These LA Foodies Planned the Cozy Boho Wedding of Our Dreams at Sogno del Fiore

November 5, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We love when foodies plan a wedding because you end up with the most epic reception vibe like this one at Sogno del Fiore! Niki and Mark focused on food, fun, and authenticity for their wedding day and the result was nothing short of stunning. Their boho style was apparent from the very beginning, with Niki rocking an intricate Rue De Seine gown, Mark looking handsome with floral-print details, and pampas grass accentuating very nook and cranny of the gorgeous winery resort. This crafty bride styled and designed all the boho details, and Vanessa Noel Events helped bring the dream look to life on their special day. (Seriously, just wait ’til you see their sweetheart table!) From the couple’s sweet first look to their heart-melting photos with their Corgi groomsman, Nicole Leever Photography totally captured the pure joy and excitement of this California wedding!

The Couple:

Niki and Mark

The Wedding:

Sogno del Fiore, Santa Ynez, California

We wanted to make sure we planned the most epic party of our lives. We made sure to incorporate all of our favorite things that are personal to us. If there was a wedding tradition we didn’t like, we threw it out the window. Staying true to ourselves and what we enjoy was very important to us.

We also wanted our wedding day to not only be about us but our family and friends that traveled from near and far to celebrate with us. Pleasing our guests was a top priority for us. Whether it be the transportation we provided from the local hotels to a wide food and bar selection to cozy blankets, heaters, and fire pits burning to keep guests warm once the sun went down. We wanted to nail all of the details to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves!

Our first look before the ceremony was definitely the most memorable part of the day. Seeing each other was a huge rush of excitement and an overload of emotions. Mark couldn’t stop staring and I couldn’t stop smiling. That moment really felt like the beginning of our beautiful adventure!

We read our own vows to each other which was one of our favorite parts of the day. They were very personal, passionate, funny and heartwarming. Our 2-year-old Corgi, Harvey, was also a groomsman in the wedding. He walked down the aisle with one of the bridesmaids and stood with the groomsmen (or actually, laid down in the grass) during the ceremony. I also surprised Mark by walking down the aisle to “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty. He is one of Mark‘s all-time favorite musicians and 2 weeks before our wedding we were at his last show at the Hollywood Bowl right before he passed away. I already planned on walking down to that song, but it had even more meaning after Tom Petty’s passing.

Our best wedding planning advice would be to include each other in all decisions and know where to compromise. We were lucky that we have very similar taste and interests but it is definitely important to include elements that are important to both of you. And don’t stress if everything does not go exactly how you envisioned. Your day will turn out perfect because it’s your special day, and no one knows if something turns out different than you planned.

One of my bridesmaids helped DIY the table numbers and wood signage around the venue. For the table numbers, she cut raw wood into squares, stained them dark, spray painted house address numbers bronze and attached them to the wood. They turned out exactly how we wanted! For the wood signage, she took decals created by our invitation designer and attached them to different raw wood pieces, some stained and some natural.

Our wedding day menu incorporated all of our favorite foods. We are self-proclaimed foodies and wanted to create a menu that you would find at a cool, trendy restaurant in LA. Finding Field to Table Events & Catering was a dream come true! They were so easy to work with and helped us create our dream wedding food. We wanted to stay away from traditional wedding fare and have all of our favorite things.

This Ebell Long Beach Wedding Shone with Moody Elegance

November 4, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Rachael and Michael’s Ebell Long Beach wedding was a beautiful mix of sophistication, elegance, and fun! The venue, which featured a sun-drenched courtyard, mosaic floors, and crystal chandeliers, was the perfect backdrop for the couple’s timeless style. For a touch of moody vibes, they decorated the reception hall with black velvet linens and burgundy and cream floral arrangements created by Penelope Pots. The talented planners of Aster and Park Events did a fantastic job letting the elegance of the space speak for itself while also adding personal touches that spoke to Rachael and Michael’s style, and photographer Morgan Hydinger captured it all beautifully!

The Couple:

Rachael and Michael

The Wedding:

Ebell Long Beach, California

I found Ebell Long Beach on a blog site (I think the Venue Report). Even though I’ve lived in LB forever, I had no idea it was there. We knew we wanted to stay local but was open to ideas or places depending on what we found. It was the first place we looked at and the moment we walked in we knew it was the perfect place for us!

The venue has so much already we wanted to keep it simple but stick to our style. I love dark moody colors and kinda out there ideas. The only thing I knew I wanted from day 1 was black velvet tables, everything else fell into place from there. I couldn’t have imagined it any other way. Everything was perfect!

Sitting down at dinner and finally taking a look around and noticing all of our friends and family being in one place to celebrate us. We were both so honored and happy we could all be together. But if I had to choose a second most memorable moment, it would be when all of my husband’s friends gathered together to sing his famous wedding song “Faithfully” by Journey and ended up pulling him up to sing. I think it was probably one of the most anticipated moments from everyone. He sings it at every wedding!

This Dreams Tulum Destination Wedding Will Take Your Breath Away with Its Neutral Color Palette

November 3, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Tulum has become one of the most popular destinations for beach-loving couples, and this wedding at Dreams Tulum is a picture-perfect example why! The ceremony in the sand, the crystal clear water, the forest feel of the reception space — it’s what beachy, summer wedding dreams are made of! Patty and Jason planned their special day on Cinco de Mayo, which fit the Mexican vibe of their day and gave them the perfect excuse to have a wedding cake pinata at the ceremony. Alongside the personal and whimsical touches, the couple and their talented vendors were also able to create a truly elegant affair that featured lush floral designs created by Cherry Blossom, neutral bridesmaids gowns from Show Me Your Mumu, and a beachy-boho Maggie Sottero wedding gown. Amy Bluestar Photography nailed it in capturing every exciting and elegant moment of this gorgeous Tulum wedding!

The Couple:

Patty and Jason

The Wedding:

Dreams Tulum, Mexico

I wanted to keep my wedding look natural. I loved my wedding dress because it was elegant yet beachy. The dress was semi seethrough on the bottom portion, which made it nice and airy. The bridesmaids were given a few colors that I chose from Show Me Your Mumu and were able to pick whatever color and style they preferred. I wanted them to be comfortable and to be able to reuse whatever dress they chose to purchase. I believe one of the girls even ended up buying her dress somewhere else within the same color palette.

It took some time, but we were set on a destination wedding so that we could spend the most time with our family and friends. Dreams Tulum has the date and time we wanted which made the choice easier for us. We chose May 5th since that was already our anniversary and it also went with the Mexican theme we wanted.

We wanted our guest to be comfortable and entertained during our ceremony. We set up a shoe valet because nobody enjoys feeling sand in their shoes and also had wooden Spanish fans available just in case it was a hot day. Additionally, we had a violinist playing happy, up-tempo songs. It was vital to us that the day be far from generic.

I asked my mother to walk me down the aisle because she has always been my rock. We chose my uncle Martin as the officiant because he has been a huge part of my life and I have nothing but happy memories with him. We wanted to steer clear of the standard ceremony script that has been said countless times. All we told him was that we wanted him to speak from the heart. He spoke honestly about love and about the love Jason and I share.

In addition, we asked my aunt Maria to say a few words. Maria is a very special person in our lives. She has been battling cancer for the past few years and all the while she has remained a source of light for everyone who is lucky enough to know her. She read a poem called, “The Art of Marriage,” by Wilfred Arlan Peterson and gave a short speech that seamlessly tied the poem into words of wisdom, encouragement, and love for us. Needless to say, it was a real tear-jerker.

I consider myself to be pretty simple and wanted to keep my wedding as simple yet elegant as possible. My husband loves the beach so we agreed on a beach ceremony and jungle(ish) reception. At the end of the day the decor and style didn’t matter, it was all about bringing together our friends and family and having a great time!

Because our wedding was a destination wedding we thought it would be nice to give everyone welcome bags. The welcome bags included a welcome letter, the itinerary, and a personalized door hanger all made by Super Netti Things. There were also pool floats for everyone’s drinks, a hangover kit which included Pepto, Advil, band-aids, and handmade coasters. We also gave everyone a waterproof bracelet where they could put their room key in so they wouldn’t lose them. In addition to the welcome bags, we had props galore at the reception. Everyone left with ponchos, sombreros, crowns, led foam sticks, bubble guns or any other prop handed out.

There was a lot of DIY. Luckily, my MOH has a company called Super Netti Things, so she created the welcome sign, seating chart, welcome bags, door hangers, etc. My mother personalized every LED foam stick and sombrero. She also made personalized coasters for the guest to use when they got back home.

We chose to do a buffet style reception with a little bit of everything giving everyone options as to what and when they would like to eat. We also had a piñata to add some more entertainment to the party! Our guests gathered around as myself and Jason took turns trying to break it open. Once it finally opened, everyone (adults and children) raced to get the candy and chocolates. We also had a small cake which I heard was delicious!

Other than marrying the love of my life, I would have to say the most memorable part of the day was being huddled up by our friends and family singing “Sweet Caroline” at the top of our lungs!
