This Private Property was Transformed into the Loveliest Victoria Wedding

March 27, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

If this Victoria wedding is any indication, you definitely don’t need an official wedding venue to have the wedding of your dreams! In fact, Caitlyn couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else but her parents’ vacation home, so she flexed every creative muscle she had to DIY a spectacular backyard wedding complete with a ceremony overlooking the rolling hills and a half-covered, half-open marquee tent that made for some fabulous rainy reception moments. Caitlyn and Connor’s family and friends worked tirelessly to make their vision come to life, helping with everything from building the arbor that Flowers by Nici Thompson covered in moody blooms to making 100+ custom cookies for the favors. As you can imagine, the bride’s eye for design translated into her bridal look, as well, with a gorgeous lace gown from Made With Love Bridal that she covered with the prettiest pink jacket for the reception. Our hats off to Daniel Milligan Photography for capturing every nuance of this perfectly curated wedding despite all the ups and downs the weather created, from the overcast ceremony to the dance party in the pouring rain at the end of the reception.

The Couple:

Caitlyn and Connor

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Victoria, Australia

As a function venue owner and event planner, I put a reasonable (or unreasonable – depending on who you ask) amount of pressure on myself to ensure our wedding was unique, special and one to remember. My very patient then fiancé would definitely say I was frustratingly painful, overthinking every little detail. I would say that everything was just very…considered. Yes, I wanted a fun relaxed wedding, but I also wanted every detail to be perfect. I was told more than once that no one will notice the small details, which is true for the most part, but for me, I needed it to all work together.

With the wedding being located in the paddock, it was exposed to all the elements. I don’t think any of us had looked at the weather apps on our phones so much in our lives! We eventually came to the conclusion that the weather was going to do what it wanted and we would just have to roll with it. And that is exactly what happened! We got it all. Beautiful sunshine and heat in the morning while getting ready, then an hour or two out from ceremony, a heavy down pour, leaving my bridesmaids stranded setting up the last few details in the marquee with their hair and make up done. Come ceremony time, I started walking down the aisle when a few drops of rain came down. I looked up to the sky and said, “Please don’t rain.” Everyone laughed and that’s all the rain we got during the ceremony, thank goodness!

The photographer and videographer were actually loving the ominous clouds. Unfortunately, our cocktail hour was wrapped up a little quicker than I would have liked because we got more rain. We all moved into the marquee. Later in the evening, after all formalities were done and everyone was having a fab time on the dance floor, a torrential storm hit. You assume that would be a party ender, but not with our family and friends. Dancing in the rain was so much fun and made for another very memorable part of the day!

Apart from marrying my best friend in front of all our loved ones, I would say our favorite part of the day was watching all the guests find their seat in the marquee by going to their designated table and finding a personalized 4×4 black and white photo of either Connor or I (or both) with that guest. Connor and I spent hours collecting photos of us with our guests at a special occasion we had shared with them over the years we have known them. Some were recent pictures, some from when we were young. The faces on the guests when they saw the photos were amazing. Everyone laughed, smiled, and started reminiscing with each person at the table about where their photos were taken. I think it highlighted to our guests how grateful we are of our precious memories we have with everyone invited.

There was a lot of DIY’ing, and I loved every bit of it. The beauty of holding the wedding at my parents’ property allowed us to be hands on with designing and styling. I had a vision in mind for the style and setup and spent the year leading up to the day sourcing most of the decor and some furniture elements I had seen in photos. My friends and I put together all the reception flowers and I made the hanging foliage install in the marquee. My bridesmaids and I set and styled the entire marquee and outdoor area. My dad made the timber arbour, which my florist styled with the most beautiful floral arch. My cousin designed and created the large signage. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law made 140 personalized heart cookies as wedding favours, and my MIL even made 140 linen napkins with metallic overlocking. They were gorgeous and a huge DIY project that I was beyond grateful she took on for us!

We had looked at a number of venues in Melbourne, and all were lovely in their own way. But none of them gave us that overwhelming feeling that we needed to get married there. My heart and mind kept leading me back to my parents’ holiday property in Eildon. Fair to say, it took a little convincing to get my fiancé, his parents, and my parents onboard. They were all quite concerned of the work involved to make this happen. But thanks to my persuasive ways and sheer confidence in my own event planning abilities, we decided to go for it! I was well aware of what lied ahead and knew full well that choosing a private property wedding was no way the cheaper or easy option.

This Colorful Starling Lane Vineyard Wedding Reception Gives Us Major Wonderland Vibes

March 26, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Calli and Sean’s Starling Lane Vineyard wedding celebration is full of vintage charm. These two previously eloped and opted for an intimate post-elopement celebration with their closest family and friends. Although it was small in size, it was big in celebration. Calli and Sean turned to Blue Lily Events to help with planning and executing a fun celebration with all the summer vibes. Sean wore the most perfect Indochino light blue suit for the occasion, and Calli looked stunning in her vintage-inspired Anna Campbell wedding dress and hair accessory. With so many pops of color, unique details, and a subtle nod to the 1920s, Luke Liable Photography was there to photograph all of the goodness.

The Couple:

Calli and Sean

The Wedding:

Starling Lane Vineyard, Victoria, BC, Canada

Getting a planner for us was a no brainer, even with our small gathering. Its just smart to get all the right people in your corner.

Sean and I were adamant on color for our day. Sean really didn’t want a black suit, but instead something that would go well with the venue and the end of summer vibe, which is why he chose a nice lighter blue suit with iridescent swordfish shoes. I originally was going for a simpler look, but when I tried on my Anna Campbell dress, I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I love how the dress was understated but still had a Gatsby vibe to it. The crystals and beading were beautiful but not overdone, with the bottom of the dress’s light fabric. My favorite piece was a tie between my Anna Campbell headpiece and my Irregular Choice cat shoes; as crazy cat people, I had to represent.

We really wanted something cozy, outdoors with color and had a greenhouse. When we visited Starling Lane, it was right after a snow fall but we knew instantly this was the right place. It had so much charm and warmth.

We really wanted it to be a very personal day. Sean and I are fairly private people, which is why we chose to elope, but we still wanted to do something to celebrate with everyone. We wanted our reception day to just be a day we were surrounded by everyone we loved. We wanted the day to not only be about our love for each other, but about our love for everyone present as well. It was important to us that it was relaxing, informal and full of warmth, so we wanted to make sure we were working with people who had the same vision and vibe.

Working with Luke was great! He was so easy to work with and had some great ideas. He got our vibe right away and it was very relaxing to work with him. He was respectful of our time, and didn’t intrude at all with us and our guests.

Tam from Blue Lily Events was amazing! She was thoughtful and super patient. She went above and beyond to help us with the planning and execution of our day. Never once did she say she couldn’t do something, or scoff at any idea. She gave our small intimate event the same amount of attention and dedication as she would have a larger event.

Minimalist Chic St. Paul Wedding at Paikka

March 26, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Katharine and Caleb’s vision for a modern and minimalist wedding came true at Paikka. The event space’s industrial vibes went hand-in-hand with the minimalist decor and Kindred Blooms florals that decorated the space. As if Katharine and Caleb’s ceremony and reception weren’t stylish enough on their own, Katharine rocked a modern wedding dress from The White Room and Caleb stayed true to his style by wearing deep khaki pants and a button down from ASOS. There are so many things to obsess over, but we are partial to the burnt orange jumpers from Movint that the bridesmaids are doing a favor by wearing – hello, heart eyes! Photographer Matt Lien captured the day and he did not disappoint – get ready for an abundance of joy spilling out from the photographs and one of the cutest reactions after a first kiss to date!

The Couple:

Katharine and Caleb

The Wedding:

Paikka, Saint Paul, Minnesota

Caleb actually came over to my apartment and picked me up on the morning of our wedding and the two of us went to a secluded coffee shop. We wanted to begin the crazy day just being content in each others presence. While we were there we exchanged gifts – Caleb gave me a gold bracelet and dainty gold earrings, I gave him a cognac leather Fossil wallet. And of course, both being words people, we exchanged letters.

The thing that ended up being the most memorable for us was, throughout the day we made a conscious choice to stop everything we were doing and take in everything happening around us. This allowed us to feel the gravity of the day and the gift that it all was to us. I get giddy just thinking about it!

For our wedding party, the girls wore burnt orange jumpsuits and cream colored mule slides. The boys wore khaki pants, untucked white button downs with off white bowties, and off white converse sneakers.

Our whole wedding day fashion look was definitely true to our typical style. We both wanted to just feel like ourselves on our wedding day and not overly done up. My wedding day look was minimalistic, chic and timeless. I’m not a big girlie girl, so I knew from the get-go that I wanted a really simple dress. To go along with the theme, my makeup was also very simple, sans a pop of burnt red on my lips! My dress was the most comfortable thing ever, I wish I could just wear it everyday.

The thing that was the most important to us was making sure each part of our wedding was true to who we are. And maintaining our quirky ideas while still hearing out the opinions of our loved ones!

We both have very specific taste, but along with that are also really low maintenance. From the start, we knew we wanted a really minimalistic, unique vibe – but we were sure to be adaptable and easy going when something didn’t fit our vision exactly.

MATT IS LITERALLY A DREAM. He was laid back and easy going while simultaneously being on top of things and always in control of the situation. It was so clear that he is a pro and knows exactly what he is doing but it also felt like we were just bopping around town with one of our best friends, occasionally taking photos. We have nothing but the best things to say about Matt.
