Magical Minimalist South African Forest Wedding at Haycroft Farm

July 23, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

If beautifully simple weddings are your thing, then look no further than Christin and Charles’ wedding at Haycroft Farm! These two adapted their minimalist lifestyle into their wedding in such a perfect way. Their wedding planner, Heidi of Muirhead’s Hiring, set out to style their wedding day into the earthy and carefree vibe that Christin and Charles wanted. Their reception was tastefully decorated with metallic accents and greenery from Patti’s Flowers that truly brought the woodsy essence indoors. Photography duo September Company photographed this fun-loving couple’s destination wedding and it’s safe to say we’re obsessed with the result!

I am originally from South Africa and Charles is from the USA and because of our international love story we have friends and family spread all over the world. It was really important to us both to have our wedding in South Africa, for me to have all the nostalgic feels and for Charles and his family to experience South Africa and all the beauty it has to offer.

Our ceremony took place in a forest setting with the most beautiful lighting. Persian carpets lined the aisle and as my Dad walked me towards my husband the atmosphere was magical and breathtaking. Charles‘ Dad was marrying us and he asked us to turn and face our friends and family right after we said our vows. It was such a unique and special moment to turn and look at all the individuals that are so important to us and the roles they had in our love story, right before his Dad announcing us as Husband and Wife and sealing our vows with a kiss.

The most important part in our planning was to find a multi-functional venue that could be the center of all our guests travels, where we could all be together so that we could look back at the whole experience and the lead up to the special day. Haycroft Farm Country Venue was everything we needed, they have old stables converted into comfortable self-catering bedrooms with en-suite showers, communal area’s, honeymoon suite, all on a lovely South African Farm!

Planning a South African Wedding from America initially seemed like a daunting task. However, with the help of my amazing Mum and our event-coordinator Heidi, both based in South Africa, we made my Pinterest dreams into a reality. There were some key elements in our planning which helped make everything flow so easily:
1. We gave our international guests over 12 months notice to allow them to plan a trip and get passports ready
2. I picked my Wedding Dress to suit the climate in South Africa at the time
3. The venue we chose had such natural beauty that it only required a few touches to enhance it even more
4. My Mum cut and dried out South African grass and flowers to use as decor on the day
5. The Venue has an incredible event coordination team
6. I ordered all additional decor to the USA and traveled with it to South Africa, rather than paying for excess shipping

Our photographers, Thad and Caitlin from September Company, enhanced our wedding day so much. They traveled all the way to South Africa to shoot our special day. They made us and the bridal party feel so comfortable and at ease which made for incredibly relaxed wedding portraits. From the get-go, they understood our vision of natural beauty and light and they captured magical moments that we can appreciate forever.

Our New Years Resolution for 2018 was to adopt a more minimal lifestyle, living our life with only the things that we truly need and that add value. So, I wanted to create this vibe of an earthy and natural element into the style of our wedding, tying into a “minimal theme.” Natural greens, coppers, and whites stuck out to me and created a magical forest feel.

This Eclectic Wedding at Home Came to Life with Thrift Store Finds and Thoughtful Touches

July 22, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

There are few things sweeter than a wedding at home! Brittany and Tim’s intimate and eclectic wedding was full of handmade details, mismatched decor and table settings from thrift shops, and tons of beautiful colors that made it a true one-of-a-kind celebration. No two tables were decorated the same, which made their poolside reception look like it was pulled straight out of an antique shop. We love that Brittany chose a modern twist to classic bridal style with an embroidered Hayley Paige gown and pink fur stole so that she stood out against the all-white attire their guests wore. Emma of The Bold Americana brought every moment of this eclectic wedding to life and made us fall in love, yet again, with the inherent charm that comes with at-home weddings!

The Couple:

Brittany and Tim

The Wedding:

Private Residence, San Diego, California

The most important thing to me was that I did anything/everything to avoid being a bridezilla. My mother was our wedding planner because my mother has an incredible eye and Timothy and I work a ton and lacked the time and energy to pull our wedding together. Weddings can be incredibly stressful and I trusted that we would all collectively create a beautiful wedding to kick-off the rest of our lives together in the most peaceful and loving way possible.

As for my now husband, the most important things he focused on was his “Thank You” speech, providing tasty food, and building our cornhole structure. We just wanted to see our families get together to send us off on our journey and to thank them for their support.

Our ceremony was one I feel I can never forget. It was incredibly intimate and emotional in all positive ways. Just having all the people we love present and pledging our lives to one another was truly a magical experience!

For my bridal look, all I wanted was a Hayley Paige wedding dress! I love her design technique, taking traditional silhouettes and putting tasteful spins with modern fabrics, embroidery, and beading. I never felt prettier! I also loved the headpiece I found from Free People! As for the wedding party, we did not have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Instead, we opened the wedding up to our friends and family’s and asked that everyone wear white.

Our photographer Emma was great! She really was like secret ops. While I was getting ready, she captured all the decor around the location. Once the show began, she was seamlessly present. She never interrupted and captured all of our beautiful moments.

We didn’t necessarily select a color. My mom had been thrifting for over a year to put together place settings, decor, etc., so we couldn’t pinpoint our color palette. We just had to stay open minded so there was a flow to the decor. We had different place settings for each table (family style).

My husband surprised me with a ‘sexy’ dance. It was overwhelmingly hilarious! Many of our friends and family probably were embarrassed but I love my husband and, for once, I felt everyone knew what a riot that kid was and what I now have to deal this the rest of my life!
