Get Your Modern Greenery Inspiration from This Chic Los Angeles Millwick Wedding

June 28, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

When asked what the theme of their Millwick wedding would be, Madeline and Steven had the most perfect, simple response: “The theme is us! There’s going to be a disco ball and tacos, oh and lots of fun.” Everything about this day, which Jessica Foster Event Planning helped create and photographer Jes Workman documented, felt completely original! The venue itself was full of charm that spoke to the couple’s style, such as a disco ball, greenery everywhere, and worn architecture. With modern decor, special treats for their guests, and a ceremony full of personal touches, Madeline and Steven created a day worthy of and representative of their love. This wedding was full of modern wedding inspiration from beginning to end!

The Couple:

Madeline and Steven

The Wedding:

Millwick, Los Angeles, California

Steven and I have been together for almost 12 years, and we’ve developed incredible relationships with our friends and family along the way. We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of not only us but the people who have supported us in every step of our relationship.

We almost skipped our Millwick viewing appointment because I didn’t feel like getting married so close to home would be “special” enough. I was wrong! We fell in love with Millwick the second we walked through the door, and the beyond helpful staff really sealed our decision. Millwick felt like us. It had a huge disco ball, beautiful brick, and there were gorgeous plants everywhere. Even just the bare bones of the place without any decor felt like it was made for just us.

To start off the ceremony, Steven led everyone in an exercise he likes to do to keep himself present. Basically, he had our guests raise their hands out and take a second to look at their hands in the space around them to really feel present. It’s something we do together to help us remember important moments and it really works! It was so special that he got to teach that exercise to all of our favorite people that day.

We asked our friend, N’tima, to officiate. She helped Steven plan our engagement in Japan at these gorgeous waterfalls near Mount Fuji, and even snapped the photo of Steven down on one knee. She had been a big part of our engagement, and we wanted her to officiate the next chapter of our lives. It doesn’t hurt that she’s also an incredible writer.

While my brother and a friend read poems they chose to share during the ceremony, our ring box was passed around to our guests. We asked them to put their good wishes into our rings as they passed through their hands, so you’ll see a few photos of guests holding our ring box. Right after our vows, we snapped an Instax photo and sealed it in an envelope to open on our first anniversary. Steven was a little nervous and definitely took the photo upside down, but I’m very excited to see it this November.

We exited our ceremony arm in arm and once we were out of sight I couldn’t help but shriek “WE’RE MARRIED” as Steven picked me up and spun me around. We took that moment and sobbed, laughed, said everything we had wanted to say to each other all day, and once we felt like we were the only people on earth our entire bridal party body slammed us with love. It was overwhelming and perfect in every way!

Make rules for yourself and stick to them. I’m someone who gets overwhelmed with too many options, so I gave myself a rule of three. I’d narrow down every choice I had to make to three options and went with my gut on each one. We looked at three venues, I went to three dress shops, made a choice between three photographers, etc. THEN, once you make a decision, don’t look back. Trust your gut and move on to the next decision.

Epic Describes Both the Views and the Romance in This New Zealand Elopement at Rees Valley Farm

June 27, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

After deciding they wanted to tie the knot in a remote location where neither of them had been before, Elizabeth and Peter planned a New Zealand elopement that was as romantic as it was adventurous! They exchanged vows surrounded by nothing but mountains and a handful of loved ones at Rees Valley Farm, where a pretty ceremony backdrop covered in vibrant florals designed by Orange Blossom was all they needed. Once it was official, the couple hopped on a helicopter with Ana Galloway Photography for an epic newlywed session in the mountains followed by a dinner-party style reception at Akarua Wines & Kitchen! We can hardly contain our obsession with every bit of this elopement, especially the bride’s self-designed gown made by Olga Koloskovo.

The Couple:

Elizabeth and Peter

The Wedding:

Rees Valley Farm and Akarua Wines & Kitchen, Queenstown, New Zealand

Peter and I met camping while I was studying abroad in Adelaide, South Australia. He followed me back to Texas where we spent the next two years creating adventures- backcountry hiking, throwing up in Cuba, eating cheese in Holland and a west coast road trip that ended in a hot air balloon proposal! We knew we wanted an adventurous wedding.

Since we have a very worldwide family we decided we wanted to get married somewhere that wasn’t home to anyone. We asked ourselves, “Where is the most beautiful place on earth that we haven’t visited before?” The answer was simply Queenstown, New Zealand. It wasn’t until I visited that I realized it couldn’t just be in the city of Queenstown; it had to be somewhere completely rural and off the wedding grid.

We wanted a complete adventure, that was also incredibly stunning but where our elderly guests would have no issues getting to. That is actually quite hard to find in Queenstown surprisingly. It was only because of the friendliness of our florist that we chose this location.

Our ceremony was a reflection of our relationship with Christ and family. We incorporated prayer, scripture readings, moments of worship through song and personal statements along with traditional vows.

We didn’t really have a distinct color, but we asked guests to wear colors that mirrored the native plant life.

My dress was designed by me and locally made with Australian satin. It was light and elegant to match the simple touches of the wedding. I wore my family crescent ring, my engagement ring, a minimal gold cross necklace and hoop earrings that added a little touch of elegance. Around my bouquet, I hung a pearl necklace that was owned by Peter‘s late grandmother.

It was amazing working with our photographer! Ana Galloway Photography was such a trooper and she was up for the adventure. She was great at managing the timeline and making sure everyone was moving in the right direction, but was also very supportive and laid back.

We gave our guests customized camping mugs. They had our “logo” on it- mountains, the wedding date, and our names. These gifts were a simple thank you for coming so far to celebrate our wedding.

Ultra Glam Neutral-Colored Wedding at Solitaire Homestead in Western Australia

June 26, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

After waiting over 2 years to get married, Rhiannon and John created the wedding of their dreams at Solitaire Homestead! Their goal was for all of their family and friends to feel their passion, enthusiasm, and love in every moment of the day and, judging by these photos captured by Shannon Stent Images, they totally nailed it. Lily + Leather created floral arrangements that integrated harmoniously with the surrounding nature and even the neutral tones of the entire wedding party look blended seamlessly. The bride’s Rue De Seine gown, in particular, was a sight to behold against both the countryside terrain and the waterfront cliffs. From top to bottom, this Australia wedding was a pure expression of the couple’s vintage/bohemian style, and eclectic, relaxed yet glam vibes.

The Couple:

Rhiannon and John

The Wedding:

Solitaire Homestead, Naturaliste, Australia

It had been raining all morning and was not looking as though it was going to back off. However, we stuck with our plan to have the ceremony under a beautiful gumtree in the paddock. It had just stopped raining as my girls and I got in the Kombi to make the journey to the ceremony. The clouds were thick and heavy, hanging over all of us the entire ceremony as if the heavens were about to open. It held off until we shared our first kiss as a married couple. Then, it sprinkled as if the clouds were congratulating us. It was such a surreal experience, something we’ll always remember!

Our best advice for other couples is to give yourselves time! Although our planning period was rather long, we would not change a thing. It was an absolute dream to have the extra time on our side. We never felt rushed and it allowed us many options when choosing vendors. With a limitless amount of wedding inspiration from pages like Instagram and Pinterest, you will need ‘time’ to make those important decisions.

We had a tequila shot toast when we arrived back to the reception. Each of the guests received a shot just prior to our arrival. Each shot glass was individual, no two were the same. The bridesmaids and I collected them at op shops and thrift shop all around Perth. There was a mix of vintage/antique, etched, embossed and crystal glassware. It was so cute!
