Float – the Latest Bridal Accessories Collection by Emma Katzka – is Our Newest Obsession

November 29, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Whether your bridal style leans more edgy or romantic or lands somewhere in between the two, Emma Katzka‘s latest bridal accessories collection Float is the perfect way to punctuate your look. We’ve always adored how Katzka’s designs tread the line between trendy and timeless, and Float is no exception with its modern approach to hair pieces, earrings, bracelets, and more using quartz, pearls, and opal stones.

Here’s what Emma Katzka had to say about her gorgeous new collection, Float:

My new collection, “Float,” was inspired by my love for two very different artists – Claude Monet and Takashi Murakami. I love the way they both portray flowers in such polar opposite ways and decided to center the shoot and many of the pieces around that concept. Eventually, I started creating other pieces inspired by many other artists that I’ve long admired. The collection highlights organic materials inspired by water, such as stick pearls, blue quartz, metallic quartz, and opal stones. I’ve loved creating something that evokes the cool, modern, fresh side of bridal, with plenty of femininity still thrown in.

Cozy Industrial DTLA Wedding at Hudson Loft

November 29, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Whitney and Reed made simple look stunning in their downtown LA wedding at Hudson Loft! Despite the stark, industrial feel of the loft venue, Love Her Madly helped the couple make it feel like the coziest place imaginable with hurricane candles, loads of greenery garlands, and wildflower arrangements from Sweet Sage Events. The couple even took the intimate and homemade vibe one step further with a family-style pizza dinner catered by Olive Wood Pizza. The industrial space proved to be the perfect backdrop for Gina & Ryan Photography to capture all the sweetest moments of this wedding day, from the couple’s emotional first look to their private rooftop cuddles during the reception.

The Couple:

Whitney and Reed

The Wedding:

Hudson Loft, Los Angeles, California

Having our family and friends present was the most important factor when planning our wedding. Our families were living in Singapore and Hawaii at the time, so it was important for us to find a place that was easy to access. LA was the perfect meeting spot, especially because both my husband and I attended college there.

Music was a big part of our wedding day. It was really important for us to have live music that vibed with our overall relaxed, yet traditional theme. The ceremony opened with my uncle playing the trumpet. It was beautiful and really set the tone! The families, bridesmaids, and groomsmen followed by walking down the aisle to our live guitarist, Kevin Miso, who played an acoustic rendition of “The Wind” by Cat Stevens. Finally, my dad and I walked down to him playing a serene version of “Here Comes the Bride” on his guitar. Let’s just say I have never seen so many tears of joy!

Gina and Ryan took our engagement photos and we fell in love their style and uniqueness. They were so fun to work with and made it so natural. On the big day, they were there for every moment, big and small. They really helped calm a lot of our wedding jitters because they are so down to earth. We are so happy with how the photos turned out and would recommend them to anyone!

Our wedding planning advice is to create the wedding that you both want. There is no right or wrong way and with so many different opinions and wedding traditions, it is important to do what fits your style.

Our first dance was “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett. Kevin Miso was incredible and did more than just play music. He essentially MC-d the wedding. He knew exactly how to set the mood for the ceremony and transition the event from cocktail hour to dinner to dance party!

Our wedding venue, Hudson Loft, did not have a kitchen, so we knew we’d have to think outside the box. The answer was food trucks! We love hand-tossed pizza, so we chose Olive Wood Pizza to cater our wedding. We had bruschetta, meatballs, and hors-d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour. Dinner was served family style. Every table was served bread, salads, and four unique hand-tossed pizzas. It was super fun, easy, and there were no lines for guests. Everyone loved the family-style pizza!

Tropical Bohemian DIY Wedding at Bodega Bay Secret Gardens

November 28, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Tropical bohemia was the name of the game for Melissa and Sean in their laid-back California wedding at Bodega Bay Secret Gardens! The couple, who plans to move to Hawaii, knew tropical vibes had to be a large part of their celebration and added their favorite boho twists to make it truly their own. This creative couple created so many DIY projects, including signage, logos, and hand-painted denim jackets, which only added to the artsy, personal, and handmade feeling. Brooke Shannon Photography was the perfect match to capture not only Melissa and Sean’s style but their truly joyful personalities, as well. From their fun-loving photos on the beach to their laugh-filled vow exchange that ended in a beer unity ceremony, this tropical boho wedding was its own brand of magical and unlike anything we’ve seen before!

The Couple:

Melissa and Sean

The Wedding:

Bodega Bay Secret Gardens, Bodega Bay, California

In planning our wedding our top two goals were to create a fun and free-spirited day and to make sure we put our twist on every detail possible.

Our wedding vibe was kind of a no-brainer. We plan to move to Hawaii in the future, so the tropical look was a must. As far as the bohemian aspects, our day-to-day style is pretty laid back and bohemian. Once we looked up “tropical bohemian” inspiration photos, we knew that was exactly what we were going for.

We DIY’ed a good amount of projects for the wedding. Sean created a pineapple logo that he stained onto our corn hole boards and etched onto our beer boot glass for the ceremony and I painted our pineapple canvas that served as our interactive guest book. We both hand wrote all of our signage and stained all of the easels. We also repurposed our entire lounge furniture set from pieces we found on craigslist and craft stores. Our favorite DIY of the whole wedding was creating and hand-painting our matching pineapple skull jean jackets, which we bought at a thrift store!

Take your time and enjoy every moment of the planning process! It definitely can get stressful, but the hard work pays off when you see everything come together. Also, always remember this is yours and your future spouses day, no one else’s. Do what you want and who cares about what anyone thinks!

The most memorable part of the day definitely was when we were sitting at our sweetheart table during the reception and we looked out and saw all of our family and friends all laughing and enjoying themselves. It was so cool to see so many people there just for us. It definitely made us feel loved by everyone!

We did not give out traditional wedding favors. Instead, on behalf of ourselves and our guests, we donated to the Peninsula Humane Society in memory of our dog Bane. Bane was going to be the “Best Man Dog” before he, unfortunately, passed away five months before the wedding due to a tumor. We also donated to a cancer research organization in honor of those in our families who have and are currently dealing with cancer.
