All Your Wildest Floral Dreams Came True in This Vibrant Bloomsbury Farm Wedding

Kimberly and Sahil’s Bloomsbury Farm wedding was as whimsical as it was heartfelt! Coston & Co. helped the couple fuse their Indian and American cultures together, weaving bohemian details throughout to make it all feel effortlessly romantic. The star of the decor were the incredible floral designs created by the artists at Petal and Pine, who used vibrant pink, orange, coral, plum, and cranberry to add bold, eye-catching color to every nook and cranny. In keeping with the colorful vibes, Kimberly wore a whimsical champagne Rara Avis gown and Sahil rocked a vivid orange jacket from Capital Custom Clothiers — and we’re obsessed! From all the detail shots to the romantic couple portraits, A Little Long Distance captured every moment of this incredible Tennessee wedding!

The Couple:

Kimberly and Sahil

The Wedding:

Bloomsbury Farm, Smyrna, Tennessee

As a couple, we really focused on blending the two cultures of Indian and American together. We looked to find little ways to show an appreciation for our backgrounds and we wanted our friends and families to experience what our future together would look like.

Sahil is a big-time foodie and loves his drinks to be perfect! We took a lot of time with personal food tastings and drink tastings to make sure we brought about the experience we had envisioned. Kimberly endlessly brainstormed for just the right aesthetic appeal to be seen in florals and decor. From tiny lit lanterns, bright and colorful flowers, and bohemian flair, nods to India were matched with her own personal style.

Kimberly always knew that she wanted to have an outdoor wedding with a meadow feel. Nashville is a huge wedding hotspot so we figured we would find a venue that met her vision. We made our list short and ended up only looking at two venues. Though both were outdoor, one felt more formal and less carefree, while the other was more of a blank slate. It did require a lot of customization, but there were constant moments of “this is the one.”

One moment that really stood out to us was our meeting with Bloomsbury Farm‘s event coordinator, Laura. From our conversations with her, we discovered we all had gone to the same university and she had even backpacked throughout India. Laura connected us with the name of a wedding planner that worked with the venue often and after talking with her, knew that we could create something in this place where rolling hills, open fields, and groupings of trees could truly make magic happen.

Cozy and Lush Netherlands Wedding at Domaine D’Heerstaayen

May 19, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

After deciding to host their wedding in their new home of Amsterdam, Kate and Alex chose the wildly charming Domaine D’Heerstaayen to create a cozy outdoor dinner party with their loved ones! Over the Moon Weddings helped the couple bring a relaxed, easy vibe to the old-world venue, using muted colors, minimal modern decor, and simple florals to add a touch of color and a feeling of home. Kate and Alex also gave us a tour of the city in their portraits with Angela Bloemsaat – Love Story Photography, from snuggling on the bridge to meandering down cobblestone streets. This wedding was the perfect blend of European city chic and countryside charm, and we just can’t get enough!

The Couple:

Kate and Alex

The Wedding:

Domaine D’Heerstaayen, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Just after getting engaged, Kate moved from Colorado to Amsterdam and Alex followed fairly soon after. What we missed dearly was sitting around the table with old friends and family, sharing good food and wine. It was important to us that our wedding had that feel – cozy, intimate, and relaxed.

For a time we waffled between a wedding in Colorado or in the Netherlands. It was hard to beat a mountain backdrop, but Domaine D’Heerstaayen is truly something special. It makes you feel instantly at home, especially with the fire going. I think Marijke is still confused about how two Americans ended up at her doorstep, but we are so glad we did!

Our ceremony was a stand-out of the day, as were the chickens that interrupted it — very vocally at that! Kate‘s talented author/editor aunt officiated our ceremony and wrote the whole thing from scratch, perfectly capturing our ten years together and the years to come. We also had our friends and family write 13-word love stories (inspired by the New York Times Modern Love piece), which were read aloud. They wrote things like: “Nice eyes. A warm smile. And the missing clues to her crossword puzzle” and “Measuring love in one’s willingness to take the dog out in shit weather.” For us, it was just the right blend of love and humor!

Our processional was “Amsterdam” by Gregory Alan Isakov and the Colorado Symphony, which has long been a favorite and felt especially appropriate given the move to the Netherlands. Our recessional was “I Found You” by Alabama Shakes. Our first dance was amongst our friends and family to whatever happened to play first. The ceremony was attention enough for us!

We had small welcome bags for our guests, featuring Dutch treats (stroopwafels, gin & tonic, chocolates), a map of our favorite spots in Amsterdam, and some coffee from Alex‘s coffee company to ease the jet lag. Pro tip: Don’t buy stroopwafels and gin too far in advance. Otherwise, you’ll inevitably dip into them before your guests arrive.

Which Engagement Photo Setting is Perfect for You?
Beach Engagement

You don't mind a little sand between your toes or the wind in your hair, making a beach the perfect engagement setting for you. Put on your best breezy, lightweight outfits and ditch your shoes at the shore for a sunrise or sunset session at your favorite beach. Don't be afraid to embrace what the beach has to offer during your shoot, whether that means rolling around in the sand or taking a dip in the ocean together.
Mountain Engagement

You are not afraid to shout your love for all the world to hear, making the top of a mountain the perfect place for your engagement photos. Reflect together on all the experiences that brought you to this point as you hike up the rugged terrain. Reaching the top of the mountain will not only be totally exhilarating, but it will also make for some incredibly epic portraits you'll want to display as art in your home.
At Home Engagement

Your favorite place to spend time together is in your home, so why go anywhere else for your engagement photos? Enjoy a normal morning together cooking breakfast, cuddling on the couch, and drinking your coffee as your photographer captures you at your most comfortable. Don't forget to tidy up ahead of time and designate a few corners of your home that especially show off your personality as the backdrop for your photos.
Urban Engagement

You fell in love showing each other your favorite parts of your city, so it only makes sense to take your engagement photos there. Visit your regular coffee shop spot or the record store where you spend your weekends, and get a bird's eye view of your city by taking your session to the top of a downtown parking garage.

Now that you’ve got your engagement photo setting sorted, it’s time to get ready to take pictures! Check out our tips to nail your engagement photos.
