Grab a blanket and some coffee, and cozy up with this at-home couple shoot captured by the brilliant Nicole Ashley Photography! Set in a boho-inspired apartment in Edmonton, Alberta, this couple shoot proves that at-home sessions are the way to go if you want to create a truly intimate vibe. Filmmaker Kimberly Wynn helped style this shoot, which featured cozy nooks, pretty plants, and bohemian decor, and ended in the best possible way — with breakfast in bed. We’re all in for at-home engagement and couple sessions, and this one gave us an extra dose of sweetness!
Small town charm met big-time romance in Amanda and Tyler’s wedding at The Union on Eighth! The couple, who wanted their day to be a whirlwind of love that allowed their nearest and dearest a glimpse into their life, planned an unforgettable celebration with the help of Kelly Jones Events. Using a palette of jewel tones perfect for the Texas winter, they brought moody blooms designed by Sweetwater Stems together with vintage, rustic decor to create the coziest feel. The couple infused personal touches by writing their own ceremony, hiring a caricature artist for the reception, and serving Freebird’s for dinner (as a nod to where they first met). But, of all the unique details, our favorites have to be Amanda’s non-traditional wedding dress from Renegade Bridal, which was printed with a letter written by Tyler, and her fiery red exit dress! From the first look to the exit, this sweet Texas wedding was bursting with emotion, and Feather & Twine captured it all brilliantly!
As a pretty private couple, the most important thing was to create an immersive experience for our friends and family. We wanted, above all else, to bring our loved ones into our world and show them the incredible love we had for them and for each other!
Our fashion and beauty inspiration followed the same theme as the rest of the ceremony. We didn’t want to look or feel different than ourselves. We just wanted to be the wedding version! I kept my hair and makeup simple, and Tyler wore a slim fit suit and some sneaker sole dress shoes, which were great for dancing! The coolest part of our look was my skirt, which had a letter that Tyler wrote printed on it! The light pink print played off of my sister’s pink dress and the bridesmaid’s wine dresses. The boys wore blue suits to compliment Tyler.
I had both of my dads walk me down the aisle, which was really special. We also wrote our own ceremony! We were able to include a handfasting, self-written vows, and the story of how we met.
The most memorable part of the day was right after the ceremony. We had been together for 7 years (to the day!) and had waited to get married. We wanted to graduate from school, move to Colorado, and get settled before planning a wedding. Once the ceremony was over, we were so overwhelmed that we had finally done it! We were married! It was worth the wait, and that moment was truly everything to us. We had taken our time and did right by each other. It was the best feeling in the world to cry and look at one another knowing that we wouldn’t change a thing.
Our colors were jewel tones. These are also the colors we have in our home and what we surround ourselves with on a regular basis. In order to be true to our vision of bringing everyone into our world, moody tones were the way to go!
We love getting our caricature drawn! We have 5 different renditions from different artists that we hang in our house that serve as a fun reminder of different times in our life together. To share this with our guests, we had a caricature artist at the reception! It was so much fun to see everyone walk away with a fun and special memento. There were even a few that came out really funny! Grandma got a crown and a scepter, and my stepmom’s dog even got drawn!
If this bride’s blue, hand-painted Chantel Lauren skirt doesn’t immediately make you swoon, the epic views on the coast of Vancouver Island certainly will! Mackenzie and Josiah’s wedding at Black Rock Oceanfront Resort was modern, moody, and intimate and full of unbelievably beautiful details. Mackenzie’s blue skirt, which she paired with lace tops from Kathryn Bass Bridal and Lillian Wild, wasn’t the only non-traditional element that stole our hearts. The couple’s sentimental music choices, handmade decor, and cozy s’mores by the fireside made this wedding feel wildly romantic and carefree. The true heart-stopping moments, though, came during the post-ceremony photos, during which photographer Jenna Grey and second shooter Gabe McClintock captured the newlyweds cuddled up against a stunning backdrop of black rocks and crash waves.
It was important to us while planning our wedding to keep our wedding small, intimate, romantic and modern. We wanted it to feel very different from any other wedding we’d been to. It was also important to us that it was on Vancouver Island. Josiah is from Courtenay, and suggested the Tofino/Ucluelet area as an alternative to a destination wedding outside of Canada. Once I saw the coast, I was sold, so we had to get married there. And, of course, we wanted to have it expertly photographed! At the end of the day, all you have are the photos, so I wanted them to be spectacular, and reflect a dark, moody aesthetic.
Looking back, our wedding day turned out to be unique and exciting, but also relaxed and very “us.”
We tried to personalize our wedding in so many areas. For starters, my husband loves the British band The 1975, so we had several nods to the band throughout our wedding. I walked down the aisle to “Medicine” (our favourite love song by them), and we included the band’s rectangle motif that appears on all their album art in our invitations, and it was the inspiration for our rectangular arbour, which my dad built himself, for the ceremony.
As for me, I have been in love with The Sound of Music since I first saw the movie as a toddler, and have seen it over 150 times (no joke). It only seemed right to have some subtle nods to this as well. As we signed the registry during our ceremony, my sister-in-law Rachel and good friend Alex, sang and played the song ‘Edelweiss’ from the movie. We also wrapped our favours (homemade salsa from my mom and one of my bridesmaids) in ‘brown paper packages tied up with string;’ a play on the lyrics from “My Favourite Things.”
I was obsessed with the idea of wearing a blue wedding dress long before we got engaged — after I saw a photo of a bride in a steel blue, hand-painted Chantel Lauren skirt on Pinterest. When I went shopping for my own wedding dress, I swore to keep an open mind. But, once I tried on that same Chantel Lauren skirt, there was no going back! I paired my skirt with a strapless lace top from Kathryn Bass Bridal and, for the ceremony, I added a 3/4 sleeve lace topper from Lillian Wild. My dress was non-traditional and whimsical, and I have no regrets!
For both of us, the most memorable part of the day was running down the stairs together to see all our friends and family smiling, clapping, and cheering for us at our wine cellar reception. This was the first time we’d seen the room all put together and it looked amazing! All our homemade details and décor came together better than we could’ve ever imagined. We had spent so much time trying to picture how everything would go together, so it was satisfying to see our vision come to fruition. Aside from that, we felt so loved at that moment by everyone who had come to celebrate with us — it was a great feeling.
