Blush and Rose Northern Minnesota Wedding at Grand View Lodge

November 17, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Ariel and Josh’s wedding at Grand View Lodge was the perfect mix of romance and edge! Beauty Brilliance Events and Design did a phenomenal job planning this day down to the last little detail — especially the dramatic reception decor and stunning, moody florals FluidBloom created. The couple looked just as breathtaking with Ariel dressed in an intricate Milla Nova wedding dress and Josh in Generation Tux. We’re feeling thankful photographer Alexandra Wallace was there to capture every detail, including a sweet, tear-filled first look as Ariel walked down the aisle. Scroll on for so many sweet moments and more!

The Couple:

Ariel & Josh

The Wedding:

Grand View Lodge, Nisswa, Minnesota

My dress by Milla Nova was my diva moment! After trying on a ton of dresses in a San Diego shopping trip with my girlfriends, I still could not decide. Knowing the styles that had looked great on me, I shopped online and finally found the prefect dress on Instagram. However it was last year’s model and there was only one left in my size in a showroom in Chicago. I had it shipped to their Las Vegas showroom and then flew to Vegas to try it on! Luckily it was THE dress!

Wedding planning advice from the bride: Be in planning mode until the festivities start. Then let go and enjoy! The night of the rehearsal dinner I was rushing around in planning mode when I realized, oh the party is here! Time to stop planning and be present. It worked out wonderfully. I was able to enjoy everything and ignore the hiccups (the photo booth never arrived). Having a day-of coordinator helped me immensely let go of the details and enjoy our day.

Grand View Lodge is beautiful, has delicious food, and supplies everything on site, so we didn’t have to worry about renting or placing our plates, tables, chairs, etc, but it also affordable considering everything that is provided. A lot of our guests were coming from California so we wanted them to be able to have a weekend experience when they came out for our wedding. Grand View offers a resort-style stay with plenty of activities that offered our guests a taste of Northern Minnesota.

My photographer, florist and stylist came out to Minnesota from California for us! They are so amazing and having vendors I knew, loved and trusted made the day so perfect! It would not have been the same without their amazing talents and hearts!

This Couple Used Their Wedding to Transform Their Family’s 80 Acres into a New Venue Called The Farm on Van Wyck

November 15, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

A lot of weddings start with a vision, but for Taylor and Nick’s day, their vision was one of the greatest we’ve ever seen! When the couple decided to get married on their 80 acre farm, they decided to also transform it into a wedding venue—now called The Farm on Van Wyck—with their day being the inaugural event. It was most important that their wedding “felt like us,” so the couple hired Malorie Kerouac to capture every heartfelt moment and little detail that made this day special. Their florist, Free Range Flowers, created beautiful and bright arrangements for the day, including stunning blooms that decked the ceremony alter! If simple elegance is your thing, this wedding at The Farm on Van Wyck is for you!

The Couple:

Taylor & Nick

The Wedding:

The Farm on Van Wyck, Bellingham, Washington

Our photographer, Malorie, is so lovely in every way. She was such a source of comfort throughout our day and made all our photo sessions feel easy and fun. She went from photographer to friend in a matter of seconds and we are so looking forward to the next time we get to hang with her (and her very sweet fiance, Nick)! She is basically a photo ninja and managed to get every shot we could ever want and then some, all without us even noticing she was there. Our photos from the ceremony are to die for yet I don’t remember seeing her snapping them even once – ninja! She captured such beautiful candid moments of us and our guests and I sincerely mean it when I say that I love every single photo she took that day. She is simply the best.

When planning our wedding, it was really important to us that our personalities were reflected in our day. We are not fancy people, so we didn’t want a big fancy affair. We wanted a more relaxed vibe that focused on the love and connections between us and our families and friends rather than elaborate decorations, formal dinners, or strict dress codes. We wanted our guests (and ourselves!) to feel comfortable, eat good food, drink good drinks, and dance all night! Keeping this in mind throughout the planning process really helped take the pressure off when deciding what wedding customs or traditions to include in our day – we questioned everything and if it didn’t feel like “us”, we nixed it!

Celeste (floral designer) is one of the most bad ass business owners/people I know! Her floral work is incredible and she is such a lovely person inside and out. She truly made an effort to get to know us and our vision and she absolutely delivered. I highly recommend her for all floral design!

We truly loved every minute of our wedding day, but I would say the most memorable part was our ceremony. It’s funny because the ceremony was probably the least planned out part of our day, but it ended up flowing so beautifully and effortlessly. We asked one of our closest friends to officiate the wedding and our sister-in-law to do a reading and they did the most amazing job; what they wrote was so personalized and heartfelt that I don’t think there was a dry eye in the crowd. Nick and I also wrote our own vows and recited them for the first time to each other at the ceremony, so the whole thing was filled with such raw emotion and love. One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was when our officiant, Arianna, was choking back tears during the ring exchange while asking if we take each other to be husband/wife. We were all laughing and crying happy tears as she tried her best to make it through the “do you take… to be your…” and it was the perfect ending to the ceremony.

Wedding planning advice from the bride: My best advice to those planning a wedding is to make it your own! At times the planning process can definitely feel overwhelming, but I found it helpful to think of the whole process as a creative outlet and an opportunity to showcase our style and personalities rather than just tasks to check off the to-do list. That shift made planning so much more fun and made for a really memorable day that truly represented who we are and why we wanted to get married. After all, there are no rules when it comes to wedding planning – you can make your wedding day however you want it!

We had recently moved into the little house on my family’s 80 acre farm property out in the county, so we chose to get married there! The property is absolutely beautiful – rolling hay fields and forest as far as you can see. There’s an old barn on the property that hadn’t been touched in over 30 years, so we spent months fixing it up and creating a beautiful outdoor reception space for our wedding. It made our wedding day that much more special seeing that our vision for the space had come together so perfectly from all the work that we and our family and friends put in in the months leading up to it. We loved the way the whole space turned out so much that we decided to turn it into a actual venue, The Farm on Van Wyck. Creating a wedding and event venue is something that Nick and I have dreamed about for years, and having our own wedding on this beautiful property was the inspiration we needed to finally make it happen! We can’t wait to watch the wedding day visions of other couples come to life on The Farm..

This Terrain Wedding Includes Autumnal Hues, Pumpkins, and Quotes from The Office

November 14, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Jennifer and JW’s Terrain wedding was an earnest and heartfelt celebration of their long-time love for one another. The couple, along with the planners at Heart and Dash, spent the better part of a year creating a wedding day that would feel truly authentic to the them. Jennifer designed and assembled their invitations, event signage, and hand-lettered a vintage mirror from JW’s family with table assignments. Every single detail from this day was selected with careful intention — including cocktail napkins decked out with Michael Scott quotes (an homage to many nights the pair spent watching The Office together) and rentals with hues of rust, burgundy, and orange from Maggpie Vintage. We’re feeling thankful the talented Nessa K Photography was there to capture all of this and even more Autumnal vibes from Jennifer and JW’s Terrain wedding day!

The Couple:

Jennifer & JW

The Wedding:

Terrain, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

My experience buying a dress at Sarah Seven was also one of the most memorable parts of the wedding process. Not only did Sarah make my life by naming my gown the “Easton” (cue sobs) but every time I stopped in to the New York flagship for alterations or appointments, I felt like I was hanging out with my closest friends. They are so cool, chill and fun to be around, and always made me feel like a million bucks. I miss seeing them!

We were so lucky to have Nessa shoot our wedding. Her work speaks for itself and she is such a kind and thoughtful soul. Her talent is limitless. Fun fact: She’s also an illustrator, and sent us one of her prints (a scene from The Office, our favorite show) after the wedding!

Wedding planning advice from the bride: My Dad passed away just a few months before our wedding. So to my fellow brides and grooms who are weathering the tides of grief alongside the joy of marriage – I share with you some advice that my mentor and dear friend gave to me. “I have two children, they got married eight weeks apart and my dad died suddenly, missing both ceremonies. My mom could barely stand up to give a toast, her grief was still so strong, but stand up she did. And you will stand up too.”

Our friend and groomsman Mike played us down the aisle to the song “Plans” by Twin Forks, which my husband arranged on guitar – it’s one of the songs we exchanged at the very beginning of our relationship. We recessed to “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis and the News (because – ’80s) and danced to “Past Life” by the band Lydia. Music brought us together as a couple and there’s been a definitive soundtrack to our relationship, so choosing our playlists and milestone songs was a meaningful and fun part of the process.

We wanted our day to feel like “us!” That meant playing our favorite pop punk and indie songs on vinyl, passing out cocktail napkins with Michael Scott quotes on them and serving ice cream sandwiches instead of wedding cake. Our aspiration was to embed our favorite things – and the pieces of life that we love the most – into our wedding so that the whole experience felt like home. Our friend Abby, who manages our favorite neighborhood restaurant and is a cocktail-creating connoisseur, invented our signature drinks. And here’s how you know they were really ridiculously good: we defied the recommendation from the liquor store and significantly overbought on cocktail ingredients – and we STILL ran out by 9 p.m. People just couldn’t stop drinking the “Ginger Gentleman.” She is a mixology master!

I designed our invitations and had them printed locally, lined the envelopes with botanical prints and hand lettered the addresses. My eyes turn into hearts for all things snail mail: making these was meditative, creative and fun. I also whipped up petal tossing bags (washi tape is my friend), and tabletop signage for our bar, guestbook table, etc. to match our invites, putting them in different gold frames for an eclectic look. My proudest project, though, was hand-lettering a vintage mirror from JW’s family with our seating chart using chalk markers. I still haven’t erased it!…it’s probably time to move on.

All of our vendors were wonderful! We were really fortunate to work with so many talented creatives. Special shout-out to the team we worked with at our venue, Terrain. Everything at Terrain has a touch of magic and the professionals there bring the most beautiful aesthetic to all they do, from how they arrange decor, to the way they plate food and put together florals. Wedding planning was stressful, and Terrain was turnkey in many ways. We knew everything they created for the day would be bespoke and stunning – and we were blown away (and so grateful!).

Our day-of coordinator, Sarah from Heart and Dash, was a lifesaver (and then some). She solved so many befuddling logistical issues for us, ensured all of our family and bridal party photos finished with time to spare, and even whipped out a sewing kit on the dance floor when we ran into a snag (literally). I am convinced there is nothing she can’t do or solve – she’s basically a life coach mixed with the most prepared and confident event planner.
