This Spectacular Moroccan Wedding at Villa Taj Marrakech Left Literally No Detail Untouched

February 4, 2019 | juliette

Charlie and AJ’s Moroccan wedding at Villa Taj Marrakech was essentially a masterclass in maximalism! There were vases of every shape and size, Moroccan rugs covering the ground, fairy lights galore, embroidery hoops and macrame in every nook, and dried flowers mixed with pampas grass filling all the empty space. Oh, and we can’t forget about the pièce de résistance: a Fez hat on every place setting! This talented bride and her dream team of vendors made all our Moroccan wedding dreams come true, balancing the subtle art of over-the-top decor while still feeling classy and curated. We could go on and on about the spectacular intricacy of this wedding, but we’ll let these phenomenal photos from Tali Photography tell the whole story instead!

The Couple:

Charlie and AJ

The Wedding:

Villa Taj Marrakech, Marrakech, Morocco

We fell in love with Villa Taj Marrakech as soon as we saw it. The wedding space alone gave us all the feels, but picturing our nearest and dearest being able to stay at the venue made us so excited for all the pool time, rosé on the rooftop, and nights under the olive trees!

There were lots of little touches that enabled us to personalize the ceremony, from DIY decorations (courtesy of the bride), our friend Leo marrying us, and our personal vows (which made us both giggle lots)! Our friends were also in charge of the music and we had home-made fans featuring the day’s programme.

I am a details person and kept being told not to sweat the small things, the little bits that people won’t remember. But I have to say all those little personal touches made it extra magical for us, seeing all of our visions and planning come to life truly made it extra special. That, and not to get lost in the planning and forgetting why you are getting married in the first place!

In the end, we decided on everyone having a traditional Moroccan fez hat on their plate which was fun, great for photos but also a little keep safe for everyone! Adhering to Moroccan tradition under each hat was a small personalized bottle of rose water for guests to wash their hands before eating.

I actually didn’t have a style inspiration as such, I just found what I loved as I went! First, I decided I wanted something ridiculous and sassy on my head, and I thought about Frida Kahlo! So, I had a gold Stephanie Browne crown I wore later in the evening but in the day had an amazing dry floral crown created by the florist for the daytime, a slick of orange lipstick, and the fluted sleeves on my dress made me feel sassily fabulous!

I made embroidery hoops and trailing ribbon hoops in the lead up to the wedding, as well as a macrame for the aisle and spent months collecting dry flowers in Australia to bring for my wonderful florist. We also decided to print a vintage polaroid of every guest for our seating plan which placed on two Morrocan doors with a sign “find your face to find your place.” We carefully selected ridiculously funny photos to help break the ice for guests who hadn’t met before.

Aside from that moment of seeing each other’s face at the ceremony, we had a pinch ourselves moment partying under the Marrakech stars, twirling with happiness with all of our loved ones around, especially living so far away – it made us just feel like the luckiest pair!
