These Design Loving Grooms Planned an Elegant Outdoor Wedding at Moke Lake

August 14, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Our wanderlust is off the charts today thanks to Daniel and Tyson’s intimate, wild, and impeccably designed New Zealand wedding near Moke Lake. This stylish couple infused a free-spirited Bedouin vibe into their stripped-back elegant look with a stretch tent, Persian rugs, rose petals, tall grasses, and a combination of brass and wood accents — and the result was simply stunning. We adore that these grooms chose white linen suit jackets from MJ Bale for a modern twist on classic wedding attire and that they carried that same free-spirited vibe into their girls’ look with black dresses from Montique Clothing and sand-colored rose bouquets designed by Downies Flowers. These photos from Chasewild are just as stunning as the wedding itself and truly captured the joyous, heartfelt, and carefree feeling of this inspirational wedding!

The Couple:

Daniel and Tyson

The Wedding:

Ben Lomond Station, Moke Lake, Queensland, New Zealand

The nerves and butterflies while driving to Moke Lake weren’t anticipated. Greeting our wedding party before walking the field to the ceremony had an emotional but hushed excitement. But once we started the long traverse across the field, we felt all nerves and prior stress leave us, and we were filled with peaceful calmness as we walked to be greeted by 50 of our most loved friends and family.

We love design, both graphic and interior. It runs in the family. So it was important to us that literally everything about our wedding was hand selected and curated by us. All invites, menus, and our save the date were designed by us.

We’re really proud of how we styled our wedding party. For the girls especially, we wanted to avoid a typical wedding look. We wanted elegant lines, and we felt black would accentuate their features, skin, and necklines. It also highlighted the flowers and setting.

The color of the roses we used in their bouquets are called “quicksand,” and they are ridiculously gorgeous.

The day before the wedding, when everything was due to be set up, a freak weather system passed through. It was only March, but our guys who set up our tent (heroes) did so in the snow. One thing we learned is that having no phone reception at the location of your wedding is seriously tricky. With one freak turn of the weather, months of planning and design was literally about to all go down the drain. But, in the end, it made our actual wedding day that much more special.

As gay men, we’ve walked a very long and difficult journey to get to where we are, and that was recognized in a very emotional and joyous day.

We felt that using a stretch tent instead of a marquee was a refreshing twist. Using Persian rugs, rose petals, brass, and lots of wood, we tried to highlight the Bedouin feel of this style of tent. We’re really happy with how that looked in the end. Having Dr. Sanchez play some latin guitar between the ceremony and into our dinner service was the perfect accompaniment to the afternoon. I can’t emphasize the worth of live musicianship for events like this.

This Intimate Reykjavik Wedding at Iðnó Theatre Had the Most Breathtaking Light

August 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Julia and Robert’s Reykjavik wedding is nothing short of classic vibes with a modern twist. These two exchanged vows at Iðnó Theatre surrounded by candles and string lights for the ultimate intimate and romantic feel. Not only did Pink Iceland help plan and coordinate the perfect day for Julia and Robert, but they assisted in planning a full weekend worth of activities and events for their guests. There was nothing more magical about this wedding, besides the creative forces of Magic Wedding Photographer who documented the day in such a unique and special way.

The best piece of advice I can give is to try and “let go”. Being a perfectionist when there are so many little details and elements to planning a wedding can be overwhelming. Prioritize and focus your time on the things that are the most important to you and your partner. Be clear with your wedding vision and let the team that you hired take on the rest. They are the professionals after all!

Our wedding planner Eva presented us with several options, and right away, we knew Iðnó Theatre was “the one”. The venue itself has many charms, as it was the oldest playhouse in Iceland, built in 1896. We liked that it had character, history, and multiple rooms and floors to accommodate all our needs. Our ceremony was held in the theatre/main room, and cocktail hour was hosted on the second floor while they revamped the main room for the reception. The size was also perfect for the number of guests we had. It did not feel too big or too small. The location was centrally located in downtown Reykjavik by the city pond, offering our guests great views and plenty of photo ops.

The most memorable part of the day was when we exchanged vows. Although our guests were in the room, there was a feeling of intimacy and vulnerability as we made a lifetime commitment to each other.

The most important thing in planning the wedding was ensuring our guests had a great time. They were flying all the way to Iceland so we wanted to create an experience they would never forget. Our wedding weekend kicked off with a private sightseeing trip and welcome party at the Blue Lagoon. It was a great way for our guests to mingle and get to know each other before the big day. On the actual wedding day, the food, drinks, and music were the priority. The added touch of a disco ball was a sure fire way to get the dance party started.

The look and feel I was going for on my wedding day can be best described as “ethereal elegance.” The dress had the perfect amount of femininity, bohemian touches, and intricate bead and lace detailing for my frame. I knew that I wanted long sleeves since we would be getting married in Iceland and would want more coverage. For my bridesmaids, I liked how dreamy the tulle dresses looked from Monique Lhuillier and chose a blue and grey color palette that complemented the rest of my wedding color palette. I kept the hair, makeup, and accessories simple since there was a lot going on in the dress already.

My favorite photo is the one Magic took of us near the geothermal power plant with the steam rising from the ground. It looked like we were on Mars.

This Whimsical Newton Hills State Park Wedding Shows Off the Beauty of South Dakota

August 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With a soft color palette and a whole lot of DIY, Schae and Kye’s wedding at Newton Hills State Park is fully is whimsical and quirky details. Being in the wedding industry themselves, Schae took her talents into doing all of the floral, design, and stationary work for their big day. Schae and Kye’s vision came to life beautifully with the perfect outdoor wedding of their dreams! To top off their care-free and fun vibes, they had Bella Luna‘s pizza truck cater their special day and topped it off with ice cream from Stensland Family Farms and donuts. Photographer Sophie Grace and videographer Tess Pesicka effortlessly captured Schae and Kye’s sweet and emotional wedding day!

The Couple:

Schae and Kye

The Wedding:

Newton Hills State Park, Pierre, South Dakota

Our personal styles are free-spirited, adventurous, and boho. So we wanted to incorporate all of those feelings into our wedding. I knew from before the time I got engaged that my wedding would highly lean towards whimsical and bohemian inspired because I am just obsessed with those styles.

I think for us the most memorable part of the day was the first look. There was so much excitement in seeing each other for the first time and being all dressed up that was just so special. We spend so much time together that it felt weird not being with each other for the entire day so it made the first look that much more special. Kye also was crying like a baby haha so that was really sweet.

I think my favorite photos that were taken were the ones against the simple white wall. I loved how clean they were and I think aesthetically my vision came to life with the colors really popping against the white wall. They also were some of my favorite because we were freshly out of the air conditioning haha so we both looked and felt our best right after our first look. We were so full of excitement and anticipation for the day.

We chose a blush/dusty rose and mustards for our wedding colors. I simply love this combination and loved how it played throughout my bridesmaid dresses, flowers, and Kye’s outfit. I wanted these colors to easily match the decor that I had in my house as well.

Our photographer, Sophie, was great to work with. She had the same relaxed vibe as we did so we were able to be ourselves while she was capturing us on our day.

We decided to write our own vows as well as include a time of worship for our guests. We wanted people to feel the overwhelming love that Kye and I have for each other and also glorify God through our ceremony.

Trust your vendors to do a great job because you obviously hired them for a reason, and don’t let the wedding overwhelm you. People are coming to watch you get married so that is the most important reason for why you are having the wedding in the first place – to get caught up in the details and let them overwhelm you is taking away from the feelings of excitement of getting to marry your best friend.

I wanted my dress to be super feminine, boho and nontraditional. I didn’t want to wear a dress that I wasn’t comfortable in and would regret wearing later. I really loved the embroidery and swiss dot detailing on the dress as well as the buttons up the back. The dress was lightweight, comfortable and most importantly completely fit my style. I also went non-traditional with the earrings and shoes that I chose to wear. I wanted them to be modern and fit the styles that are currently on trend. I also chose a Lack of Color hat to tie in the blush color that I wore at the end of the night to give my look a more boho-modern twist.

I did all of the flowers, decorations and graphic design elements for the wedding. Each bouquet, centerpiece, greenery swag and flower crown was handmade by me days before the wedding. I also thrifted each vessel that I designed the flowers in and other elements that were used as decor. I also hand painted each flower graphic that was used on the invitations, food signs, and other paper goods that were used.

For our wedding we wanted to make sure that every detail felt like us and was unique to us. Being photographers and videographers ourselves, we have seen many weddings and how similar many weddings are to each other. So to us, we wanted a wedding that was different in every aspect. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and able to have fun. We wanted each detail to be highly stylized, beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. Most importantly, we wanted everyone to feel the love that Kye and I have for each other.

For our menu, we chose to have a local pizza truck called Bella Luna cater for us. Because we wanted a relaxed atmosphere we went with a food truck to allow people to eat as they please. Their pizza was also amazing! We also had ice cream from Stensland Dairy which is a local dairy farm. Each guest was given their own individual serving of ice cream! And we topped the menu off with donuts! We wanted guests to just have a fun night eating all the best foods in life! So donuts were a must!

Our videographer, Tess, is seriously so talented that we wouldn’t have been able to live out our dream of having a video without her. She is going to do big things with her gift! She also is just so amazing to work with because of her relaxed spirit. We truly felt 100% ourselves in front of her camera and would consider her to have become a friend to us.
