August, 2014 Throwback – Elegant DIY Wedding at the Historic Prallsville Mills

December 29, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Elegant DIY Wedding at the Historic Prallsville Mills couple's portrait, photo by Storytellers & Co | via junebugweddings.com

Jessica and Mark’s elegant DIY wedding was full of beautiful, natural character, photographed by Storytellers & Co. The historic Prallsvilee Mills venue, adorable details, and the bride’s lace tea-length gown made their wedding original, rural, and chic. The fact that the bride, groom, and family members did nearly everything from invitations, cupcakes to floral arrangements on their own made their wedding day all the more special.

The Couple: Jessica and Mark

The Wedding: Prallsville MillsStockton, NJ

The Inspiration: We both agreed that we wanted our wedding to be simple, natural, and personal to us. We had to go a little out of our area of New Jersey to find the perfect venue, but when we finally did we knew it was the one – a historic grist mill on the Delaware River. Because the building already had so much character (beautiful wooden floors, stone walls, deep-set windows, and even some of the original mill machinery), there was little we felt we needed to do as far as decor. The same rules applied for the fashion. I wanted a simple yet elegant dress, and I found the perfect tea-length, lace cap-sleeved dress in a tiny and lovely bridal shop in the West Village. We wanted everyone to feel like themselves, and not like they were overly done up for a wedding, so we only set a few basic fashion rules to follow and everything turned out perfectly!

Elegant DIY Kentucky Wedding

December 19, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Kelly-and-Topher-Kentucky-Wedding-Jonathan-Gibson (18 of 34)

From the lush, green setting to the delicious barbecue served at the reception, Kelly and Topher’s casual, yet elegant day is definitely representative of everything sweet and beautiful in a Kentucky wedding. The pair even incorporated their french bulldog into the ceremony, which made for some seriously cute photos. The hard work and planning Kelly and Topher put into their wedding paid off in folds; we are loving all of the DIY elements and personal touches seen throughout. Skillfully documented by Jonathan Gibson Studios, Kelly and Topher’s love for each other and for their friends and family could not be anymore apparent. Enjoy!

The Couple: Kelly and Topher

The Wedding: Florence, Kentucky

The Inspiration: “Topher and I are very simple; we wanted a relaxed, outdoor wedding that had a slight rustic feel. We had a lot of DIY projects that we enjoyed creating to get the look we were going for. Even though our wedding was outdoor casual, we didn’t hold back on the special occasion aspect so we went with a formal tux and Kelly’s dream dress!”

Green DIY Wedding in Quebec

December 8, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Eclectic-Backyard-Wedding-30

Melanie and David’s DIY wedding was inspired by vintage elegance and details with personal meaning. Melanie created 350 origami birds to hang around their ceremony spot, which resulted in a beautifully eclectic wedding style. Melanie’s love for hydrangeas sparked the lush color scheme, including emerald accessories for David and his groomsmen. Talented photographer Catherine Giroux captured both the romance and sense of humor throughout the wedding. We love the quirky portraits of the couple posed with antlers in the old barn!

The Couple:

Mélanie and David

The Wedding:

Domaine Évasion Plain Air, Harrington, Quebec

Green DIY Wedding Inspiration:

We decided on a vintage theme because it’s simple but elegant, and I love a man in a hat and bow tie! I decided to do the decoration all myself, it took me a year and a half! I did 350 origami birds to hang in the pergola for the ceremony because I’m honestly touched by the nice origin story of those birds. I choose the color green because I love green Hydrangea flowers, which I also brought from my place for the wedding. We chose this place because all our family members and friends was staying with us for the weekend and it was amazing place in the woods near a very nice small lake, a real paradise in nature! The real peace and love!

The Moments:First of all, to see and feel our strong emotions we had at the ceremony, that we never had before. David was crying, I had difficulty breathing and my legs were shaking! It was so intense to realize that we chose to stay for the rest of our life with that same person! Whatever happen! Wow! But I also can’t forget my brother’s son who decided to speak at the ceremony to tell us how much he love us and to wish us love and happiness. It was a total surprise to everyone!

Venue – Domaine Évasion Plain Air
Catering – Las Olas Traiteur
DJ – Miroslav Dufresnes

Nautical Inspired DIY Wedding in Maine

September 30, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Emily Delamater Photography

Last Spring, I had the ultimate privilege to stand next to my oldest childhood friend and watch her marry her best friend and soul-mate. Drawing inspiration from all things nautical, this DIY wedding was relaxed, perfectly executed, and entirely sentimental. Their wedding was the ultimate celebration of love, filled with close family and friends, incredible food, and non-stop dancing – all captured perfectly by Emily Delamater Photography. I am beyond honored to share Jess and Tom’s nautical inspired DIY wedding with y’all today!

The Couple: Jessica and Tom

The Wedding: Laudholm Farm at Wells Reserve, Wells, Maine

The Inspiration: Since Tom and I are from different cities – we knew that our wedding would include travel for at least some of our guests. Instead of asking half the party to travel – we asked everyone to! Tom and I got married in Wells, Maine close to Ogunquit where Tom’s parents have a beach house. The inspiration for the theme and decor was a combination of laid back New England and nautical.

natural couple's portrait

Whitney and Jonathan’s vintage DIY backyard wedding was a darling and down-to-earth celebration. The bride, groom, and friends and family helped to personalize their special day, from making the signs and floral arrangements to officiating the ceremony. The couple’s charming backyard wedding was beautifully photographed by Heather Elizabeth Photography.

The Couple: Whitney and Jonathan

The Wedding: Private Estate, Healdsburg, CA

The Inspiration: From start to finish, when we planned our wedding we focused on three things: family, fun, and nature. We wanted to find a way to share the things that defined our relationship, our love, and our adventures with the community of people that inspire us to be who we are. We wanted everyone to be a part of our ceremony and celebration.

Intimate DIY Wedding at Barr Mansion in Austin, Texas

August 8, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

I personally witnessed Renna and Josh’s sweet “I do’s” in late spring and knew right away that I wanted to share it with our readers! While the weather was overcast, the lush grounds of Barr Mansion created the perfect space for friends and family to celebrate these two lovebirds. A full DIY wedding right down to the bride’s customized design of the dress and the groom’s handmade guestbook, this Texas affair is beyond perfection – enjoy!

The Goals: Being that Austin was our meeting place and our wedding brought family and friends from near and far, we wanted to give a nod to our Texas roots, and display the eclectic beauty that is Austin. We wanted a consistent theme that matched our personalities as old souls. As such, we wanted a setting that blended old and new in a very elegant and romantic way. In the fonts we selected for our invitations and other materials, we staggered old script and modern/new-age fonts that set the stage for the Barr Mansion style.

The Look: My dress was modified quite a bit from its original design. In searching for the perfect dress, I found the best solution was to customize my own. However, watching the seamstress take a sharp pair of scissors to my dress was an unnerving sight. The end result was a dress that exceeded my expectations!

The Design: Our colors played on our romantic theme with soft blush pinks and pops of green succulent colors bordered by chocolate brown. We incorporated these colors into the accents of the wedding party attire and allowed for actual succulents and flowers to bring in a natural feel. Josh made our Texas “guestbook” himself with reclaimed wood he found and painted. We also made the signature drink signs, flip flop bins, the table assignments, and purchased the LOVE marquee.
