This Couple Used a Muted Color Palette to Incorporate Their Love of the Desert into Their Barr Mansion Wedding in Austin

September 26, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Carrigan and Jared’s wedding at Barr Mansion was a beautiful mix of boho and rustic vibes in muted tones that totally transformed the Austin venue. Their outdoor ceremony was framed with an a-frame arch created by the groom’s father and pampas grass arrangements done by Remi + Gold. Their indoor reception was full of cascading florals, natural textures, whimsical table decor, and handmade place cards. For an additional treat for their guests, Carrigan and Jared also hired one of Austin’s most beloved creative teams, Typewriter Rodeo, to write on-the-spot poems for everyone to take home. We’re totally in love with Carrigan’s romantic lace-top gown from Blue Bridal Boutique and Jared’s stylish velvet suit jacket, which gave the overall feel a modern yet timeless feel. John David Weddings did a phenomenal job capturing every moment of this beautiful Austin wedding!

em>We really wanted our wedding to feel and reflect us: a harmonious blend of nature and the outdoors, retro, yet still formal and elegant. We also wanted our wedding to feel almost like another world — from the moment our guests arrived to the moment they left — we wanted everything to be ethereal. It turned out almost medieval, which was totally okay. Guests were greeted with hand-painted banners and a quartet, velvet ribbons, and cascading flowers. We had a feast-style dinner by candlelight and drank wine from goblets. Everything was chosen with a purpose and made it a lot more meaningful to us.

We originally chose very simple white and greys as our wedding colours. Yet, we both love the outdoors and wanted our wedding to reflect deep canyons and wide desert spaces. We used orange and mauve flowers mixed with pampas grass, as well as emerald velvet table tops and rust accents. Who cares that it was spring? We went for the fall colours anyway.

Our photographer was incredible. He got all of the detailed and candid shots you could ever want on your wedding, yet did so unobtrusively. Most of the time you didn’t even notice he was there, yet when you look through the photos it seems like he was in ten places at once. When doing portraits he knew exactly how to pose us efficiently so we didn’t have to take away too much time from our wedding day. on top of that his editing style is exactly what we wanted. I recommend him to everyone!

Poetry and hand-written letters was a large part of our relationship. For our wedding favors, we hired on-the-spot poets who wrote poems for the guests on typewriters! The guests would tell the poets a word or an idea, and within minutes have a lovely poem typed on vintage parchment paper to take home.

The week before the wedding, my mother and I made all of the place cards. She painted them deep green and copper, and then I handwrote everyone’s name and embossed them. It was my little way of personally recognizing everyone that attended. The groom’s father also made the arch that we got married under. Nothing we found fit the vibe we wanted, so he made the large triangle structure for us.

Timeless and Intimate Winter Edmonton Wedding at The Foundry Room

September 25, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With winter just around the corner, we’re all in for Allison and Brayden’s wildly romantic elopement at The Foundry Room in Edmonton, Canada. The industrial space was the most perfect backdrop for the timeless and dramatic look that Cocktails and Details curated specifically for this couple. In just 5 months, they created a cozy ceremony with a candle-lined aisle, a low floral altar backdrop, and a seasonal garland arch created by Fabloomosity and a reception dinner at one of the couple’s favorite restaurants, RGE RD. Allison and Brayden chose sophisticated attire for themselves and for their 5-person wedding party in romantic jewel tones, which added a touch of glam that’s just so fitting for a winter wedding. Photographer Sharon Litchfield was the perfect choice to capture the mood, the impeccable design, and the emotional moments of this special day.

The Couple:

Allison and Brayden

The Wedding:

The Foundry Room, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

We both really wanted our wedding to be a reflection of our marriage: thoughtful, intimate and deeply personal. Neither of us ever envisioned a large elaborate wedding so it was easy to decide on a small elopement-style ceremony. Apart from our vendors and our witnesses, we didn’t inform anyone we were getting married! It was amazing to experience the surprise and celebration with our family and friends over the coming weeks as we shared our amazing news.

A small, personal ceremony allowed us to truly acknowledge what was important as a couple and focus on what we wanted to give each other in our marriage. We were then able to choose elements of the day that would be most memorable to each of us. As a chef, Brayden was able to emphasize amazing food and wine. For myself, I wanted an intimate romantic ceremony with beautiful fashion and décor. We also chose our wedding date, the “Family Day” long weekend, to always symbolize the importance of creating and nurturing a family together.

The wedding vows were certainly the most significant part of our wedding day. Along with our amazing officiant, we chose modern vows; those celebrating a true partnership based on equality, encouragement and mutual support for each other. We also independently wrote personal vows – with the real tear-jerker coming when we ended with the exact same words, “You are my favourite. Today and always, I choose you.” The intimacy of a small ceremony allowed us to express our love for each other with those that would ultimately support us most throughout our marriage.

While we could have eloped in a destination setting, our home community still felt like the right place to start our marriage together. Edmonton has been very supportive to both our careers and is the place we truly call home. It was important for us to celebrate where we established ourselves as both individuals and a couple. We also wanted to get married where we planned to raise our family. All of the vendors were local Edmontonians, down to the wedding accessories!

We planned our wedding in less than 5 months – and we would do it the same way again! Not allowing ourselves too much time to fret about the picky details was critical. By choosing to get married “off-season” on a winter Sunday, we were also able to secure our wedding planner and all of our top vendors on a short timeline. We kept our guest list unapologetically tiny; ultimately our extended families and friends were super supportive! Just because you have a small wedding, doesn’t mean you should short-change yourselves. Use the money you save on the giant guest list to invest in what is truly important to you. For us, that meant prioritizing amazing photos, décor, and food! It also meant securing a planner to worry about the logistics and facilitate our vision. In the end, our wedding was more about celebrating our marriage than the anxiety of planning.

Because of our small wedding party, we had the opportunity to consider many different venues for our dinner reception. The restaurant community in Edmonton is quite small and Brayden has many friends who own some beautiful spaces with great food. RGE RD, in particular, was at the top of our list for a few reasons: rustic and warm décor, absolutely delicious locally sourced food & drink, and ownership we knew we could trust to make our day extra special. The menu was expertly curated to suit both of our tastes. Everyone was absolutely stuffed with what will forever be the best wedding meal that ever was!

This Race & Religious Wedding was Styled to the Nines with Upscale Rustic Flair

September 24, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When it comes to NOLA weddings, it’s hard to beat the funky vibes and historic charm of Race & Religious! Paige and Sam let this iconic venue speak mostly for itself, but Brooke Casey Weddings did add rustic and glam details too add the couple’s personal flair to the space. The groom also designed the couple’s stationery, koozies, and a bar sign, which added elements of his English background and made the day feel more personal. With gold lanterns and geometric table decor, twinkle and marquee lights, and floral arrangements of greenery and white blooms from Nectar & Blossom, Paige and Sam’s dream team made this NOLA wedding one we won’t soon forget! Our hats off to Jen Menard Photography for capturing this day in such beautiful detail!!

The Couple:

Paige and Sam

The Wedding:

Race & Religious, New Orleans, Louisiana

Making an exciting and fun atmosphere for our guests, many of whom were traveling from across the pond and many who were coming to America for the first time, was the most important part of wedding planning! We also wanted the day to feel like us and not be too overdone. The venue is so beautiful and speaks for itself, we wanted to focus on the simple touches and big pieces that people would remember, such as the food, the music, and the atmosphere. So, we didn’t worry about the small stuff.

Don’t worry about the small stuff. You won’t remember it and it’ll just cause you unnecessary stress! I forgot to wear my veil down the aisle, but I didn’t miss it one bit. It’s important to realize that people are there because they love you and want to celebrate your love. Just enjoy the process, even the stressful parts. Take a moment and get excited because it all goes by so fast! Sam and I really loved being able to make all the choices together and it really felt like it was both of our days. So, get the groom involved! Also, order way more alcohol than you think you’ll need! All our English guests drank our gin dry and our wonderful caterer had to run out 3 times to replenish the bar.

Race & Religious was such a magical place. There are so many beautiful places in New Orleans, but Race & Religious just felt right the minute we walked in. We loved that a few of us were able to spend the night for an extra fee so we could party the night away, and it’s just so funky and cool and felt like the perfect vibe for our wedding. We also loved that all it had so many different rooms and was able to be an indoor and outdoor wedding all at once. All our guests couldn’t stop talking about it after they left!

Sam is insanely creative, so he created a pub sign for the bourbon tasting room, designed and painted our cornhole boards himself, designed all the stationery, and designed our koozies that people got to take home. It really made it special and unique and so wonderful that he was able to create so many special pieces for our day!
