Ashlea and Brad wanted a wedding that was quintessentially “them,” and by designing the decor elements themselves, they achieved a personal and thoughtful celebration unlike any other. From hand-lettered invites, menus, and seating cards to sentimental items carefully curated by the bride herself, every inch of Ashlea and Brad’s Wadsworth Homestead wedding was their dream come true. Luckily, the sweet couple hired photographer Maile Lani to capture each and every detail that made the most important day of their lives so special.

The Couple:

Ashlea and Brad

The Wedding:

Wadsworth Homestead, Geneseo, New York

The Inspiration:

We wanted our wedding to reflect our lifelong relationship and the personality we developed together: to be outdoors and relaxed, but still elegant at the same time. My vision was to have a soft and romantic secret garden wedding. I loved planning and designing my wedding. I am a designer by trade and needed to find the perfect venue that offered character as well as a clean slate for me to build upon. We searched for what seemed like forever, but stumbled upon the a gorgeous manor house in Geneseo, NY, The Wadsworth Homestead. Built in 1804, the Homestead offered both character and lush gardens we were looking for. It took our breath away and we knew no other venue could ever be so “us.”

Rustic DIY Wedding at Rosedew Farm

July 17, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Rustic-DIY-Wedding-at-Rosedew-Farm (22 of 23)

Jennifer and Shaun’s wedding was the the ultimate get-a-way. Their venue, Rosedew Farm in Wales, is made up of five secluded cottages, a perfect stage for this couple’s rustic wedding design. Choosing a light and simple color palette, Jennifer and Shaun let the building’s character speak for itself. We love the stringed lighting, which added a romantic touch to the decor! Silver Birch Photography captured the sweetest moments at this vintage, countryside wedding.

The Couple:

Jennifer and Shaun

The Wedding:

Rosedew Farm, Vale Of Glamorgan, Wales

The Inspiration:

We wanted a wedding that represented us so we looked for a venue that we could decorate and would allow us to create our own perfect day. Rosedew Farm certainly let you do this as you bring and hire everything yourself. We wanted a winter wedding as I love candles so we had lots of candles, lanterns and fairy lights, which looked beautiful and warmed up the place although we were very lucky with the weather. We made a lot of things ourselves I would say our inspiration was vintage/rustic.

The Moments:

Our favourite moment of the wedding day was when we saw each other for the first time that day. I couldn’t wait for Shaun to see me in my dress and to see how handsome he looked in his suit. I started walking down the aisle and looked straight at Shaun. As my eyes met his, his face lit up, I nearly bursted out crying but held it together. I cant describe the feeling I had, it was just like it was me and him in the room, and it finally felt real! From this moment all we did is smile the whole day. Also, the speeches were very moving.

The Couple Recommends:

We also used Plan It UK to run our bar which we would highly recommend. They ran the bar and made sure all drinks were topped up during speeches. I honestly feel that everyone involved in the day of our wedding was outstanding, everything ran so smoothly and we would highly recommend them all. Also the band were outstanding you can check them out on you tube as they don’t have a site at the moment.

Vintage DIY Backyard Wedding in Virginia

June 8, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Natural-Modern-Backyard-Wedding-Virginia-Danielle-Real-Photography (22 of 34)

There is nothing more sentimental than a wedding held a home, and Molly and Michael’s vintage DIY wedding is a perfect example of the warmth and beauty that can come from a backyard wedding. The forest setting couldn’t have been more romantic paired with Molly and Michael’s vintage wedding style. Danielle Real Photography captured such extraordinary images of the community-driven celebration, from a prayer with the bride and her bridesmaids before the ceremony to family style dinner after the pair were pronounced husband and wife.

The Couple:

Molly and Michael

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Virginia

The Inspiration:

We are both inspired by nature, American history, and family and friend togetherness. We were kind of going for modern minimalist meets old fashioned back yard barn raising. Clean, crisp greens and naturals, along side touches of vintage items all wrapped up in a community driven celebration.

The Moments:

Besides the obvious of the moment we became husband and wife, we most enjoyed the time we got to spend all gathered around eating dinner together. We loved it because everyone chipped in on this part of the celebration by bring a favorite dish to share, so everyone was ‘oooing” and “ahing” over the love and skill put into making the food along with sharing recipes and time spent in the kitchen. In our lives, nothing beats spending time together, loving each other, and sharing food well made.

The Couple Recommends:

Danielle Real was AMAZING. She was fun, professional, and gave us exactly what we were hoping for in a photographer. She listened to what we wanted, but also gave suggestions. She was also really great at helping us pose to get the shots that we wanted. Everyone at the wedding commented on how wonderful she was. My sister in law liked her so much too that she hired her for her wedding this September.

We also loved the work that Janine Coleman did for our Save the Dates and Invitations. She listened very carefully to what we wanted and executed the exact design that we were wanting.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Danielle Real Photography
Venue – Private Residence
Floral Design – Wollam Gardens
Catering – Hopscotch Coffee Roasters
Bridal Accessories – Eleven Skies Studio
Bridesmaids’ Apparel – Target
Groom’s Apparel – Unionmade
Rings – Rust
Rentals – Party PerfectA Daily Something

Molly and Michael’s intimate reception truly looks like a family dinner, which is exactly what they wanted to achieve on their special day. DIY Farm Wedding in Sweden + Film

May 29, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

DIY-Farm-Wedding-in-Sweden-+-Film (9 of 25)

Wanting to create the most special day of their lives, Keith and Emmelie decided to host their DIY farm wedding at Emmelie’s childhood home in Vastana, Sweden. Choosing a place so meaningful, the couple spent two years prepping the barn for the big day! White paper lanterns hung from the ceiling and lights wrapped the wooden pillars. Their day was all about the details, even down to the intricate blue designs on white dishes, which dressed the tables. Every detail was placed with love, even the bride’s mother personally chose and hand painted the chairs. Making sure to capture the breathtaking day at the barn, Shutterbox Films recorded the moments perfectly!

The Couple:

Keith and Emmelie

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Vastana, Sweden

The Inspiration:

We got married at my childhood home which is a farm in northern Sweden. My dad grew up there too and it meant a lot to us to be able to have our wedding in a place that is so meaningful to us. It took two years of hard work from the whole family, especially my parents, to get the barn ready for hosting a wedding and we both spent two summers up there working towards our wedding. It was a real DIY job and a true labour of love.

The “theme” was very much to use what we already had there on the farm, and for it to be inspired by the surroundings in which it was held. Most of the “props” used were things we found around the farm and in the many outhouses. We didn’t have a colour theme or anything, we just felt like letting the nature surrounding us and the farm do most of the the talking. My mum got most of the chairs from flea markets and painted them all, she also picked all the lingonberries and the chanterelles for the favours.

The Moments:

Gosh it is so hard to choose one moment, the whole day just felt like a dream. But our favourite moment was when the dance floor erupted into total dance chaos straight after our first dance and then in the end of the party, at around 3am in the morning, our friend and dj chose to play All You Need Is Love by Beatles, and everyone circled us really tight and sang along together with us. It felt like our hearts would burst, and it was just one of those moments we will never ever forget. It was magical. Another spontaneous thing that happened was that we finished the wedding with a 4am skinny dip in the lake.

The Couple Recommends:

We were really happy with all our vendors and wedding pros and we decided early to only book people we really like and feel we wouldn’t mind inviting as guests if that makes sense. Our fantastic videographer team, Lee and Dawn was awesome, and our photographer Laura rocked it. They made everyone feel at ease and had such a relaxed way about them.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Laura McCluskey
Venue – Private Residence, Vastana, Sweden
Floral Design – Soderbergs (hair crowns)
Catering – Hildings Krog
Cake – Le Petit Cafe Lidkoping

DIY Nature Inspired Wedding in Scotland

May 11, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

DIY-Nature-Inspired-Wedding-Scotland-Mark-Pacura (18 of 39)

Sweet, bespectacled couple Susan and Darren were married in a nature inspired wedding in Banff, Scotland. The pair were surrounded by friends and family who contributed love and talent to bring the celebration to fruition. The DIY elements and quirky details perfectly embodied Susan and Darren’s relationship, all of which Mark Pacura Photography so impeccably captured throughout the day.

The Couple:

Susan and Darren

The Wedding:

Boyndie Kirk, Banff, Scotland

The Inspiration:

We didn’t really want a theme as such, but more a bringing together of styles and things that represented us. I guess if we were going to name the style it would be the ‘outside in.’ We’re both very much inspired by nature in our personal and professional lives and we wanted that to show. Moss, botanical elements, foliage all featured throughout the wedding in shades of coral, gold and sea foam, with a little nod to the 20s, I guess, for our attire. Our wedding took place in an old Kirk mid way through being lovingly restored by Darren‘s mum and dad (technically still a building site at the time, but Darren‘s dad worked some magic and it looked beautiful ) so old doors temporarily clad the walls and made backdrops in the garden. There was a holistic approach to the wedding which set the overall feel; relaxed and honest.

Design plays a huge role in our daily lives so we definitely wanted to tackle all we possibly could ourselves (which was pretty challenging), however it was also important to involve people we value most in our lives and have them be a part of its creation. That was far more important to us than having the most perfectly executed day, which ended up being pretty awesome! But to get to say my mum and best friends helped individualize my wedding dress and make the flower girl dresses, that my brother chauffeured me to the venue before giving me away, that my sister, friends and family contributed to the dessert table, well that means everything.

The Moments:

There was lots of precious moments, it’s hard to pick just pick one. Saying our vows was extremely special, we got to tell each other and all our friends and family in our own words just how much we mean to one another. Our nieces and nephews made us so proud they were so well behaved and played their part in the wedding amazingly. Then there was the the first dance…and every dance after that, the dance floor was never empty, we danced and danced and sang all night. Just having everyone important in our lives in the one place was very special. We had a ball.

The Couple Recommends:

There were really only a few outside contributors. Mark our photographer was lovely, he did a great job. He didn’t have an easy task as the photography was hugely important to us and we really wanted our day to be captured beautifully and honestly and he did that very well. Bex who made our rings did the best job. She took my Gran’s wedding ring and from that made both our rings; we’re not huge fans of wearing jewelry but we LOVE them.

Vintage DIY Wedding in Little Rock

March 13, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Your wedding is your special day and should represent your personal style. For Hannah and Michael creating a day that was authentically them meant hand making their vintage styled wedding decor. A friend of the couple designed the wild flower bouquets and added personalized florals to the tables’ centerpieces. Friends and family of the couple worked together to create the perfect wedding day for Hannah and Michael. Adding to the natural feel, lanterns hanging from trees lit their outdoor wedding beautifully. Amazing photographer Akhil Singh captured the breathtaking moments the couple spent on their big day.

The Couple:

Hannah and Michael

The Wedding:

Private residence in Little Rock, Arkansas

The Inspiration:

We just wanted it to be so authentic and so us! We just wanted it to be a genuine celebration of love and Jesus and all those who have been a part of our journey. It was simple, bright, intimate (despite the large crowd) and so sweet and fun!

The Moments:

I had this surreal moment while Michael was saying his vows and I could see my family on the front row and all of the girls and guys who have believed in us, prayed for us, and wrapped us in love. I couldn’t help but cry. My heart could not contain the joy! I truly felt Jesus smiling at us, His kids, just following him on yet another adventure- one that will last our lifetime!

DIY Golf Course Wedding in Ontario

February 19, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Coral-Golf-Course-Wedding-Blair-Gable (14 of 26)

We love a venue that lends itself to personalized décor by the bride and groom on their big day. Carly and Dan’s golf course wedding was looking a little sparse before Carly took on the project of crafting over 100 coral pompoms to hang around their ceremony and above their reception. The soft peach decorations perfectly matched the bridesmaids’ dresses, and looked lovely with the bride’s style for her wedding day. Blair Gable Photography masterfully captured the carefully arranged details, as well as the sweetest moments shared between the newlyweds as they said I Do.

The Couple:

Carly and Dan

The Wedding:

Crimson Ridge Golf Course, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

The Inspiration:

We decided to get married in my hometown, Sault Ste. Marie, even though we live in Toronto. A big reason was that “the Sault,” as locals know it, has a much slower pace and has a lot of natural beauty. We wanted to take advantage of that in a big way, so we chose to get married outside on a golf course on the edge of town. That beautiful outdoor setting really drove much of the inspiration for the rest of the day. We wanted the setting to speak for itself, so we tried to keep things relatively simple — white tablecloths, no sky-high centerpieces and a lot of greenery.

It seemed like the tent was missing something until I came up with the idea to dress it up with hundreds of peach coloured pom poms, which were draped all around the room. I had to make nearly 500 peach pom poms to ensure we had enough! There were a few moments where I wanted to kick myself for embarking on such a massive project — the suitcase I took when I traveled from Toronto to the Sault was filled ENTIRELY with pompoms — but it was worth it!

The Moments:

Having our wedding in Sault Ste. Marie meant that a lot of our friends and family traveled to be with us for the whole weekend. So we were extremely lucky because our wedding day really turned into an entire four-day weekend of memories and fun. We rented a hospitality suite in the host hotel and stocked it with food and drinks. It became the hub of activity over the weekend and meant that a lot of the guests who started out as strangers were friends by the time the wedding day rolled around. That made the day so much more special and memorable for our guests too.

During our wedding reception dinner, when the room was buzzing with chatter and everyone was enjoying food and wine, Dan and I couldn’t help but look around and be struck by how many of our loved ones were there, and how special it was to have all of those people in one place to celebrate and make such great memories. My mom passed away a few years ago and her absence loomed large at the wedding. So we do not take for granted how special it was to have the love and support from everyone under the tent that night.

The Couple Recommends:

It is really hard to single anyone out, since pretty much everyone we worked with exceeded our expectations. But Annelise and Sarah, the venue coordinator and the decor/day-of coordinator did so much to make sure every detail was taken care of so that we had nothing to worry about and could truly enjoy ourselves on our wedding day.

And Blair, our photographer, captured the wedding day better than anyone else could have. I must have looked up dozens of wedding photographers, but when I saw his work, I was really impressed. Not only did he deliver really amazing photos, but he also worked around a fairly rigid and tight post-ceremony schedule and had all of our edited photos back to us the week we returned from our honeymoon.

DIY Brazilian Wedding

January 30, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

DIY-Garden-Party-Wedding-Gustavo-Marialva-32

When couples start planning their weddings, they often describe their vision as being very personal or representative of their personalities as a couple. Luana and Aruanã couldn’t have done a better job creating a day that reflected their fun, offbeat style. The Brazilian wedding came together with multiple DIY projects completed by the bride and groom, as well as their talented loved ones. To ensure that every carefully crafted detail was captured, Luana and Aruanã hired the extraordinarily talented Gustavo Marialva to photograph and Oui Films to film the day.

The Couple:

Luana & Aruanã

The Wedding:

Recanto do Barão, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Inspiration:

We were going for a vintage backyard alternative shabby chic wedding. We wanted to have a wedding that looks personal and had a lot of our lives and personality in it. A couple of days before the wedding our cats destroyed half of the wedding favors succulents that we prepared. So we had to get more, and wrap them all over again! Also we underestimated the work of opening 25 pompons the day before the wedding. Sure takes patience, but they ended up awesome! Our own fluffy clouds! We also painted 150 gold bottles for the flowers, did ceremony bells, pompoms, brownies, finished the invitations with sealing wax and tags, and painted golden frames to hang on the tree. My mom sewed many felt hearts and she also did crochet towels for the main ceremony table and other tables. My grandmother sewed the ring bearer pillow.

The Moments:

Our favorite moment was the wedding vowels. It was a lot of joy and emotion. We wrote our own and it was probably the most magical part of the day! The photocabine also gave the garden a cool environment because it was inside a vintage VW Kombi car.

The Couple Recommends:

All of our vendors were exceptional! Viviane Gratz was outstanding in helping our wedding vision come to life. She helped at every step of the giving ideas and executed everything beautifully on our wedding day. Our photographer Gustavo Marialva captured countless great photos. His photos are completely beautiful and capture the feel, love and spirit of the day!

Ethereal DIY Wedding in Dorset, England

January 15, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Ethereal-English-Wedding-Sam-Docker-34

A wedding as ethereal as this must be an actual fairy tale. Vanessa and Steffen looked like princess and prince as they exchanged vows at their wedding in Dorset, England. The pair were engaged for three years before saying I Do, giving them ample time to plan and collect decor for their dream wedding. Along with decor, Vanessa and Steffen collected a team of the best wedding professionals Northern England has to offer, including Samuel Docker Photography. Samuel beautifully captured the enchanting wedding celebration and the results will have you daydreaming for the rest of the week.

The Couple:

Vanessa and Steffen

The Wedding:

Plush Manor, Dorset, England

The Inspiration:

After years of being engaged, I had pretty clear ideas of what I liked and didn’t like, and I realized that trying to sum up the wedding theme as if it were a brand essence was not going to work — I wanted a little bit of all the things we like to be present in a way or another at the wedding, even if that meant not always being consistent. So we created and bought pretty much everything ourselves, from the stationery to the table centerpieces, including most of the flowers, some of the food, and all the decoration.

There was no color scheme per se, however we kept away from harsh or bright colors and opted for soft pinks, white, purple, green, grey and gold hues instead. All in all, our wedding reflected who we are – our love of good food, wine and champagne, old books and vintage decoration, mixed with pretty flowers, romantic candles and glitter for a touch of glamour. Altogether, this created a rather whimsical and feminine but also vintage and pared down look for the day.

I wanted my own look to make a similar statement, and so I worked with the dress designer, make-up artist and florist to pull together an ethereal yet elegant look. One thing I am particular proud of is how I partly designed a gorgeous dress with the team at Naomi Neoh Studio, in a very light blush color which suited my (very) fair skin better than usual ivory tones. The dress had structure and a full skirt, but the silk chiffon was flowing very nicely as I moved around (contrary to many other dresses I had tried on which seemed to have a life of their own) and the lace sleeves were soft and comfortable. Steffen, on the other hand, looked very dapper all day and night in a fitted three-piece Hugo Boss suit and brown accessories. I seriously think he out-shone the bride!

The Moments:

I bet a lot of people say the same thing, but the ceremony ended up being the most emotional, memorable, magical part of the day. We had an Anglican Church wedding, in a small village church we’ve attended for a little less than a year now. The village we married in, Piddlehinton, is set amongst the rolling hills of Dorset (about 3 hours southwest of London). Some of the village inhabitants and regular churchgoers joined us for the ceremony, which made it all the more special to us as they’d welcomed us so well into their community.

The Couple Recommends:

Our florist Jessie was the most organized, thoughtful, reliable person I’ve ever dealt with, and she and her team are extremely talented. Our caterers Red Herring impressed us all day long – the food was unbelievably high-standard. I would not expect more from a fancy restaurant and they pulled all of this despite our very last-minute arrangements. And finally, Sam our photographer was a delight to work with. Everyone loved him and realized how great a difference it makes when your wedding suppliers seem to enjoy the day too and have their share of fun.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Samuel Docker Photography
Ceremony Venue – Piddlehinton Church
Reception Venue – Plush Manor
Floral Design – West Dorset Wedding Flowers
Catering – Red Herring
Live Music – The Sparks
Hair & Makeup Artist – Makeup by Jodie
Wedding Dress – Noami Neoh

Thanks to Samuel Docker for sharing this glamorous wedding in Dorset with Junebug! Love Sam’s photography as much as we do? You’ve got to see Holly and Simon’s rustic organic farm wedding.
