Minimalist Glam Utah Wedding at Studio Elevn

October 20, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Far from the typical Utah wedding, Amanda and Dominique’s Studio Elevn celebration was full of downtown vibes and a modern chic aesthetic with plenty of relaxed details that embraced the couple’s roots. The historic building featured exposed brick, clean lines, and a creaking staircase perfect for their passionate pre-wedding couple photos. Beautifully coordinated by Belle Bodas and Events, the studio was left untouched to highlight the bright white space and natural light that created an ethereal and sophisticated zone just for the couple and their guests. The fresh green ceremony arch and hanging light fixtures by The Potted Pansy perfectly accentuated the nontraditional minimalist theme and allowed the couple to shine. Photographer Kenzie Dawn captured the emotion, romance and celebration of the day, from the adorable flower girls to the couple’s stunningly sunlit first look. We adore the strawberries and cream waffle cake by Waffle Luv, a whimsical and delicious wedding cake alternative!

The Couple:

Amanda and Dominique

The Wedding:

Studio Elevn, Salt Lake City, Utah

I loved the lace detail of my Rue Deseine, the detail on the long sleeves. My flower girls were dresses to fit their personalities: Nia in a princess dress and Marley more boho. My bridesmaids were in Vera Wang , each dress different but same color. Everything else was very basic I didn’t want to get too wild with accessories.

I will never forget the overall vibe, everyone was relaxed and happy.

I’m not into flowers or florals I’m a minimalist andwanted a lot of clean lines very bare with greenery my colors were neutrals.

I loved the down town studio vibe, super cool old brick building with creaking staircase.

Our ceremony prayer was very personal to us and all the steps we took in preparing for the ceremony, having our kids there to witness.

Processional: Craig Armstrong – Glasgow Love Theme
Recessional: Stevie Wonder – Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours
First Dance: Anthony Hamilton – The Point Of It All

We wanted to stay really true to who we are. We’re not in to the typical “Utah wedding” and we wanted everyone to have fun and enjoy their time with us on our night.

My photographer was amazing! Also we took all the pictures before the ceremony, we were able to eat and drink with our guests and just have a good time seeing everyone and talking with them.

We had a waffle cake instead of a traditional wedding cake, Waffle Luv was my six year old Nias’ choice.

This Wanaka Helicopter Elopement is the Cure for Your Wanderlust

October 19, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Once you land your eyes on this helicopter elopement in New Zealand, I promise you’ll be reaching for your passport. Phillippa and Oliver’s New Zealand elopement was the perfect way for these two’s adventurous spirits to commemorate their love. The two of them read their hand-written vows on top of a mountain, with only their officiant and photographer to witness. Carla Mitchell Photography perfectly captured the intimacy and excitement from their elopement, which will be shared over and over again with family and friends.

The Couple:

Phillippa and Oliver

The Wedding:

Ote Koti Koko Peak, Wanaka, New Zealand

We really wanted to do something different, memorable and romantic – and I think we achieved it with our winter heli-wedding! We really wanted a unique and memorable story for the grand kids too!

The weather definitely restricted us in terms of what we could wear. We knew it was going to be VERY cold so had to plan for that. I knew I wanted a really long train on my dress as I thought it would look stunning in the snow and the tulle on my dress meant I could wear two pairs of thermal leggings and snow boots under my dress without anyone knowing! I also wanted some fur to keep me warm and match the winter scenery! Ollie knew he wanted to wear a navy suit and so when we saw this one, he had to have it!

When we were standing on the edge of the mountain, about to say our vows, our celebrant asked us to take a moment to look out at the view over Lake Wanaka and just take everything in. That was a surreal moment – I’m so glad we did that to take a moment to process our surroundings and all our emotions.

I made my head piece which you can see here in the photos. I searched high and low for something for my hair. I knew I wanted a crown style but couldn’t find anything. I got these pearls on wire from the pound shop and twisted them around to make my headpiece. I loved it and was so glad I wore it as I nearly ditched it at the last minute!

We wrote our own vows which was something we had always known we wanted to do. It was a way of saying what we really wanted to each other. Our wedding celebrant, Glennys, really made us feel like the service was ours. She asked us to choose the wording for ring exchange and we chose a special poem which was also read out.

Do what YOU want to do. I think it’s really important to remember why you’re getting married. It’s a promise between two people. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend, how fancy your table center pieces are or whether you invite great aunt June twice removed who you haven’t seen for 15 years. It’s YOUR day. Don’t be afraid to upset people because they will get over it and you have to do what make you happy. It’s hard to feel like you’re disappointing family members but if they love you, they’ll understand why you make certain decisions about your special day.

We were backpacking around the world when we decided on a mountain top wedding destination. We just wanted to do something memorable and different! It was totally US to do something crazy and spontaneous. We did tell our family our plans to get married in New Zealand and had a wedding blessing and party when we got back home to Guernsey!

The time we spent in the helicopter flying to our location was breathtaking and a ‘real pinch me now’ moment! It looked like a painting and it was hard to believe it was real!

Our photographer, Carla, is AMAZING! She’s young and full of energy so as soon as we met her we were excited to work with her. She was rolling around in the snow and getting wet in order to get the best shots – nothing was too much effort. She’s so, so talented as you can see from our beautiful shots!

Floral Inspired Antigua Wedding at the Santa Clara Ruins

October 18, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

The Santa Clara Ruins created the perfect romantic setting for Bryan and Naomi. After visiting it once before, they knew they would come back and promise their love to each other. With the help of Saguzo Eventos, Gladys and Olga helped Bryan and Naomi pick the rest of the vendors that best fit them and the romantic vibe they were going for. Joseph West Photography captured the day with his unique use of light and shadows.

The Couple:

Naomi and Bryan

The Wedding:

Santa Clara Ruins, Antigua, Guatamala

Take the time to carefully pick your wedding planner (we loved Gladys and Olga) and the vendors that fit your personality and style, and then give them the space to do what they do best. Trust the people you hire. This is the approach we took and the results were amazing.

I wanted to keep it as natural as possible. The dress had to be easily transported and my hair had to feel soft. My accessories were a type of jade found in Guatemala and my hair accessory was given to me by our florist.

Take the most time on logistics and the front end. Once you have the wedding outline set up, do a walk through as a guest, rather than from the point of view of bride/groom. Then do it again. It really helped us uncover any gaps or issues very early on and our wedding day was smooth as a result.

Bryan and I visited Antigua on a Christmas/New Year’s Holiday a few years back, and we loved how romantic and vibrant the city was. It was a perfect landing spot to give our guests a range in their adventure without overtaxing them on too much travel.

The wedding vibe sort of developed on its own when we agreed on the following: “If someone is willing to travel to Guatemala for us, we are going to make it worth their while”. In that spirit we looked to ensure that the country’s culture was represented from the minute they arrived, until the day they left.

We chose to avoid wedding colors and rather go with a color palate to ensure that any flowers or colors integrated would be local and in season. We kept our wedding party attire neutral to adapt and allowed the local and seasonal flowers to take center stage. The first time we saw the flowers was on the day of the wedding!

The praise starts with Gladys and Olga who recommended our vendors after spending a lot of time with us. Everything was so well done. We cannot say enough about our photographers, Joseph and Melissa. Seeing our wedding unfold later through their lens still brings us to tears.

Our photographers, Joseph and Melissa, were incredible before, during and after the wedding. We consider them friends and feel very fortunate to have had them. They understood we wanted flowing “story line” type photos. They went over and beyond and it’s still hard to look at our little still movie without tearing up.
