Rustic Rose Gold Whidbey Island Wedding at Crockett Farm

December 14, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

All your rose gold dreams are about to come true in Jacqui and Shea’s PNW wedding at Crockett Farm! With the help of the planning and floral design team at Whidbey Island Weddings, the couple created a truly unique celebration that was romantic and bohemian, while simultaneously edgy and modern. Maya Lora Photo knocked it out of the park capturing every dreamy moment of this day, from the couple’s sweet and secluded first look in the woods to their whimsically fun newlywed portraits out in the farm. In keeping with that edgy bohemian feel, the bride chose a wildly romantic Rue De Seine gown and paired it with rose gold accessories to complement her rosy locks. Every detail of this wedding had that perfectly curated yet completely effortless and natural feel that we’ve come to love about PNW weddings!

The Couple:

Jacqui and Shea

The Wedding:

Crockett Farm, Whidbey Island, Washington

The most important thing to us in planning our wedding was that it felt like “us”. We definitely have a certain vibe. We really enjoy good food and drinks, enjoy good music, love a good adventure and getting out in a beautiful natural setting, and love where we are from. We wanted to combine all of that in a somewhat intimate setting to share our love as we took the leap into the next chapter of our lives! Shea was also pretty keen on wanting a venue outside of the city but that still felt really accessible for our friends and family to join for an amazing weekend together.

One of my favorite moments was our first look. I was so nervous for Shea to see me in my dress. I’m not typically much of a girly type, typically going for a more minimal style But, for this day, I had a really romantic and bohemian vibe that I was feeling and it just all came together with my hair, makeup, and shoes. The softness of my entire look made me feel like a bride — tattoos and all! It was lovely, and Shea was blown away. He had no idea what to expect and said the dress was very fitting and unique, like me.

We chose our venue because we wanted something a bit out of the city, where we felt like it was a destination, yet it was only a ferry ride from home. Whidbey Island is stunning and we felt the sweet romantic vibes as we explored the island and venue, and knew right away that it was right for us. Our venue also provided coordination, floral design, and immediately picked up on our vision for the day, so we knew it was the perfect fit!

I think that the vibe of our wedding really stemmed a lot from our engagement. Shea proposed on a sunset gondola ride in Venice, Italy with the most amazing rose gold pear-shaped diamond ring (of my dreams) that he custom designed himself. Total surprise! He chose the design to be unique and fitting for a girl like me who enjoys a bit of edge in a chic modern way. Rose gold totally became an inspiration for our day (and fitting with my rose gold hair color). The sweet romance of the proposal lead us to a simple, romantic, and bohemian vibe for our wedding.

I knew immediately that my dress was going to be at The Dress Theory in Seattle and that Rue De Seine would be the designer. Their dresses just made me feel so gorgeous and looked amazing with my colorful hair and tattoos. It was love at first sight. I also wanted a dress that fit my personality and unique style…something unexpected…and Shea said I delivered. I fell in love with the modern, romantic, bohemian vibe of Rue De Seine and wanted that for my beauty look, as well. We went with a simple, glowy look to complement my rose gold hair. I loved my blush suede Jeffrey Campbell shoes, and for jewelry, I just wore my engagement ring, a minimal hammered rose gold ring, and a simple rose gold diamond necklace.

One of the things that was important to Shea and I was to have our dogs, Goonie and Yoshimoto, be a part of the ceremony. They are totally our babes and it was so special to have our pups be able to share in the love of mom and dad getting married (and the guests loved it). Our officiant is a very good friend of the family, and it was awesome to have him offer to take on this important role of marrying us, as someone who knows us both really well. We also wanted to bring some things that are just “us” into capturing pre-ceremony moments and that detail was our polaroid guestbook. Shea and I take polaroids of all of our travels and special occasions, some of which are displayed around our home, so it was fun to incorporate this touch into our day. Our friends and family loved it! And it was so sweet to go through it on the ferry ride home and read the notes everyone left us, and to have a photo of everyone on our special day.

Give yourself lots of time! The best thing I did was to start early so that when it starts to get close to crunch time, I never felt too overwhelmed. I booked the venue and photographer first (within the first 2 months), and I feel that that was a key move if you are planning a summer wedding.

Down to Earth Wedding with Boho Vibes at Cochrane RancheHouse

December 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Kelly and Mike’s boho-inspired Alberta wedding at Cochrane RancheHouse is proof positive that all good things come to those who wait! After 12 years, this insanely sweet couple tied the knot outside — with a stunning panoramic view of the Canadian Rocky Mountains all around them — and then danced the night away in the venue’s rustic, contemporary indoor space. The couple’s goal was to create a down-to-earth celebration that incorporated their love of bohemian decor, and the planners at Paper Doll Events helped them totally nail the look! With a neutral color palette that blended with the moody landscape, the whimsical florals designed by Chickweed Cottage Floral Design, and some signature macrame and wicker accents, this wedding had all the elements a truly enchanting and bohemian wedding needs. We seriously can’t get enough of the laid-back yet elegant vibe, the joyful wedding party photos, and the romantic newlywed moments that photographer Erin Fraser managed to capture throughout this entire day!

The Couple:

Kelly and Mike

The Wedding:

Cochrane RancheHouse, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

I have always loved bohemian things. Macrame, big flowers, feathers, and wicker are my jam, so I knew I would incorporate those elements into our wedding! I wanted our overall feel to be down to earth and bohemian. My amazing wedding planners helped bring our overall look and feel together!

There are so many emotions before walking down the aisle, but when the doors opened and I walked out I felt so excited. All my nerves and worries about the day just vanished! Seeing Mike standing at the end of the aisle gave me this incredible feeling of love and joy. That was the moment we had waited 12 years for!

I would highly recommend hiring a wedding planner! I felt like I had so many ideas of what I wanted the day to be like and, thanks to my planner’s guidance, I was able to execute the day to be exactly what I wanted. Also, our wedding planner was there to receive the flowers, talk to vendors, plan times and places that other vendors needed to be the day of the wedding. It took so much stress off of us on the day of the wedding! I was able to enjoy the morning with my bridesmaids and family and didn’t have to lift a finger or worry about the small details.

The new year will be here before we know it, so what better time than now to think back on our favorite weddings of 2018? From epic ceremony locations to killer bride and groom style to eye-catching floral designs to unforgettable newlywed moments, these weddings stole our hearts the moment we saw them — and refuse to let go!

Gina and Fernando’s Epic DIY Wedding at Zona Colonial

Where it took place: Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Why we love it: This art designer bride and her woodworking groom made sure no detail of her wedding went untouched! While Fernando made all of the wood pieces, Gina painted signs, designed floral arrangements, crafted paper goods, personalized two leather jackets, and turned the Spanish-style patio venue into a tropical haven. Every single detail was the Pinterest-perfect, DIY gold!

Hanna and Matthias’ Cozy Cathedral Park Wedding

Where it took place: Cathedral Park and The Blockhouse, Portland, Oregon

Why we love it: Hanna and Matthias’ wedding ceremony took place underneath a bridge…must we go on? With just a few simple touches, like a copper arch draped with greenery, an antique rug, and a copper bar cart altar, they made the iconic bridge location into a charming wedding ceremony site. Then they ended the night with a quintessentially Portland reception of burger, fries, and beers!

Angélica and Emiliano’s Fashion-Forward Italian Destination Wedding in Tuscany

Where it took place: Monteraponi, Chianti, Tuscany, Italy

Why we love it: This destination wedding was planned in just 4 months and was the perfect combination of effortlessly elegant and rustically charming, all of which complemented the villa venue perfectly. The true showstoppers of the day, though, were the bride’s custom lace gown, the bridesmaids’ chic mismatched dresses, and the groom’s floral-print suit, which updated classic Italian romance with a unique, eclectic twist!

Bobby and James’ Moody Luxe NOLA Wedding at The Marigny Opera House

Where it took place: Marigny Opera House, New Orleans, Louisiana

Why we love it: Bobby and James channeled the darker side of New Orleans and used a moody fall palette along with luxurious textiles to give their venue a deeply romantic vibe. They also traded in traditional florals for lush greenery installations that made it look like guests were dining in an overgrown indoor garden. From the blue velvet tablecloths to the grooms’ dark custom tuxedos, this NOLA wedding was the epitome of sophistication.

Crystal and Rawle’s Romantic Glam Wedding at Trinity River Audobon Center

Where it took place: Trinity River Audobon Center, Dallas, Texas

Why we love it: Crystal loves all things earthy and bohemian while Rawle prefers clean lines and bold accents, so the modern architecture of their venue and the indoor/outdoor spaces provided the perfect compromise for their “Modern Romance” theme. They also added a touch of glam with the formal wedding party style, and Crystal added a pop of edge with a black leather jacket over her stunning gown.

Their traditional and rustic styles worked like a dream together in shades of pink, green, and gold and the DIY projects they completed together looked gorgeous alongside the summery florals that rounded out their relaxed backyard party vibe. Also, we’re firm believers that two wedding dresses are always better than one, and these sisters’ looks were perfectly complementary while still being distinctly their own.
