This Free-Spirited Southwind Hills Wedding will Have You Pinning Every Image

July 9, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Despite a torrential downpour on the morning of, Kacie and Zach were able to have the woodsy Southwind Hills wedding of their dreams! The couple’s goal was to create a gathering place for old friends to reconnect and new friends to meet, and we could feel that in every image Peyton Rainey Photography captured. Kacie and Zach focused on incorporating traditions that were meaningful, curating details that were sentimental, and creating moments that were unforgettable. From the thrift-store table decor to the autumnal florals from Forever Cole Events to grandpa’s famous salsa favors, no detail was left unattended. We’re not exaggerating when we say you’ll want to pin every single image from this Oklahoma fall wedding!

The Couple:

Kacie and Zach

The Wedding:

Southwind Hills, Norman, Oklahoma

We wanted our wedding to fit our free-spirited, fun-loving personalities, and to be a space that cultivated a sense of joyful gathering for all of our family and friends. We had a strong desire to bridge the cultural and geographical differences of our respective clans in a way that made everyone feel like they belonged, could let loose, and have a good time.

Zach‘s parents helped found a nonprofit in Uganda and so he grew up there before moving to Portland, Oregon, and I grew up on a farm in rural Oklahoma before moving to Los Angeles for college then San Francisco for work. Needless to say, our guest list spanned far and wide. We wanted our wedding to serve as a gathering where our loved ones from each of those very different places could find common ground and, hopefully, new friends.

We wanted every detail of our wedding to be personal and intentional, and so we put a lot of thought into how to carry that into the ceremony itself. We each had both of our parents walk us down the aisle, and Zach‘s father served as our officiant. We also decided to have each of our moms stand up and give the audience a chance to get to know their child in a way that only a mom could describe. They shared special stories about what made each of us the person we are today, and why they are proud to be our moms. Our guests got a chance to get to know the person their family member and friend was marrying in a that we felt was truly special.

There are so many beautiful weddings and resources online to help you plan your dream wedding! Use these resources while planning your big day, but be careful to not fall into the trap of playing the comparison game. If you do, it’s so easy to never feel satisfied and always wonder ‘what if.’ Follow your own heart and style, and make your wedding true to you!

My biggest piece of advice? Once your wedding day arrives, don’t focus on the things that you were unable to do or things that you forgot. Just enjoy the moment!

Monochromatic, simplistic weddings are ‘in’ right now (and can be stunning), but I’m a free spirited gal who loves color! I wanted to incorporate a lot of different, muted fall colors into our wedding, but I worried about how it would all flow together. This was a daunting task, but we were able to turn an eclectic color palette into something truly beautiful. I’m so glad we didn’t shy away from color because not only was it gorgeous but it fit my boho vibe.

Moreover, we wanted a wedding that was deeply personal, so I incorporated a lot of sentimental, family heirlooms into our wedding decor. We also scoured thrift stores for vintage vases and milk glass to use for our centerpieces. These things combined with various childhood photos, pretty flowers, and vintage books created a sweet vignette at each table.

My grandma, affectionately known as ‘MaMaw’ passed away a few months before the wedding, and we wanted to do something as a tribute to her. It just so happens that my PeePaw (grandfather) had been making homemade salsa for over forty years, and it is a hot commodity in our rural Oklahoman community. So we crafted a fresh batch of PeePaw’s Salsa just a few days before the wedding and filled tiny, personalized mason jars to hand out as wedding favors to our 300+ guests. Our guests loved it, and many of them have reached out asking for more! We were so happy to be able to share something so meaningful (and tasty) with our guests.

You’d Never Guess This Gorgeous Green and Copper Valentine DTLA Wedding was Inspired by the Green Bay Packers

July 8, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Inspired by the natural and cozy feeling of Scotland and the colors of their favorite football team, Bellamy and Nick created the dreamiest Valentine DTLA wedding! Seriously, though, who knew that football team colors could be this sophisticated?! The green and copper palette was absolutely stunning, the retro vibes were ideal for this DTLA venue, and the florals designed by Winston and Main were works of art that blended seamlessly with the lush greenery already in the space. We also can’t get enough of all the sweet DIY details the couple added to this special day, and the way Victoria Gold Photography captured every single moment!

The Couple:

Bellamy and Nick

The Wedding:

Valentine, Los Angeles, California

The most important part of our wedding planning was to enjoy it! When we got engaged, our good friends gave us a bottle of champagne and told us to celebrate every decision we made. We really took that advice to heart and made sure we always reminded ourselves that the wedding is a celebration, so the planning should be fun!

The venue choice was very important to Nick. He fell in love with Valentine as soon as we saw it on a hard-hat tour (it was still under construction at the time), so I knew that it was the right choice. The greenery and artistic details were beautiful and made every picture gorgeous.

Our wedding colors were green and copper. As a life long Green Bay Packers fan, I always dreamed of a green and yellow wedding, but eventually, we compromised with green and copper. Right after we got engaged, we were in Paris where we saw Nick‘s green and copper Paul Smith suit which is what sealed the deal for the color choices.

Nick‘s dad is a judge, so he was the obvious choice for the officiant. Having someone so important to us do the officiating was such an amazing detail of the wedding that we will remember forever! There were also many handmade pieces in our ceremony, such as my veil, the altar (which were made by my mother in law), and the aisle runner (which was painted by my family).

We actually DIY-ed a lot of the decor! We made the table runners, aisle runner, veil, menus and holders, favors, table numbers, escort cards, and the altar.

We used the escort cards as the favors and gave out air plants on wood pieces and tiny ceramic bowls. Nick does ceramics as a hobby, so he made the tiny bowls, and we sourced the wood for the wooden pieces from our family’s houses in Tennessee and San Diego.

Rustic Boho Tennessee Wedding at K & M Barn at Lewis Farm

July 7, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Mekenzie and Seth’s wedding at K & M Barn at Lewis Farm was a rustic boho dream come true! The farm, which is owned by the groom’s family, was the ideal backdrop for a day that was as laid-back as the beautiful couple. They set up teepees, laid antique rugs, hung dreamcatchers, and brought in huge floral arrangements designed by Southern Sparkle Wedding and Event Planning to create a classically bohemian look. Then they added lots of pretty wood accents for a rustic touch. If you’ve been looking for summer backyard wedding inspiration with a distinct boho feel, look on further than these incredible images captured by the one and only Kelly Ginn Photography!

The Couple:

Mekenzie and Seth

The Wedding:

K & M Barn at Lewis Farm, Milan, Tennessee

We really wanted our wedding to reflect our personalities and overall just look like us. So, when it came to planning, it was so important for us to make sure that our wedding was as fun and laid back as we are. I wanted a boho vibe with a little bit of southern charm. The majority of our guests traveled for the big day, so we wanted to make sure that everyone had a great time.

Seth‘s family owns an absolutely beautiful venue in Tennessee. It was special for us because it is on his family’s farm and we have been lucky to watch it grow and become a huge success. If you’re in the West Tennessee area and are looking for an awesome outdoor/barn venue, give K & M Barn at Lewis Farm a ring!

My biggest advice for wedding planning is that first class vendors are an investment and they are 10000% worth it. Planning our wedding was a breeze because we had the most incredible, caring vendors who went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect.

Kenz’s in love with all things “teepee.” I made one that I used in my proposal so, naturally, we had to have one to take pictures with on the wedding day. My brother built one next to the barn, and she was thrilled with the way the pictures turned out. Score one for Seth!
