Edgy Meets Feminine Circle Oak Ranch Wedding

When it comes to edgy feminine wedding style, Katey and Alec’s California wedding takes the cake! This very fashionable couple tied the knot at Circle Oak Ranch and incorporated a color palette of glamorous metallics, fresh ivory, and muted taupe. Katey’s show-stopping custom bridal gown featured two fabulous pieces, a dramatic high-low cut, and white floral leather. We love how JC Guzman Photography captured every perfect moment of Katey and Alec’s Circle Oak Ranch wedding, including stunning sunset couple portraits in the desert!

The most important thing to me was staying true to our style. We are simple, yet different and fun. I wanted to make sure that our wedding was “us.” From the invitations, to the center pieces, to the bridesmaids shoes, to the garter toss. I wanted people to be able to look at the wedding photos and know it was ours.

I wore Alex and Ani bracelets that all have a meaningful charm on them.

I did a first look, but with my dad. That was the most memorable moment in my life.

My seamstress was amaaaaazing. We went shopping in the LA Fashion District for all the fabric for my dress and my bridesmaids dresses. I had a two piece dress. My top was made out of white leather. The back of my top had little white buttons up the back (I die) and was made out of the same fabric as my skirt. My skirt was a high-low. We found the most beautiful fabric for my skirt. It was a beautiful floral pattern that was also made out of white leather.

I wanted something that was “me.” And seriously, even my friends would tell you.. This dress was me. I loved every single thing about it. It was stylish, yet beautiful, a tad sexy with class. Ugh I love love loved it so much!! My shoes were white leather as well with gold zippers on the back and laced up the front. I surprised Alec (and everyone else) by dying my hair pink for the wedding. I figured why not?! Everything else was white and I needed a pop of color somewhere! Haha.

Our venue was all outdoors and beautiful! The flow from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception was perfect. We were married underneath a huge old oak tree. It was so big that all 220 guests fit underneath the tree. It was everything I could have ever imagined, but better.

The other most memorable moment I’d have to say is the immediate feeling of peace when I saw Alec waiting for me at the alter. Once I saw him, all my jitters went away, it was like, “oh, there you are. There’s my home.”

We went with what our style was. I love anything girly but grungy. Classy, with an edge. My bridesmaids outfits were all custom made by our incredible seamstress and the groomsmen’s attire I picked out piece by piece. The vibe was set from there. The girls wore leather skirts and all the groomsmen wore something different. Our vibe was fun, and it was us. Class with a little bit of sass. All of our colors were neutral. Gold, rose gold, taupe, brown, ivory. I wanted our wedding party to be mismatched, we stuck with a neutral color scheme so it didn’t start looking messy.

Our photographer JC took Alec and I on top of a hill at sunset. These are our favorite photos. It was just the two of us. We were able to get away from the noise of the wedding and spend a few minutes looking into each other’s eyes while JC was capturing photos. So not only did we appreciate the sunset portraits, we appreciated those moments we were able to spend with each other.

Well, we spent a year shopping for the center pieces. They were all different. We got everything from antique stores basically. We did tons of different oil lamps and bottles. So we put together each table individually. We hand made the table seating chart with chicken wire and an old picture frame.

If I could give any wedding planning advice it would be to enjoy the process. Things will go wrong, but just remember that at the end of the day, you are going to marry your best friend and that is all that truly matters! Even if your wedding cake is tilted and missing a tier (yes, that happened), you’re still going to get married that day and it is going to be the best day of your life!!

We had little boxes on their dinner plates with butterscotch candies and mints to snack on. For our grand exit, we had light up bubble guns. So all the guests were able to keep them :) we wanted something fun and unique!

Sweet and Sparkly Leicestershire Wedding at The Old Stables

October 15, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

sweet-and-sparkly-leicestershire-wedding-at-the-old-stables-18

Retro romantic flair, super sweet bridal style, and mind-blowing floral design make this classic English countryside wedding a real charmer! Naomi and Isaac hosted their ceremony in a charming church then wowed guests with stunning tablescapes and Isaac’s DIY chocolates at their reception at The Old Stables. We can’t get enough of Naomi’s sparkly Sottero and Midgley gown, perfectly natural makeup, and incredible peony-based bouquet. Matt Horan Photography beautifully captured every moment of Naomi and Isaac’s wedding!

The Couple:

It was important to us to keep the vibe of our wedding relaxed and informal; we wanted to do things our way rather than follow what was ‘meant’ to be done. A strong criteria of our church and venue was that we didn’t have strict rules to follow! We also wanted to make sure that everyone had a good time celebrating, so we tried to think about what would be important to our guests on the day too.

Matt Horan is an excellent photographer and a wonderful person to be around, and working with him on our wedding day came very naturally. He made us feel at ease whilst taking our photos, whatever the point in the day. It was a pleasure to see him laughing and having fun with our guests, and he captured some really fun and natural shots which are some of our favourites. We absolutely love our photos and cannot thank Matt enough for capturing our day perfectly.

We’ve been to weddings before where the favours have been left behind in the excitement of the day. We wanted our guests to choose their own favours to make sure they took them! With Isaac being a chocolatier, it was an easy choice for him to make the handmade chocolates. We then arranged them on cake stands and marble for our guests to enjoy on the day and to fill a box to take home.

Our advice: Don’t lose sight that it’s a day of celebration and that people are happy if they see that you are happy. Also make sure you give the best man a time limit on his speech!

The most memorable part of the day for us was our first dance. We’ll never forget everyone’s faces when the dubstep base line dropped and the confetti cannons exploded! It was amazing to dance to an all time favourite song with all our loved ones getting into the spirit of it too.

Laid-Back Golden Hour Wedding in Indiana

October 15, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-1-3

With its magical reddish hues and warmth, golden hour is often revered as the most photographable moment of the day. Deciding to say “I do” during this gorgeous time, Maggie and Tyler rounded up their loved ones and tons of great DIY décor for a backyard golden hour wedding! The Indiana couple let their individual styles shine through with Maggie’s two piece Coachella-inspired Winston White gown and Tyler’s trendy-yet-casual H&M groom look. We love the couple’s fresh décor details like their DIY macramé ceremony backdrop and lush eucalyptus tablescapes! Abby Floyd Photography captured every moment of Maggie and Tyler’s wedding perfectly, including stunning couple portraits during the peak of golden hour.

The Couple:

Maggie and Tyler

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Carmel, Indiana

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-1

Tyler and I had decided we wouldn’t communicate the day of the wedding let alone see each other. Except I woke up to the most precious letting from him at my door along with a flower. It was about a specific prayer he prayed for years about his future wife. The letter went on to share some of his favorite qualities about me and why he was so excited to marry me. I laughed and cried but mostly cried!

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-2

I searched high and low for the perfect wedding dress, literally. I wanted something I had never seen before but something that felt very much me and could still pass as a “wedding gown.” I never imagined myself in a traditional gown so I immediately began hunting in boutiques around the globe.

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-3

I wound up buying 3 dresses, had them shipped, and hated them all. Then after losing all hope just two weeks before the big day, I found a two-piece lace Coachella outfit on sale from a boutique in Connecticut. It was only $300! I took the dress in a couple places to make it more fitted and was IN LOVE. I couldn’t have been more obsessed with it! The best part was hearing, “this dress is so YOU!” Goal accomplished!

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-1-2

Initially Tyler and I wanted to elope but obviously that didn’t happen. We are very nontraditional people and wanted to stay as far away from a traditional wedding as possible. Our goal was to make our union about Jesus and not about the people attending, or the flowers, or even just about me (the bride). Of course we wanted to make sure the people attending our wedding enjoyed themselves, but we wanted to shed light on the one who created marriage and his purpose of it – to recognize Christ’s love for the church.

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-12

I took it upon myself to make a massive macrame hanging for our backdrop thinking it would only take two hours, but it actually took 30+ hours and it didn’t turn out anything how I wanted – but we LOVED it! It was perfect.

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-15

Our ceremony was actually planned around golden hour. We wanted the sun peeking through the trees and wanted to experience and capture an almost warm feeling in the woods. We strung lights, lit some candles and let the woods and trees do the talking.

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-13

Tyler and I are very much minimal people. We are pretty tidy and like things fresh and simple, so the wedding was basically driven by that feel. We knew we wanted an outdoor wedding in the woods, but of course I wanted a spot no one had used before. That took some serious hunting! A couple from our church offered their property to us and it was something out of a fairy tale. The land is engulfed in trees and of course had two gorgeous clearings as if the land was made for events. With some candles, Edison bulbs, ferns, eucalyptus, and tiki torches, it wound up looking simply magical and far lovelier than we even imagined! It felt very much us!

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-14

I’ll never forget the look on Tyler’s face when we made eye contact for the first time as I headed down the aisle to meet him. We both just started laughing. It was a precious moment and he was SO HANDSOME!

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-20

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-21

Tyler didn’t want to wear anything traditional and also wanted to feel like himself, so he actually wore black jeans, a top from H&M, lace up boots and a hat! I think all together he spent $20 for his outfit and the rest were pieces he already had. He’s a handsome guy so anything would have looked good on him! The inspiration for our look was, “let’s take what we wear on a normal basis and just jazz it up a bit.” Our wedding couldn’t have been more “Maggie and Tyler.”

laid-back-golden-hour-wedding-in-indiana-22

I tried my best not to get caught up in the little things and to just remember what God was doing between us. Keeping that as our main focus we were able to plan with peace of mind and assurance that no matter what happened on the day of that in the end Tyler and I would be married.

For all you lovely brides reading: be YOU during the process. Pick things you love and will appreciate forever. Don’t let mom take over…don’t let your sister take over…don’t even let your husband take over. You’re probably going to care about this day more than anyone else at the wedding so make sure you’re planning a day that you’ll love forever. Relax, breathe and lean on Jesus. Remember that he brought you two together and you’ll have your man at the end of it all regardless of the decisions you’ll have to make during the planning process.
