When it comes you choosing the readings for your ceremony, you might be feeling a bit lost—especially if you’re a couple who likes to rock to the beat of your own drums and go the non-traditional route. Have no fear! We’re here to help, babes. When thinking about your ceremony readings, it’s important to choose something that represents the two of you. So, if cool and casual is your thing, a simple ceremony reading might be the best fit for your day.

Here are Junebug’s favorite simple ceremony readings for your wedding:

  1. Atticus Poetry

  2. I just need you and some sunsets.

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway

    We ate well and cheaply
    and drank well and cheaply
and slept well and warm together
    and loved each other.

    Butterflies Rising

    you said,
tell me where you’ve been, love

and i thought of all the lost roads,
    and dark corners,
    and heavy work, and heartbreak,
    and of all the healing

    and i just said…
    on my way here

  3. Heart Talk by Cleo Wade

  4. And if you want love…the really good kind…you are going to have to get your hands dirty.

    Apricot Memoirs by Tessa Guinery

Life should be lived with a spirit of
    adventure, loads of good conversation
and a heart ready to celebrate others.
Love your lover. Make love under the
stars. Let your heart feel risk. Keep it
wild. Let spontaneity lead, keep things
fresh, and say “I love you” a million
times a day. Share a meal and some
rouge with your tribe. Don’t be tight-
fisten with what’s in your hands—be
    generous! Generous with your words,
your creativity, and your love. Live
large, and heed to your convictions.
Don’t let me sun set upon anger,
and be bold even when you feel like
retreating to your safe, little cave.
    Most importantly, have faith and,
love God with all your heart, mind,
    and soul.

  5. “the one” by Rupi Kaur

  6. they should feel like home
a place that grounds your life
where you go to take the day off

  7. The Nightmare Before Christmas

  8. “My dearest friend, If you don’t mind, I’d like to join you by your side. Where we could gaze into the stars, and sit together, now and forever. For it is plain as anyone could see, we’re simply meant to be.”

  9. Van Gogh

  10. I feel
    that
    there is
    nothing
    more truly
    artistic
    than to
    love people

  11. Jane Austin “Sense & Sensibility”

  12. My heart is, and always will be, yours.

  13. Sex and the City

  14. “His hello was the end of her endings. Her laugh was their first step down the aisle. His hand would be hers to hold forever. His forever was as simple as her smile. He said she was what was missing. She said instantly she knew. She was a question to be answered. And his answer was ‘I do.’”

  15. Wild Awake by Hilary T. Smith

  16. “Love lets you find those hidden places in another person, even the ones they didn’t know were there, even the ones they wouldn’t have thought to call beautiful themselves.”

  17. “There Will Be Time” by Mumford and Sons, featuring Baaba Maal

  18. But in the cold light I live to love and adore you
It’s all that I am, it’s all that I have
In the cold light I live, I only live for you
It’s all that I am, it’s all that I have

  19. Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne

  20. If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.

  21. Mother Teresa

  22. Spread love
    wherever you go.
    Let no one
    ever come to you
    without leaving
    happier.

Stylish Industrial Detroit Wedding at Galleri 2987

February 19, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

When Lizzie and Robert’s wedding vision was inspired by their favorite bar—an intimate, literary-inspired speakeasy—and we’re obsessed with how they pulled it off at Galleri 2987 in Detroit. Instead of a registry, the duo asked their guests to each bring a book that was important to them and, in return, the couple gave copies of their favorite books as favors. From these simple, clever ideas, to stylish details that Every Little Detail helped to plan at every turn, we’re certain you will love this day! We’re grateful ME+HIM Photography was there to capture it all with brilliance.

The Couple:

Lizzie & Robert

The Wedding:

Galleri 2987, Detroit, Michigan

SHOP SIMILAR STYLES: Show Me Your Mumu Jen Maxi Gown in Dusty Blush ($198); Social Bridesmaids Strapless Georgette Gown in Platinum ($208); Shona Joy Draped Alter Tulip Gown in Powder Blue ($280); Show Me Your Mumu Caitlin Cold Shoulder Chiffon Gown in Show Me the Ring Crisp ($178)

Since we wanted the wedding to be comfortable, we wanted the vibe to reflect places where we like spending time. Part of our inspiration came from our favorite bar, an intimate, literary-inspired speakeasy. We’re also pretty low-key people, so we didn’t want the vibe to be overly formal and overwhelming. This led us to our natural and understated decor.

We both love to read, and books have been important to us throughout our relationship. So instead of a registry, we asked our guests to bring us books that were important to them. In return, we gave copies of our favorite books as favors. We chose a selection of books that both of us had read and loved, collected several copies of each, and had a bookshelf in our reception space. We wrote notes about each choice so that guests could choose and take home a book of their own.

Don’t worry about tradition or trends–trust your own instincts and your vendors. Your vendors probably have a lot of good advice and expertise (ours certainly did). However, only you can decide which traditions you do and do not want to include (or if you want to make up something completely original!).

Modern Luxurious Austrian Wedding at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron

February 18, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

With breathtaking views and elegant, modern touches, Lynn and Justin’s wedding at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron has our hearts beating fast for every detail! The couple gave a non to their Chinese roots with touches of blue and white porcelain that was the absolute perfect touch of sentiment and class to their decor. They also hand wrote “thank you” notes as favors and placed them in small boxes their parents brought from China. We’re positively obsessed with Lynn and Justin’s ring bearer, their golden retriever pup! If you’re one to swoon over all things classic and pretty, we know you’re going to love the images Candida & Max Jan Photography captured so beautifully of this sweet wedding day.

The Couple:

Lynn & Justin

The Wedding:

Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg, Austria

We wanted real guests, real celebration, and real emotions. We didn’t want anything cliche or for pure formality. We tried to create the wedding with the goal that everyone, including ourselves, could feel absolutely comfortable and enjoy each moment of the day.

Our families are from China so I want to bring in some tradition Chinese elements to the wedding. I always like the blue and white porcelain and want to keep the color palette simple. So it’s mostly blue and white jars and white flowers with greenery.

Walking down the aisle to the classical interpretation of an EDM song that means a lot for us while our guest being on the same page with us. There were a lot of happy tears.

Don’t think too much of “how a wedding is supposed to be”. Pick the things that are most important to you and devote your most effort on those. Let go of the rest. If you don’t care about those, your guest won’t either.
