Texas Hill Country Wedding at The Greenhouse at Driftwood

June 6, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Mackenzie and Will’s sweet Texas Hill Country wedding at The Greenhouse at Driftwood has us melting over every little detail and sentimental moment. From the couple reading letters their wrote to each other to read before the ceremony to their “goodbye kiss” as they drove off from their celebration, we love every moment Madison Katlin Photography captured of these two lovers’ day! If “minimal with a touch of boho” is your thing, get ready for all the inspiration you need! The couple kept their floral palette neutral with a lot of texture and added vibrant pops of color in the lounge areas with rentals from Birch and Brass including rugs, vintage-inspired furniture, and patterned pillows. Get ready for all the greenhouse vibes because this day at The Greenhouse at Driftwood is one for your inspo boards!

The Couple:

Mackenzie & Will

The Wedding:

The Greenhouse at Driftwood, Austin, Texas

We had a good friend of ours officiate our wedding. The only guidance we gave him was that we wanted our wedding day to not only be a celebration of our love but of love in general. Neither of us is super religious but we’re both spiritual and we just wanted to make sure that all our friends and fam felt love and gratitude for each other.

Our photographer is an incredible young woman, we love her so much. We trusted her completely and on the day of she was pretty much invisible but somehow everywhere at all once. That’s exactly want you want. People from our wedding said “I never even saw your photographer and all your photos are amazing”. She took the time to get to know us and asked all the right questions and she’s so professional but also felt like a dear friend. If you don’t vibe with your photographer then find a new one.

We really wanted to stay true to ourselves. It’s hard not to feel like you need to impress everyone but we just stuck with designs, colors, food, and music that we personally like. We knew we wanted to get married outside under a big tree at The Greenhouse at Driftwood and for the whole day to be casual and fun, so we decided a brunch wedding was perfect for us. Keeping in mind that our wedding would be the first time that friends and family from both sides would be together and meet each other we wanted it to feel like a party. And if we had to use a word to describe our design inspo it would be “boho”. We kept our flower colors neutral with a lot of texture and added vibrant colors in our lounge areas with rugs, cute furniture, and pillows.

Lush and Romantic Akiin Beach Club Wedding

June 5, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

If you’ve been dreaming of “I do’s” in one of the most romantic and tropical destinations, you’re about to swoon over Winta and Joel’s magical Akiin Beach Club wedding in Tulum! Inspired by the Tulum sunsets, the couple used hues of peach, burnt orange, rose gold, ivory, and a few pops of black — and we are swooning over every bit of it, especially the arrangements Floweriize created for the day. Winta’s Pronovias gown was the perfect balance of elegant and boho, and her groom looked handsome dressed in a classic suit and bowtie from The Black Tux. We love a fashion-forward couple! Start scrolling through these images captured by Kape Photography for all the Tulum vibes, a gorgeous reception set-up, party under disco balls, and even more!

The Couple:

The Wedding:

Akiin Beach Club, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

I knew I wanted a curve-hugging fit and flare dress, but would have never thought I’d end up in a full lace gown. I like clean-lines and simple elegance. I also quickly learned that crepe was unforgiving and I would not feel comfortable in the materiel all night. As soon as I tried on the Pronovias Desmonda gown and added the detachable train, I knew that was it! I had it tailored to be a bit more fit and flare. It was the most perfect light and airy beach dress.

Since the wedding ceremony was on the beach, we got customize wooden fans and placed one on each ceremony chair — both practical and cute! We saw several guests use them on the beach the next day too.

We had our pastors and friends co-lead the ceremony. We also did communion with all our guests which we thought was a special and unusual touch for a beach-side wedding.

Karla (our photographer) and her team are simply the BEST! She was so friendly and sweet. We spoke with her several times before the wedding day. She also provided the most amazing couples guide with all sorts of tips and “nice to knows” when we booked her. We referred to it often and found it really helpful during the planning process. She sends out a really thorough survey a week or so before the wedding asking all the details about which photos we wanted to capture, who was who in the bridal party, etc. She made us both feel so comfortable in front of the camera and the end-result (our gallery) speaks for itself. 10/10 recommend Karla and her team. She is friendly, professional, and just so dang talented.

We also had an amazing videographer, SeaLove wedding films. They worked so well with Karla and the Kape team.

Our wedding colors were peach, ivory, burnt orange, rose/blush, rose gold, gold, copper, with a couple pops of black! Our biggest inpso for wedding design and decor was beautiful Tulum sunsets. We wanted to compliment the boho rustic vibe of the environment and venue.

Wedding tasting was hands down our most favorite wedding planning activity. We did a wedding planing visit in October 2019 and met with several vendors including enjoying three tastings! One at Akiin, of course. And another two at venues we were considering for our welcome reception. Ultimately, we decided to go with Mia Beach Club and Restaurant for our day before soiree.

Our menu included a watermelon, feta, and arugula salad. We served a vegetarian lasagna for the non-meat eaters and a beautiful prime rib/chicken thigh combo accompanied with mashed potatoes and roasted baby veggies. We also has a sweet and tart sorbet trio between dinner and cake/churros.

Black Love Matters—A Note From the Junebug Team

June 2, 2020 | riley

Racism in the wedding industry isn’t a new issue, nor is it one we’re blind to. From our photo contests to the weddings we share, we recognize that we have fallen short. The wedding industry has been consistently criticized for highlighting limited views of love by showing white, heteronormative couples, for featuring venues historically used to oppress Black people, and for valuing the work of white wedding professionals above the talent and perspective of Black and POC artists.

In light of the recent anti-racist conversations, we’re here to take responsibility for our shortcomings. By first acknowledging the ways we have perpetuated racism in the wedding industry, we can begin and commit to change. We support the celebration and the safety of Black lives and love. We want to be clear about where we stand—Black lives and Black love matter.

Our Mission

Our mission has always been to showcase celebrations of love to help couples everywhere plan a wedding that reflects them. It’s clear from looking at our publication that we have work to do. For starters, there isn’t enough diversity on our blog and on our social channels. We also see that our vendor directory is severely lacking in Black professionals. The ways we’ve attempted inclusive representation haven’t been enough.

Today, we’re making changes to be the truly inclusive resource we aspire to be and will continue to pursue anti-racist education to help us achieve it. We’re listening and we’re learning. As part of our work, we will be acquiring more weddings for our blog that showcase Black love as well as weddings featuring members of other underrepresented communities. A key element of dismantling racism is to redistribute wealth, which is why we are dedicated to taking extra care in promoting the businesses of Black wedding professionals now and in the future.

Our Commitments

Our education and operational changes will be ongoing. Right now we’re committed to the following:

  • Listening to our readers and understanding what they need from us
  • Investing in anti-racist education by Black creators
  • Using our platform to educate our followers, promote equality, and Black liberation
  • Sharing more Black love
  • Sharing more work from Black vendors

This conversation is far from over. We’re open to hearing your feedback and ideas as we move forward, together. We also invite you to join us in your own anti-racist education. Here are some of the resources our team has been using:
