This Modern Rustic Wedding Proves There’s No Place Like Home for Getting Married

February 11, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

There is something so uniquely romantic about backyard weddings, and Dana and Dustin’s rustic wedding at home is no exception. This California couple wanted nothing more than to make their guests feel at home. So, with the expert guidance of LVL Weddings & Events, they transformed the bride’s childhood ranch in the rustic wedding venue dreams are made of. The day started with the coziest ceremony on the front steps of the ranch house and ended with a reception in the converted horse arena, complete with earthy floral and feather arrangements from Oak & the Owl, custom leather and woods decor, and tons of natural textiles. Of course, no home-grown celebration would be complete without a killer bluegrass band and the very best comfort food. We love how Emily Magers Photography and Royal Films truly captured the intimate and community-oriented vibe of this gorgeous California wedding!

Dana and Dustin

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Anaheim, California

The rustic and natural setting of the home I grew up in was the most special place we could think of to celebrate our big day. We met in Montana and love the outdoors, so we wanted the vibe to have a rustic yet romantic feel.

From the wedding planner: We transformed the horse arena into an intimate reception space just steps away from their family horses. Textures was a big focus of the decor plan and was brought to life with wood thank you notes, leather coasters, sequin southwest style table runners, an eclectic mixture of rugs and hides, and hammered steel napkin rings. The style was truly reflective of their personalities and the furnishings of their home decor.

From the wedding planner: My favorite decor element was their custom leather hide seating chart with guest names and their logo in hand calligraphy and adorned with a floral box at the base. Standing tall alongside the infinity pool, it was a striking detail that guests thoroughly enjoyed during cocktail hour our on the back patio.

Indigo and Copper Bohemian Wedding at Casino San Clemente

February 10, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Angela and Colin’s California wedding at Casino San Clemente was everything we love about DIY weddings and so much more! The bride tapped into true bohemian style when creating the macrame and tapestry hangings, the freeform bouquets and centerpieces, the hand-painted signs, the gift teepee, and the copper “taco bout a party” board to display their llama keychain favors. As if that wasn’t enough, she even learned the shibori fabric dying technique to create custom indigo napkins for each guest! To Have & To Hold Weddings did a fantastic job helping this crafty bride pull together her bohemian vision. We’re so grateful Story By Image was there to capture every moment of this lovely California wedding!

The Wedding:

Casino San Clemente, San Clemente, California

My fiancé gave me a necklace with my birthstone in it. He was so excited to give me something beautiful to wear to remember our special day forever. I gave him a sherpa Levi’s jean jacket to prepare for our honeymoon in Portland and a ukulele! We were obsessed with a TV show where the main character loses her fiancé before they get married, and he gifted her a ukulele on her birthday, to remember him by. We always talked about having one to remember each other by.

Our whole ceremony was the highlight of our day, but the moment we walked down the aisle was the most memorable. We were nervous to be the center of attention during the ceremony. The moment I walked down the aisle, nothing and no one else mattered. Our eyes were fixed on each other the whole time. Our tears grew fiercer and our hearts ached to be with each other the closer I walked towards him. All we’ve waited for and prayed for was finally here, and we felt privileged to be able to stand before each other without hesitation, knowing that this was exactly what was meant for us. It was surreal to see we’ve met our end, but also our beginning. I prayed for so long to meet my husband, and as I walked to him I realized the day I had prayed for was finally here. My heart was full and joyful!

I had a few surprises for my fiancé for the wedding ceremony, I had dreamed of having a veil, but financially it was not possible. I started to save my own little stash and bought a veil without telling him. Since we were doing a first look before the ceremony, I wanted to re-create a first look during our ceremony. So I wore the veil for our ceremony and surprised him as I walked down the aisle.

We gave out llama key chains to all of our guests. My fiancé has an obsession with llamas, and my family brought some llamas from Bolivia. It was the perfect way to represent my heritage and my fiancé’s obsession and for our guests to remember to think of us when ever they look at their keychain.

This Prospect House Wedding is Your Guide to Geometric Decor

February 10, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We still haven’t picked our jaws up off the ground after seeing the DIY geometric decor these Texas cuties created for their Prospect House wedding! Between the copper heart wall hangings and the diamond origami chandelier, Laurene and Travis nailed the modern minimalist vibe they were after. With the addition of simple white and green florals from Wild Bunches Floral, they also brought a natural feel to the indoor spaces that complemented the countryside that surrounded their venue. The decor wasn’t the only thing that blew us away: the beaded back on Laurene’s Galina Signature gown was a work of art! Jeff Gilmer Photography outdid himself with this one, capturing every moment of this gorgeous Texas wedding with a unique perspective and exceptional attention to detail.

We wanted something modern and non-church like for our wedding. Prospect House has a wonderful modern aesthetic that requires little to no modification. The whole venue is thoroughly thought out to work perfectly for a wedding, down to the way the sun sets at the ceremony site. The vibe of the venue fit in perfectly with our personalities and the minimalistic yet natural vibe we were looking for.

I ended up wearing a dress I thought I would never wear! We had a whole minimalistic vibe going, and so I tried on several very clean and modern white dresses. They were absolutely gorgeous dresses, but I didn’t look or feel like a bride. The bridal consultant eventually suggested a dress I never would have picked, but it turned out to be the perfect one! The intricate beading was far from clean and modern, but it made me feel like a gorgeous sparkling bride. I accessorized it with earrings and a bracelet from a wonderful designer, Borcik, that uses natural stones in a minimalistic way. I also changed into a sleeveless white jumpsuit with a wide copper belt mid-reception so that I could get my dancing on!

The ceremony was the most memorable part of the entire day! We had a close friend serve as our officiant, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. It became so personal for us, so much more real and important. Travis and I wrote our own vows, and we did not hear them until we were in the exact same moment on that altar together. Hearing what he had to say to me and being able to tell him how I felt, in front of everyone, was such an incredibly loving feeling.

We DIYed basically everything! The bride made copper geometric hearts for the wall decorations. These were made from wire, straws, and spray paint. They ended up looking like actual copper piping, and we were very pleased with them. She also made diamond origami garland to hang from a beautiful wind vane that is inside the venue. The wind vane moves with the breeze, so the garland flowed throughout the whole night and it was beautiful. Those were made from copper card stock paper and twine. We also DIYed photo booth props, a large timeline sign, and all the table signs and menus.

We have three pieces of advice for engaged couples: 1.) Hire a wedding planner! Even if it’s just a day-of coordinator, they are worth every penny. It is so helpful to have an extra helping hand that isn’t part of the wedding party or family. It definitely makes the whole day run smoothly. 2.) Invest in a good photographer. Good wedding photos give you a way to hold onto all the love that is shared on your wedding day. 3.) Make sure you eat!
