An Intimate Chic Destination Wedding in Phuket, Thailand

January 30, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Planning a destination wedding? Abigail and Paul’s intimate chic destination wedding in Phuket at Anantara Layan Resort will have you adding Thailand to your short list of must-consider locations for your day! We’re positively obsessed with this couple’s “boho chic” style and the bright, happy colors of their gorgeous floral arrangements designed by IAMFLOWER. Since planning a destination wedding is no easy feat from afar, Abigail and Paul hired the awesome team at The Bridal Planner Thailand to help them pull off their vision with perfect details and rentals! And while all of their vendors were from Thailand, the couple couldn’t help but bring along South of Indigo Photography after she rocked their engagement photos — and now their wedding photos, too! We can’t wait for you to swoon over this romantic destination wedding in Phuket.

The Couple:

Abigail & Paul

The Wedding:

Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, Phuket, Thailand

I did my own makeup, and my maid of honor did my hair. I went to a professional makeup artist back home in Nashville who coached me, and then my MOH and I rehearsed the look several times during my dress fittings so we were sure to have it down on the wedding day.

I wore a Yumi Katsura gown that was just stunning. I loved the train and asymmetrical hem. I also wore stunning Harriet Wilde heels, which were my “something blue”. The floral metalwork on the heels really complemented the floral lace in my dress perfectly.

We wanted to create an experience for our loved ones to bond over and remember forever. We chose a destination wedding in Thailand because we knew we’d be creating a multi-day celebration in which everyone could get to know one another and experience new things as a group. It worked out wonderfully because Paul and I were able to spend quality time with each of our guests.

I had a vision of getting married with this beautiful ocean vista backdrop, like we had the whole world (and our whole lives!) in front of us. I also wanted a 5 star, luxe experience for our guests who had traveled across the world to be with us at our wedding. A destination wedding in Phuket at Anantara Layan  was an easy choice as soon as we saw their villa options.
The venue at Anantara Layan Phuket’s Villa Naka residence is stunning, and the team there was truly professional and went above and beyond. At one point a few days before the wedding, I hurt my foot pretty badly on a yacht trip and the folks at Anantara bent over backwards to make sure I received the medical care (including 7 stitches!) I needed without too much stress. They even left a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a Get Well card in our villa. I was so touched it moved me to (happy) tears.

One of our best friends married us, and that made our ceremony incredibly special. My father also opened the ceremony in a prayer, and we had several others read verses and quotes that were important to us.

Just following the ceremony, after we had walked back down the aisle hand in hand with rose petals being thrown all around us, I remember Paul grabbing my hand and twirling me around to look back at all our loved ones watching us.

Lauren (who runs South of Indigo photography) was the only vendor that we brought with us from the US to Thailand. After she took our engagement photos, I knew we had to have her shoot our wedding. Lauren has a very chill personality – she puts you at ease and gets you amped up all at once. We are forever grateful to her for taking our beautiful photos.

Wedding planning advice from the bride: Hire a wedding planner if you can! Ours were brilliant and really kept us on track throughout the entire process. Make sure they vibe with your general style, so you can trust them to handle any design decisions that pop up. And if you’re having a destination wedding, especially one where there are festivities all weekend, make sure you assign a trusted friend as a second point of contact. As the bride, you need to be able to relax and enjoy all the festivities – it’s hard to do that if you’re everyone’s main go-to for questions.
I loved our experience with the entire wedding planner team at The Bridal Planner Thailand including Kate, Imm, and Chonlada. They masterfully took our high level vision and drew in all the details that made our day unforgettable. They have exquisite taste.

Chef Hong at Anantara Layan Phuket created a special menu that included four courses served family style. We chose to serve Thai cuisine family style because we wanted our guests to feel free to try a little of everything. They had room to explore and taste something they might not have picked if we were doing a set menu. My husband said it was the best meal of his life.

We are a laid back couple who loves to travel – Paul is a musician and I work in technology – so we’re a little bohemian in our lifestyle. I’m also from the South and love chic and elegant parties, so we landed on “boho chic” and it stuck.

Outdoorsy DIY Wedding at Double K Estate

January 29, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

High school sweethearts Alexus and Weston knew their wedding needed two things: To celebrate their family and friends and to truly reflect who they are as a couple. They embraced their outdoorsy hearts with a woodsy, boho day at Double K Estate! From antlers incorporated into the table decor, flower girls tossing dried flowers that were saved from bouquets Weston had given Alexus since prom, personalized vows, and a surprise appearance from Sparty — this day was filled with sentimental details planned with the help of Paper Hat Weddings. According to Alexus, they hired the best photographer for couples with dogs (and in general!), Autumn Nicole Photography. So, if you’re inspired by the outdoors, really into photos of adorable, fluffy pups, and Free People-esque style, this day is for you!

The Couple:

Alexus + Weston

The Wedding:

Double K Estate, Boyne Falls, Michigan

I enjoy hunting and being outdoors and wanted our look to reflect this. The guys were each gifted feather bowties and camo socks. We all wore jackets with a subtle black camo pattern and of course my favorite, Lululemon dress pants. I wanted to make sure we were both functional and fly.

Wow Hannah Elisabeth Beauty and her team can make beauty dreams come true. I met with Hannah prior for a trial and we discussed my overall wedding vibe and she made it come to life on our wedding day.

I happened to fall in love with two dresses while dress shopping and Weston had mentioned that he would be up to doing a first look if there was something different about myself when I walked down the aisle. Two dresses it was, but Weston did not know! I did our first look in my “reception dress” then walked down the aisle in a completely different dress, my “ceremony dress”. I also knew I wanted to incorporate a hat during my wedding because I am typically always wearing one.

The main planning advice we have is that this day is all about the bride and groom, so do not get caught up on what everyone expects you to do at a wedding. Instead, make a day that involves all your favorite and most important things in life. Let this reflect the vendors you choose too. By doing this we truly believe it will make the planning process so fun, you will work with awesome people and your day will be unforgettable.

It was so important to us that everyone felt special on our day and that nothing was planned without a story to tell.

Autumn Nicole has a way of making you feel so comfortable and have fun behind the camera. I truly love that every photo she takes tells a story, we continue to relive our day thanks to this. She is the sweetest person and after you meet Autumn, you will have a new forever friend. P.S BEST PHOTOGRAPHER WITH DOGS!

We both attended Michigan State University for undergrad, and both come from families that are huge Spartan fans. So, prior to the wedding the bride had set up to have Sparty at the wedding. However, she did not tell anyone else about this. The bride and groom went for a walk after the ceremony along the river where Sparty surprised the groom! Then the bride, groom and Sparty all entered the cocktail hour to the MSU fight song and surprised all our family and friends. Everyone LOVED this surprise!

As for my girls we went for non-traditional dresses, I made a color palette and worked with each of them to find a dress at regular department stores. Also, my gift to all the girls when they walked into the reception was a personalized jean jacket on their chair to dance the night away in.

My parent’s (mother/father of the bride) started a wedding rental business, Eden Woods Rentals, after our wedding. Leading up to the wedding my family built all the reception/cocktail/dessert tables, bars, floral wall, and supplied all the chairs, church pews and many of the details that made our day so special. It was amazing to watch our families come together and work so hard to add that extra touch of unique to our day.

Colorful & Festive London Wedding at Peckham Springs

January 28, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Francesca and Rachael’s festive London wedding at Peckham Springs gives us all the lighthearted, good vibes! We dare you to look at these photos by Joasis Photography and not smile from ear-to-ear. The couple wanted to create a wedding day that felt like “them” from the moment you walk in the door. With the help of LoandBeholdBespoke, a rockstar decor and styling team, the day was everything they dreamed of and more. This colorful day had confetti, beer pong, smoke bombs, rad hand-painted jackets by The Mermaid Effect, and even more! If you’re looking for inspiration on how to throw a fun and stylish day, Francesca and Rachael’s wedding will not disappoint.

The Couple:

Francesca & Rachael

The Wedding:

Peckham Springs, London, United Kingdom

We wanted the ceremony to be relaxed so encouraged everyone to take a beer or glass of Prosecco in with them, although by the time I walked down the aisle, I noted a lot of already empty drinks!

We love South East London! We were keen to keep our wedding venue in line with our personalities and things we enjoy doing normally. We always try to hang out with Hank our fur baby locally whether that be in a park, cafe or bar. It was important our venue was dog friendly. Francesca initially came up with the idea of Peckham Springs as it’s edgy, urban and hosts street food vendors in their shipping container. As soon as we went to look around we could see our vision for the wedding come to life, it was a complete blank canvas for us to work with and the team at Peckham Springs were really flexible in accommodating our many requests. Also, selfishly we only live 5 minutes from the venue so could walk their many times with Hank during the planning process which helped to keep the stress away.

There were so many special moments on our day. For me, watching Francesca walk down the aisle towards me Is up there. She looked so stunning and was smiling, I was so nervous waiting under the ceremony arch but seeing her appear instantly made me relax and I couldn’t have been happier in that moment.

Francesca‘s uncle – Eamonn, acted as our wedding celebrant on the day. He perfectly executed the humanist ceremony with a script that we provided to him and allowed him to edit and put his own stamp on. He did amazingly well especially seeing as though the first time he read the script was one a couple of nights before the wedding. We had our best friends Kat and Laura get involved during the ceremony with a hand fasting element which was a really lovely touch and produced some laughter! Both of our mums had a role too- doing a reading each.

Lot’s of people commented to us later on in the day about how nice the ceremony was, I think a lot of people didn’t have any idea what to expect, especially from an LGBT wedding, and were pleasantly surprised.

Wedding planning advice from the Rachael: It’s your day so do it your way! You can achieve the wedding you want even on a smaller budget. We shopped around a lot before deciding on vendors and tried to save money wherever possible by getting creative and thinking outside the box! Also, family members love to be involved and are usually more than willing to lend a hand so don’t be afraid to ask people you know with specific talents to help you out. For example, my brother made the wedding cake and all the mini cheesecake desserts because that’s what he is good at and this was his wedding gift to us. It’s really important to schedule some time on the big day just for yourselves to spend some time together. The day goes so quickly so having half hour or an hour to sneak away and share a quiet moment really makes a difference.

Jo is incredible to work with. We couldn’t have asked for any more from our photographer. She captured our day so perfectly in a way that we can treasure forever. Jo was laid back and went with the flow which was really important to us. She was everywhere but nowhere all at once. She was there to capture every angle and candid moment but at the same time we barely noticed she was there and did not feel like we had a camera shoved in our face at any time. When we went off for our couples shoot after dinner Jo was amazing, she put us instantly at ease and we just had fun with it!

We chose to go across the road to Bussey Rooftop Bar on Copeland Road because we had one of our first dates on a rooftop bar in Peckham and this year they had decorated the rooftop so beautifully, it was like it was made for our day! Luckily for us because we got married on a Monday they allowed us in for our photoshoot and even congratulated us with a glass of Prosecco each on the house whilst we were there! I’m sure a lot of people thought we were there for a styled shoot actually which just makes me all the more proud!

We didn’t want our wedding to feel like any other wedding our guests might have been to. It was really important to us for our day to be personalized as much as possible so that our guests knew they were at Rachael & Francesca‘s wedding, not just…a wedding. Another important part of our planning was to ensure that we supported our local businesses in terms of picking vendors, we spend a lot of time eating and drinking out locally so why wouldn’t we do the same on our wedding day?! We wanted to be able to have fun on our day and to be able to look around and see everyone laughing and smiling and ultimately just full of love. Francesca and I made lots of DIY decorations and every detail was chosen by us as opposed to being part of a package. It was also really important to us both to support our local businesses as much as possible

We wanted our main meals to be served on wooden food boards and in order to create more space on the tables we came up with the idea of elevating these on tin cans. This involved lots of family members collecting tins for us in the lead up to the wedding and many hours spent spray painting them rose gold and copper.

Ami from LoandBeholdBespoke is a dream to work with! She helped style my proposal to Francesca a year before the wedding and I couldn’t wait to get her involved in our wedding day. Herself and her husband couldn’t have been more helpful on the day with the set up and in the lead up the wedding with nailing down all the finite details. I recommend them to anyone looking for a unique wedding with bohemian touches. They have a great range of props to hire and Ami is so creative, even if they don’t have a specific prop you want Ami is able to create something unique for you instead.

We trawled the internet for Photo Booth backdrops but Francesca found some inspiration on Pinterest and made our DIY photo booth backdrop out of a few wooden battens, chicken wire and a lot of coral coloured tissue paper that was shaped into a heart! This was a massive hit with our guests and looks great in some of our photos.
