Nestled in the woods of Portugal’s Alentejo region – where food, friendship, and celebration abound – TFY Weddings brought to life a wedding inspiration feast at Sublime Comporta to entice and engage all of the senses. Playing with the theme of “Eat Like You Mean It,” the venue’s chef prepared fish, steak, sausage, and a plethora of veggies for the six-person wedding party to relax and enjoy in the rustic and rural environment. Using mismatched pottery, wooden bowls, candles, and a variety of pillows and blankets, the team created a dreamy boho dinner party in the woods that truly embraced the free-spirited and generous nature of Portuguese culture. We love how Golden Days Photography and Videoart beautifully captured this wedding inspiration, particularly the artistry and romance that was present in every detail.
A huge thanks to Junebug member Golden Days Photography for sharing this incredible wedding inspiration! Do you have your heart set on a woodland wedding but not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered with this handy guide that explains how to throw an enchanting woodland wedding!
Inspired by their love of moody PNW vibes, Kendra, Tarik, and their two children went on an intimate elopement adventure at the Othello Tunnels in British Columbia’s Coquihalla Canyon Park. The rustic and natural setting made for some spectacular images by BAKEPHOTOGRAPHY that truly captured the love and care-free nature of this adorable family. The bride looked gorgeous in a mermaid-style Justin Alexander gown that featured a lace bodice, open back, and buttons all the way down to the hem of the train. We love how the bride and groom made their children such a big part of their special day. This is easily one of the sweetest and most intimate elopements we’ve seen!
We wanted to keep our wedding small and intimate. Celebrating the 4 of us – Tarik, Khali, Malik, and myself – as a family was the most important thing for us.
I wanted to bring an elegant and classic vibe to the moody Pacific Northwest. My dress was by Justin Alexander. It featured a beautiful vintage lace detail back with a long train. My favourite part of the dress was the button-up style, running from the top of the dress all the way down to the end of the train. The front had a low plunge without feeling too revealing.
Our photographer, Melissa Baker, was beyond anything I could have hoped for! I approached her after seeing her work on social media. Within the first few minutes of meeting with her, Tarik and I both felt incredibly comfortable with her and were confident she would capture our day perfectly. We were eloping, so I couldn’t ask friends questions about wedding planning since we didn’t want to let the cat out of the bag. Melissa was so sweet and quick to offer up a list of vendors that I could check out and guided me to reputable makeup artists, etc.
For Tarik, the most memorable part of the day was the walk to the venue with his son by his side – the reality of it all. The beautiful fall leaves and the crisp air. For me it was the meet at the bridge. Tarik and our son Malik patiently waiting for Khali and I. It was so surreal that ten years of love had finally brought us to that very moment. The vision of my daughter walking down the bridge before me, laying down petals for me, will stay with me forever. As Khali walked the bridge, I was tucked away in the tunnels looking out at the family our love had created. I still find it hard to put into words the emotions of our special day.
Our best advice is to stay true to your vision. Your heart will tell you what your day should be! It is natural to want to please family members, but you need to stay true to how YOU want to represent your love for each other. Also, I highly recommend a photographer AND a videographer. We were lucky enough to have both, and the video really captures extra emotions and takes you back to the day.
Congratulations to Kendra and Tarik, and a huge thanks to Junebug member BAKEPHOTOGRAPHY for sharing these gorgeous elopement photos! Do you love the moody PNW wedding vibes? This romantic autumnal Portland wedding at Union/Pine has some gorgeous décor and portraits you need to see!
Do you ever feel like reception spaces get all the love, while ceremony spaces are where the magic really happens? We love a stunning reception venue as much as the next blogger, but it’s the place where you say “I do” that we often find most remarkable. Because we like to shake things up a bit, we’re sharing nine of our favorite unique ceremony spaces. From a glass greenhouse to a moonlit stage to an empty swimming pool, get ready to be wowed by these amazing spots for tying the knot!
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Daiane and Steven said “I do” in an intimate ceremony that took place in a treehouse — yes, an actual treehouse! Each one of their guests circled around a tall tree on a wooden platform suspended above the forest floor, making for one of the most unique ceremony spaces we’ve ever seen.
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Kristen and Phillip were inspired by Pixar’s Up when planning their wedding at 440 Seaton in Los Angeles. Event planners Innovate Marketing Group gave the couple’s ceremony a major statement with a faux-aisle runner created with chalk art that read “Youth, Hope, Love” — all themes from the beloved film. We love that a little creativity can take a traditional wedding venue and make it your own!
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: The groom actually pulled this gorgeous library ceremony at Hotel de Sèze together, with help, of course, from the talented Laura Dova Weddings and Weday’s. Is there anything more romantic than tying the knot in a room full of books?
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: The UK is filled with amazing venues, but one of our favorites will also be the Victoria Baths. As you can see, this space is quite literally an empty swimming pool! Seeing a bride walk down the swimming lane as an aisle never gets old.
5. Kayla and Mark’s Natural Science Museum Ceremony
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Kayla and Mark are crazy about the Gem and Mineral Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science — so much that they decided to get married there! The dark wine-colored carpet and walls give this space a gorgeously moody affect, which the bridal party imitated in their wedding day wear. We think Kayla and Mark’s love shines even brighter than those gemstones!
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Emily and Stephen said “I do” in front of a dramatic night sky backdrop, complete with a crescent moon and cafe light stars hanging from the rafters of De La Warr Pavilion. A little bit theatrical, a whole lot romantic, we’ve never been able to get over the cool setup from Emily and Stephen’s ceremony.
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Greenhouse weddings are definitely trending as of late (have you seen our roundup of greenhouse venues?), but Rita and André’s South African greenhouse wedding has that extra something special. The glass greenhouse at Rosemary Hill is exactly what we picture when we think of an authentic greenhouse, which gave their ceremony a natural vibe that totally fit Rita and André as a couple.
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Martha and Tony tied the knot in Joshua Tree, but the scene looked quite a bit different from most of the Joshua Tree weddings we’ve seen. Instead of saying “I do” among the notable desert trees, the creative couple opted for the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Art Museum, where they exchanged vows in front of unique cement structures and eye-catching sculptures.
What Makes This Ceremony Space Unique: Minneapolis’ Aria is one of our favorite venues because it can truly transform to fit the couple. To meet Stephanie and Shane’s needs, Aria became the set of a circus. Stephanie flew into her ceremony on a lyra hoop (does it get more unique than that? We’re not sure it does!) where she and Shane stood atop circus-themed pedestals surrounded by blossoming trees in the industrial space. Your ceremony venue is everything you make of it!
