Magical Casual Garden Wedding at Woodbridge Ponds

September 28, 2020 | riley

Geneva and Kevin’s garden wedding at Woodbridge Ponds focused on nature’s beauty with a whimsical outdoor ceremony and a magical greenhouse reception. With the help of large burgundy and white floral arrangements from Fern & Flower Events, a macrame backdrop set against lush trees, and an abundance of greenery, the couple transformed the space into a folkloric fairytale.

Geneva’s lace sheath gown with bell sleeves–found at The Bridal Gallery–perfectly matched the flower crown she paired with it to give her a free-spirited boho look. And we love the navy suits–from Indochino–that the groom and groomsmen wore to add a touch of elegance to the day. We’re so glad The McLachlans were there to capture the spirit of the day. Keep scrolling to see an emotional first look, a beautiful sunset couple’s session, and even some surprise pet friends.

A Memorable First Look

The whole day was the most memorable day of our lives, but if we had to narrow it down to the most magical moment, it would have to be our first look. We had rented a beautiful home right on Cultus Lake– big enough for me and my ten soulmaids (aka bridesmaids) to get ready upstairs and Kevin and his five soulmen (aka groomsmen) to get ready downstairs. Naturally, we were tempted to see each other all morning. Finally, when it was time for our first look, our videographer Sean took Kevin out first. They went down this beautiful forested path next to our Airbnb and went all the way along the lake’s edge. Shortly after, I followed with our photographer Kaylyn. I can still feel the butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it. We laughed, cried, twirled around in circles, and read each other our vows in private—just the two of us.

Remembering Those That Have Passed

Our ceremony was so personal–from the music we chose, to the moment of meditation, all the way to my uncle Paul’s special blessings. Our officiant Peter was truly one of a kind. He spent so much time with Kevin and me–getting to know everything about us and our story. We quickly became friends. Because of that, he was able to personalize our ceremony so much and was so open to involving my uncle Paul because he knew how much I wanted it to be my grandpa. Growing up, my grandpa was a minister, and he married my parents. It was always my dream to have him marry me one day. Unfortunately, he was taken too soon, so that wasn’t possible. Ever since grandpa passed, I’ve always seen him in my uncle.

Why Woodbridge Ponds

The Secret Garden at Woodbridge Ponds was actually the first and only venue we looked at! We were immediately blown away by the outdoor ceremony space surrounded by trees and the little wooden bridge over the koi fish pond. We were even more blown away by the indoor glass greenhouse reception space that had a rainforest feel. There were trees and plants everywhere, chandeliers hanging from the chiffon drapery on the ceiling, and more koi fish ponds inside. The outdoor fire pit area was a beautiful bonus too.

This Tropical Industrial Millwick Wedding is Full of Laid-Back Vibes

September 27, 2020 | riley

Does it get any better than an industrial and tropical wedding? We don’t think so. Lauren and Julian’s tropical day at the industrial Millwick in LA plays up the venue’s lush aesthetic perfectly. One look at the ceremony space and you would think we were in Tulum.

The beautiful white and green flower arrangements by Best Day Ever Floral Design totally pop against the brick interior, and we can’t get enough of the couple portraits the two took with Gabriel Conover outside on the streets of Los Angeles. The couple–with the help of Pop The Champagne Events–clearly paid attention to all of the small details, and we love every minute of it. So, get those Pinterest boards ready, Junebabes, because this one is totally pinnable.

The Couple:

Lauren and Julien

The Wedding:

Millwick, Los Angeles, California

Why A Millwick Wedding

The question we always asked ourselves when touring a venue was, “Is this the kind of place we would hang out at?” Walking into Millwick’s quirky, tropical-meets-industrial space–with tons of lush greenery and a low-key, casual vibe–felt like a place we would grab a drink—if it were open to the public. I think we decided before our tour even started that it was going to be the place.

A Quiet Moment Before The Ceremony

There’s a photo of us in the couple’s suite before the ceremony. We’re sitting in two armchairs, holding hands and chatting. It was a small moment where we were preparing for what was about to unfold–what five years of love led up to. It’s my favorite picture of the day.

Personalizing The Ceremony With Friends & Family

Instead of having a flower girl, we opted for “flower grandmas!” Both of our grandmothers did tremendous work helping raise us, and we wanted to make them part of the procession somehow. We had them walk down together and hand out flowers to our guests, which ended up being one of our favorite moments. We also had our moms do a couple of readings from authors that were meaningful to us–Shel Silverstein for him, Haruki Murakami for me. To top it all off, our friend Nick graciously agreed to officiate and marry us. He’s known us both as friends and as a couple, so he was the perfect choice. Together we collaborated on a ceremony script that was short, sweet, and best of all, uniquely us.

Wedding Advice From The Bride

Make peace with the fact that you probably won’t have the time or budget for every single thing in your wedding planning vision. You may set out wanting x, y, and z, but all of a sudden, z is no longer attainable for whatever reason. This happened to me with custom invitations. Initially, I wanted a custom-designed invite, but after prioritizing my list of must-haves, I realized it wasn’t as important to me as having other things.

Laid-Back Tropical Wedding Day Vibes

Millwick is a cool, unconventional venue with a tropical-industrial aesthetic and we really wanted to embrace that. So we opted to keep the florals tropical yet modern in terms of the color palette. We stuck to creams and muted pastels accented by pops of amber and lots of tropical greenery. Annie–our florist–kept things from becoming too monotonous by playing up textures and hues.

Creative + Modern Chinese Wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch

September 26, 2020 | riley

Here at Junebug, we love good food and fashion. So, when we saw that Tawny and Julian’s wedding had a welcome dinner complete with an In N Out food truck and three–yes, you read that correctly–different bridal looks, we were head over heels in love. With the help of expert planner CCL Weddings and Events, the couple’s nuptials at Hummingbird Nest Ranch were the perfect combination of creative, modern, and fashion-forward.

The pink flower arrangements put together by Of The Flowers added the perfect pop of color against the black and white decor and the fairy lights added a romantic feeling to an otherwise modern set-up. We’re thrilled that May Iosotaluno was there to capture every well-thought-out detail. From the tender moments of the ceremony to the futuristic LED light installation, this wedding is easily one of the most unique that we have ever seen.

A Welcome Event Complete With Goody Bags

The day before our wedding, we hosted a welcome event for all our guests to attend at Casita Hollywood! We had Guerilla Tacos, an In-N-Out truck, and cocktails! We also passed out personalized tote welcome bags for our guests, which included: a garden in a bag, Rx bars, Compartes chocolate, Sour Patch Kids, and a polaroid camera.

The Creative & Modern Wedding Vibes at Hummingbird Nest Ranch

We didn’t want the wedding to be too serious–as we are very laidback. We wanted our guests to have fun and relax with us. The wedding was influenced heavily by our love for food, so the menu was very important to us–from the snacks served at the welcome party to the after-party food. In terms of style and design, I wanted a more rustic vibe with touches of refined elegance. With wild florals placed inside a contained plexiglass box, you will see the perfect juxtaposition of neat and messy.

Multiple Wedding Day Surprises

We had so many surprises for our guests throughout the night! Julian and I choreographed our dance for our first dance to show our guests just how thankful we were to have every one of them. Julian’s mother and father also “Love me Tender” by Elvis Presley. This was by far the sweetest gift we received as a couple. Fashion is extremely important to me, so I had a total of 3 outfit changes! We also had a fashion-forward LED light installation designed and built by CCL Weddings, where our guests could take photos. We knew this would make our wedding stand out!
