location and any waiting periods for the license.

Make It a “Day of Adventure”

After saying “I do,” plan something spontaneous—grab coffee, visit a museum, or go for a scenic walk. “Turning your courthouse wedding into a mini adventure day keeps the joy rolling all day long!” Focus Photography recommends.

Remember, a courthouse wedding can be just as meaningful and memorable as a traditional one. What matters most is your love and commitment to each other. Ready to tie the knot to the love of your life at your local courthouse? Still trying to decide what to wear? Pink and Green Never Looked Better in this Fresh Charlotte Wedding

October 19, 2025 | justine

Modern, fun, and refreshingly effortless—that’s how Juliana and Graham imagined their day from the very beginning.  They wanted their Charlotte wedding to be filled with bold color, laughter, and a sense of ease that reflected their relationship. Pink and green became the perfect foundation: her favorite hue meets his, a combination that instantly felt joyful and unique. The couple leaned into playful elegance. Mixing refined details with lighthearted touches like dachshund-themed name cards and custom cocktails that had everyone smiling.

Their love story began back in college at Furman University. “We first met at a party in his apartment,” Juliana recalled. “We chatted most of the night but never exchanged names. A few months later, we met again when we were both acting as wingman and wingwoman for friends.” Years of long-distance followed, strengthening their bond through study abroad, grad school, and life in different cities. By the time they finally tied the knot, they knew their connection could weather anything.

What We Love About This Charlotte Wedding

  • A vibrant pink-and-green palette that felt modern yet timeless
  • Two custom bridal looks, including a gown sourced from Ireland at 75% off
  • A dachshund-inspired nod to their pup through name cards and cocktail napkins
  • Four creative dinner stations, most of which were gluten-free for the celiac groom
  • Heartfelt ceremony music featuring Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris on strings

Finding the Right Team to Bring Their Vision to Life

Planning a Charlotte wedding that felt “modern and fun” started with finding the right people. “I didn’t have a Pinterest board,” Juliana admitted. “I relied heavily on a planner to create the vision.” After chatting with several planners, she instantly clicked with Deanna from The Gathering Co. “She was bubbly, fun, and genuinely excited to work with us.”

Having a planner, she says, was the best decision she made. “Deanna handled communication, design, logistics—everything. She was 100% worth the investment.” Their planner also helped the couple find vendors they could trust. “We gave them full creative freedom. I told Deanna what I liked, and she found options that matched. I wanted vendors who were fun, easy to talk to, and who felt right.”

Making Meaningful Choices for Their Ceremony

Their indoor Charlotte wedding ceremony struck the perfect balance of sentimental and stylish. The music set the tone—Frank Ocean’s “Ivy” for Graham’s entrance and Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close” for Juliana’s. “Who knew those songs would sound amazing on strings?”

To honor their late grandparents, they read their names aloud and held a moment of silence before the vows. “It meant a lot to include them,” she said.

And then came the kiss. “I hate PDA,” Juliana confessed. “My friends even placed bets on how long it would last. But I actually grabbed his face, which was a total surprise!”

Doing a first look earlier in the day helped calm nerves. “It took so much stress off. We also spent the last hour before the ceremony together. It was nice to just be alone before the whirlwind.”

Balancing Style and Personality Through Fashion

Fashion became one of Juliana’s favorite parts of wedding planning. “I wanted my wedding gown to feel modern and chic,” she said. Alexia’s Bridal even reached out to her chosen designer and shipped in dresses from their new collection for her to try. “It felt like a mini sample sale just for me!”

Her second gown came from Still White, a resale site where she found the same dress she’d tried locally, but for 75% off. “It didn’t feel super bridal at first, but I fell in love once I saw it styled my way.”

She paired her looks with statement shoes. A pair of light pink Prada heels for the ceremony and chartreuse Larroude heels for the reception. “Whenever I dress up, I love fun shoes, so I needed to do the same for my wedding!”

Her bridesmaids wore black dresses of their choice with any pink heels they’d actually wear again. “I just wanted them to feel like themselves,” she explained. Meanwhile, Graham surprised her with a custom houndstooth-lined suit—a nod to his car’s seats—and pocket squares gifted by the designer.

Turning Their Vision Into a Party to Remember

If their ceremony was heartfelt, the reception was pure fun. The couple designed their menu around their go-to delivery orders. “My husband calls it a snapshot of our Postmates history,” Juliana joked. Guests enjoyed four food stations—crab cakes, Indian, tacos, and sliders—all gluten-free except one.

The dance floor came alive thanks to DJ Vinny, who the couple chose purely based on energy. “He had so much energy on our Zoom call. After we hung up, my husband said, ‘It’s DJ Vinny or no other DJ.’”

Music was one of the most personal parts of their day. The string quartet performed “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake, “Alejandro” by Lady Gaga, and “Latch” by Disclosure. All songs tied to their relationship. When the sound system briefly disconnected, guests filled the silence by singing along together. “It was so unexpected but so fun!”

And in true 2020s wedding fashion, a few surprises made for good stories. Like an uninvited guest who was graciously seated by coordinators and a limo rescue after their getaway car got into a fender bender.

Final Thoughts From the Couple

“As a bride, it’s easy to believe you need everything you see on Instagram,” Juliana said. “But if something suddenly feels like a ‘must-have,’ ask yourself: do I really need it, and is it worth the energy?”

Her advice to other couples: “Don’t get worked up on the little things. It is what it is, and your guests will have a good time no matter what.”
